@ohmyarda's expressive portrait of Tar-Míriel Ar-Zimraphel illustrates @grundyscribbling's biography of the character.

The downfall of Númenor is one of the (maybe the?) most cataclysmic events in the history of Arda. Involving a literal reshaping of the world and the consequent annihilation of an entire people, it was brought on by the rebellious voyage of Ar-Pharazôn to Aman, against the laws of the Valar. As his (unwilling) wife, Tar-Míriel had a front-row seat to the whole slow toppling of Númenor. Yet, as Grundy notes in this month's biography of Míriel:

"The text does not record Míriel’s reaction to any of these events."

As Grundy's biography of Míriel shows, she emerges as a sort of grace note on Pharazôn's story, at first just a name but then given something of a story of her own. I say "something" because her story is still very much enmeshed in her victimhood at his hands, so much that what she thought or how she reacted (or didn't) to the decisions he made go completely unrecorded.

We've now surpassed more than 150 character biographies on our site. Our reason for beginning that project back in 2007 was to provide resources for people creating fanworks. And while, if asked at the time, we probably would have said a primary aim was making more accessible the histories of some of the more complicated characters, Míriel is a reminder that an equally important purpose is bringing to light those characters whose histories Tolkien left missing, like Míriel. (She is mentioned twice in the published Silmarillion.)

Maybe her reaction to the ending of her world will at last be recorded.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people do this lately and I was wondering what’s your take on this. So if summer/winter games did come back, what would you like the roster for the two teams to be? In my perfect world Damien, Angela, Shayne, and Courtney would be on one team and the other teammates can be anyone I just would love to see those 4 on one team tho

If I'm being totally honest I'll have fun no matter how the teams get split!

For me the only two I'm really excited to see are Damien and Ang! So I'll get content of them regardless if they're on the same team or not.

If they're on the same team I get them hyping each other up and helping with challenges, cheering each other on and all that! (high-fives all around!)

If they're on opposing teams, I'll get them competing against each other! I can just see them trying to rile each other up! (Angela MOST DEFINITELY will be doing some Grade-A shit talk lmao) and if they get matched to go against each other? ugh it would be beautiful.

Them really getting into it and talking shit would make me die happy <3

(Maybe I'm leaning toward them on the same team though.. either way it'd be so much fun!)

Fey Archer can do this. That’s what Feyre Archeron tells herself everytime she looks in the mirror. That’s a lot — considering she works as a model, living the high life of a New York socialite. Everywhere she goes, everyone knows her name; but she didn’t choose this. If it weren’t for supporting her sisters, Feyre would have disappeared years ago. Her latest problem is no ghost, but he certainly haunts her. Her relationship with Rhys Sanders started as a publicity stunt, but now it’s a personal circus she can’t escape. The best thing she can do is try to hide the bruises and wait for the day that her temporary escape into the world of Sleeping With Ghosts will be real.

They meet in that underground bar long after his last show is over. Is this fate, or will they both linger in orbit until gravity pulls them away? Only time will tell.

Dathomiran Historical Timeline

*3995 bby*  Paecians are freed from Rakata enslaved by former Jedi Knight Allya

*around 3695 bby* A Paecian Dasan (leader) attempted to abuse his wife to maintain the patriarchal society, instead she killed him and took control of the clan. She declared herself Mother Nai thus began the reign of Mothers. They were no longer called Paecians but rather Dathomirans.

*around 3643 bby*  The mysterious village of Aurilia is founded as a safe haven for Force Sensitives and their neutral allies.

*around 3003 bby* Several clanswomen from various tribes band together to create the Nightsisters.

*around 2626 bby* Mandalorians make contact with Dathomir

*1995 bby* Darth Lanh, self-declared emperor, built a secret prison on Dathomir to house his prisoners for experiments. The combined forces of Nightsisters and Singing Mountain Clan destroyed the Darth and his Dark Knights. Nightsisters took possession of the prisoners and donned them Nightbrothers.

*1750 bby* The Sith again placed down a base on Dathomir for a biological experiment, which would later be called Blackwing.

*1749 bby* The clanswomen survivors of the Undead infection would later form Howling Crag Clan.

just read the ask about what the announcement could be and how you said it wouldn't take long to organise SSG.

I work in immersive theatre and events, an undertaking like SSG even within an internal company would be a massive undertaking and could take between 3 months to 6 months to plan properly depending on where it's taking place.

You have to book the site where it's taking place, making sure no one else is around because Smosh are notoriously loud while filming. You have to make sure everyone is available, as a business they need to transport everyone out to the site and if it's far enough away put the cast and crew up in hotels as it's going to be a multi-day shoot and it may be too far for them to get back home. You also have to advertise it well in advance to maximise the excitement and views of SSG. There are also a ton of other details that I have no clue about because I don't work within film/TV/digital content. (Also call me stupid, but I think a sleepaway camp themed SSG would be hilarious)

I'm glad we can talk about this!

I also was taking into account most of the things you mentioned (booking a site that would be unbothersome, the hotels/lodging, everyone being available for at least a week straight(?), and the actual process of getting all the cast and crew to location) and I still believe that is something they could get done, with a lot of hard work.

My biggest worries regarding it (and the biggest reasons I feel they haven't done it already) are making sure everyone gets to go, with most of the cast being freelance and therefore busy.

Another BIG thing is having enough crew to film IRL content. Since most of the crew works with 3 steady-cams and the occasional hand-cam, it is a big undertaking if they tried to film anything as chaotic as SSG Wild West or any of the other Games versions.

I don't think they currently have enough people to film it well. (meaning they would have to hire on more camera operators and everything else) Which I'm imagining is not only a big chunk of change $ but also hiring new people could make for an uncomfortable atmosphere.

As for them advertising it- I haven't seen ONE person that's in the Smosh fanbase not want them to continue doing SSG/SWG. I'm EXREMELY CONFIDENT that if they did some crowd funding they would hit the goal. No question. Which leads me onto the next big thing-

I'm curious if they haven't done it because of legal issues regarding health and safety.

Most of the games they would do involved a lot of potentially harmful 'stunts' that the cast did themselves (obviously), like the mouse trap blindfolded thing they did in SSG Camp, or the mechanical bull riding in Wild West (pretty much every season had some sort of dangerous activity) so I could see them not wanting to have someone get hurt and have legal action taken. (obviously I wouldn't want someone to get hurt regardless, but we're talking about absolutes)

I still think it's possible for them to do it, it would just take someone with gusto to head the whole thing (something Smosh has been missing recently). It makes me really miss some of the old producers.

I think I mentioned that if they were going to do SSG they would have already been planning it for at least a month (so that would be the minimum you said- 3 months) so I'm starting to think because that wasn't what they were teasing today that we aren't going to get SSG but SWG is still on the table?... maybe...?

So biggest things I can see causing trouble-

Not enough crew

Cast having enough freetime for a week(?) of videos

Legal is scary

Not having someone willing to lead the charge (it is a big undertaking)(but not impossible)

If they wanted to they would. But benefit of the doubt says timing is a cold hearted bitch.

SWG's "Year of History" Work Beginning Soon

This year is to be our Year of History, which can be summed up as "a designation intended to force me to move over content from the old site (much of it historical at this point) rather than building new stuff." This also comes from wanting this group's history to be documented and not just a crapshoot on whether it has been archived on the Wayback Machine.

I am on spring break, so one of the goals I'd like to accomplish is moving forward with the Year of History.

Within the next week, we will begin discussions on the #town-hall channel on the SWG's Discord server around how to best archive the historical materials we decide to begin with. If you'd like to be a part of this discussion, please join our Discord server. You can send us an ask, or you can email us at [email protected] for an invite.

Currently, we are voting on which materials we will archive first (in #town-hall). We're also looking for volunteers who will help archive this material on the site. This is primarily a data-entry role. If you'd like to volunteer, you can let me know here or at the email above; you do not need to be a member of the Discord server to volunteer.

In the weeks to come, we'll open discussions on what and how to archive various materials to make them easily accessible and useful to our community. This history belongs to everyone who has been a part of the SWG across its 18 years of existence, and I want everyone to have an opportunity to be a part of deciding how that history is preserved and made available.
