With no concrete proof, I feel in my heart that McDonald's whole "featured in [popular media]" packaging and commercials is specifically to undermine the strike. I just feel this. I assume I am correct.

I’m so happy for them
[Image Description: Castiel from Supernatural is saying I love you, underneath is an image of Dean Winchester with the caption: “After four months of striking the WGA has a reached a tentative agreement & finalizing the contract. If all goes well writers will get to return to work with better pay and protections. They did it. Go unions”]

all workers' strikes are good. yes even if they're inconvenient. even if they're making your life harder. even if you don't get to watch your favourite tv show. workers fighting for their rights is ALWAYS a good thing

Stock up on podcasts, movies you meant to watch, shows you missed; be ready and okay to not have new content for awhile, the strikes will delay your shows, movies you’re hoping for and more - I don’t want complaints aimed at anyone but the companies and execs that aren’t paying their artists!!

Back in 2007, I WAS one of those people who had trash takes about the writer's strike and it essentially killed my favorite show at the time (Heroes - it was never as good after). I was so mad at the time. I was also 18 and came from a sheltered, conservative household and thought they were just being greedy.
Don't be 18 year old me.
You're going to have shows that suffer. You're going to lose shows. But TV shows are not as important as people making a living wage and having safe working conditions. Don't have trash takes like I did in 2007. If you love your shows, support the writers. And if shows end or get bad after this, remember, it's not their fault. It's capitalism and greedy networks that kill art, not the artists.
Things you CAN do during the writer's strike:
- Voice your support for the striking screenwriters on social media
- Don't watch the junk filler (*cough*REALITY SHOWS*cough*) networks will throw in the timeslots of shows affected by the strike
- Cancel streaming subscriptions until the strike ends.
No boycott has been sanctioned by WGA at this time. This is called a wildcat boycott and can damage the residuals writers are currently receiving. This was bad information on my part and I apologize. I have a very large follower base and it is my responsibility to make sure correct information is presented. Thank you to @whyismangososour for holding me accountable.
- Educate friends and family who are upset about the strike (and why it isn't just the writers "being greedy" or whatever other nonsense they come up with)

marta svetek -- voice of gregory, vanny, roxanne wolf in fnaf: sb and its dlc, ruin -- has joined kellen goff in voicing her thoughts on ai reproductions of her voice. again: if you want voice actors to maintain a living wage (and their own mental health), please respect her wishes and ensure that this kind of behaviour is heavily discouraged in the future.
full text of thread below the cut for brevity:
Been getting tagged in all kinds of posts and popular TikToks of people using AI voice clones of my FNAF characters to have them sing or say all kinds of random stuff. You might think it's fun. But really it's contributing to the problem all VAs are facing in the wake of AI. The more these AI voice clones get used, the more they're normalized, and the more businesses see it as a viable alternative to real VAs when making content for you. Slowly but surely, most of your favourite VAs will be out of work. Not to mention what this will cost in terms of future generations of VAs. Incredible performances we'll never get to experience because most businesses will more often than not go for the cheapest, quickest option as soon as the technology is up to scratch. This is made even worse by the fact that we currently have very few legal protections against the unauthorized use of our voices using AI. And we're being pressured to waive those too, for a fraction of their worth. This is one of the big reasons the current strikes are a thing. If you enjoyed my work in FNAF and have any respect for the amount of time and effort VAs put into bringing characters to life, don't use AI voice clones in your fanart. I can't express how violated I feel every time I hear my voice say words that aren't my own. And just in case it wasn't clear - I have never consented to having my voice, likeness or any of my performances synthesized into AI voices/avatars etc.

This is their plan. They want to break the writers. They want to break this industry and everyone around it for their bottom lines. They do not care about anything, but profit.
And it will not stop here, it will impact EVERY CONTRACT DOWN THE LINE FOR EVERY UNION IN THE INDUSTRY. And the impact will ripple through every industry in entertainment hubs: LA, NY, ATL, etc.
"Convinced that “giving in,” as another insider put it, to the writers will result in every contract cycle from the WGA, IATSE, the Teamsters and more ending in a strike, the AMPTP is aiming for the bottom line."
Please continue to support the Writers. If SAG-AFTRA joins in tonight, support them too.
This is not just about the entertainment industry, this is about the impact and power of workers standing together. Everyone in this country is suffering from being underpaid. Unions are our power to fight against that.
The holdouts are NOT the workers on strike, it's the Producers & Executives. It's THEIR fault this is going on. It's THEIR fault the industry has ground to a halt because they won't pay fair wages and they would rather use AI to spin endless and souless profit than pay people to do the work.
Here's the article I quoted. Here's another discussing the AI issue.
July 12, 2023 9AM PST.
SOLIDARITY FOREVER!

Creatives on Strike (WGA + SAG-AFTRA)
Now that SAG-AFTRA is officially joining the WGA on the picket lines, many of your favorite shows and films you're looking forward to that were already facing major delays will now face even longer delays.
Don't blame the writers or the actors. Blame the studios for refusing to compensate them fairly. I've spoken a bit about what studios are trying to do to the profession of screenwriting in my last post about the WGA strike, but I'll be focusing on acting in this one.
It's easy to see the headlines about actors striking and go "Why are the actors striking? What the hell are they complaining about? They're all millionaires. They don't need more money!". And if SAG-AFTRA was an exclusive cool kid's club with only A-Listers amongst their ranks, maybe there's a point there. But it's not and there isn't.
There are countless working actors in SAG-AFTRA either making an honest living or living paycheck to paycheck like so many in the country are right now. Over the past few years, I've gotten to know and work with some incredibly talented actors, and even dabble in some acting myself. It's not easy work and they deserve to be fully compensated for it, whether their famous or not. And the working actors just trying to make a living like everyone else deserves it the most.
While writers are the backbone of film and television, creating worlds and characters through treatments and scripts, actors help tell those stories by bringing those characters to life through their performances. With no script or actors, you got nothing.
While I'm not a member of either guild, as an aspiring writer who does some acting every now and then, I stand with both 100%. Writers and Actors deserve to be properly compensated for their work.
Please show your support for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA on strike!
Solidarity forever.
