#kingdom hearts dream drop distance #khddd #la cite des cloches #scenery #my gif #the battle music that plays here creates such a cool and grand atmosphere #i'm so used to spending most of my time in the town or at the cathedral that i forget how dark and gloomy this world can be #sora has to walk past thousands upon thousands of skeletal remains and we don't even get a single cutscene of him reacting to any of it #but i like that there are at least some big open spaces that let you go crazy with flowmotion and climb up the tall buildings and towers #and that you can actually climb up the cathedral from the town square below #but one of my favorite parts in the whole game is playing through riku's side of the story in this world #i love the themes it explores and the insight it provides for his character. so good

moved to karut to pursue education + dreams, doesn’t get to visit home often if at all but always writes to her family

#stommy #momo.txt #no upside down au established stommy they leave hawkins together #go to college and get a shitty tiny 3 bedroom apartment in the city #that they share with robin and carol #because they cant go anywhere without their girls #and Tommy's already had his redemption he's trying to be nicer and do better #but his sharp edges are softening even more in the city #he gets to wake up in the morning in his boyfriends arms he gets to explore this side of himself #they watch bastball games together and hug and kiss and cheer whenever their team scores #he can slap steves ass when he's making breakfast and tommy comes up behind him #because theyre both still jocks #carol makes a chore chart and sticks it to the fridge so they can rotate through all the chores in the shared spaces #gives everyone baskets to keep in the bathroom to keep all their products separate (this is mostly for carol and steve)#robin is dating vickie and she wants what stommy has she wants to wake up in the morning to her gf but she can't just ask her to move in!!#tommy says yes you can suck it up and fucking ask her to move in next semester already #steve is a little nicer and reminds rob that vickie loves her and she'd never be mean about it if she wasnt ready to move in #but she totally is so thats a non issue #they all go to parties at frat houses and steve and tommy drink and dance and use the alcohol as an excuse to get all touchy in public #carol flirts and goes home with some hottie of the week #she's having fun being single and exploring herself and the dating world #robin dances and has fun but eventually just goes home with vickie #they have fun they build up this lil friend group and its everything and theyre free #they made it out of hawkins theyre away from their parents #im just!!!!!#aaaaaaaa #theyre fun to think about i love them #if anyone is reading this i love u

There needs to be more games where I can play as an all-consuming hive mind accumulating and hoarding everything I can

Oddly enough the two games I feel do this best are Stellaris (ravenous swarm hive mind devouring the entire galaxy) and Factorio (mechanical instead of biological, consuming resources exponentially in a vast glorious machine network)

i don't think sonic translates particularly well into open world environments so it probably would be for the best if future games didn't go the same route as frontiers HOWEVER. they should return to the formula of huge hub worlds to give us a space to run around and goof off in like in frontiers. i want them to take sa1 06 and unleashed and expand on what they did. maybe make seamless transitions from hub world into stage environments who knows!!

#soda offers you a can #idk open worlds are about exploration and sonic games aren't really exploration games bc you're supposed to go fast yeacool #and frontiers i think has trouble rewarding the player for exploration in meaningful ways?#you're given so many resources so easily in the base game that you kinda don't need to explore that much unless you go for completion #the dlc handles it a bit better by making skill points easier to get through exploration and doing the platforming challenges #and making some map expansions only accessible that way #and like even when you find cool environmental storytelling it's not always acknowledged in the moment #which makes it easy to miss cool lore implications at least for me #but fucking around in big spaces is fun! and i think that would translate well into hub worlds #bc those don't need to be huge platforming and speed experiences. like they can have those but they're optional you know?#idk im spitballing and im not a gamedev or anything i don't know things but something like this could be rly cool going forward?

another thing about starfield, as someone who, yes, are you fucking kidding me i would be a space explorer if I could, no reservations about it, is that it lets me envision this embodiment of what my life could’ve been if I’d been born 300 years later. does that make sense? like it’s not just a game i like playing for fun in the same way as something like cyberpunk or fallout. it is for me, genuinely, the closest I’ll ever get to this true want that i have that i’ll never be able to attain.

consider sarah morgan. the explorer. made to explore space. what on earth would she be doing if nobody invented the grav drive?

but i have no choice. stuck on earth and I think that’s such a shame.

i mean, maybe it’s all nonsense and science fiction is science fiction. if i’d never been exposed to this type of media, had the seed planted, would i feel the same as i do now? i guess that argument doesn’t matter because we all have our influences that push us in certain directions, but ultimately it is us who choose to continue in that direction.

maybe humans will never reach other planets or solar systems. i hate to be pessimistic but we already have seemingly insurmountable problems on this planet.

the truth is, we don’t fucking know what the future holds. we’re already living in some old dreamer’s sci-fi fantasy right now. tiny metal boxes that show us anything we want and let us communicate across the planet instantaneously? all of human knowledge at our fingertips? virtual worlds that let us envision our wildest dreams? shit, what i do now, software development, is itself a passion reserved for only those lucky enough to live alongside it.

so maybe there is hope for some sarah morgan one day.

but what about the dreamers lost in time?

i have been waiting for starfield my whole life.

and it will stay with me as long as i live.
