i don't know how exactly to put it but i'm not too fond of the headcanon that "tigerstar wouldn't have grown up to be evil if pinestar actually did stay in the clans" (in a scenario where he still doesn't kill him, obviously) because while yeah sure, seeing it as a tragic self-fulfilling prophecy looks fun on the surface, i don't like the implied narrative of simply being in a nuclear family as being a ward against becoming evil, considering how weird warriors is about motherhood and nuclear family units in general (see: that article they put out a while back where they blamed nightheart's deal on sparkpelt being a single parent and suggesting that "if he lived larksong would have convinced her out of being unreasonable and giving her son such a silly name hahaha". ugh). i also think it's a little boring to put all of the blame for tigerstar being a war criminal and tyrant onto pinestar's loosely connected actions specifically when the real working force in-universe is the toxicity of the clan system and the xenophobia and ruthless ambition it drives in.

#not touching the age gap discourse but i still think pinestar is a very interesting and ultimately sympathetic character #not to diminish all the shit leopardfoot went through for it tho #like i think pinestar is not the problem here i think it is thistleclaw and the society that made thistleclaw actually. sorry #in a formative moment tigerpaw was encouraged by his clan to beat the shit out of a kitten for being an outsider

Meet Button & Match

Characters in the Cable AU tend to come in pairs, duos or dichotomies, and Button and Match are no exception! :) Being the two game controllers that Kris and Asriel used to play with on their old TV, the twins have always been inseparable.

After the Divide, many darkners were left purposeless, and with their friend Tenna having gone missing, Button and Match were left out of use. Roaming the Channels and the City, causing trouble, picking play fights, and hoping to find someone who would want to play with them.

Though their idea of "playing" might be a bit too aggressive for the average darkner. Who doesn't like fighting games?

speaking of goosefeather and yellowfang i actually gave a reason for why they have powers at all in the rewrite.

it essentially boils down to starclan being terrified at the near immediate promise of superpowered beings being born from their collective action to allow/vote for skyclan to be exiled; because they pissed off whatever higher power that resides beyond them. it's established in canon that starclan is not responsible for every prophecy, INCLUDING the po3 one.

so, in an effort to combat these future threats, they attempted to create the three on their own. and if that failed, they could still use these cats as tools to fight whatever was to come.

goosefeather was the first "blessed" cat, and it shows. his powers tap into that higher source of prophecies/omens, things that the mortal ear was never meant to hear--it fucks with him. he gets bombarded with visions and warnings of scenarios he will never live to see, and it ends up causing more trouble for himself and the clan than good. starclan realized this and goes "oh shit" and backs off for a while.

yellowfang is next, though her power is reeled back a fair amount. it's still intrusive, specifically when she's younger, but it does something. she's pushed into the healers den because of this.

i have more thoughts about brokenkit being framed as a harebringer of destruction by starclan to take some heat off their back, but that's a very WIP thing atm.

tdlr; starclan fucked around and found out...and unintentionally unleashed multiple tyrants onto the forest. one plus is that a certain ginger kittypet is brought to their attention because of this chaos, though.

Funny how all it takes is a couple of conversations with a cis straight man about gender to make me go "yup I'm definitely not cis"

#listen I adore my stepfather ok but he's got a pretty traditional view of gender #he's very respectful of others and doesn't enforce it on anyone else #and I think it's not that toxic all things considered bc he sees 'manhood' as being primarily about being hard working and protecting other #but it's still very gender essentialist #and he sees a lot of things as 'man things' and 'woman things'#and talks about skills and roles that are 'men's'#and I'm just like well but I do a lot of those things. but I identify with a lot of the things you describe.#and he tries to go around it like 'ahh well but you have personal history with that' etc etc #we get along really well tho we don't fight or anything but it's interesting to me #it makes me realize just how much I'm outside of the binary in the eyes of cis people #and how much 'trying to be a man' or 'trying to be a woman' are things that hold no emotional meaning to me(personally)#I could not care less what makes me masculine or feminine or if either of those labels are revoked for some reason #taking on the label of woman or man feels like a burden to me bc it always comes with a set of expectations #I just wanna be me yk. omfg I am so behind on this (and yes I’ve only become aware of it because Nicholas Galitzine offof rwarb is in it) but they’re making a fucking Duke of Buckingham series!!!

And you’re all sitting there like “who??” well let me tell you about this absolute fuck.

George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham was the favourite of King James VI&I and by favourite I do mean it in the gayest of ways. (He started life as Sir George, the shittest of titles, and fucked his way to a Dukedom.)

Long story short, here’s a list of things I need to see in this series or I will SUE:

George slut dropping his way into James’s bed. (I mean, he danced for him, but whatever the 17th century equivalent to slut dropping was you can bet George was doing it.)

The exasperation of James’s advisors when he picks yet another beautiful young man to fuck and give totally unreasonable amounts of money and power to.

Even funnier if they show them actively helping George overthrow James’s old favourite before realising “oh shit this one’s worse.”

George failing consistently at every job he was given. (Yes I know he didn’t actually but where’s the comedy in competency? Give me himbo George or give me death.)

Parliament calling James to task on George being a fucking useless nuisance and James standing up in front of parliament and literally saying, “You may be sure that I love the Earl of Buckingham more than anyone else, and more than you who are here assembled. I wish to speak in my own behalf, and not to have it thought to be a defect, for Jesus Christ did the same, and therefore I cannot be blamed. Christ had his John, and I have my George.” (Huge points for throwing Jesus under the gay bus too.)

James practically arranging George’s marriage for him and then riding his horse around the park crying because George, shock, got married.

What better be the dirtiest sex scenes ever broadcast on British television that lead to the “master and dog” letter.

The consistent drama queenery from James, e.g:

I refuse to tag this as a spoiler because it happened 400 years ago: George smothering James and then playing the heartbroken widow to his son. (Historically debated, if anyone wants details shoot me an ask.)

George getting stabbed to death in what was probably the justified climax of him being the most irritating man alive.

George’s assassin getting the warmest send off ever given by any crowd at a public execution cause the people hated George so fucking much.

i love cuddy but i find the huddy relationship thematically boring compared to hilson and hameron...it's not her fault tho!! bc she's just not enough of a foil to house like wilson and cameron are. cameron is house's conscious, wilson is his reflection and cuddy is his enabler :/ so the curse of her character is no matter how many times she tries to stand up to house, he will ALWAYS manipulate her, trick her, and eventually circumnavigate her and she will LET him! she'll even help him do it!! cameron and wilson are really the only ones who actually are able to stop him, and half the time wilson isn't even stopping him, he's just pointing out the truth of the matter after the fact...but it's still a point of conflict and something for house to push up against—with cuddy there just isn't that same tension

#conversely with cameron the tragedy of her character is that over time she isn't able to stand up to house as effectively #or she is sometimes but it takes more of a toll on her #and she hasn't learned to take the wilson route in accepting house as he is but still pointing out his flaws #which is a benefit of an over 20 year relationship I'm sure #so she does what she typically does when faced with this sort of conflict and runs away <3 #if she had only learned to manage that flight response tho i imagine she could have ended up very similar to wilson somewhere down the line #but i think she's too strict on herself to ever allow that to happen- would have been interesting tho!#in the end it was always going to be hilson that was the only option that ever made sense with all of their characters #house md

I have a sudden, unsolicited opinion on the moment where Ochako admits that she fell in love with Izuku. Since it has been going around as one of those context-less, surface level articles on Google(I spotted it too)

So it's talking about the moment when Ochako is fighting Toga and she tells her that she fell in love with Izuku.

Does she use the exact wording? Yes.

Does that mean it's an end all declaration? Does it mean she is endgame with Izuku? I do not think so.

I don't think it's the final nail in the coffin to the argument for any other ship involving Izuku or Ochako. Here's why:

The admission is so anticlimactic.

We have known for a while that Ochako has complicated feelings about Izuku. We know that it has been a bit of a crush. And that has led to ANTICIPATION to see what becomes of those feelings.

But along the anticipation, we have also seen her going through some feelings of discomfort about the whole thing...unusual, for a supposed love interest of a Shonen manga!

So the audience has been waiting for a LONG time for something, anything, to happen between Ochako and Izuku that rewards that anticipation and that waffling on Ochakos part.

And for something like a supposed love confession, a line like "I fell in love with Izuku Midoriya", to heppen....

But NOT in a moment between Ochako and Izuku themselves, just also does not reward the anticipation that was built up.

She did not confirm and admit these feelings TO izuku. She admitted them to Himiko.

And that is the first time the audience hears her positively confirm that she had those feelings, blatantly.

But it TAKES AWAY from the actual relationship because Himiko received that confession...not Izuku.

We didn't get a charged confession between Ochako and Izuku. The relationship was STILL not mutually developed. It's still just a quality of Ochako, it says nothing about Izuku. The anticipation of Ochako having a crush, and changing, complicated feelings for Izuku and where that would eventually climax, where it would reach its peak for Ochako and Izuku both, instead is diverted. Kind of literally. Because it didn't happen at either chance they had to talk it out, to confess, she sent Izuku away when Himiko tried to trap him into a love discussion. She didnt bring it up before the war began even though they had such a calm moment to be able to do so. It didn't come out in the logical places. And now in the endgame, they have split up to fight different battles...Ochako has even exhausted everything she has right now to save Himiko and likely is out until we receive the wrap up.

So, the anticipation I mentioned, again, does not have a payout in the form of even a rushed battlefield confession because the two of them are fighting different battles.

Instead the audience is given the confirmation of "I fell in love with him" when he is not even present, when Ochako is not confessing to him or confronting him. It comes out with Toga, when she Is trying to reach out and level with her, it almost could read as a "I had a crush on the same boy" kind of statement. It comes out when saving Himiko is Ochakos main priority.

What I'm saying here is that Ochakos love confession for Izuku, which is usually a big deal in any story, is in the back seat to prioritize each of their other relationships and goals. Which is great that it is not forced upon us when there are bigger things happening, however it just does a disservice to the pairing itself when most of the feelings are expressed onesidedly, and an actual statement of love, if it's not even outdated because of changed feelings, means a lot less when it's not filling the gap between the two people in question. When the confession doesn't reach the other person.

(And I will go ahead and say that is kind of similar to how bkdk is right now as well, bc we have SO MUCH material on Katsukis side, about how he feels and how much he cares about Izuku, but not a lot on what Izuku feels or allows himself to feel about Katsuki. I will call that out as well.)

Like at this point, the best we could hope for, for Ochako and Izuku being a couple, is a very open note about it in the aftermath. Like maybe Ochako asks Izuku if he would like to get crepes with her. That's just enough given context clues to suggest to the audience that yes there are still some feelings there, she heard what he said about crepes and holding hands and took note of it, but also that Izuku himself is willing to explore those feelings as well. It would be Ochako finally choosing her feelings for Izuku, but without it being too sudden for Izuku to accept. This whole time we are not shown Izuku crushing on her at all it would be strange to have him suddenly initiate.

But anything more romantic and profound than that? Any dramatic reveal/confession of feelings, any chance for them to have a moment in the midst of war to have the "i love you" discussion? That has been bypassed time and time again. Horikoshi COULD HAVE WORKED IT IN, IF IT WERE A PRIORITY TO HAVE THEM ENDGAME. While no, romance doesn't have to be a priority in a Shonen, and Ochako has flipped the script on how she handles her feelings as a shonen love interest, Hori has demonstrated that threads and concepts of romance ARE part of his narrative.

And right now? Hot take, but the most romantic thread that Izuku, his main character, finds himself in, is whatever the hell is going on between him and Katsuki Bakugou.

You'd just think if the mc was going to be with a romantic partner, a girl, by the end of the story, something would have happened.

I feel like I'm going in circles past my point, but it boils down to Izuku not having any indication of interest in Ochako besides friendliness....the fact that the audience received confirmation of Ochako loving Izuku from her telling a 3rd party and NOT her subject, and the anticipation of that confession, built up for YEARS of this manga and animes run, of supposed feelings not really being paid off, if the two are meant to be the romantic end game. It also boils down to the fact that the anticipation of the confession had a CHANCE to occur with Izuku, the subject, multiple times. It boils down to again, ochako and Izukus relationship being romantic in anyway being little more than an after thought.

AND! it doesn't even guarantee that her feelings of love for him are still the same! We don't know for sure if she STILL loves Izuku!

So yeah. I hope this made sense, but it sure feels anticlimactic to have a love confession(supposedly) not even occur while the subject is present, where the audience can view it and celebrate that long awaited conclusion.

As always, these articles that pop up on Google leave a lot of context out, and are very face value. They saw Ochako say the L word and called it endgame. There is a reason I don't read them.

#prince myshkin #lev nikolayevitch myshkin #the idiot #myshkin #no but i really think there are legitimate reasons to argue that myshkin could be seen as an autistic character #other than the fact that he literally checks of every criteria #there's also the fact that there is a frequent comorbidity of epilepsy and autism #which makes me think (tho i have not nearly done enough research on this to make any actual claims)#that there is a possibility that traits which we would today associate with autism could back in the day #before the term autism even existed #could be seen as something common among epicleptic people #and given that myshkin is already canonically neurodivergent and epileptic #it really isn't a stretch to say that if we were to apply modern day terminology on a 19th century character #he could be seen as an early example of an autistic character #which makes it very interesting to note how people in the book view and interact with him #(and even without the possible autism he's still a canon neurodivergent character cast as the protagonist in a 19th century book #which on its own is really interesting #especially considering the fact that dostoyevsky drew from experiences with his own epilepsy)#for example canon infantilization (which this post is definitely a joke on) the whole 'idiot' thing etc.#also the way he views himself! he has so much internalised ableism #i also think it's interesting that another character that exhibits a lot of autistic traits is kirillov #who's also canonically epileptic #my post #vince talks
