Crystal of the Air in the Air

My magic users need light sources that don't require power and Realm of Magic just didn't give enough overhead lighting. One candelabra, which is so big that it can only be used in tall homes or with multiple stories?! It's just not right. Average spellcasters need light too!

As such: Crystal of the Air, in the Air! The table lamp now resides on the ceiling. Presto-chango, an off the grid light that fits in the homes of average spellcasters. It lights up a whole room with only a single lamp (though of course it can be dimmed if you prefer). I've made two versions, one with the base stand and a second without.

Both versions require Realm of Magic.

A quaint little cottage that would work well for a werewolf and spellcaster couple with their first child and one cat. Comes with a transformation basement, most/all harvestable plants, some Outdoor Retreat insect spawns. Also compatibly built with simple living from Cottage Living. and also off the grid, has solar panels from Eco Lifestyle, and the Sylvan Glade tree from basegame hidden in the basement. I built the house from scratch on a 20x15 lot but may try building at a later date a forest around it as a larger lot. Here’s the tray files for those that have issues finding it in the gallery but wish to download it.

Small Medieval Farm

A small, (late) Medieval inspired farm for a couple, their two daughters and a dog.

Living off-the-grid, your sims can provide for themselves by growing crops and herbs or crafting at the woodworking table. (If you place it on the lot I built it on, there's also a lake for fishing and water supply right next to it). And to take a break from the hard work, they can dedicate themselves to cross stiching, warm themselves at the fireplace or play cards up in the barn. Beware the evil squirrels lurking in the bushes though!!

Sometimes your sims need light that isn't dependent on electricity. These old-timey lamps run on oil instead.

I frankenmeshed this particular project from four different EA objects (one of them just for the knob) and then had to do it again to straighten out the mesh. Still, I'm quite pleased with how it came out. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the reflector on the back to work, and I thought it important to include one.

Much like the close stools I made last year, this particular project is based on actual historical lights and lighting principles.

Although oil-fueled lights are ancient in their use, this particular conception is in line with Georgian-Victorian lights. In England, oil lights began to replace candles for those of means during the later part of the eighteenth century. Like the glass chimneys, the metal of the lamp and reflectors on the back help amplify the light and reflect it about the room. These sorts of design choices were necessary before the brighter gas lights slowly began making their way into homes beginning in the 1840s. Unfortunately oil lamps produced soot, which showed up easily on the light shades of Georgian interiors, hence the Victorian preference for darker wallpapers.

Originally I was just going to do natural metal colors, and then I decided that it would be fun to have a bunch of colorful versions as well. So some swatches are more historical than others.

This particular lamp also has a bit of a quirk that I chose not to resolve because I was amused by it. Although it's meant as a wall lamp, it can fit in slots on tables. So if you want it to just sit around because someone was too lazy to install it properly, or if you want it to be sitting around waiting to be 'fixed', that can be done. It probably wouldn't actually balance like that... but it's fine.
