hi! i heard i should refer to you for destiel fic help. i’ve been stuck on the “sex before love” and “fake marriage/dating before love” types. do you have any you rec? a good slow burn. i’ve read great ones, but most are paced too fast. i just finished carry on by tamryneradani and it was one of the best i’ve ever read, if that gives any indication.

The Shawnee Trail by emmbrancsxx0 (@valleydean on tumblr) may be exactly what you want. It's a cowboy AU and they are having sex from the start but neither thinks the other's heart is in it. The tags even specifically mention its a slow burn established relationship. Lol.

I might also consider A Ghost Story from the same author which gives you two stories. A slow burn and a way too fast relationship all in one (it's also in my top 5 of all time fics).

If you haven't read Sobsicles, there are several that fit the bill. My favorite is probably profoundly bonded (by law) which is only 20k but features them getting married as bros because Dean doesn't have a good reason to say no.

Also maybe check out let's take a drive in which Jack turns into a kid, Dean and Cas get domestic and it still takes them an embarrassingly long time to figure things out.

Welcome to Pine Shores may not be slow enough burn but I have to recommend it because it is stellar and it is slow if you take into account the amount of time that they have been acing like idiots. They have bought a little motel. They go on little dates. They live together. They both assume the other is not into them. They are adorable idiots.

Finally, if you haven't dug into NorthernSparrow's library, you don't get a slower burn.

Forgotten and Flight are 500k. They aren’t what you are looking for (more canon adjacent case fic), but they are amazing.

Hello! I'm looking for a Sterek fic. In it, Stiles is learning from the Argents, to be an asset to the pack, and when he's at the Argent's house, he & Chris catch Allison and Scott. Scott tries to book it out the window and Stiles yells at him to stay. Unknowingly to him, Scott halts because there was Alpha-boost to the command. The pack is gaining its members through the fic, too, and Stiles meets Erica at the Hale House & gives her a jelly donut "to devour instead of him". I hope it's found!

I started watching SPN in mid-2015, between S10 & S11. After watching most of the show, I watched some convention videos that mentioned Destiel and fan fiction. Out of curiosity in mid-2016, I searched online for fan fiction, and found A Hand by thecouchcarrot as my first to read. That fic hooked me in and I fell down the Destiel rabbit hole shortly after.

god I dont remember my first destiel fic — I came into the fandom alongside castiel — but I do specifically remember the first fic I read that resonated with me & is one I still continously reread to this day ( I believe my ao3 history says I've opened it almost 300 times by now lmao ) if that counts. "an exercise in worthless" by beastofthesky is one of those fics that, in my opinion, really does keep true to canon characterization even in an au setting & is such a solid read time & time again

Thank you for keeping us posted. I'm in a similar boat where I have some fics that I knew I wanted to reread saved, but didn't know if offering to redistribute would be kosher or not. My consolations to everyone who's feeling awful about the most recent deletion; I'm still traumatized by one of my favorite authors deleting their works & profile while I was reading one of their fics and watching in real time while some beloved works disappeared. (They reposted everything later on but STILL.)

Oh, anon, hugs. It's so tough to realize a favorite is gone and you may never be able to get it again. Like, in some ways I'm lucky cause I've been here a long time - for example, like, I read works by people like lastknownwriter and TamrynEradani when they were still up, and I got copies before they were restricted by the author (well, TamrynEradani still is okay with free distribution, but maybe a year after lastknownwriter pulled theirs, they asked for works to no longer be distributed, cause they published them on Amazon). I'm glad that the one you loved came back, that's absolutely the best case scenario!

Fingers crossed none of us have to mourn a fave ever again!!!

11. How do you come up with your fic titles?

I used to stuff summaries into my titles. So one of my first fanfics, Circles of Confusing Love, was about all the Star Wars TFA characters falling in love with one another (only read it if you want to witness Hell). Now, I typically use the last line or dialogue I write, such as with my COD Mason x Woods fic, Thought You’d Never Ask. Occasionally, I title it the repeating dialogue or line I use, such as in my COD Ghost x Roach, What’s There to Talk About?. And any others that don’t fit under the above are just random titles I happened to come up with.

21. What’s your least favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

Probably letting my ideas get too big and then I either have a 20K word one-shot or a 40K chaptered story. Too much to keep track of once they get big, and frankly I’m more prone to boring myself with them upon editing.

Dean didn't actually want to fall in love, but how was he supposed to know it would all start with a goddamn tree?

 My favorite fic ever. I don't know how many times I've read it. There is switching, fluff, angst, and slow building romance. I will rec this forever.
