no offense but felix getting a tongue piercing just before he goes home to saltburn not only as an act of 'rebellion' for having to take his eyebrow stud out, but also because he has an oral fixation and it's something for him to fidget with, and the day felix goes to oliver's dorm to show him his new piercing is in the top three worst days of oliver's life because how is he supposed to be normal about this information?

Veering Off Course
(2,305 words)
Gregory and his family get a call that Vanessa, whos in a different state for college, has gotten hurt. Gregory calls Evan, and Evan is able to use the things he's learned about himself since meeting Gregory to help his friend with his emotions regarding the situation.
Its early in the morning on a Saturday when Evan gets the call. It woke him up, so all he does is blink groggily and swipe at the screen blindly while propped up on his elbow until his thumb hits 'answer' on his phone. "Hello?"
"Evan." It's Gregory, and the serious tone to just that single word clears up Evan's brain as fast as lightning. He scrambles to prop himself into sitting up and rubs at his eyes with one hand.
"Gregory?" Evan asks, looking at the little icon he set for Gregory's contact of a picture of Evan and him at an amusement park. "Is everything okay?"
It takes a second for Gregory to respond, and it causes the anxiety that had steadily began to bubble inside of him to surge. "Gregory?"
"Sorry." Gregory finally answers. "I-- Uh... can you..." His friend struggles for words, and Evan tries to be as patient as possible as it becomes clearer every second something is wrong. "Can you come over? Like right now?"
Evan flounders for words for a second, but manages to force his mouth to say, "Of course."
"Okay." Gregory replies, and a surge of worry shoots through his chest when Gregory sounds like he might cry. He takes a breath on the other end, then, "Please hurry."
After that, Evan only lingers enough to respond with a short confirmation and goodbye before hanging up the phone. It takes him record time to shoot out of bed, sling on some shoes, and get down the street a few houses to Gregory's own.
His mind had played multiple awful scenarios of what terrible thing could have happened the entire time, but his worry does not ebb when he makes it to the porch and knocks on the door to a teary eyed Gregory.
Evan's immediately herded inside. Freddy has his phone in his hand pressed up against his ear, and he's pacing around the room. Aunt Chica and Aunt Roxy sit in the living room. Bonnie is sat in a dragged-over dining chair by Freddy and frowning.
It's dead silent in the house; even the TV and seemingly endless energy flowing through and causing bustling noise is snuffed out to nothing. Evan watches as everyone sits completely seriously and quiet, hands held in their lap or thrumming against something.
Impatience, is what Evan first thinks of. They're waiting for something. News, maybe? Freddy is on the phone. It's so silent you could hear a pin drop. Or somebody else's phone vibrate.
Evan's dread and anxiety only get worse when Gregory shuts the door behind him and tugs on him a bit. Evan follows without struggle, thousands of words and questions on his tongue when Gregory leads him to one of the unoccupied seats in the living room; a loveseat.
He sits down with him, and Gregory's face is scrunched up in barely restrained worry. Evan watches his friend, who's been an anchor for himself for so long, tremble and hunch in on himself. "Gregory?"
Gregory's eyes dart to him, and Evan leans down, hunching forward with his elbows rested on his thighs like theyre their own personal bubble. Evan's own brows furrow, and he feels the familiar thickness in his throat just at watching his friend be upset.
Evan grabs at his hand, squeezing it tight and lacing their fingers together. "I'm really worried, Gregory... please tell me whats wrong." Evan pleads. "Please?"
Gregory nods unsurely after a moment, and Evan watches him swallow thickly before turning to him fully. "Dad got a call from the University of Oregon today."
Evan's brows raise, but he nods to keep going. The University of Oregon is the college Gregory's sister, Vanessa, had left home to go attend. Evan hasnt gotten the chance to meet her, yet. She's already been gone two years strong, with a seemingly bright future. Evan's heard Gregory and his family talk about her enough to know her talents.
Gregory's breath hitches, and Evan wraps his other hand around Gregory's, the one he already has ahold of. He sandwiches it in-between his own and hopes it's enough comfort.
"Somebody called us and told us Vanessa got into a car crash today. On campus."
It's like a bucket of ice water is poured on Evan's head. His feet go cold, and his eyes widen to saucers. Fear shoots like an arrow through his stomach. When he stops reeling from the news, he watches Gregory begin to shake and lose the carefully gathered composure he'd put up since Evan arrived.
"They said..." Gregory's brows are furrowed so much it looks like it hurts. Theres a clench in his jaw and a wetness to his eyes Evan isnt used to. "They said she's already been taken to the hospital and is in surgery." He frowns, and theres a twist in his lip that Evan is so familiar with. "They... a-all we can do is wait. They told us they'd let us know any updates."
The house is thrown back into such jarring silence after Gregory stops talking that Evan's ears start ringing. Which makes it clear as day when Gregory's breath turns harsh beside him.
Evan tears his eyes away from the floor and ignores the twisting feeling in his chest to look at his friend. He has his face buried in the hand that isnt held by Evan and is shaking in a way where you can tell theyre trying so hard to keep it together. Gregory's angled away from him, but Evan can see the panic on his face even from where he can see.
Evan's breath hitches, and the thickness in his throat begins to turn into burning as he scootches closer to Gregory on the couch and sets a hand on his shoulder. He tugs a bit until Gregory gets the message and let's him wrap his arms around his middle and hold him close.
Gregory makes some sort of horrible, upsetting hitching noise that causes the dam to break for Evan, before he sort of flops against him and brings up his own arms to clutch at his T-Shirt. Gregory's head thumps against his shoulder, and it's one of the only times Evan really becomes aware of the height he has on his friend.
"Its okay..." Evan says into Gregory's shoulder, because it's all he knows to do in the moment. He glances around and sees that Gregory's family has shifted to the dining room, leaving them alone. Evan finally feels the tears slip from his eyes as he presses closer, hugging him like his life depends on it. "Its okay, Gregory. It'll be okay."
"It's--" Gregory says, and Evan can hear how much his voice shakes with barely contained tears. "Its not. I can't-- We can't even go see her. We can't go and wait for her to wake up, or anything... we just have to--" He cuts himself off, and Evan feels Gregory shake harshly against him.
"We just have to sit here." Gregory says, voice thick. "I dont know what to do, Evan. I don't know what to do."
And its only that sentence that causes Evan to grapple at what to do, if his friend can't. And all he can think about is how himself would react if it were Gregory getting hurt.
All he'd be able to do is cry, he realizes. He wouldnt be able to do anything. Just wait and be scared.
But that's what Gregory is getting at, isnt he? He can't do anything. That's the thing. Evan has known Gregory long enough to get him. To know, him. Evan knows that Gregory doesnt sit around and cry like Evan does. He prefers to get up and do something about whatevers wrong.
Hes a problem solver instead of waiting around. A fighter instead of a crier. No wonder hes so bent out of shape about this. To have a loved one in danger, and when you're so used to getting up and making a plan to fix a problem and are forced to sit in standby...
Evan eases them down against the cushion of the couch, not once untangling themselves from eachother. Gregory shakes, but he does not cry. "So what would you do if you could?"
The hair from Gregory's bangs brushes against Gregory's neck as he moves his head. "I'd... I don't know. I'd at least try to get to her." Gregory says, voice unbelievably quiet. "At least get to her. Then figure it out from there. Just so I'm not waiting on phone calls."
Evan nods against him, his chin scrunching up Gregory's hair. His tears have long since stopped falling, but he knows he has dry tracks on his cheeks. "You have a plan."
Gregory makes some sort of noise that would sound like a snort in any other circumstances. "I would if I could." Gregory replies, squeezing his arms a bit tighter. "But I cant" He sighs, shuddering and heavy. "I just have to wait."
Evan hums. "You're worried, and you're stressed." He makes the same noise Gregory just did. "I know how you feel... I really do. Maybe not your exact situation, but... I get what it's like to feel helpless." He says. "You know what I would do?"
Gregory hums this time, questionative. Evan rubs circles into his back. "I'd sit there and wait, and wish for it to different. And when it wouldnt be, I'd cry."
Gregorys head shifts against that crook between Evan's chin and chest, almost like hes trying to look him in the eye but the hug prevents him from being able.
"All I ever did was cry." Evan says when Gregory doesnt respond. "Its the only thing that I could do to cope."
"...So..." Gregory asks, and his voice is thick again. "You mean..."
"You're stressed." Evan answers. "You're stressed and you're worried. So... why dont you let it out?"
Evan, out of anyone, knows how valuable emotions can be. He didnt, once upon a time. When everyone would just tell him how annoying it is. How useless it is. How he's asking for it. How he should have toughened up by now. When instead of comfort, he'd receive ridicule and prodding.
That's changed. Ever since a certain someone entered his life. He doesn't think of his emotions, himself so little anymore. So worthless. So maybe that's why Gregory perks up ever so slightly in understanding.
And that's all it takes.
Gregory's trembling turns into shoulder shaking sobs like the snap of a finger. He cries, open and unadulterated, and Evan just hugs him close and rubs his back, offering reassurances like Gregory has done for him so many times.
His own eyes burn when his best friends sobs are heard so openly and he can feel every shudder of his body. Evan's chin scrunches, and the tears fall right along with Gregory as Evan hugs him close, tucking his face into his hair.
"Im--" Gregory cries. "I-Im just so worried about her."
"I know." Evan responds, his own voice breaking as he pets Gregory's hair. His shirt is damp with tears but he doesnt care. "Itll be okay. It'll all be okay."
They stay like that for a while, and Evan can tell Gregory needs it. He needs it. The worry he felt that morning doesnt ever really leave, and it stays ever-present as Evan watches his friend fall apart. They stay stuck together like magnets, eventually only shoulder to shoulder with linked hands on the loveseat, and none of Gregory's family try to peel them apart when they eventually wander back into the living room.
They stay in a state of constant agonizing limbo all day. At 8:00pm, Freddy calls it a night. Gregory protests immediately, but Aunt Roxy calms him down almost seamlessly and convinces him to go to bed.
Of course, Evan follows him. He cant imagine a world where he doesnt. The air mattress stays deflated in Gregory's closet as it has been most of the time nowadays. All Evan has to do is kick his shoes off since he left home in his pajamas anyway and they're wrapped around eachother, tucked in Gregory's bed under his comforter in the dark.
Gregory is silent all throughout the night, even though Evan knows he's awake. Evan just hopes that... he did the right thing. Something knows is that suppressing how you feel isnt good. It never works. No matter how much you want it to.
Gregory taught him that. He just wants to return the favor. Not because he owes Gregory, no. Gregory has long since hammered it into Evan's thick skull that he has nothing to pay him back for. That his kindness is not a deed to Evan, but rather that Evan himself deserves to be treated kindly.
Gregory does, too. Evan knows this with all his heart. Gregory is his best friend and has done more for him than anyone else ever has.
Evan... all Evan did was change. Change for the better. And hopefully he helped the most important person in his life with the things he learned. The things that person taught him.
He hugs Gregory's middle a little tighter, not daring to break the silence. Gregory needs time, but doesn't want to be alone. Evan understands. He does. He just hopes to convey what he truly feels through the one action.
Thank you. I'm here for you. I'll always be here. You're my best friend. I'm so glad you trust me. I trust you as well. So much.
Gregory himself wraps his arms tighter around Evan in turn, and Evan feels like the single movement lso has a deeper meaning he cant read.
They dont speak. They just lay in silence until eventually they fall asleep, stuck together like two puzzle pieces.

What the Solstice ending brings to the themes of OneShot
(A.K.A: Why I think Solstice is kinda cool but instead of giving a normal answer I just type like 2k words)
While I think that a reasonable amount of people value the additional content you can uncover by playing again, I'm also aware that other people have their reservation or even dislike it. Despite that, I think there is a lot of value on what it brings to the story, how it gives a new view to some elements from the base game, and the way it is a response to your "abilities" as a player, and your motivation to do those things in a way that speaks to the way people approach stories. With that in mind, I wanna present to you why I think Solstice adds to the overall story, and how in fact "changing" the base themes is coherent for this story, too.
Needless to say, I WILL discuss OneShot spoilers in depth, so give the game a try on your own to get the most out of the experience, but otherwise, keep reading! Now let's get into the real thing.
When you think about what OneShot’s main theme is, the most likely answer is that there is only one opportunity in life. This means that your actions have consequences, and that some actions cannot be undone. From the beginning, the game sets a stage where you, as a player, are responsible for keeping Niko, this child given the role of savior, safe. Going into the game without prior knowledge means that you’re likely to be cautious about your actions, the choices you make, even if small, and your efforts are focused on being successful with the one chance you get.
You soon find out that the world Niko is in is slowly, but relentlessly, decaying, which has made many of the people in this world give up their hope of salvation, and are hanging on by a thread that is getting thinner as time goes by. The quest begins to shift from “doing what you have to do and creating optimal conditions” to “trying to do your best, knowing that some things are out of your control”. Because it turns out that Niko and you are late. The environment has been affected in irreversible ways, some areas are abandoned and others are unreachable by normal means (even Niko themself cannot backtrack), and even if one could place the Sun at the top, the other problems will not be solved, even if the presence of the Sun is helpful. It’s even possible that you have lost your chances to complete certain missions, such as getting the necessary supplies to replant the sacred kernel.
These are all factors that impact the way this chance you’re given plays out. And, in the end, the manifestation of these externally imposed limitations becomes clear, as Niko and you reach the tower, and are presented with the final choice. Whatever you choose ends up being a failure, either for Niko’s quest in this world, or your quest of making sure Niko leaves safely. Your one shot means that you will only get one of these outcomes. and will have to give up the other. It is the biggest exhibit of consequences, and many people can attest to their own difficulties making this choice.
Tumblr media
OneShot in the end, becomes a lesson on sacrifices, moral choices, and the limitations of what a person has the chance to do, knowing the consequences of their actions. It’s a heavy theme, and one the story builds up along the journey with the different characters Niko and you meet. Some of them believe letting a natural death occur is the most merciful option, others believe the Sun will make the world a better place, and some believe it is worth returning the sun, even if it’s not a permanent fix. There is no certain truth, no solution that doesn’t come with its drawbacks, and no margin for error.
And then Solstice arrives… shaking the initial themes.
Well, it doesn’t come out of nowhere. That would not be true. OneShot is most often known and praised for its 4th wall breaking features, and the puzzles that go outside of the game window itself. The player of the game is an active part, known as the god of the world they take Niko through. This is a story device that connects you to Niko and to the world itself, and places the responsibility to care for both of them on your shoulders. It makes the experience more immersive and seeks to convince you, for a moment, that you’re not just an invisible hand controlling things, but someone that actually interacts with a world that responds to you.
In a way, one could look at the reset mechanic from a purely practical lens: if you pay for a game, you deserve a chance to replay it, since it is your property. It won’t hurt to relive the same experience again because you will know you’re just looking at what was already coded into the story, and you would just be looking at it again out of personal interest. You could take the original message at heart and never pick up the game again, leaving questions unanswered and some decisions never made, but… if you do want to relive the story again, or maybe see if you can try the other ending, the option needs to exist.
Tumblr media
And you have not stopped being an active part of how the game works, even after the ending. So, when you look for a way to reset it, what you find is a letter instead, written by someone who seems to be the very creator of the game. And he begs you to consider the option, if it is within your possibilities, like a brand new puzzle for you to solve and… maybe this world the creator crafted for you. It makes sense that the game places an in-universe message like this, it keeps the immersive theme.
But… one could argue that allowing resets breaks the feeling that some experiences can only be done once. Niko realizes they know a few things that they don’t remember learning. The Entity can tell that activating NG+ is not something that was supposed to happen according to its own protocol, and the restriction it imposed. Which means that this experience is never the same. But it also means that the game is responding to your actions, in a way that indicates that the original suspension of disbelief that you’re a god making choices for a living world can still be made. It also means that the game acknowledges its nature as a program that you’re in control of, and Solstice definitely makes this aspect more blatant, if you choose to take that path.
When OneShot presents itself, it seems that everything within it is equally real, and that you’re roleplaying as some kind of actual deity… but something looms in the shadows. The way decay is presented as squares, the way the paths seem lined up perfectly for a story, the way there seems to be a protocol to follow, that only the Entity acknowledges, shows that this game may be aware of how You are actually viewing it, from a screen in your computer. The game isn’t a real world, it’s just a program you can turn on and off at will.
And this makes even more sense once we have the added context that the Solstice route provides, since it outright confirms this suspicion. Prototype makes Niko aware of the way we have been looking at their world since the beginning, destabilizing the perception they had of their current mission, and the role you play in it, while also making you aware as a player that Niko is not part of this simulation at all. Later on, Cedric explains that the place Niko is trapped in was made to be a facsimile of their dying world, in hopes that there could be proof of their existence after the destruction of said world, and that he and his siblings are the only ones aware of the previous world existing. This part is important, because it gives us an in-universe reason for this world to exist… that brings new concepts into the main theme of the game, “one chance”.
Why would… why would you create a world like… this? [...] Why would you make a world that's doomed from the beginning? …why do you keep bringing me back to it? Niko, talking to the player during the Solstice run
Niko presents an interesting question, not just about their current situation, but also the intent that is implied in the kind of story that OneShot is. It is one thing to be presented with a scenario where people try their best to respond to their circumstances, and be presented with choices that require sacrifice. It is a different one to think that someone willed this to happen, and that Niko has been put in this scenario… that is within your control. Because you’re the one that started the program, and you’re the one that brought them back. And then the events of Solstice create an even more dangerous situation, as the protocol is broken and, most importantly, as the Entity representing the game itself reacts to Niko’s distress.
Here is where the context of the old/real world becomes crucial, because it shows how a scenario like this could be created, not by the will of a detached writer, but different parties with their own motivations and struggles. Because it turns out that the second chance that the people from the old world were looking for didn’t go as planned, of course, we know this. The original choice in the end of OneShot wasn’t intended by the in-universe creators, and yet in a way it still resonates with the way people were divided after the old Sun died. This world, made with the memories of people who lived in a world that would certainly end within their time, is also manifesting that same thing.
What is the point of making a story like OneShot, where this world can be saved, if not to give it a second chance? And what are you as a player doing, by going out of your way to do everything again? As I said, it has the plus side that the game responds to your actions outside of it, but now it adds another layer of it: your motivations to be proactive, may have something in common with the motivation that led to the creation of the game in the first place, at least from the perspective of the characters that are affected by this.
As we can see Solstice recontextualizes the story and provides an explanation for how the game itself comes to be aware of how we see it. But the point of Solstice is that it is alive, in a way. It was created with an intent to share a story, as a means for people to be remembered beyond their time. It’s meant to cause an impression on the person receiving this story. And, as we have established before, the way it is set up treats the player as an active participant in the story, someone who has an influence that is distinct from that of everyone else. The story impacts us, and in a similar way we impact it with our attachment to it, with our actions to do more than what it limited itself to present you with.
Something else funny and interesting happens too… you may realize that the base game doesn’t offer that much in the realm of consequential choices, besides the ending. Your biggest impact is how you treat Niko, and the connection you make with them. They’ll ask about your life beyond the game, look for comfort, and react to both your good and bad ideas. It doesn’t change how much you save the world, but it shapes who you are to Niko, and changes their experience too. You treat them like a good friend, listen to them… you tame them.
Tumblr media
Which is the other big theme of OneShot. Taming, in the original Little Prince, is a concept to explain the way people get attached to someone else, and how the bond formed with someone else changes people fundamentally, and makes the tamed individual distinct from everyone else. In OneShot, it refers to the way in which robots gain sentience after forming bonds with people, after being treated as people with their own thoughts and will, allowing them to act beyond their programming. And in the context of a story, it is equivalent to the way the audience takes the story as real, and sees the characters within as people whose actions are motivated by personal motivations and goals, rather than commanded by the writer, even when we know that their nature is fictional.
We develop this sort of relationship with Niko, and through their experiences, we also begin to develop this relationship with the other residents of this world, who begin to make new decisions that make sense for them as characters, in a context that wasn’t predicted by the story itself.
And we, in turn, are the ones constantly interacting with this Entity, the game itself. We get to see the puzzles in which it tries to make it clear that it can do a lot outside of the window itself. We can see the way it attempts to keep us from making decisions that go against parts of its programming, despite the contradictions these actions create. OneShot is a story that didn’t want to put Niko through all of this, that didn’t want to repeat the suffering that brought it into existence, but who doomed itself when it tried to manifest its sentience. The World Machine tries to break the immersion, tries to show you its flaws, and we instead recognize personhood within.
Without Solstice, this sort of relationship never becomes clear, and it never gets the chance to evolve. Hell, one could even say that challenging the initial theme of “one chance”, by proposing that we can do something better this time IS the perfect way to establish a conversation that leads to change, that sets the story apart from others. And in the end, once the run is completed, the efforts done by you as a player, Niko, and everyone else pays off, giving you a more satisfying ending. The message that this sends is that, while some situations are out of our control and we must be careful with the consequences of our actions, we will never achieve change if we don’t act outside of the margins, and that, when we do this, we can provide a second chance.
Final words:
In conclusion… while I can understand that Solstice doesn’t hit everyone the same way, and that it has its limitations in execution (especially if spoiled), it’s a solid continuation. It takes some of the themes present in the initial game, and then proceeds to converse with them, using its resources as a game to create an immersive experience, and reward the player for being proactive. I believe that’s worth valuing, and serves to reflect on the way people interact with stories in personal ways, making them gain a place in their hearts.

Guys guys guess what!!! I'm still struggling with health issues and writing takes a lot of effort I just don't have the energy for. But some friends decided it could be fun to do a little fanfic/fanart collab. And it's just a silly casual thing so its okay that it will take me a really long time. So im gonna be working on an enby Dazai fic that will get fanart with it!!!! I'm really excited. I hope it turns out good. This will be the first project I'm working on since I went of hiatus and im worried it will escalate my issues again but im going to try anyways. Wish me luck!!!!

#this arc just straight up doesn't happen in my au lmao oh I was about to ask if that arc of the battle of fairy tail would happen. Since in your AU Laxus actually got proper guidance and his father was out of question early enough. Now I'm more curious about how it's going to be
Haha yep! Laxus isn't having unchecked dragon hormonal rage on top of daddy issues on top of power fantasies born of listlessness and expectations soooooo no Battle of Fairy Tail arc lol. He and the Thunder Legion befriended each other earlier on too so they got a more normal experience and not the toxic tryhard one. Yay! Positive butterfly effects!
In htryds it's just gonna be a oneshot (as of now at least) of a normal Fantasia celebration. Now, just because Laxus isn't a problem child doesn't mean he wants to participate in the social activities. Good thing he's not the only anti-social mfer in Fairy Tail, though, as few as there are. And therein lies the synopsis of what I plan to be a very comedic take on the parade ;)

The more I think about Mario being transmasc, the more I’m getting some dumb small ideas.
Like imagine him saying he needs a new name but needs something he’ll be sure to remember, only for Luigi to jokingly say he should call himself “Mario” that way he wouldn’t forget (since it’s their last name), and Mario immediately goes “Luigi you’re a genius !”, taking the suggestion 100% seriously.
Or Mario being hesitant to bring it up with Pauline because that’s his lesbian gf and he likes being with her but Luigi reminds him that he can’t spend the rest of his life lying to himself just for this relationship, plus there could be other small issues that made Mario and Pauline consider that maybe they’re better off as friends. In the end, Pauline is very accepting and the two remain close friends; also Pauline would probably support Mario throughout his transition, while Mario would start playing wingman for her if anybody new catches her eye.
Also, before Mario came out, Pauline going around with what she thinks to be her cool small chubby butch gf. <3
And going back to Mario figuring himself out, him starting to cut his hair and halfway through grabbing a razor he decides to ask for Luigi’s help before he does something stupid with his hair. Luigi puts that razor down and cuts + helps styling Mario’s hair like his. On that note, Luigi teaching Mario how to groom his eventual mustache.
Sometime after going into the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario realizing he needs HRT and awkwardly tries to bring it up to Peach. Cue Mario discovering how gender works with Toads (and being low-key relieved how easy getting HRT will be as a result).
Also when Mario brings it up to Peach she’s like “oh so humans are like Koopas !” (note that I see Peach as a Toad whose appearance is due to her gem + Toads have no concept of male or female, hence humans being closer to Koopas in that regard).
Cue a similar talk later on about the differences when it comes to reproduction with Mario being very awkward talking about it and using the first opportunity when Peach brings up Koopas to say “yes, exactly like Koopas !” happy he doesn’t have to explain further.
Also also the first time they meet Daisy and the topic of dating comes up Mario says he has an ex who he broke up with because she only likes girls, awkwardly hinting that he’s trans. Cue Daisy gushing about how she went through the same path of discovering who you are in early adulthood rather than teenagerhood (Prince Haru's design is Daisy before transitioning, I mean come on).
Not sure what his deadname would be but for this one I really want to go with “completely different and unrelated name”. And yeah I guess it could fit for him to have an “M” already and change its significance, but at the same time I could definitely see him have a different letter and when he comes out one of his parents make a new hat with an “M” on it, something along those lines.

ooh what’s the breakdown fic abt?? Love the name tbh
thank you i think it’s a very lovely name (real title is grow as we go but i hadn’t chosen it until recently). so here’s how to started:
Tumblr media
(zar enabling me in real time, we love that for me)
so i got to thinking about sirius black’s hair, as one does, and the fanon idea that his mother cut it short the night he left home
i’ve always hated how quickly sirius seems to bounce back after running away. just because he got out of a bad environment doesn’t mean he’s going to be perfectly okay right off the bat—there’s a lot of growth to be done, which is what the fic explores
Tumblr media
^^^this is my author’s note at the beginning if it helps

lowkey worried because I haven't written much of the fic I'm supposed to post on oct 30...
I have time, but not a lot. I have to get a draft finished this weekend because next weekend I'm going out with friends and won't have time to write. and I haven't been great at writing on weekdays... I'm just too tired by the time I'm free to do so. I hope I can concentrate this weekend.
I really need to stop saying yes to these ship events lol. they're fun! I like doing prompts! and deadlines force me to write more, and this has done wonders for me just because I have something pushing me to exercise those writing muscles and overcome the inertia of not-writing. but also. deadlines. and also, this is kinda taking time away from writing fics I want to write for myself that I don't want to post specifically for fandom events.
next time they ask me to participate, I have to seriously think about declining. or maybe just not thinking of writing something too long (which is a me-issue, not their fault).

Hi! If you’re accepting requests could you write something about ash comforting eiji? I’m a huge sucker for that and you’re a great author :) congrats on publishing your book btw!
This doesn't match the prompt super well? Maybe check out this recent fic of mine if you haven't yet, since that works a bit better for this request. But here's another one!
Sometimes Ash wishes he'd lived a ... different life.
A more normal life. A happier life, maybe. The kind of life where he learned to smile before he learned to cry, or where he learned to sleep before learning to dream of nightmares he'd already faced during the day.
He's wished that way for a long time—with no point to it, of course—but he's really wishing on that same star right now.
Because maybe if he had lived the type of life where someone else had comforted him, he would know what to do right now. He'd know how to comfort Eiji.
He loves Eiji ... he loves Eiji.
And Eiji loves him, for some reason, and he doesn't fucking know what to do about it. How do you love someone who loves you, instead of loving your body?
Anyway.
Eiji's crying, and Ash hasn't even asked why. He is absolute shit at this. He wants to be the type of person Eiji deserves, and he's sure as fuck going to keep working at it until he is that person.
The person Eiji seems to already think he is.
"W-what's wrong?" Ash asks, trying to sound gentle. He's not used to this whole—everything.
If love isn't supposed to hurt, then why is Ash still so afraid of it?
"Just thinking about the past, I guess," Eiji says, sniffling.
Ash hums. "A dangerous pastime," he tries to joke. It falls more than a little flat, and Ash winces. "What brought these thoughts on?" he tries again.
"It's stupid," Eiji mumbles, shaking his head. "It's stupid."
"Can't be that stupid, if you're crying over it." God, Ash is so shitty at this. He's just invalidating Eiji now, isn't he? Contradicting him. Is that validating or invalidating? Fucking hell. What would Ash's therapist do? What would Eiji do?
... They'd both start by being a better person, but Ash has got to make do with what he's got.
Eiji whines a little. "You got a letter in the mail," he starts, "and—it—it's stupid, but—the outside of the envelope said Dear Ash, and it was just some stupid spam or something, but I c-couldn't stop thinking about—"
"... About me?" Ash says, eyes widening. Eiji is crying over him?
Ash isn't worth crying over ...
But of course it was his fault, and—
No! Fucking—no.
We're not playing this game right now, Ash tells himself. You can go tell yourself what a shitty person you are when Eiji's tears aren't on the line. For now ... for now, all that matters is Eiji.
"I'm sorry," Ash starts.
"Why?" Eiji says, frowning. Still crying.
"You've been crying over me."
Eiji shakes his head, hiccupping a little. "It's not your fault, Ash."
It is, though. Not in a self deprecating way, but like—Eiji is literally crying over him. Ash made Eiji cry.
Fuck, why is this so hard? Is Ash so selfish that he's prioritizing his own self-hatred over Eiji's emotional state? God fucking damn it!
"I just—I still worry about losing you," Eiji mumbles.
Ash blinks. "You ... what?"
"I'm afraid to lose you," Eiji whispers. "I'm so afraid of waking up one day and realizing that this story doesn't end with us together."
And Ash is suddenly fighting back tears of his own. Fuck. Fuck.
"I ..." Ash starts, trailing off. How the fuck do you respond to that?
"I'm so afraid you'll die before me," Eiji whispers, a tinge of horror in his voice. "Is that stupid? We're not in any danger any more, but I'm still so worried you'll die first."
Ash's breath in his lungs is the same temperature as the snowflake filled air outside the New York Public Library on December 20th of last year.
Ash is terrified of Eiji dying before him.
Ash has survived a lot, but that would be the end of him. Maybe the next day would arrive, somehow, without Eiji, but Ash?
Ash wouldn't make it.
... He can't tell Eiji that.
He swallows down a few different thoughts that arise. Tries for a smile.
"I think the solution here is that we both need to live forever," he breathes, just the softest hint of laughter in his voice.
There are other solutions, of course—like Eiji just giving up on Ash—but this is the only one that won't make Eiji cry harder right now.
Eiji's still crying, but he smiles, just a little. Just softly.
It's more than Ash ever thought he would be able to accomplish without touching someone.
"Oh, is that the way we'll have to do it?" Eiji whispers, leaning in toward Ash. That smile. Ash would kill for that smile. Ash would die for that smile.
Ash could, maybe—maybe live for that smile.
"I think so," Ash says. "So let's get looking for the secret to eternal life, yeah? And we'll share it."
"I feel like we've had enough of a time with experimental drugs to last a lifetime. To last an eternal lifetime," Eiji teases.
He's starting to feel better, Ash realizes. He doesn't joke like this when he's really sad.
And then, softly, Ash notices: Eiji never used to admit when he was sad at all. He used to keep everything inside, like he was afraid to admit to even the slightest weakness, or—the slightest burden on anyone else.
And Ash knows that Eiji has always struggled with feeling like a drain on others, but it's never really occurred to him before how similarly Ash feels, and ... how far both of them have come.
They both let each other see when they cry, now. They both used to hide away to cry.
Ash ducks his head, smiling, then leans in toward Eiji. He gently bumps their noses together. "I don't think the secret to eternal life is in a drug," he whispers. Tries to make it sound like a joke.
"Yeah?" Eiji says, smiling. "What do you propose, then?"
... Kindness, Ash thinks, staring into Eiji's eyes. When people are as kind as you are, Eiji, they're never forgotten. You change every life you touch, and you'll live on in the lives of others forever. Forever.
Ash can only hope to have half of that effect.
He squishes his nose against Eiji's more. "I'm not sure," he whispers. "But I think the secret to—everything, honestly—I think it has something to do with you. And how I feel about you."
I've loved you since I first saw you fly, Eiji. And if you can learn to look back at me with these eyes I see now—if you can look at me like that, then maybe there's redemption in this world, and maybe we can all live forever. Just a little.
"I think it has something to do with how I feel about you, too," Eiji says.
He's not crying anymore.
Send me a prompt!

Hey bestie,
No pressure intended at all, but I just wanted to ask if you still plan on finishing The Long Con? I understand it can take a really long time to find inspiration or time to write, and I am happy to be patient! I just wanted to make sure it hasn't been abandoned. 🙂
Yes, I will finish the long con! I am writing all the chapters in advance so that when I start uploading again there are won’t be another big hiatus between uploads. I expect to update the fic again while jjk season 2 is airing — so any time during the second half of this year. Probably later rather than sooner, unless I am lucky and speedy.
(Also, as a very hush hush secret second thing, I’m planning one round of preorders where people will be able to purchase physical copies of the long con as a bound book 👀 I want to be able to hold my first novel-length story in my hands and put it on my bookshelf! The whole fic has to be finished/typeset/formatted in advance for that project to go ahead through, which is another reason why I’m completing all of tlc in advance.)
For some broader perspective on my writing goals this year — I’m aiming to finish slaughterhouse and the long con, then begin the first part of a historical/political intrigue fushiita au which will be my next Big Project after tlc is done. Those three stories have anywhere between 30-50k words left to write in them individually (100k or more combined). I’m a busy bee behind the scenes, I practically never leave my writing desk lol. But I’m working and studying too, so finding the time to write is the biggest challenge rn.
But yes. The long con is not abandoned and I am really keen to finish it this year! I know it’s been a long time since I last updated. Writing is a very solitary and often isolating pursuit; I compose everything alone without feedback or encouragement until it’s done, and the finished product doesn’t give an indication of the many challenges involved in refining prose to that level of polish. It really means a lot to me that everyone has been so patient while I figure out the balance between my irl responsibilities and my writing process. I’m glad people are still interested in seeing the conclusion of the long con, and I’m doing my best to get it ready!
