Thoughts on akutagawa being drawn with no highlights in his eyes, hair, coat, or on rashomon,,,like everything is drawn pure black? I like when he's drawn a little bit like not-human--contrasts real well with Atsushi's dilemma of being a tiger, personally thinking. Also like when he's drawn like a void. Little bit like the cryptid creachur he is. I think you wrote something about it in the tags on panels in his introduction in the Manga. I like to think other characters also see him the way we see him so his void ass scares the fuck out of others too. Man's skeevin and tweakin even in his design

I'm OBSESSED with Akutagawa's design. Look at him. This is what he looks like on a white background:

And this is what he looks like on a black background:

It's BRILLIANT. He literally disappears in the black. He's the ultimate monster. In his appearance, he embodies what above all is most scary for the human psyche: the darkness, the unknown. The way Harukawa took advantage of the the art rule of never using pure black by breaking it in the most clever way! No light gets reflected on him, because his form absorbs everything– is absolute darkness. Visually, his figure itself is Rashomon eating everything it encounters, and it's genius.

He is so nightmare coded. I love his big, inscrutable eyes that look like two voids, two black holes. I love how oftentimes you can't tell where Rashomon ends and where he starts, I love how sick and unhealthy he looks. I love how he looks scruffy like an abandoned dog. I love how young he looks– way younger than he is. It gives the impression of a ghost, someone who was killed before growing up and is now stuck with his young appearance no matter how many centuries pass.

I adore everything about these chapter 33 pages. The way he initially appears as just a single black shape, hardly resembling a human. His crunched, unnatural stance. The staggering. The way you can feel with your senses the thick and sticky blood. The top picture is the left page of the manga, so just imagine the visual impact of turning the page to be hit with an almost full-black page- it's meant to impress, it's meant to shake. The way he's one with the darkness: no textures on him, only white making out his outlines. The way you can't tell where his coat ends. His left arm hanging numb, limp, lifeless, inhuman. The spurts of blood on his face. His smile, how you won't notice it at first and how that makes it all the more disquieting; its juxtaposition with the violence that surrounds him and that he is the cause of. The way he covers his face, the impressions of hiding and looming. His face being split, which only adds to the horror elements. Akutagawa's character design as a whole is an ode to the gothic and grotesque.

And then this. Hello??????????????? The progression from how Akutagawa used to be to the last time we saw him alive is astonishing. It's upsetting. It really makes me wanna cry from a technical execution standpoint alone (imagine from a plot related standpoint). All the black is now replaced with predominant white, everywhere. His shirt is white and candid and pure, emphasizing contrast with the splash of blood in a way that almost results sickening. The blood on him is his this time. His face looks rounder, and healthier, and he overall looks more mature. His smile is sincere and genuine, it's light, it's affectionate. This scene is the culmination of Akutagawa's character both visually and thematically: the monster, Akutagawa, too, can be good, and arguably had good within him since the very start. Does it really matter if he lives after this? His character already developed to be the best version of himself‚ and this panel here is the proof.

"A tell?"

"Yes, a tell. A crack in your poker face." Cyno rolled his eyes at the suggestion. "I'm the general Mahamatra, Tighnari, I cannot afford to have a tell."

"It's a tell specific to your TCG game," Tighnari's smile was barely visible as he peered over his deck, but the humour was clear in his eyes. "You're not funny," Cyno frowned. "I'm not trying to be, dear."

"Go on then," Cyno began after rolling his dice, "what is it?"

"What's what?" Tighnari hummed as he grabbed the dice for his own turn rolling. "My tell," Cyno said, placing down a strategize card. "And why would I tell you that? Tsk tsk Cyno, don't you know I want to win," Tighnari's taunting grin grew behind his cards. "You're the one who brought it up," Cyno huffed, playing a support card. “And you're the one with only one character left, I just wanted to let you know why,” Tighnari said, the teasing lilt of his voice forcing Cyno to glare.

“You haven't won yet,” Cyno grumbled as he attacked, dealing 3 damage to one of Tighnari's last two characters. “No,” Tighnari conceded, beginning his round by equipping a weapon, “but I'm about to.” Tighnari used his ultimate, leaving Cyno’s card with 1 health. “I hope you have some food cards, sweetheart,” Tighnari said, “though I know you don't.”

“You don't know that," Cyno said, eyebrows furrowed as he searched through his hand. “But I do. As previously mentioned, Cyno, you have a tell.”

All Cyno could do at this point was attack again, though the 2 damage it dealt did very little when both Tighnari's cards had consumed food cards. He barely managed to break one character’s shield. Tighnari forced out a yawn. “Done?” His mocking smile served only to further frustrate Cyno. The other man nodded.

“My turn, general,” Tighnari smiled, looking through his hand. Cyno groaned. “Why bother looking through your cards when you're obviously going to win now?” Cyno asked, shoulders and jaw tensed for defeat. “Because it's fun seeing how worked up you get,” Tighnari said, “you're a terribly sore loser, dear.” With that, Tighnari used a card to switch character without ending his turn, before equipping a bow and attacking.

As the final blow to Cyno's card- and his ego- was dealt, Tighnari's smile softened. "Your tell, my love, is non-existent. I was merely bluffing to throw you off your game," Tighnari stood up and, with a kiss to the other man's temple, left the flustered general to stew in his frustration at being so easily tricked.

answered here! but to expand some more on it: nathan would also love to be able to play the piano, since he also regularly listens to classical music and it always sounds very cool to him. ruben knows how to play the piano so he ends up teaching him :] don't worry about the shift from ruvik to ruben. stuff happens in my continued post game events storyline. he's friend now

🍎 RED APPLE — where was your oc born? do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? how do they feel about their birthplace?

answered here! but to expand some more on it: there's many small towns between krimson city and sacramento which are the small towns you see in tew1. nathan would've passed through them on occasion but has never really stayed there for longer than the few minutes he would've been driving through them, and has generally always felt uneasy there. the towns don't look exactly as in tew1 in my canon because tew1 doesn't really feel like the united states in my honest opinion in terms of appearance but they would have similar vibes, just. modernized a bit to the point they don't burn down some barn with fucking. torches. as if we're in medieval times

🖤 BLACK HEART — has your oc killed or seriously wounded anyone before? have they broken someone's heart and/or broken someone's trust?

nathan has killed his parents :] they have hated him since he was born, then accused him of killing his younger sister rosie which got him sent to a jdc which was secretly mobius testing grounds in disguise and he was treated horribly there, and then when he was allowed to return home they continued to abuse and neglect him until he snapped at age 16 and grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed them both <3

after that, nathan has killed many many more people while working for mobius. he did a lot of field work (still as a teenager!!) because he was small and slippery and could easily get in and out of locations unseen, which made him perfect for eliminating important assets so mobius could instead get one of their own people in that position

🧐 FACE WITH MONOCLE — is your oc more logical or emotional?

nathan is very very logical. he kind of has to be, given the situations he finds himself in and given he works for the most powerful organization in the world and they could kill him at any given opportunity if he as much as sneezes wrong. he's a very objective man and always prioritizes the task at hand over anything else, he doesn't let himself get distracted by things he deems irrelevant to his work and because of that he is as effective and efficient as he is, but can also be described as cold and uncaring by others

later on, when he gets a lot more friends, he becomes a lot more emotional in how he acts and makes decisions. he is very loyal to the people he cares about and would both kill and die for them, and it doesn't really matter to him what happens to himself or what happens to the initial plan, he just wants to keep his loved ones safe

🔺 RED TRIANGLE POINTED UP — does your oc know how to use any weapons?

answered here! but to expand some more on it: nathan also really likes sniper rifles. he prefers a stealthy approach over anything else to begin with which is why he likes knives and handguns (a lot less loud than, say, a shotgun, would be), and a sniper rifle gives him a nice distance from his enemies which makes the combat a lot less stressful. especially while in union during the events of tew2 he can be found covering sebastian's back a lot from the rooftops with his rifle

💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.

nathan is left-handed when it comes to combat (firing guns, handling melee weapons, throwing punches or grenades) but right-handed when it comes to writing and doing other things, picking up objects etc etc! he taught himself this in case he injures his left hand in combat, then he can still do everything else normally with his good right hand

the white streaks in nathan's hair are natural, and he's had them all his life :] he also has a few vitiligo spots on his body, the most prominent one near his left eye and eyebrow which is why part of his eyebrow and eyelashes on that side also lack pigment

nathan has no personal beef with ruvik from the start. he's not around for the events of the first game so he doesn't experience the beacon incident and thus doesn't get almost killed by the guy like sebastian and kidman, and generally he doesn't really care that ruvik took control of the STEM environment after mobius took his brain out of his body to use as the core of the device because. well. <- that summary alone would have made him been like "that's somewhat understandable given the circumstances" and he didn't really see the point of continuing development of THAT device when mobius was already working on an iteration of it anyway. so basically when in my own tew3 (post game events in classic bones style. sorry. extended blorboverse 2.0) he comes face to face with ruvik, he doesn't see him as a threat as much as sebastian does and instead is mostly just curious what has brought him back to the device in abandoned beacon mental hospital
