Sweat and Soap is so cute! I thought it might be a bit skeevy and perverted from the cover, but it reminded me a bit of Our Teachers Are Dating, in so much that is managed to have sex in it and still be really wholesome and cute, I haven't read many manga that do that! I absolutely loved that they worked on themselves and their relationship, their insecurities, it was so nice to see that in a relationship manga, and them actually getting better rather than having endless miscommunication debacles and weird jealousy. Honestly one of my favourite romance manga of all time. Plus it was about adults, which was nice to read as a not-a-teenager-anymore. Also, I love that it didn't magically 'solve' Asako's issues, but she started to accept them instead. I need to reread it!

Yeah, some of the covers are quite steamy, especially Vol.1, but the sex in the comic is just a normal, healthy part of the relationship - just one part of it among others - and it doesn't get put into position of peeping or voyeurism from the reader's part. it's no big deal, equal for the couple to go out to eat, cook at home, take a day off together, plan their housing arrangements or something else as mundane and normal. It's a rare skill to involve sex into stories just as one part of it without it being underlined like OOOOOO LOOOOK LEWD OOOH SO RISKY OOOOO LET'S PEEP!

(Which MIGHT be because we lack good sex and especially INTIMACY in media - as a natural, easy flowing part of a story - so when people get exposure to sex in media, it always comes from a certain angle. Thus, it's hard to think outside of the box if you don't even realize that you are inside a box and things could be done differently.)

Majority of the covers turn out to be really sweet and reflect the story and the couple perfectly. There's always this "hot" intimacy in the comic here and there, where ordinary events make hearts race, just like a couple in love would experience it.

I also agree that one of the best parts in this comic is that it is about adults. They handle adult life things and adult relationship themes, like that question of moving in together and what it means to me to be a good wife and what it means to me be a good husband, and how we can go there together. There's no relationship jealously dramas - only one misunderstanding due Asako's own inner fears and insecurities, which she learns to handle and also speaks about it openly with Kotaro, eventually.

Review

Okay, the cover and the strange titles drew me into trying this one. Right off the bat the girl condition (profuse sweating) is kinda gross but also super sympathetic, i wouldn’t want to deal with that everyday! And the guy does something super creepy (forcibly sniffing her) on the initial meet cute and wasn’t sure if this was going to be a book for me, but I’m glad I finished it because it if you can get beyond the initial creepy/gross aspects (which becomes less so as you read more and they get to know each better) it is really a sweet love story between two nice decent people - who just happen to have strange quirks about them, but oddly enough makes them perfect for each other!
