Gem watches Pearl look up from where she has once again managed to sneak into her bed in the middle of the night, curled up on the side Gem isn’t using. She takes up remarkably little space for someone who is both as tall and as buff as she is, Gem thinks; Gem’s pretty sure Pearl could confine herself to a single pillow and nothing else if she tried hard enough, curl into a small enough ball to become nearly invisible.

Gem’s not sure what she thinks about that. She used to sprawl out.

“You have your own base,” Gem says. “I mean, I think you do. It’s not under more construction than I think it is, right?”

“Mhm,” Pearl says, still mostly curled into a little space.

“I’m just saying, your own bed is probably more comfortable. I kick in my sleep. And I know that bruises.”

“Don’mind,” Pearl says sleepily. “Bruises okay.”

Gem is quiet for a moment.

“No Pearl, they aren’t.”

Pearl seems to startle some. She starts to sit up, still taking up as little space as possible. “You can’t help it,” she says, suddenly almost desperately awake. “You can’t - I know you can’t help it. I don’t mind. You haven’t kicked hard enough to break anything. I don’t - they don’t matter. It’s warmer here. Less hollow, I don’t feel where he should - it’s better. Please don’t kick me out.”

“I’m - Pearl, I’m not kicking you out,” Gem says.

“Please don’t,” Pearl says.

“I wouldn’t kick you out. I just - Pearl, you aren’t okay.”

“I’m fine,” Pearl says. “I’m fine. I’m - nothing’s wrong with me.”

“You aren’t,” Gem says.

“You can’t help kicking. Bruises aren’t that bad. Can I just...”

“You can keep sleeping here,” Gem says. “You can keep - I’ll make a bigger bed. Or wait for you to come in, so I don’t sleep facing where I keep kicking you.”

Pearl falls quiet.

“Oh,” she says. “Okay. That’s - that’s fine.”

“I just...”

“I’m fine.”

“What did they do to you?”

“Nothing I deserved, I think, but also nothing I didn’t deserve.”

“What does that mean?”

Pearl doesn’t answer. Gem watches her for a while. She hates this. She wishes they’d stop doing it. The first time had been bad enough, but Pearl had been mostly okay, and Gem had put it aside, and Pearl acts mostly okay during the day, it’s just - it’s just this is the fifth night in a row, and the first time she’s gotten her to talk. It’s just...

“Alright,” Gem says. “Alright. It’s still late. We can go back to sleep. Alright.”

“Mhm,” Pearl says. “Night, Scott.”

Gem swallows.

Phoenix being a little spiritually sensitive is so special to me, yes he can hear and kind of see Mia without the aid of a medium sometimes, that is Not Normal! In the third game’s epilogue it’s mentioned that he goes through some spirit medium training with Maya and Pearl, I think it’s mostly to symbolize that he’s practically a Fey now but I also think that something spooky should’ve happened.

Also using the magatama so much should affect him a little, just for funsies.

i love suns and pebbles canon dynamic in my head its kind of weird and fucked up and i wish more people depicted it as that (tag ramble incoming)

#i have a lot of thoughts about suns as a character #since theres not much from them in the story its mostly headcanon though #i think suns is someone who desperately wants to be liked and admired #like maybe theyre one of the youngest in their local group (i think theyre in a separate neighboring group to moons) #and they're not really used to being looked up to in any capacity #so pebbles is the first person who really respects them in that way and because of that they have this weird contradictory relationship #where sometimes suns relishes in that dynamic a little too much and holds the power over pebbles head and gets a little mean #and sometimes because suns still wants pebbles to keep liking and admiring them they can get a little too indulgent of him #hence the gold pearl. i think suns gave it to him bc they wanted him to find some kind of happiness but there was also a selfish element #'if i give this to him he'll like me more' etc #i dont think suns is intentionally cruel i just think they had never had that kind of relationship before and fucked a lot of things up #after spearmaster they start to get better at it esp since spearmaster is kind of a second chance for them. so suns learns to be kinder #on pebbles' end. i like to think pebbles was a lil infatuated with them. esp because he felt like they were the only one who understood him #unreciprocated tho. suns cared about him but more from a mentorly point of view than anything #kind of a weird thing where he looked up to them as an authority figure but also really kind of wanted them to be on the same level #in conclusion: toxic robot yuri can be cool sometimes #text #rain world

ok i already redesigned Gem after seeing a very very pretty dress. So I did a bit more thinking and some more Prism research and I have an idea of how she works in this AU now :D

She still has a bit of the elven theme but I wanted to focus more on how flowy the fabrics were and also give her more armor pieces. The armor is based more on porcelain corsets rather than actual armor tho lol

In Prism a magical girl's power is defined by how many colors they have, how much the colors appear on their outfit, and how vibrant the colors are. Generally girls only have two colors: a main and an accent. Gem has a very vibrant main color, but her accent color (yellow) is very minimal, so technically she is not that powerful. Shes like mid-to-low tier power-wise. But she does not look that way and though she's not as powerful, she lasts a long time in a fight. It takes a good while for her vibrancy to go down.

Her weapon is a staff that is very good at bonking people. It can extend out into different lengths and thats about all it can do lol. Simple and effective

Her Prism's name is still Mackenzie, a very playful prism who enjoys pranking and hiding, particularly in clothing. She is a gremlin

In the story, Gem was a nurse who worked primarily in the ER department, so every once in a while she will have a magical girl or two rushing someone into the ER because of yknow villain fights and stuff. She got curious about it and dragged Pearl into joining her.
