QUALITY. Sometimes quality of 3D felted objects doesn’t have a direct correlation to price (more about price in a separate post). Assessing quality of a 3D felted object is quite simple. It has to be firm and evenly felted (i.e. no potholes or obviously uneven surface). A soft felted 3D object oftentimes would lose its shape fairly quickly. What one should look for is a well felted piece, thus firm with an even structure. If you ever come across my work/booth, do feel the pieces. SHAPE WEEK - SQUARE Another little physical activity for small people. Today we were looking at squares, so I made this little activity cube. Each side had an action. E threw the cube and then we did the action it landed on. She seemed to want it mostly to to land on clapping and shake. SHAPE WEEK -SQUARES Today we have been much busier than the past few days, so we did less shape activities. But E had this squares invitation to play left out for her this morning. Foam cut out squares in a grid (brown is her current favourite colour and purple is mine), with lovely tactile wooden blocks to stack. And of course her best colour sorting action came out! SHAPE WEEK - TRIANGLES A little triangular game to run some energy off on a horrible rainy day. We made two triangular flags, one red and one green. When I waved the green flag E could run around as fast as she could. When I waved the red one she had to stop and stand still. Brilliant! I imagine this would work even better for slightly older toddlers as I have verbal indications too. SHAPE WEEK - TRIANGLES We made bunting this afternoon. Half of the triangles were a sticking activity, and half printing. Firstly we stuck tiny foam triangles onto our foam flags. This was actually E's first time with pva. Initially her concentration was good with it, but we faded quickly into over enthusiasm and glue everywhere. But she was very good to begin with. She asked for the googly eyes to add to the overall effect. Then we did some triangle printing. I made triangle sponges from a pool noodle that we have had for ages amd never used. E chose the paint colours (brown is her current favourite) and we stamped away on out flags. As usual she loved painting and the colours rapidly merged to a beautiful shade of mud....but she was happy! She was even more excited when I hung our gorgeous triangular bunting up above the door! I think she was proud of our efforts and kept reminding me it was there all through dinner. SHAPE WEEK - TRIANGLES Today we have been investigating triangles. After yesterday's fun, I have a lot to live up to. Although not quite as messy tpd5ay. I left this little provocation out for E this morning. Little triangular houses made from lolly sticks. Sadly however, this morning we have yet another animal welfare concern in happy land. That horse is NOT happy with its accommodation!! I of course created these as small triangular houses, but E corrected me. They are all on one giant Happyland camping trip. Lunch waa distinctly un-triangular as E requested good old boiled eggs. But I cut her soldiers into triangles. And Daddy is on a mission, sending us updates from work of all the triangles he finds. E is loving his involvement and keeps asking for more. Painting this afternoon!! SHAPE WEEK - swipe for mess! Find the circles in the foam. I set this up in our messy play tray. I covered circle shapes and large buttons in shaving foam and then scattered our ever faithful waterbeads on the top. E was initially reluctant, I showed her what we were looking for and then she was off! Within minutes she was in the tray digging around. Once all the circles were found she just played and played and played. She messed about for well over an hour in the foam. Its was hilarious to watch and play. Shaving foam feels so lovely and soft, its rather compelling to touch, mould and squeeze through your fingers. She was coated from head to foot. We had to shower it all off and the clean up took a while but it was so worth it!! SHAPE WEEK On reflection I may have been over enthusiastic today. Although E can certainly recognise a circle in any form! And we had lots of fun!! This morning she had her invitation to play out, followed by some dry sensory play with coloured giant couscous. Then after a wizz round Morrisons, we had a circular lunch and a general play while I faffed with jobs. Next we went messy with circle hunting in shaving foam and water beads....followed by a shower! Finally we made mini circular pizzas. And then she continued the theme of her own accord by stickering the cat! I allowed it as he loves her an while she covered him in stickers, he laid on the floor purring his heart out, rubbing up to her and making puddings. So I figured they were both happy (and the stickers not very sticky). Although he went out of the catflap before I removed them, so hopefully noone thinks he's being abused! I'll add photos of the foamy mess!! Straw threading! I saw this on someone's insta recently, but annoyingly cant remember where so thank you if it was you! As a really quick easy, fine motor, colour matching and shape recognition activity, this has it all! Cut shapes out of felt and put holes in the middle. Match the felt colours to your straws if you happen to have the same colours (purely coincidental in my case). Then leave your small person to it to thread the shapes onto the straws. It kept E busy for quite some time as she kept taking them off and starting again. Time was also added as she attempted to encourage her doll to do the activity too. Not only did she nail the motor control here, but her colour matching was perfect!!
