Hi Gina, Hope you are enjoying the great weekend weather! Just wondering are you on Discord? I joined last time the you are home stuff was active but I can’t figure it out. Everybody seems to be taking at once and I can’t make heads or tails of it. (And I like to believe I’m pretty tech savvy. Lol) Just tried to look up the “Stomper” thing there.
Hi darling. No, I’m not. I can’t deal with huge group chats like that. I don’t have anything reblogged about “stomper”. Daisie reminded me that when I had posted about it months ago, the post has come from a twitter account that apparently removed the photos after HSHQ requested it. I felt bad possibly revealing something H wanted kept secret, so I deleted my posts as well.
I don’t remember much about the posts other than us speculating that it was for the rumored documentary.

the making of stomper
harry styles x reader masterlist
summery: harry has his wife make the feature of his new music video
a/n: reader is described as an engineer and the "flashbacks" are italicized
Tumblr media
“Satellite was inspired by my love of Wall-e.” Harry explained. “I love the little guy, looking around in search for his point of life—so human, really.”
~
“I need your skills.” Harry ambiguously stated, rushing into the bedroom and meeting Y/n who was relaxing on the bed on her laptop.
"Come again?" Y/n laughed, confused by her husbands question and vaguely raunchy implications.
Harry climbs on the bed, sitting between his wife's legs on his sock-clad feet, yes, the pair with holes in them. "I have an idea and I need your help building it."
Harry gave a sweet smile, the face he poses whenever he wants Y/n to build something for him, first it was a new camera, fixing up a new engine for an old car harry had his eyes on, and any other little thing Harry wanted. Y/n never minded of course, she enjoys creating new things and Harry was always there to help by any means he could. She enjoyed working on other things besides work--which at her level typically involved designing, no actual building.
"Intriguing , what is it?"
"Wall-e."
"Wall-e?"
"Wall-e."
"Huh." Y/n thought for a moment, before switching tabs on her laptop and opening up a new design file, labeling it "wall-e". "What's your vision."
"It's to go with Satellite and it would feature a little robot roomba thing thats looking for the meaning of life. It would walk or roll and move it's little face around." Harry summarized, stopping before he rambles too long, and make a list too extravagant.
“I’m down, I just need some time to think about what I’ll need and the process.” Y/n decided.
~
“Stomper was actually the 6th Stomper.” Harry thought back. “The first couldn’t move its head and only go very slowly on it’s little wheels. Two through four short-circuited. Five got injured by our cat. But six—he was a trooper.”
~
“Alright, we rolling?” Y/n spoke over to Harry, doing some final looks on the remote and Stomper.
“Yup! Ready for testing!” This was always Harry’s favorite part, despite it not being Y/n’s because she was always very thorough and was always waiting for a flaw with her creation. Harry, ever the optimist, was excited to see the little creature come to life.
“Okay, lemme just turn him on.” It was definitely a he this one, something in Y/n was just telling her it was a boy—as boyish a robot could be. But maybe she just thought the robot would act like Harry and all of his boyish charm.
Stomper grew to life, it’s “eyes” producing a subtle glow.
“Alright and moving forward—“ He moved, a little quicker then the others before him, which Y/n surprised and confused about. “Turning around…” The little robot did just that.
“It works?!” Harry shouted, letting the camera out of focus. He ran up to Y/n and hugged her tight, kissing her wherever his mouth could reach.
“Harry we got to give it more time, he might explode or something-“
“It’s perfect.” Harry chided, ignoring any concern his wife had for the little robot.
~
“I think Stomper was a subliminal message of some sort—“ Harry told the camera. He held on tight to the small child in this lap, who was trying to grab his ear and hair. “Y/n didn’t know she was pregnant yet. Only about a week after the music video went up Y/n had this epiphany that she didn’t have her period for the past two months—and the rest was history.”
Harry looked down at the little boy in his arms, brown hair showing through and a nose like his daddy’s. His eyes and lips through, were a copy and paste from his Mama.
“I joked that we should name him stomper--Y/n did not like that joke at all—so we settled on something else that will forever remain a mystery for you lot, or until I end up rambling uncontrollably.”
Harry, ever the scared Papa Bear, wouldn’t let anyone get a picture of any sort of the small boy. During the video, the boy was wearing a hat covering his face while Harry’s large hand would cover from the neck up. The only way you could know that Harry’s son was there was from the little grabby hands that kept making an appearance.
“But it’s getting close to this bubs nap time, so thank you for all the love.” Harry turned the camera off, smiling as he know the fans would love the one year special treat.
Harry went upstairs and met with his lovely wife taking a nap in their shared bed. His little boy yawned, causing Harry to yawn, so he knew it was family nap time.
“How’d it go?” Y/n whispered.
“Good.” Harry said, moving around so he could big spoon his son and wife. “Bubs was the star.”
“He takes after you.”
Harry smiled at the comment, but knew the opposite to be true. His little baby was showing signs of intelligence that could only be traced to his wife. “With any luck he’ll turn out just like his mama.”

jamesfrancish: Last November I got the chance to follow a little robot around the country for six days straight, all in the name of the Satellite music video for @harrystyles We started in the desert, snaking our way through canyons and endless rows of dormant winter farmland, to red sand dunes dusted with powder, all the way to snowy peaks, where the air was thin and the sky was filled with sequoias. Through it all was a robot vacuum, built and animated by the incredible @pascal_molina who worked magic to bring Stomper to life. Watching @aube_perrie and @christopher.c.ripley think on their feet and frame the world as we moved through it was something else. The entire trip was dedicated to the moment at hand, we’d jump out of the car and set up in a flash to capture a roadside scene just as it was. I count myself lucky to have seen their process of visualization, adaptation and creative fulfillment firsthand 🚀

Something SO fascinating about Harry’s music videos from this album are that none of them focus on him in like, a concrete way?
In As It Was, which I would argue is the most “Harry” focused- I think it was very much gender coded, plus all that super cool Matrix allegory (which in itself is also gender coded lol)
Then in Late Night Talking, it’s very much about Harry as people observe him, as they speculate and project their fantasies onto him, etc.
MFASR is about him as an object, about a commercial product, about him being seen as good when he’s useful, etc etc.
And now Satellite is the story of Stomper, the little robot that could, and is a metaphorical representation of loneliness, isolation, longing, and so on.
I’m just saying it’s interesting.

I think the the Satellite Music Video is a partial response to Question…? Here’s the timeline:
October 21st, 2022 - Taylor drops Midnights, and Question…? (with its OOTW sample) is track 7.
October 23rd - Harry starts his residency at the Kia Forum in LA, 15 nights between this date and Nov. 15th (including Harrywe’en) before concluding the NA leg of HSLOT and heading to LATAM.
November 2 - Harry begins to look unwell onstage.
November 4 - Harry has to reschedule a concert due to illness. Moves it to the 6th.
November 5,6,7 - concerts all rescheduled due to Harry’s illness.
Before November 15 - concerts are rescheduled for January 26, 27, and 29, 2023. Harry heads to LATAM.
January 26, 27, 29, 2023 - Harry plays rescheduled shows in LA
January 31 and February 1 - Harry plays 2 newly scheduled concerts in Palm Springs (the second on his 29th birthday).
February 5 - Grammy Awards in LA
February 11 - Brits in London
February 20 - Harry starts Australia/New Zealand/Asia leg in Perth, WA, Australia.
The video, which dropped May 3, 2023, starts with footage from a concert at the Forum.
Tumblr media
It took place on January 27th, 2023. But here’s the thing: the earliest anyone knew about this concert (for MV planning purposes) was November 8, 2022. It would not have been possible without Harry’s illness and subsequent rescheduling. That is the very earliest possible date, and it’s 2.5 weeks AFTER Question…?
The video is sweet, sad, and full of Easter eggs. For example, it starts with a Brian Cox voice over talking about how Curiosity rover had spent “10 lonely years” roving the red planet (so January 2013 to January 2023).

“I know there's been a lot of links to Wall-E, which is amazing. I'm not going to complain about that. Wall-E such an amazing character, an amazing story. But, believe it or not, this is definitely not how it started. It definitely started by looking at these objects, and thinking: 'oh, they look like the Mars Rover - and, oh, there is something interesting there because they're both very much alone.' This was the start of it all.
But when I started showing the treatment, Wall-E got mentioned and that did get me scared. I thought that if people see a robot at the start, and it feels sci-fi, its not going to work. It would not have the emotion that I want to bring in. I wanted something very mundane. I wanted this object to have nothing. And we tried that as much as possible.”
-Director Aube Perrie on the idea behind the robot from the Satellite music video, and not wanting people to compare Stomper to Wall-E. (2 August 2023)

I am really excited to watch Satellite. With that stomper/robot, it's not giving any chance to imagine what it would be. And I love harry's thoughts into his music videos! Thise are deep deep thoughts. Really really excited. Could may 3rd come any sooner?
Yeeees, fuck, if there's something I'd love to see Harry talking about in more depth that would be about his music videos. Honestly it's such a big deal because Harry is the kind of artist that could easily rely on very simple music videos with just his pretty face in it and stuff like that, but he likes to go so much further! He has so many proper good ones, they're all so layered, from a creative point of view is so fascinating. I'd love to pick his brain on that. His last music video is probably one of my faves so far, so I couldn't be more excited for Satellite.

Discussion Leader Presentation
youtube
A-Ha released Take On Me in 1985. The band is considered to be a one-hit wonder. Take On Me is considered to be about a girl that the lead singer, Morten Harket, wanted to be with. The song is Harket’s attempt to convince the girl to give him a chance on him, to “take him on.”
The music video shows a girl going in and out of a 2-D world, symbolizing her going in and out of consideration of taking a chance on Harket.
Tumblr media
The video we viewed is actually the second music video made for the song. The first was a simple video of the band members singing the song against a blue background. In this video, the live-action footage was traced with a frame-by-frame process called rotoscoping. It took 4 months to rotoscope the 3,000 frames in the video.
The video uses a romantic fantasy plotline. A young woman, who is played by Bunty Bailey, falls for the male lead of the video played by lead singer Morten Harket. The more time she spends with Harket, the more she wants to be with him. She becomes blinded by the enjoyment she has in the 2-D world that is obviously separate from reality.
Course In General Linguistic Ferdinand de Saussure
Through his lyrics, Harket uses de Saussure’s speech/la parole to verbally demonstrate why this girl should take a chance on him. The lyrics represent the language itself, the speech/la parole that de Saussure describes. The lyrics serve the purpose of Harket directly communicating to the girl as to why she should go out with him. Through the music video, Harket is using de Saussure’s language/la langue to visually show why the girl should take him on. According to de Saussure, langue is “the internal structure of the language, not the language itself.” The video serves as the internal structure and representation of the language itself. The lyrics themselves are the
The different realities in the video, both the 2-D world and the real world, represent two different signs. In the 2-D world, Harket is a sign for what the girl wants. In the real world, he is a sign for what she knows she can’t have. The opposite signs in each reality represent the tribulations of young love that Harket is struggling with, as proved by the lyrics of the song.
Mythologies Roland Barthes
In his essay, Mythologies, Roland Barthes defines “myth,” and how it affects how we as humans perceive and consume media. He says that myths help to convey messages and communicate. Every form of media that we consume has some sort of myth that conveys some sort of message or meaning of the media, whether it be a headline, a film, a novel, etc. In Take On Me’s music video, Harket references back to Barthes’ description of myths, in that he is displaying a false version of himself that seems more appealing in order to convince the girl to go out with him. The girl, of course, believes what she sees because she is infatuated and developing feelings for Harket. The myth in this video is Harket’s ability to bring the girl into this imaginary world, and the girl consumes and believes that myth because of her feelings for Harket, and her desire to be with him.

Harry Styles released Satellite in May 2022 as part of his third album Harry’s House. The highly anticipated album went on to win Album of the Year at The Grammys. The song seems to be about wanting someone that you cannot have. However, Harry Styles fans have also compared the song to what it feels like to be “the therapist friend,” and wanting to be there for someone important in your life.
The video follows a robot trying to find a satellite that he saw on the news while backstage at a Harry Styles concert.
Tumblr media
The video features footage of Harry and his band backstage and on stage before showing the robot, named Stomper, through California as it searches for the satellite. When it finally finds the robot after realizing it is in the sky, Stomper lays in a field next to Harry and slowly, his battery dies as they both look up at the sky.
The song seems to be about wanting someone that you cannot have. However, Harry Styles fans have also compared the song to what it feels like to be “the therapist friend,” and wanting to be there for someone important in your life. The video plays into the first idea by showing Stomper going in circles (like a satellite) while trying to find the satellite. Styles writes “Spinning out, waitin for ya to pull me in // I can see you’re lonely down there // Don’t you know that I am right here.” Styles clearly wrote these lyrics for someone to hear, likely someone he wanted to be close to but could not, whatever the reason may have been.
Course In General Linguistic Ferdinand de Saussure
The langue, or the unspoken language in this music video, is Stomper’s dedication to finding the satellite that he saw. Both Stomper’s dedication represent the speech/la parole, and the lyrics that Styles wrote are the speech because they are Styles’ direct translation of his feelings of wanting to be there for someone that he cannot have. Music videos are generally an additional form of media that provide a langue for the artists’ original speech. In both Satellite and Take On Me, the visual aspect allows the artist(s) to add on to the original speech/la parole that they had written by providing a representation of “the internal structure of a language, not the language itself,” as de Saussure described.
Mythologies Roland Barthes
In the video, Stomper ventures to find the satellite after seeing it on the TV backstage at one of Harry Styles’ concerts. There seems to be a hint of romantic interest behind Stomper and the satellite, which can be compared to Disney’s 2008 film, Wall-E.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The upbeat pace of the song, as well as the music video following Stomper on his search for his satellite, seem to serve as a “myth” that Stomper and his satellite will have a happy ending. Upon initial viewing, viewers might be awaiting Stomper finding his satellite because of the myths and signs providing false hope for a happy ending. Unfortunately, when Stomper realizes his satellite is in the sky and he cannot get to it, he sits in a field next to Harry Styles and looks up at the sky, before realizing that his battery is running low. He accepts it and looks back towards the sky, towards the satellite that he was dedicated to finding. He spends what he knows will be his last moments as close to his satellite as possible, knowing he will never be able to have what he so badly wanted.
Discussion Questions
The upbeat tune of Satellite gives the myth that the plot of the music video will have a happy ending. In what ways do song lyrics or beats provide false signs about the true meaning of the song (i.e. a sad song that sounds happy)?
Satellite and Take On Me have similar themes of wanting something you cannot have. Harry Styles’ hit song, As It Was, has been compared to Take On Me for having a similar sound. Besides theme and sound, how can songs be related to one another?
Take On Me and Satellite also have similar auras of being written to someone that the respective artists want to be close to. However, the aura of Take On Me may be overlooked as it is such a popular and catchy tune that listeners may sing along without digesting the lyrics. Similarly, it is unclear if Satellite was written for a friendship or relationship, or even a familial relationship. However, fans have interpreted the lyrics through many different lenses. In what ways can the auras of a song change?

Hey gina this is totallllly out of random (or not 👀 because of the stomper robot we see in satellite mv) but there was a fic where harry was some sort of a cleaning robot and he was doing his casual cleaning routine 🧹 and then he meets louis who is a tin(?) (I really remember nothing about it but it was such a cute fic 😭 i was so impressed about how the author even came up with this silly cute fic idea, they should definitely write a child’s novel, the imagination was insane!!)
Oh my god I LOVE that fic. It’s so quirky and so not the type of fic I usually like but it’s somehow so lovely and touching.
Magnets and Dust by gracelings_in_a_suit (GA, 3K)
Harry moved closer, ignoring the red flashing of his LED display and the ever-present announcement, foreign object, foreign object.
He wanted to read it. He wanted to understand it.
To his dismay, the only letters he could make out were, l o u i s, spaced far enough apart that Harry knew they weren’t supposed to form a word.

SATELLITE MV
Harry Styles • 3 May 2023
The rocket is launched and the voice in off talks about Curiosity: “after 10 lonely years”… what triggers the little robot to start their journey to the goal, looking for either Curiosity or to be closer to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stomper reached his goal after nonstopping for a long while. The end of the machine, of that rushy type of life period, finally finding joy and rest; the artist will shut down to let the person in.
I recon messages that have been always there: the wait, the patience, the world crazily spinning, the perseverance, a clear goal in mind. I find it quite interesting that the robot is a dust eater of all types...It tries to reach warmth/love/home (you name it) & finally, there in the dreamers/lovers/holders field after an exhausting journey he literally shuts down.
The break is here: tour end? 2025?

EACH NIGHT ON his never-ending Love on Tour, Harry Styles thanks the crew behind the scenes who arrive long before he steps on stage and leave long after both he and his fans have gone, leaving behind trails of discarded boa feathers. In the Aube Perrie-directed music video for his latest Harry’s House single, “Satellite,” the singer bows out of the spotlight to share a glimpse into the life of one of those hardworking crew members: a little robot named Stomper, named after the “Satellite Stomps” Styles famously breaks out when performing the song.
Backstage before one of the 15 residency shows Styles played at the Forum in Los Angeles, Stomper blinks away non-existent robot tears watching a Brian Cox-narrated broadcast of the Curiosity rover roaming around Mars all alone for over a decade. But before it can get too emotional, it’s showtime. Stomper watches as the Love on Tour band huddles together, then joins them on stage during a chilling sing-along where Styles’ own vocals blend with thousands in the audience: “Spinning out waiting for ya to pull me in/I can see you’re lonely down there, don’t you know that I am right here?”
Once the show is over, Stomper is on its own once again, muddling through feathers and replicating tricks with a skateboarder leaving the venue. Venturing out into the rainy night, the robot travels across a highway; makes friends with a rat; and journeys through canyons, deserts, and mountains, searching for that sense of connection it knows Curiosity doesn’t have way up on Mars.
By the time Stomper finds it, settling in alongside Styles as he’s lying in the grass and stargazing, its battery has been worn out. Right outside of NASA, Stomper shuts down. Soon, Styles will do the same.
In just over a week, the singer will resume Love on Tour, which has stretched over nearly two full years in support of Fine Line and Harry’s House. After the final show on July 22 — the grand finale of a tour that consisted of over 160 shows, countless show-stopping outfits, and more boa feathers than Stomper could ever clear out on its own — the singer will wash the praise of the night away for one last time before going away for a bit.
“It’s really unnatural to stand in front of that many people and have that experience,” Styles told Rolling Stone last year. “Washing it off, you’re just a naked person, in your most vulnerable, human form.”
He added: “After One Direction, I didn’t expect to ever experience anything new. I kind of felt like, ‘All right, I’ve seen how crazy it can get.’ And I think there was something about it where I was … not terrified, but I just needed a minute. Because I wasn’t sure what it was. Just that the energy felt insane.”
While he’s away, Harry’s House‘s reign will continue. The album’s lead single, “As It Was,” arrived in April 2022, followed by “Late Night Talking” in June, “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” in October,” and now “Satellite.” Still, he has potential hits still hidden away on the album in “Daydreaming” and “Daylight,” maybe even “Cinema.”
Stomper’s battery may have gone out, but that doesn’t have to mean it can’t recharge for another go-round with all of its friends.
