C: what is heart-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends

when the time came and arcos died of old age, after a very long and happy life and surrounded by all his loved ones, lloyd knew it wouldn't take long for marbella to follow him. as much as he and javier had changed fate, some things are just as certain as the rising sun. so he just tends to her garden in his father's place and brings her fresh flowers every morning. marbella passes away with a garden in full bloom and the feeling of a soft kiss on her forehead.

bonus hc: lloyd takes up gardening once he grows older. it's not quite the hobby he'd had in mind when he was younger but he finds something very soothing in seeing the garden take on a new life every spring with his help. it feels like having a bit of his parents home again.

Any HC of Calder’s family’s impression of Callie and Sol when they first meet them? And vice versa Cyra’s impression of Calder and Sol?

I hesitate to think about things that might happen in the future because I don’t like to get my hopes up for something that probably won’t happen.

However, this is interesting to think about. So I’m gonna do mini ones.

Calder’s family will be worried, immediately, that Calder isn’t well-protected by his new friends. Because Callie and Sol are pretty non-threatening at first glance. It’s an incorrect assumption, for sure, but I do think they will be worried about if he’s actually protected. He is the small one, after all. (And god will they be mad if and when they learn about the Ultrus thing.)

Cyra will, on the other hand, be base-level relieved that Callie has people with her, that she hasn’t been on her own this whole time. Cyra will certainly have some concerns regarding their personalities, but she’ll be happy that Callie wasn’t alone.

"Delivery." That single word is the only warning given before a bundle of a half dozen sweet rolls are dropped into Azama's arms. "For the most handsome Hoshidan monk in town. It's a gift for a new holiday. They're callin' it 'No More Rationing Wednesday'." No one is calling it that. It's not even Wednesday. None of that really matters, though. What matters is that after weeks of misery, they're both still alive. The darker shadows beneath Python's eyes carry the weight of their time in the Ruthalia mountains, but his crooked smile lightens up his expression. "You celebrate by finally eating something so your loved ones can fret a little less. Cute tradition, don't you think?"

"Oh-?"

Surprise first colours the monk's expression, followed second by delight (a gift! for him! yay~),

and then third succeeded by a brief, dramatically feigned indignation.

"You speak as though I weren't the only Hoshidan monk in town!"

But dear Python is soon forgiven. It is a holiday, after all. And Azama can be rather magnanimous when he feels like it. He cradles the bundle o' buns with one sleeve, head tilting to better appraise them, and goodness, they seem to him the most heavenly of foods he's ever seen in his life.

(Such has, mind you, been the case for any and every edible morsel he's come across in the short time since their return to the monastery, but that's neither here nor there.)

He plucks one free from the bunch of them, goes to pop it into his mouth, but he stops short.

"Ohoho... An adorable tradition, I must agree! And I would know," he goes on, gesturing with the sweet bun, "as Hoshido is the land of tradition."

He chuckles, but his smile doesn't quite reach his eyes in the same way Python's does.

Loved ones, hmm~?

He thinks back to the little gremlin of Ruthalia village and her outburst.

It is a holiday, Azama reminds himself.

"So, you'll join me in celebrating, yes?"

Not that he gives Python any choice in the matter, redirecting the roll in his hand right into that mouth as soon as it opens to give any manner of response.

The monk but smiles, and this time it's the genuine article.

"Because on this, the inaugural No More Rationing Wednesday... I, too, would like to fret a little less."

Replayed ‘Ghostbusters: The Video Game (realistic version)’ recently, and there’s something interesting that I noticed (spoilers for that btw).

Throughout the game, the only Ghostbuster (aside from the Rookie) that fought all the Mandala Guardians was Egon Spengler.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like being the only one who dealt with all the top members of Shandor’s cult would have been the starting point of the “paranoia” he would come to have by the time of ‘Afterlife.’

Just a headcanon of mine.

Ohh that's an interesting take! I hadn't thought of that.

I too like to think of TVG as being canon or at least partially canon. Egon having more experience dealing with the guardians than the others could certainly contribute to the paranoia that caused him to leave. However, I do believe he's not the only one who fought the guardians besides Rookie. It's been years since I played the game so you can correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole team fought The Chairman and the Juvenile Sloar. Egon did help Rookie fight the spider witch, so that gives him one more fight than the rest of the team. That could still help support your theory.

If we want to make things even more interesting, we can take into account that Rookie eventually goes to work in Chicago (according to the comics). Callie, Trevor, and Phoebe were living there at the start of Afterlife. Perhaps Egon asked Rook to go keep an eye on his family and keep them safe?

By either a miracle or a curse, Thancred and Phoenyx ended up alone together as the group searched for looking grass in Il Mheg. The unsure tension between them was unbearable. It had been such a long time since he'd seen the Warrior of Light, but only mere weeks had passed for him. He felt like a memory plucked from the past standing before him, distant and unreachable despite being close enough to touch. Phoenyx put on a smiling face, but he could tell it wasn't entirely genuine. It didn't reach his eyes. He was clearly torn and afraid because of their time apart. Not to mention that something just felt... off about him. Thancred couldn't quite put his finger on what.

After a few moments of awkward silence, Phoenyx spoke up. "I'm going to head to the field over there to search, I'll return shortly."

Thancred looked at him, unable to find the courage to properly address their predicament, he resolved to a different approach to ease the tension. "Alright. Just be careful in the grass."

Phoenyx's brow furrowed. "... why?"

"Well, it's full of blades." Thancred grinned.

It took Phoenyx just a moment longer than he would have liked to understand the pun, but once he did he couldn't stop the genuine smile from cracking across his face and the bout of laughter that followed it. "You're insufferable, you know that?"

"You say that as if it's not your favorite thing about me."

Fanfiction Writing Asks

1. Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?

I spend a lot of time daydreaming, yes, which is why I feel so insistent upon jotting down all of my ideas so I can refer to them later. Sometimes, the turnaround can be rather quick if I have the motivation AND time, but not always. Most of the time, I've been thinking about the scenes I write for a while before I have the chance to actually write them down.

13. Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what have you been listening to recently?

It depends on whether I think I can focus or not. I CAN put on music while writing if my brain is able to just... not even process that I'm listening to something KRKF but if I notice it's there, then I can't think straight. The words get in the way of MY words. I don't think I've been listening to anything while writing recently, though.

27. What area of writing do you feel strongest in?

I can bring it with characterization, if anything. I feel like I am very good at executing different characters and their personalities-- and making them seem distinct from each other. Which doesn't sound all that impressive, but it is kinda hard to do. Otherwise, I don't know. Doesn't everyone say they're good at dialogue? I'm good at dialogue, too, lol.

But I feel very confident about how I characterize, first and foremost.

28. What area of writing do you want to improve in?

My narration / prose could be better at times. I get caught in clunkiness when I don't know how to transition scenes or establish a timeskip and I can feeeeeel how awkward it is. On that note, also awkwardness with mentioning something in narration without it feeling too explanatory. Like that you notice you're having something explained to you, I suppose. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't.

I could also get better at ending chapters or things. I'm not often sure of what to say, which is why I lean heavy on ending chapters or things with a line of dialogue rather than narration.

51. Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read?

Wow, that's a great question. As I've said before, I don't really read fanfiction. It just doesn't really interest me, but when I've been reading fic lately, it's all ship stuff and smut. Like that's usually the only reason I'll go after fic is if I wanna see some characters fuck NJBSDHJ If I find great writing or character studies therein, that's a bonus, though. I like copernicusjones's Black/bright fics because it balances sexual content with legitimately good writing and character studies, for example.

And, as I've said, I don't write romance. And I don't write smut really either. I posted one smut fic publicly one time and then got so embarrassed I orphaned it NJRFD and I had a short period a couple years where I wrote a good handful of fics for myself and then I stopped and never did it again. Not sure why lol. I'm not a romance writer or reader under most circumstances, though.

I haven't really answered the question yet properly, huh. Okay, let's think about the type of stuff I read in terms of actual, published works. I like literary fiction, or more ~highbrow~ type novels, but I don't necessarily need it to be lit fic to be good to me. I just want to have an emotional experience of some kind. I don't necessarily often want light, or fluff, or what we call "commercial" books. I like character studies, that kind of thing. Better yet if it's a character(s) just... fuckin... going THROUGH it.

Not always, but those books stick in my ribs the most. I gravitate often towards classics as well for similar reasons.

I can't be so arrogant as to compare my writing to literary fiction at this junction though JNSD

ANYWAYS, I like my writing and I do think my writing ultimately reflects the kind of things I value in writing overall. I've called my writing style "brutal character study" for a while and I think that's true lol. I want it to be character-driven and I want them to go through HELL before anything gets better!!!! I just find that fun, and it's what I come back to. I like putting a character through hell and seeing how they crumple-- and how they manage to continue, how they could potentially heal, or how this affects them from then on.

Stuff like that clicks with me, and I suppose that carries over to the books I read quite often. Maybe. Probably.

78. What motivates you during the writing process?

The basic desire to simply see this story be written because I want it out of my brain lol-- and my investment in the characters, of course. My writing is very driven by special interests, so I'm writing about characters I'm thinking about all day to begin with, and I need to have SOMETHING to show for it. My sheer love of characters is a better answer, then, I think. I just love the Character!! And I have all these ideas, so I simply must write some of them. Or try, at least.
