Heyyowhattup! Cub foods strike this weekend! All the cub foods in the Twin Cities metro area unionized with UFCW local 663 are striking and you should get out there and hold the line with them. heres a map of all the stores Do a cub crawl and see whos parking lot got the best snacks and chants. If there's a store that's open go in and ask for the manager and tellem Jonas says they're a rat, then shoplift as much as you can carry on your way out 🐀  I want my pals to not be exploited! But that's not the extent of what we need from a union. It's not enough to want a "fair share" of the wealth america extracts from the rest of the world. We cant be the exceptions to capitalism, we need to be it's destroyers. Lets learn our power and sharpen our claws and make bosses across Minnesota feel kinda weird!

We under value and take for granted artists as a society. I’m talking all artists…writers, actors, musicians, dancers, designers, painters, sculptors…the list is endless.
The commonality is that they all have either spent their time honing their skills through practice, lessons, education or all of the above. Artists dedicate their time and often their lives to their craft.
We are failing our artists. Symphony orchestras are failing across the US. Writers and actors are on strike. People involved in the fine arts are turning to independent sales. We need to shift our expectations.
We need creatives as a part of our society. What we don’t need is the expectation that artists should work for free or for a paltry income. Simply because an artist enjoys performing or creating doesn’t mean they should have to do so for nothing.
We also no longer live in an era where it is standard that the extremely wealthy build museums or libraries or fund performing arts groups. We live in an era of amassing extreme wealth for the minority of the population.
I get that profitability is important, but at what cost? Are we ok that artists can’t afford health insurance? Are we ok that artists are leaving our communities for other opportunities? Are we ok that companies are ready to use AI over humans for creative processes and performance?
I’m not ready for any of this. We will lose a significant part of our humanity by eliminating and discouraging the ability to thrive for artists. Change can be hard but change is what is needed.
We are experiencing the beginning of a labor revolution and it will not stop with our writers, actors, UPS drivers or Starbucks baristas. The peasants are fed up and the nobility needs to pay attention.
Support your local artists. Support independent artists. Support the striking unions and organizations. We can all play a part in creating a long lasting effective change.

WGA and SAG-AFTRA's strike for the Minimum Basic Agreement are reasonable, long overdue, and FAIR!
Digital illustration of a fem workers wearing a white t-shirt and jeans with a red bandana around their neck. They are sitting on a stack of TVs with various movie scenes and text that reads, 'stay tuned for worker solidarity.' They are holding a sign that reads, 'people over corporate profit.'

Friendly reminder regarding strikes
When the media cries about how the 'strikes could hurt the economy' - the correct response is, "I guess they're essential workers and should be PAID A LIVING WAGE."

A few months ago, I became an assistant manager at [insert mega large corporation] and I’m glad for the actual wage and benefits. I’m also really wanting increase morale and do as much for my coworkers as I can, unlike our previous one. Overall, I think I’m doing okay, but this week my manager brought me into a meeting where corporate wants us to be more aware of employee organizing here and at other branches. And my manage wants me to personally keep an eye out and report anything, since I have “such a close relationship” with our staff. What do I do, aunties? I feel like i can’t refuse or I’ll lose my job, and also I don’t want to report anything and risk any of my staff getting punished or fired, esp during a pandemic. Hell, I went to some of those potential union meetings when I was part time so I’m all for it. I just feel stuck?
HOT STRIKE SUMMER... is coming to a close, so let's begin this HOT STRIKE AUTUMN!!!!!
First off, your coworkers are lucky to have you. Your instincts are very ethical and correct: reporting pro-union organizing activities to your bosses is pretty shady shit and could lead to folks getting punished for the crime of... well, wanting to be treated like a human at work.
So I say you stick with the letter rather than the spirit of the task. They want you to report anything that could lead to collective organizing. Well, I don't know anything that leads to unionization faster than shitty management practices. So start reporting instances of inhumane management, or management policies that could lead to unfair treatment of labor. When they ask you who talked about labor organizing related to that poor management, just say "No one said it. I just think it's the kind of thing that could lead people to get upset and start unionizing."
It might not work. To be fair, we haven't tried it. But my hope is that it will keep you in good standing while also showing your upper management the error of their ways. Good luck, sweetness!

Starbucks workers will strike at stores across the US on 16 November, the company’s promotional Red Cup Day, in their latest attempt to pressure the company to bargain a first union contract with unionized stores and address issues such as understaffing.

Some California hotel workers welcomed the new year with a labor strike. Workers at the Hilton Pasadena and the Hyatt Place Pasadena who belong to Unite Here Local 11— a union representing a range of hotel employees — walked out at dawn Sunday as preparations were underway for the Rose Bowl Parade.  In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, union spokesperson Maria Teresa Kamel said organizers chose this weekend for the walkout because “it’s probably the biggest tourist event in Pasadena.” Dozens of other hotels have reached tentative agreements with the union since their contracts expired earlier this year, but these two had not, Kamel told the outlet.

What are two special interests that have nothing to do with each other, but fallowed a similar path of interest.
I’ll start Greek mythology and unions both started from a surface level description, that could be its own special interest, newsies, and Percy Jackson and spiraled.

come on barbie let’s get the members of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA revised contracts with the AMPTP so that they can be compensated fairly and ensured protection against any unauthorized use of their likenesses via AI which would be an enormous violation of human ethics/decency ah ah ahh yeah

I just want to say that I absolutely love how everyone's striking right now at the exact same time. The more people who are willing to show that everyone deserves a livable wage off one job the better. Fuck the rich bastards that ride your coattails and siphon off of your time, energy, and creativity. Fuck those parasites that will happily fire you for no reason other than to save a penny. Fuck those elitist shit for brains that would sell their soul and yours if it made a profit, and cater to bigots via censorship and cancellations. I only hope that workers everywhere else follow suit and we can collectively demand what we deserve.

IT’S A STRIKE!
Keen-eyed readers who do not dwell under rocks might be aware that two large unions–the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild–have recently joined forces in a massive labor strike. Their terms are simple: better pay through more equitable distribution of profits, and assurance that they will not be replaced by robots.
Given that this is the first time since the 1960s that the WGA and SAG have gone on strike together… it’s a big fucking deal. And they’re not alone! Across the country strikes and labor negotiations are popping up among auto workers, fast food workers, UPS workers, nurses, hotel workers, and more.
Our awesome Patreon donors therefore requested we answer this question…
What’s the deal with unions? Because I’ve heard they’re amazing, corrupt, empowering, exploitative, equalizing, and expensive. What’s the truth?
