Perfect idea for a Smash Bros machinima:
Dr. Mario's free therapy sessions!
Some episodes would be more heartfelt, some comedic, and some are people trying to steal the docs files on the fighters to learn emotional weaknesses

Okay, so this is a bit of a long-shot, especially posting this at almost midnight, but I'm desperate.
Does anyone happen to remember this one Brawl Machinima type video where Luigi tries to save Mario from some threat but he's too late and the last shot is him crouching on the Luigi's Mansion stage completely destroyed and with a Boo in the background? On further reflection, I'm like 80% sure it also had Nickelback's "Hero" as the background music. I've always wondered why it sounded so familiar, and I think that could be where I first heard it.
If anyone can point me in the direction of an archive of that video or at least let me know they remember it too, it would really help my hyperfixated ass brain

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Endgame
I don’t think I really talked about my machinimas here. A very long time ago, I got into machinimas with Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. If you have no idea what a machinima is, it’s creating a film using a video game engine. For example, Red vs. Blue by Rooster Teeth was one of - if not THE - most popular machinimas back in the day.  Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was one of those great PC games that people made a ton of mods for. They created maps modeling The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, the Star Wars prequels, and even the 20th Century Fox logo. There was no limit to people’s imaginations. I became enamored with it and dreamed of making some kind of original show using the game.
Fast-forward to late 2018 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released. Unlike previous installments, Nintendo incorporated a bigger and better way to record replays. You could effectively create a movie now if you wanted to. They even put a small video editor within the game itself.
I already knew I wanted to do something with the game. I just didn’t know what. I played around with vague ideas, and then Avengers: Endgame released in 2019. Many gamers in the Smash community drew parallels and made memes comparing Smash Ultimate to Endgame, given that the former also includes a plotline where most of the roster has been “snapped” out of existence.  With those two hot topics trending, I decided to make a parody of Avengers: Endgame by reenacting the final scenes with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
youtube
And boy, did it explode.
For years, since 2008, my YouTube channel lingered on barely less than 500 subs. I still took pride in everything I made for it.  The video sky-rocketed to over half a million views throughout 2020, and drew in over 2k subs.  Nintendo then released new characters as DLC. I knew that when the final character was released, I HAD to expand on the original film to make it bigger and better - a “Final Cut”. It was go big or go home.
I’m filming as we speak, and I’m aiming to upload it as a Christmas gift right on December 25th.  And here’s an awesome poster that I commissioned for the hype.

(Artist: RezDragon)  Anyway.  That’s my short history on my love of machinimas.

What I hope most of Super Smash Bros Ultimate is...
...the resurgence of Super Smash Bros machinima.
So much about Ultimate as it is known makes it seem like one of the most machinima-friendly games around without any hacking.
There are over 70 playable characters out of the box, including many fan-favorites that others have hacked to get into previous games for their projects, like Daisy and Ridley, along with all characters from previous Smash games.
Even if the character you want isn’t a fighter, the Spirit concept means you can adopt that to your story’s background to allow literally any character you want to appear (even if it’s not possible to match them exactly to how the Spirits are set up).
Over a hundred stages, plus two alternate versions of each stage that allow you to have the setting and atmosphere without worrying about any troublesome gimmicks, and the ability to turn off stage hazards, come together to allow the maximum number of possible backdrops with very little hassle during filming.
Replays will presumably continue to have Wii U and 3DS’s ten-minute max length, and the camera can be controlled during them.
Replays can be converted to video by the game itself - no need for a capture card - with displayed “info” like accumulated damage (and hopefully the HUD entirely) and music disabled.
There’s still a few uncertain things, like whether converted videos take the form of a file you can extract from the Switch in some fashion (such as taking out an SD card), or whether or not you can direct the camera for said conversion, or whether or not some copyright notice will be branded into all converted video. Replays only got literally ten seconds of attention in November’s Direct, after all. It may be like how I read about the ability to upload Wii U and 3DS matches to YouTube via Miiverse, which does allow camera direction and doesn’t seem to put a copyright message on it from what I can find, so hopefully that’ll continue to carry over with all the new features.
With pretty much my best chances of Klonoa getting in is as a Spirit at this point, that Ultimate will provide the best possible canvas for machinima creators (even without anything like a new stage creator) is one of the things I am most most looking forward to.

So earlier i put in the tags of a reblog about how i basically grew up on super smash bros machinima series. Which, firstly, why brand as machinima? Most of the ones I watched didn't seem to have a tie to that channel. Well, it could be that 'machinima' was used interchangeably with 'video game parody', but I digress.
Anyway, there was fwo series I remember above all else. Smash King, and SmasherZ. Both of which sound really bad out of context. Okay okay, but like??? They were pretty okay? Obviously were drenched in old internet cheese and laughable mic quality, but still good to me.
But like, to my memory they both hold up as gold bars in my personal interest trash pile. Smash King by Tigura21 took very interesting approaches to its characters, playing off the established Nintendo faces, but in a different light. Given that even in-universe, they're all trophies of the characters, not the real deals. V interesting concept. Not to mention it??? Does a tournament story pretty well??? A good handful of ssbb machinamas had tournament centric stories. This is still a fighting game. But, the tournament became set dressing for the bigger fantasy politics that starts to entagle the gang after a while.
Only downsides I can remember are Meta Knight and Pit, given that their trophies' personalities are tacky, and would probably be called poor taste if they were made like that today. But what can you do with old internet media, huh?
And then there's SmasherZ by TheRollinNolan, a piece of utterly cursed nonsense I still think about and giggle. If Smash King took the serious approach to defining the characters separate from their faces, SmasherZ throws a metal chair at it. If I'm recalling correctly, Sonic the Hedgehog gets thrown from the game world into the rel world because he's framed for a crime by the bad guys who are trying to revive this all powerful Bowser recolor so he can translate fench. And it escalates! Fuck! This show is so fucking silly i cant- And even with that there's some pretty cool moments for everyone. Again, there's a bit of older humor, namely relating to a mr saturn that announces when gay people are born i cant even- but its still so fucking ridiculous to me. Its kinda short so like it won't eat up half your time watching.
And then you can yearn for endings that will never come with me. Because both of these are unfinished, and i need closure dammit!
Anyway this is why I'm uncultured

Machinima was one of my favorite channels on YouTube before their demise in January 2019 and all of their videos are gone forever. Not just that, it was one of those channels that helped me grow to create my content from their parodies, gaming videos and more. My fondest memory of is the Super Smash Bros Smashtasm,Super Mario 64 and others that I loved. Without Machinima and other channels from the 2000s, I wouldn’t even be here.
