I really hate the common characterization of Sid in fan fiction. I think writing him like a complete asshole that’s cold to Andy even if it is just the beginning of their relationship feels like playing to hard into the bad boy persona. Sure he likes the punk aesthetic but I think he would be much more goofy and fun to talk to. I mean in adult hood, as a kid I definitely think he would of had this hardened exterior. A bad home life and a sexuality crisis can do that. As well as extreme toy based trauma. As an adult though he would be a goofball that might make the occasional rude joke between friends but not a total jerk. He’s a dork just like Andy just in a different way. Also he would be eager to have a boyfriend rather than a FWB thing. He wants a loving relationship he just thinks Andy is out of his league (he is not)

So i was thinking about Toy Story at work today, and how them toys most likely sent Sid to the Psyche Ward and gave him psychological trauma and a phobia of kids toys.
Like what parent is going to believe that their child's inanimate objects came to life. They probably felt bad that he's so terrified of toys now, and thought he needed therapy. And that probably screw him up more knowing no one believes him, and knowing that he did not imagine it or dream it.
and THEN we see him, allegedly, in Toy Story 3 as the garbage man here:
Throwing old toys away whenever he picks them up from the curb might feel very satisfying to him, after years of possibly forced therapy.

A real life version of Sid's skull shirt from Toy Story.
...And you know posting this makes me want to talk a bit about Sid as a character in the first movie. He's an asshole but there's some parts of him I find sympathetic. It's definitely not cool that he bullies his sister, that really sucks, but the stuff with making mutant toys - he didn't know they were alive til after the fact. He was just a weird kid making cool, spooky art with toys he finds. It's just unfortunate for everyone involved that he was unknowingly mangling sentient beings in the process. 😬 Oof.
