I would like to offer this resource for therians, an extensive list of all of Sir David Attenborough’s nature documentaries that are available on soap2day, and a full list of what species* they each (notably, prominently) feature the natural behaviors of, separated by episode, and omitting species that were only shown dead, juvenile or being predated on. This took me a while (I have been working on it since Prehistoric Planet’s release) because I did in fact have to watch every single series in full in order to list all the species and the episodes are around 50 minutes long, but enjoy.

Long post ahead:

Most of these shows have closed captioning, which is why I’ve picked soap2day. Planet Earth is the only one that doesn’t. I did not include Dynasties and Dynasties II because each episode only features one species.

ohhh my gosh thank you for asking this. this is the perfect opportunity to rant abt my hoards !!

putting a cut bc i don’t wanna take up peoples feeds if they don’t care haha

okay so if we’re talking in this realm (fancy name for here and now) then i hoard plushies primarily! I used to collect beanie boos (had a well loved community that is now in a guilt bag in the spare room somewhere) but i’ve moved on to merchandise and squishmallows mostly- anyway they cover my whole room and bed and i love them so much !! not keeping surrounded by a pile of items i love feels wrong… those dragonic instincts i guess! and maybe angelic ones bc they feel like sleeping in a large and safe group? idk ..

one thing that i hoarded as a dragon and right now is crystals! they are so interesting and fun to look at, i’ve built up my collection over a super long time because i’ve boarded crystals for as long as i remember! usually i keep them in a treasure chest in my room but they are also spread out everywhere. i feel super connected to the crystals opal, tigers eye and amethyst! also rose quarts, citrine and a few others I can’t think of right now ! my favourite item in my crystal hoard is the large chunk of dark amethyst I keep by my bed, i got it as a gift from my mother a few years ago.

Now here’s the super fun one .. i’m a past life otherkin/therian/nonhuman so I remember keeping a large hoard in my western ice dragon life specifically!! I kept giant crystals, amulets and other jewellery, anything shiny that I saw whilst flying around the mountains in my cave. Treasure that had rolled down the mountain sides when travellers perished on their journeys was super easy to spot in the bright white snow but got covered up quickly. Very fun to search for and collect. In my life as a forest wyvern i don’t think i kept much as i travelled frequently, though i did instinctively grab anything that looked interesting and was intelligent enough to trade in those finds with more powerful dragons for food.

Hey! So I'm on a mission to make sure the alterhuman/non-human/otherkin/and so many others/ communities are properly represented. I'm a snow leopard kin and voidkin myself and know that there are a lot of misconceptions about us, a long with just not much information on some certain topics about our communities. With all of that being said, if you were to see more writing about our communities, what do you think needs to be mentioned more often?

I think the community is small enough that really nothing is "over"-represented. Even with so-called common types like wolves and dragons, there's always more to be said, more richness and depth of experience to discuss and explore! I also think there's a difference between goals of representing the community to others (e.g. how to explain things to professionals such as researchers and therapists) and representation in in-community art, stories, writings etc., which is more about varied self-expression and can include anything, so long as it's authentic.

To outsiders, particularly professionals, I think it's important to highlight the way these communities can be healthy and helpful, and correct pathologizing misconceptions. I'd also love to see more discussion of the (currently limited research) on overlaps with autism and the sheer number of transgender otherkin/therians/etc.

Within the community, I think it's best if each person enthusiastically represents themselves, rather than worrying about what is and isn't common or 'good' representation- it's all ingredients for community soup.
