What is unique about your chemistry that you don't experience in your individual groups?   Taemin: I’ve always been one of the youngest until I joined SuperM, where I found myself as one of the senior (older and more experienced) members of the group. Taking on this role allowed me to discover myself more. They bring out a different side of me that I wasn’t really aware of before. And though we are all very different, we’ve become very close. Everyone has a great sense of humor so when we’re together, there is always this bright, happy energy. I’m always having a great time when I’m with the guys. Why does this moment in the world feel the right time to drop an album as a super group? Taemin: Although it’s difficult to go outside and do “normal” things due to the pandemic, what’s great about music is that you can also enjoy it wherever you are. Music is a part of everyone’s daily lives—kind of like their own unique background music—and can have a big big impact on their moods, the environment and how they start and go about their days. With this in mind, we hope listeners can find healing and strength to help overcome these times through our music. How would you describe SuperM’s energy and charm? How is it special? Taemin: I think SuperM’s biggest strength is our performance. The members are outstanding artists with their own exceptional talent including vocal, rap and dancing and we also each have strong characters and personalities that helps create that super synergy on stage. Taemin (태민) I know you’ve recently been working more on your solo career, what’s it’s like to work within a group again? I feel more at ease when I’m with the guys because I have them to rely on. With busy schedules, there are times when I feel tired and uninspired but to have other members cheer you on and work towards the same goals is a blessing. I’m very grateful and happy to have them by my side.   You debuted at age 14. What has it been like to be involved in pop/fame at such a young age and what have you learned from this experience? What would you change if you could revise history? From debuting at such a young age, I definitely learned a lot. Compared to others around my age in their late 20s and early 30s who are just starting off their careers, I’d say I’m more knowledgeable about “the real world” because I started so early. If I could turn back the clock and give advice to my younger self, I would say don’t put too much pressure on yourself–take the time to enjoy the moment. When I think back, I was always in a rush to move forward but now I realize that as long as you have a goal and stay determined, it’s fine to just take it one step at a time. What is your process like when you write a song? I first listen to the demo and if I really like it, I keep it as it is but most of the time, I to change it up a bit. After discussing my vision with the producer or songwriter, I make the changes, edits and add a topline. I like doing this bit by bit, not all at once, because as I work on the song I’m also thinking about and envisioning the performance. When there is a change to the performance, there is also a change to the song to match the performance and vice versa. When the song is completed to some extent, I record the song, work on the choreography and finalize the performance details.

SuperM is a South Korean supergroup formed in 2019 by SM Entertainment and Capitol Music Group. The group consists of seven members from four SM Entertainment boy groups: Taemin from Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai from Exo, Taeyong and Mark from NCT 127 and Ten and Lucas from WayV. On October 4, 2019, the group debuted with their self-titled EP, which entered the Billboard 200 at number one, making SuperM the first Asian artist in history to top the US album chart with a debut release.

1. Seeing how Do talked about the ring first, I think he wanted to let DoTae rs take permanent spotlight in the fandom, effectively sweeping JaeDo (and possibly other half-alive ships like DoWoo and DoYu and JaeYong too hahah) under the rug. I'm pretty sure he knew the implication of airing the news of getting couple (expensive) rings (normally considered as grand gesture to most people) to the fandom. Fans/shippers will never forget and the moment will forever be talked about.

2. I know Tae was the first one who talked about getting couple rings in a vlog before this but I'm curious if it is further manipulated by the company to cover up JaeDo or if something happened (maybe rumours arising once again in relation to JaeDo) to cause Do to reveal this kind of thing. He usually not the one who flaunts his friendship with Tae. And even more curious if Jae had a say in this and what's his reaction even if he didn't.

Isn't all these couple rings matter with Taeyong a better camouflage for Jaedo? I mean everyone eyes and their mother's are on Dotae by now and people shoved down the probability of Jaedo is real. All is well. Except Jaehyun probably gonna cash in that car for real lol.

more on the dotae rings: i saw someone point out that the specific ring that ty showed is a very popular ring that many idols have worn in photoshoots etc this year. even ty wore it in a superm magazine cover or something. so theres also a high likelihood that the rings were gifts to them from cartier? like, i believe dotae would get friendship rings together & dy is extra enough to buy expensive ones, but if they were gifts it makes me like.. why, just with how kind of weird the call was

Hm, I doubt Doyoung would use a company’s gift and pretend he bought it for his best friend, he won’t undervalue his love for Taeyong in this way. Plus, the company would like their product actually to be worn and shown to the consumer.

I think, Tae talked about the ring, how he likes the design, or Do followed a shop assistant’s advice. Koreans like trendy things. Doyoung didn’t even know that his iconic bag is from Valentino, he just saw and liked it. He is bad with clothes brands too, usually shops at Polo. 

Doyoung brought up the topic of the rings twice deliberetely. He does advertise his friendship with Taeyong. 

1) He shows the fans how loved is Taeyong by his members and himself in particular. There were demands to expel Taeyong from the group this spring. Doyoung is passive-agressive like that. He likes to tell the fans off.

2) He chooses TaeDo as his preferred ship, the one Jaehyun won’t have problems with. Doyoung has shipped himself with Tae since forever (the famous tandem bike scenario, “in the end it’s me”). Do practically ended DoWoo. He actively participates in JohnDo, but only on the shows. Notice, that he wears Yuta’s slippers and Taeyong’s custom sneakers often, but Johnny’s sneakers he wore only a few times (when he was on a schedule with the said guy). He also gifts Johnny very simple presents. 

3) This public showcase of the couple rings allows for Jaedo to have some simpler couple things in the future. In comparison with the golden rings some simple bracelets of hats will be nothing. 

As loving as Doyoung is, he actually has a tendency for crafting his image. And does reveal certain information and hides another to his advantage. He is not an open book despite him being an honest person. And Tae might not be completelly comfortable with it in addition to thinking about Jae. Tae usually brags about Do’s presents like the shark plush toy, hats, cooked food, etc. You’d expect him wearing this ring nonstop...

Moreso, Tae changed the meaning of the gift from “Taedo friendship ring” to “friendship ring, nctzens including”.

Tbh, I can’t completely rule out the possibility of the rings being for the show, seeing Tae’s reaction, however, I’d expect Do to say “got us” instead of “bought” in that case. So I’m more inclined to think that Do did buy the rings, but didn’t nail it exactly (too expensive, for example, or chosen without him), so Tae was not satisfied fully.
