For the first time in her career, Azem found herself with not a single soul by her side. Not even those she considered dear friends agreed with her. She was used to butting heads with the rest of the convocation members, but she could at least always count on the likes of Elidibus and Emet-Selch to see the reason in her unorthodox actions.
She had always been right. Every dream, every action, every whim; it had always lined up. Everything happens the way it's meant to. She saw fate as river, not unlike her original namesake. One can attempt to control it, divert it to their liking; but it will still flow. Streams elsewhere will dry, a dam will burst, and their precious fields will flood. Prolonging the inevitable was pointless. It was their turn to let the current swallow them. It was their fate to return to the depths that fed all of creation. In doing so the waters that carry them could carve in to the land itself, recreating their world for a people surely better than them. Her duty was to the people after all. Not just the people of today but the people of tomorrow too. It was her job to look out for their interests within that stuffy room.
That was but one of the many arguments she made while justifying her case. Emet did not take kindly to that. Neither did he (or Elidibus, for that matter) accept the proof of "a gut feeling". Typical. He'd truly grown to be quite the stick in the mud. Fine. He will find the rapids carry away what earth he clings to with ease. She left the meeting room with not a single connection unsevered. She sought out a mutual friend knowing he would understand; he always had. The frown on his face said otherwise, however. For the second time today Azem had been.... incorrect? No. That couldn't be true. She was not the one desperately gasping for air while defying the flow of fate. She was the only one with enough sense to embrace it! They were the foolish ones, not her!

Another connection severed. The last that she had. What was she without those she called her allies? Not "Azem". No, not anymore.
She was the fate they will try and fail to run from. The truth they will conceal from those they claim to serve. The voice they will say they had forgotten until the waters reaches their ears.
She was Lethe, she was oblivion.

I'm joining an ongoing D&D campaign that the DM described as "very piratey, like if One Piece was D&D," and he's said he's pretty much been letting people do whatever with character design so long as it's not too OP.
I think I want my character to be an Awakened ship's figurehead (the awakening cast by a passing, possibly drunk, wizard). She was the HMS Adamant, a naval battleship, and was very happy in that position until the Adamant was rammed broadside by a pirate vessel (name unknown but maybe it could be plot relevant?) and when the Adamant went down, the figurehead broke loose and drifted for a while.
She goes by Adda, these days.
I think she's going to be carved in the figure of an aarakocra, mostly because I've played them a bit and I have a spare mini. She'll use aarakocra stats but maybe have some different damage immunities/vulnerabilities due to being made of wood.
Now I just need to decide what class she should be....

cordelia begins as this shallow, cruel person, but then as time goes on her capacity for compassion grows and grows, and she eventually becomes one of the most heroic & selfless characters in the buffyverse. in "To Shanshu in LA" her mind gets opened to all the feelings of all the people in the world and her response is, "There's so much pain. We have to help them."
willow starts as a softspoken and generally kind person who has a little bit of a mean streak. and as she becomes more self-assured, that mean streak widens to the point where she's telling people to shut up, and she's manipulating them to her will because she thinks she knows better, and she's threatening the people who care about her. she becomes a megalomaniac and a murderer, and in "Grave" her mind gets opened to all the feelings of all the people in the world and her response is to try and destroy it.

going insane thinking about the paralleled relationships of palamedes’ fondness for harrow and camilla’s fondness of gideon. and their respective simularities! harrow being jealous of gideon mooning over dulcinea. camilla being jealous of palamedes being in love with dulcinea since he was 8. camilla being fond of gideon after realizing gideon also has a melodramatic necromancer. palamedes and harrow’s “necromantic pissing contest”. gideon and camilla’s love of swords. palamedes “I'm the greatest necromancer of my generation”, harrow “like hell you are”. palamedes suiciding detonating himself to take out cytherea. gideon suiciding throwing herself on spikes to send harrow full lyctor to take out cytherea. palamedes “i miss harrow terribly” sextus. harrow “i can’t envision a universe without you in it” nonagesimus, camilla “life is too short and love is too long” hect. gideon “you’ll know what to do” nav, palamedes “she knows what to do” sextus. crazy! crazy insane! thinking about them

I just had to endure a whole scene where a male character, after being a perfectly nice person for the whole book, suddenly turns rude, condescending, and a bit sexist when he meets the female protagonist as a sign that he’s gonna be the love interest and I am BEGGING authors to stop fucking doing this. It isn’t charming, it isn’t funny, it isn’t clever, it’s just fucking exhausting having to endure the female protagonist being demeaned until he deigns to consider her a human being and that’s a sign that it’s True Love. Believe it or not you CAN write a romance that doesn’t require one or both of them to be terrible people.

this dog came for foster with a horrifically shattered leg which had gone untreated and i fell in love with her instantly and i fought not to euthanise her for over 2 weeks even though she had heart disease and luxating patellas and aforementioned shattered leg and then they gave her to me on account of being in the vet industry and being able to provide her with everything she needs and i was the happiest person in the world for 48 hours until we went to surgery to fix her leg and she fucking carked it

What if the mc was evil, this was ramming my brains and I couldn't get it out, please tell me
I know you probably meant this like she's just a bad person, but I got completely absorbed by the concept of Mc being a supervillainess and the three skeletons are her accomplices. Their love for her means they're her most loyal servants of all.
Sans: Evil scientist time.
His devotion to Mc brought out the darker side of him, he turns into a lab scientist Gaster would've been very proud of- a ruthlessly calm, selectively empathetic, and frighteningly intelligent monster. There's no morals left in this man aside from the ones he thinks Mc will find useful. He enjoys being given the space, equipment and time to create brilliant inventions that push him and will be used to their fullest potential- and he enjoys not having to pretend he cares about moral restrictions, or those that get in the way.
He's a trusted ally, her right hand man, and... honestly? A good friend. She greatly values his opinions and insight and often finds herself just lingering in his lab so they can talk for hours. He knows things about her not many do.
... There's no line he won't cross. For her.
Red: Oh, he loves a beautiful evil woman, sign him the fuck up. Consider him her main enforcer, her top general; his eye for the flashier side of violence makes him perfect for sending a message and keeping lower minions in line (also, he's surprisingly organised when he wants to be). Nobody fucks around with Red, he's the most likely to have a cool cybernetic hand or an eyepatch or something. When she wants something done, and done right, she sends Red. He's the guy she'll send to 'deal with' the heroes when they've defeated too many minions and have started to actually make an impact in her plans.
He isn't subtle about his feelings for her, and she isn't subtle about reciprocating. They're constantly flirting- whether he's kissing her hand and letting the kiss linger just a bit too long or she's reaching out to 're-adjust' something on his shirt and her fingers trace his collarbone, it's clear that he thinks of her as more than just a commander and she thinks of him as more than just her general.
Skull: Her personal bodyguard, her beast. Her shadow. Undyingly loyal, while the others frequently have to go elsewhere to work Skull rarely leaves her side. If anyone gets too close they lose their neck. He's like a beast on a chain, he'll do anything to keep her safe... and he only needs her affection in return.
And... well, there's something to be said about Skull not fearing that she'll hate him because of his violence. His violence is now a key part of their relationship. It's ironic, really, that this Skull is probably one of the most stable Skulls out there- he has an Mc that he knows will love him regardless of how easily bones shatter under his hands. He doesn't fear losing her, not to that side of him.
Nothing scarier than a man with nothing to lose.
