i think my favorite thing about nimona is how genuine it is. like obvi there are other animations out there like nimona but i think this is the first time i actually appreciated it. all the characters have different body shapes and face structure
and their facial expressions are real and exaggerated (BALLISTER SHHHHSHHS ITS OKAY BABY🙏)
and just how their faces change a mile a minute:
like imo the only person who doesnt have that exaggeration is the director??? woman is so mild nd professional smh

The Nimona movie could have been 30 minutes shorter if Ballister had just sent Ambrosius the full video. "You see, my kid couldn't have been mimicking the Director, simply because she was too busy mimicking YOU, darling. Oh, and did you see that part where the Director drove the sword into you??"

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT AMBROSIUS'S LINE
"What are we doing?"
Its near the part where Nimona's on her way to go to the statue and the Director issued the weaponry to fire at Nimona
That moment when Ambrosius said the line, standing while everyone screamed and ran around him and the city was being destroyed, you could see his realization that Ballister was right.
That the Director was doing things wrong.
That the Institute was a big sham in royal clothes.
That he was a part of the problem.
You could hear his realization.
Why are we attacking and harming everyone with the purpose of harming one scared lonely kid?

I actually much prefer the movie character design for the Director to the comic version
In the comic she was tall and gaunt and eventually revealed to be bald. Not exactly the height of female beauty and well in line with what is expected of a female villain
Her movie version on the other hand, was blonde and attractive in a Karen sort of way. She looks "normal" and unthreatening
And in a story about people who don't fit the mold, think that was the best choice they could have made for their antagonist

I love Lucretia as a character because you first meet her and she’s in her mid-50s and she’s so funny and cool and you’re like wow... milf...
and then you learn that she actually lost 20 years of her life in a moment in wonderland, so she’s really a lot younger than she looks
and then you learn that she was stuck at the same age for 100 years, so she’s really a lot older than she looks... and you’re like wow... milf...

Ambrosius: Ballister has gone into hiding after murdering the Queen so I am now going to punch every single knight in their faces
Director: Why???
Ambrosius: He was pretty much 85% of my impulse control

two sides of the same coin
She’s afraid of being considered a monster, and acts chaotic and spunky but is actually extremely vulnerable.
When her fear takes over, she wants to destroy the monster.
She’s afraid of ever encountering a monster, and acts stoic and calm but is actually extremely vulnerable and unstable.
When her fear takes over, she wants to destroy the monster.
They’re actually more similar than we give them credit for.
