It's been a month since Binderary ended but I've still got books to share! This is @worse0mens's (hi!) wonderful Good Omens series, The Blossom Realm, which starts with Omens of Another Kind. This is very much a longtime favorite of mine, an AU with a really compelling combo of worldbuilding and characterization. This is a believable grand romance that's also a court drama and a fairy tale, and it's really long (the full series is about 220k words) so it will keep you reading for a long time. This is one of the fics I learned bookbinding for, and it was the first really long fic that I typeset (and redid once I learned more about typesetting). It's been a long road but it was so worth it.

Couple of photos of the spines. The series doesn't divide easily, with one very long work, one medium-length one, and several shorter pieces. The main story is nearly 200k on its own, the longest single volume I've ever made (about 500 pages), and I was worried about it getting too unwieldy, so I put all the other works into their own volume of about 100 pages. They make a disparate set but I love them. The cover is done in skiver green faux leather from Hollander's; I've never worked with this brand before but I loved it, and one sheet was big enough to do both books. The titles are done in cricut brand gold foil htv. There were some issues with that, as I'd bought a multi-pack with a few different colors and only found out after applying the front cover graphics on both books that one, I didn't have enough to do the backs and spines; two, that the gold in that pack is a totally different color than the gold they sell on its own; and three, that no one in my area stocked it anymore and I had to order it from Europe. Here's what the back looks like:

It's the same graphic as the front but without the title in the center, and it's one of the fanciest backs I've ever done and it took forever to weed all those little cutouts. The graphic was free to use on rawpixel. The font I used on the spines and front is a basic Microsoft font called Harrington that worked incredibly well on the cricut, even at small sizes; a lot of basic fonts are too thin, especially fancy ones, so this was a delightful surprise.

Photo of the top, with ribbon bookmark and handmade double core endbands. The endbands didn't come out as well as I'd have liked; they're a little uneven and the color changes aren't that evenly spaced. Double core ones are harder than I expected and I need more practice. The endpapers are chocolate silk moire, and I chose them because there's a very important massive tree in the fic and I thought they looked like wood grain. I did a little experimenting with the shorter volume that's visible around the edges of the endpaper. I wanted gilded edges but the longer book had to be rounded, and I thought I'd try paint instead of foil since I don't know how to foil a curved edge. But I did my experiments on the smaller volume and I couldn't get good coverage, so the edge had to be trimmed off. The watered-down paint had leaked into the edge of the silk moire too far for me to trim, so it's still there. But it's kind of pretty, so I'm going to call it an aesthetic choice.

The title pages are the same, with free graphics from rawpixel. I got lucky and found a similar set of roses that I used for the chapter headers:

These had to be positioned by hand for each chapter so they'd fit around the text properly. It was a pain but they look so pretty. The final photo contains a story spoiler, so proceed with caution if you don't want that:

The scene break image in both volumes is this tiny snake. This was one of the first aesthetic choices I made for the books. A lot of the plot is centered around a prophecy about a monster snake that everyone thinks will destroy the kingdom, and of course in the manner of Good Omens fic it's a wildly inaccurate misinterpretation and not a threat at all. I wanted something like this because the snake is not only non-threatening but it's been here the entire time and there was never any reason to freak out about it. It was surprisingly difficult to find a snake image that was both simple enough to still be clear at this size and also didn't look dangerous or like a cartoon character. I looked at so many snakes before I found this one, it's ridiculous.

And that's it! I hope the author likes it (and remembers me since I asked to do this almost a year ago). There are three more binderary posts forthcoming, though I don't know how long it'll take me to get to them. It was a busy month.

“Were you wearing a hideous puce jumper at the ice rink?” he checked. Sirius tugged on Padfoot’s collar half-heartedly. “I think I was trying to avoid looking at it.”

“Puke? It’s not puke!” Remus protested, pushing up onto his elbows. “I love that jumper, my mum made it.”

“I said, ‘puce,’” Sirius corrected. “You might call it…erm, rose?”

Remus eyed him narrowly. “It was brown.”

“You must be colour-blind.”

“You must be French.”

Sirius smirked over Padfoot’s shoulder as he leaned down and hugged the dog’s chest. Then, he inhaled deeply and pulled back with all of his strength. Padfoot didn’t budge.

“Genetically, not by choice,” he said, grunting as he attempted to haul the dog off of Remus.

Remus pushed from the opposite side and between the two of them he was redirected onto the grass, albeit with a lot of high-pitched whining and annoyed sneezing. Sirius offered Remus a hand, which was engulfed in his colder, much larger one. As he folded his legs underneath him and lifted up, Remus’s solid weight nearly pulled Sirius to the ground.

Remus straightened to his full height. The bloke was taller than James, but not by much. He just looked absurdly tall because his arms were so long. They hung around his body at awkward angles.

His ugly olive utility jacket didn’t help. It was too long, had large, bulky pockets, and a grey tint that gave his skin a sickly tinge. Sirius was fascinated by Remus’s ability to glow with sun-kissed health and appear on the edge of death.

“Alright. You’ve studied every centimetre of me, what’s your assessment?” Remus teased, poking his tongue into his cheek.

Sirius arched an eyebrow as his gaze dragged leisurely over Remus’s lanky figure. “It’s a cursory evaluation at best. A ‘study’ would require a thorough examination, extensive experimentation, and detailed research.”

Remus’s lips twitched with amusement before pursing into an exaggerated “thoughtful” expression. The furrowed brows were a bit much, Sirius mused. He did have nice, full eyebrows though. Perhaps they were the reason that his eyes were captivating.

No, it’s the laugh lines.

Only someone who smiled often had deep creases around their eyes. James had laugh lines too. He’d sketched them while his best friend was telling an amusing story. They were a reflection of the pure joy trapped inside him.

Was Remus filled with pure joy too?

“Do you want to study me?” Remus asked. He tilted his head and a loose curl swayed against his temple.

“Perhaps.”

Remus fidgeted, toying with the hem of his beanie. “What’s your initial assessment then?”

Sirius folded his arms over his chest and considered the bloke in front of him. Remus wasn’t quite as confident now that he was on his feet. He seemed more at ease when he was flat on his back.

Interesting.

“You’re Welsh-”

“Obviously.”

“-spend quite a bit of time outside-”

“Correct.”

“-are not a dog person-”

“Sorry, Padfoot.”

“-and have terrible taste in clothes.”

Remus snorted a laugh, but he tugged at the jacket self-consciously. “Agree to disagree.”

“Your turn,” Sirius prompted.

“Well, your accent isn’t as pronounced as your brother’s,” Remus began. He idly stroked Padfoot’s head and avoided Sirius’s gaze. “So, I suppose you’ve lived in the UK a bit longer.”

Sirius nodded curtly, but didn’t interrupt.

“You’re decent on the ice, so you must have had lessons.” Remus glanced up for confirmation, then faltered at Sirius’s neutral expression. “Or skated as a child?”

When Sirius didn’t respond, Remus scratched his arm and looked away. “You dress like a skiver, but clearly put a lot of effort into it. I reckon you don’t like being perceived as posh.”

“Do you always create fanciful life stories for people you’ve just met?” Sirius asked.

Remus shook his head, intently focused on petting Padfoot’s head. “Only the ones I find interesting.”

“I’m not interesting, I’m attractive.”

“And humble too?”

Sirius shrugged nonchalantly. “I prefer honesty to humility.”

“That’s fair,” Remus agreed. He chewed his bottom lip with his teeth before meeting Sirius’s eyes again. “For the sake of honesty, I know quite a bit about you. Lily’s talked you up and so has James. Regulus less so, but still.”

“Hmm, it sounds like you’re studying me.” Sirius smirked and relaxed his stance. “Go on, I don’t mind.”

A startled huff preceded Remus’s incredulous grin. “I guess I am.”

Already did these animations for the older model a while back, but I dont recall if I posted them here. I reused and modified the older animation for the new one and they turned out pretty nice. Simplified the smear frames by a lot.

Both of the attacks are going to be direct throwbacks to one of my fav Megaman 8/MM&B boss.

TSIME: Meet Bobby's Crew (part 1)

One of my favorite parts of writing is actually just character creation. I love knowing exactly what they look like and all kinds of fun details about them, even if those details never end up in the actual story. So I figure, since I wasted tons of time making long character profiles for them, I figured I might as well write them up, make them pretty, and share them. Why am I doing this? Because sharing is caring. Duh. Defnitely not because I'm avoiding editing. How dare you?

ANYWAY. In this post we're meeting Bobby's best friend, his husband, and their daughter.

Meet Louis:

🗸 Louis is a loving, generous soul and does not charge Bobby rent. But he does occassionally ask for baked goods and Bobby always obliges.

🗸 Before they even got engaged, he insisted on paying for all of Dean's sick mum's housing and care, to take the stress off of his beloved.

🗸 He's a homebody who hates traveling. He finds it stressful and doesn't like feeling unmoored. He decided against going to a prestigious culinary school because he didn't want to leave Glasgow.

🗸 He and Lili get along because they're both type-A snugglers.

🗸 Comes from a wealthy family. His mother is a very successful estate agent and his father was a popular rugger (now retired). He's an only child.

🗸 His father, who grew up working class, decided that Louis should go to public school so he'd experience the real world outside of their wealthy bubble.

🗸 In school Louis was routinely, sometimes viciously bullied for being posh. Something he never told his family. But he didn't come out until he was twenty years old because he feared even more bullying for being gay. His parents had already guessed and gave him nothing but love and support.

🗸 Louis was not happy when Bobby added Jonno to their friend group in P6 and even less happy when Fenella was added when they were adults. He puts up with them because he loves Bobby and just accepts that his best friend is the type who brings mangy strays home, thinking they're beautiful. And who is Louis to tell him they're not? That said, they're not all mingin'. He adores Maitland and Nivaan.

🗸 Despite being so tall and muscular, Dean is a fluffy bunny of a man. Very sentimental and kind. He will not kill bugs. If Louis wants a spider squashed, he's on his own.

🗸 He has four siblings, one sister and three brothers. He was the youngest. His home life was not great. His family was incredibly poor and his dad was abusive, sexist, and homophobic (among other award-winning personality traits). His mother was loving, but very passive and preferred not to rock the boat.

🗸 When he was fourteen he was trying to make sense of his bisexuality, so he confided in his mum. One of his older brothers overheard and told their dad. To say it was handled poorly would be an understatment. Hurt, scared, and unwelcome in his home, he moved in with his sister, an artist who lives in Rochdale. He says she is the person who actually raised him to be a decent person.

🗸 His mum and dad divorced when she had two strokes and his fuckface father wasn't interested in caring for her. Dean routinely comes down to Norfolk to take care of her affairs as she didn't want to move. His brothers do care about their mum, but theyre mostly skivers who don't know how to be helpful. His sister keeps in contact with Dean, but she has no interest in being near the the rest of the family so he's the only one taking care of his mum.

🗸 His dad and brothers actually have the nerve to try demanding money and help from him, because they know Louis is wealthy. Never mind that they have not supported their marriage and have never said a kind word to either of them. Dean has never given them a dime.

🗸 He has never and will never ever admit this to anyone, but the night he met Bobby at the pub, he assumed the Scot was grafting and he was 100% ready to take him back to his hotel room. So he was confused when Bobby told him he'd called his friend Louis and he was coming to the pub to meet Dean. Then Louis showed up and Dean could hardly speak because he was so instantly and completely smitten. It was weeks later that he realized Bobby was just obliviously flirtatious with everyone.

Haven't seen one of these floating around for the recent MTAP tag but here's some gameplay tips I've picked up as a newbie who picked this up while it was 80% off on steam. I was mega stressed early on due to not knowing things and would be happy to pass on advice to save others the stress:

1. Reddit is good for advice and tumblr is penalizing me for links so yeah. Use the reddit community and/or wiki when stuck. Link to a decent set of advice is in the replies to this post.

2. Repair your workshop as soon as possible bc you'll wake up with low stamina daily until that gets done. Doesn't take more than like 30ish or so pieces of wood.

3. Yep the advice to make more than one machine is correct. Even for the blender. Maybe not the cooking setup or basic skiver per se. Yes, this will use up resources and space. Use the For Sale sign to expand space (or be like me and try to cram a level 2 house into a space too small for it 😅).

4. In the small planter boxes, grow lettuce, cotton, and wheat as much as possible if you can. You can also grow other things, but these seem to be the most helpful for feeding mounts and skiver crafting. Large boxes are for the special giant seeds and you can get the box from the church store and seeds from the Mysterious Man. Fertilize often to have the best shot at winning the Autumn Festival!

5. No, you can't have a rival romance with Higgins, tragically. But you can spar and body block him and chat to him until 9 AM to prevent him from taking commissions, especially the fancy valuable ones. I'm currently chill with being at rank 2 in my first year so I don't bother yet. I still think we should be allowed to woo him. As a treat. And mechanic to make him nicer 😅. Btw once he scams you (you'll know when) talk to him as soon as possible after and you can at least guilt him into giving you money.

6. No seriously do use Gust's shop in A&G to swap for 999 wood and keep furnaces running. You'll get wayyy too much stone from mining and the first quarry only gives so much marble for stone tables to sell en masse when the market is up. Other quarries are annoying to get to in the early game. Use the excess for wood first, then making stone bricks or stone tools etc to sell or whatever. Go wild. I make excess glass to sell since it's more profitable than raw resource selling, yep even with the wood cost. Still haven't figured out how to make excess soil more profitable besides planter boxes.

7. If you don't wanna feel like a monster for killing llamas for their worn fur, you can totally kill panbats. I like all the critters so I feel like a monster regardless 🥴. Kinda has to be done for certain quests and quest items tho.

8. Make allll the Dee-Dee Stops you can for the spots marked on the map. You can also have your mount follow you to the next stop.

9. Bring or make stamina repletion food when mining, esp if you have the game speed slowed down and don't run to the Round Table to replete (you have a limited number of things you can eat and can only eat once daily... Or you could try sitting for an hour if you aren't like me and it won't drive you crazy to sit and do nothing).

10. Annoying timed storyline quest needed items that you can collect earlier while the main story has no time limit for progression per se: pretty much all ores/ore products and special mining items like valves and engines, wild cocoons, ironwood (more than you think), bat wings, bamboo papaya, information discs (I keep the extra beyond the ones I give Petra for research in general for the storyline quest diagrams; I can complete the relics later), knight badges from the Round Table (minimum 250 of them), old parts, crystal necklace x1, dog food x1, soap x1, wildflower bouquet from Alice x1, tempering fluid, copper and steel wire, steel planks, welding rods. Can't think of the other ones that were super urgent and non-commission board rn as of Winter 1st (my latest stopping point) but yeah this is totally a hoarding game.

11. P.S. To get into the hazardous ruins area as a lower level, literally just dodge and run for 60 seconds. Do a hit if you feel brave. Yes, it's cowardly but it totally works and unlocks neat stuff you really need for certain quests. You can kick their asses later.

12. The worst that can happen if you die is that you get warped back home. Same for passing out at 3 AM but without the health depletion. Use that knowledge for what you will. I've noticed in boss battles it just bumps me back to the start of the battle with full health and stamina so I only get warped back further in other situations.

I recently finished Cassette Beasts! It's an amazing Game (despite the technically issues it has on Switch) and of course I had to make my own OC!

Skiver is actually a Character, I have since quite a while now but it has been used for several ideas at this point. Now I think, it found it's perfect place. Below the cut, I'll show some old Designs of this lil guy!

Skiver is an Air-Type Monster with an affinity to Poison. It's also a huge Glass-Canon with high Speed and Attack but low Defense and mediocre HP.

It can also be remastered to a Monster named Orbat, which I have yet to design. As well as it's Ranger xD but one at a time xD

I recreated the Summary Screen of the Game as well as the Tape :3 Really like the Sticker of Skiver on it tbh xD

If anyone is interested, I could offer the Template free to use for other Peoples CB-OCs!

This was the first Design I made of Skiver 6 years ago (2017)! Back then he was meant to be a Character for an RP that got discontinued after a while xD His name was R-180 or Radar xD

This was the second design of him! This is from 2019! I renamed im to Vleiffle, which was the idea of a Friend back then! He was meant to be a Monster-Companion for a MMO-Class in my Original Story CyberGhost back then! Cyberghost kinda got scrapped tho after a while xD

This was the last Version I made of Skiver later in 2019! I tried to turn Vleiffle into a Digimon and rename it to Vleifflemon. It kinda fit but I had no use for him for so long, so I scrapped the idea again xD Since then he was kinda catching dust until Cassette Beasts came along xD
