Coloured rice fun! Our NCT Group have been together for over 2 years now. From our first awkward meeting as bumpy ladies, yesterday we celebrated our little people's 2nd birthdays! How did that happen so fast?! I dont know what I would do without my group of lovely mummies. They are my little lifeline. We talk about all sorts and know someone will always be there if we need each other, be that for a bit of a rant, a hug, moral support, babysitting, or just a chat and some cake. We hired a brilliant little inflatable soft play area for them, each brought a ride on toy and I made my old faithful coloured rice. We put it in an empty ball pit and they loved pouring it, mixing it, running it through funnels. So much so that several of them took a tub of it home to play with. 3 under 2's in my house...where did the floor go?! We had a brilliant day altogether though. 2 of E's best friends came to play for the day while their mummies were busy. I was a bit nervous of having 3, but they were fantastic!! Great fun! I hope I can nurture this love and excitement for horses into something wonderful for us as mummy and daughter. I have been riding and utterly in love with horses since I was 5. For most of my life I have had my own horses, until things like mortgages had to take a turn. But now E seems to be falling for them too and although I don't want to push her into interests and hobbies unless she wants to, at the same time I REALLY WANT TO!!! I would love a little pony to join our family at some point in the future. Today we went to pony sanctuary open day and she loved it. She rode a little one called Dillon and was particularly taken by this little girly. I'm working tomorrow, so I whipped up this little matching game tonight for E to do in the morning while Daddy makes breakfast and feeds the ravenous animals. We are encouraging E to use her name more, we gave her a tricky one! So any name based activity is good at the moment. She isn't quite 2 yet, but having visuals of her name is a great start to developing recognition. But essentially it's just a matching game, which she loves. Letters written on foam sheets, to match with the letters on the paper. This time we are doing capitals, but I will make sure we mix it up with lower case too. E requested to play with the coloured giant couscous today. "Mummy, we play big rice?" It's great having it all stored on the shelves as it encourages both of us to get it out a lot more. Earlier today we collected conkers in the park so I threw those in there too, along with good old pompoms and pipe cleaners. Just a really quick activity thrown together once you make the couscous. We have had this couscous made up for aaaaages and just store it in the food container between uses. E used it mostly for mark making to be honest, as she's really into drawing at the moment. She also poured it through the funnels, scooped it into a bowl, buried the conkers in the bowl and generally faffed happily about for half an hour with it. LOOKING AFTER OURSELVES WEEK MEGABLOX PLAYDOUGH BRUSHING Another activity aimed at making tooth brushing a fum activity rather than a potential battle ground. We pretended that MegaBlox were teeth. Playdough pushed between the bobbles acted as our plaque and residual snack nastiness. Then E again used her old toothbrush to work at getting the gunk out, and those teeth shiny and clean! NEW WEEK THEME! LOOKING AFTER OURSELVES TOOTH BRUSHING SHEET As I am really poorly (possibly diagnosed with IBD which is not fun) I decided this weeks theme will be about looking after ourselves. This of course somewhat depends on my energy levels. And we are supposed to be on holiday on thursday, but we'll do some anyway. So this afternoon we did some teeth brushing activities. Some days E loves teeth brushing, other days we are inflicting world ending trauma on her. So this game I saw on @thedadlab aaaages ago and thought it was brilliant. If you havent checked out The Dad Lab then get over there, whole new levels of awesome! I printed an a4 picture of a mouth (and coloured it in with drying out felt tips which is optional!). Popped it through the laminator and then drew some little plaque monsters, cracks and black teeth with a whiteboard pen. I gave E an old tooth brush and she set to work scrubbing them off. She really got into the idea of cleaning them and we talked about this being the same as her teeth. How important brushing is etc. She scrubbed at those teeth for ages and then asked me to draw more. The second time I gave her some water to dip her brush in as actually for someone as little as her you had to put a lot of pressure on it to get the pen off! At bedtime she brushed her teeth for aaaaaages, so something went in! This activity obviously helps her understanding of dental care, but it was also great for her fine motor skills. She was really accurate. Yey! SHAPE WEEK -SQUARES Today we have been much busier than the past few days, so we did less shape activities. But E had this squares invitation to play left out for her this morning. Foam cut out squares in a grid (brown is her current favourite colour and purple is mine), with lovely tactile wooden blocks to stack. And of course her best colour sorting action came out! SHAPE WEEK - TRIANGLES We made bunting this afternoon. Half of the triangles were a sticking activity, and half printing. Firstly we stuck tiny foam triangles onto our foam flags. This was actually E's first time with pva. Initially her concentration was good with it, but we faded quickly into over enthusiasm and glue everywhere. But she was very good to begin with. She asked for the googly eyes to add to the overall effect. Then we did some triangle printing. I made triangle sponges from a pool noodle that we have had for ages amd never used. E chose the paint colours (brown is her current favourite) and we stamped away on out flags. As usual she loved painting and the colours rapidly merged to a beautiful shade of mud....but she was happy! She was even more excited when I hung our gorgeous triangular bunting up above the door! I think she was proud of our efforts and kept reminding me it was there all through dinner. SHAPE WEEK - swipe for mess! Find the circles in the foam. I set this up in our messy play tray. I covered circle shapes and large buttons in shaving foam and then scattered our ever faithful waterbeads on the top. E was initially reluctant, I showed her what we were looking for and then she was off! Within minutes she was in the tray digging around. Once all the circles were found she just played and played and played. She messed about for well over an hour in the foam. Its was hilarious to watch and play. Shaving foam feels so lovely and soft, its rather compelling to touch, mould and squeeze through your fingers. She was coated from head to foot. We had to shower it all off and the clean up took a while but it was so worth it!! SHAPE WEEK On reflection I may have been over enthusiastic today. Although E can certainly recognise a circle in any form! And we had lots of fun!! This morning she had her invitation to play out, followed by some dry sensory play with coloured giant couscous. Then after a wizz round Morrisons, we had a circular lunch and a general play while I faffed with jobs. Next we went messy with circle hunting in shaving foam and water beads....followed by a shower! Finally we made mini circular pizzas. And then she continued the theme of her own accord by stickering the cat! I allowed it as he loves her an while she covered him in stickers, he laid on the floor purring his heart out, rubbing up to her and making puddings. So I figured they were both happy (and the stickers not very sticky). Although he went out of the catflap before I removed them, so hopefully noone thinks he's being abused! I'll add photos of the foamy mess!!
