It’s one of the least egregious things she’s done, but every time I watch Hetty ruin Deeks’ train set, I get irrationally angry. There was zero reason for it. It’s not at all amusing as they tried to play it off.

What if Swans were Irish? And what if swans were Irish? So many questions, so many. This succulently mopey Irish drone folk stuff comes with heaps of perhaps-undeliberate Pirates of the Caribbean vibes... it’s quite cool, but not that cool.
Pick(s): ‘Bear Creek’, ‘The Turn’

@loreofcardigan tagged me to list 5 topics i can talk on for an hour without preparing any material ! thank you nym 🧡
umm i guess my first question is whether i need to say accurate things about the topic for an hour or if i can just sort of bullshit it. lol. so how about i list five things and then say how much of the hour would be bullshit?
crossword construction. this would be 0% bullshit. many a person has rued getting me going on this topic.
french phonotactics. this talk might be hard to get started without a specific prompt, but once i found an in, i could keep it up for an hour. >50% would have to be bullshit (or be qualified with a lot of "my guess is..."es) because i haven't formally studied this and hell i can't even distinguish all the french phonemes. but i could sound very convincing to people who don't know anything about french or phonotactics!
i bet i could talk about murderbot for an hour. 15% bullshit of the "mmm...that's a reach" variety, but most of my theories are i think pretty well supported.
that poem about the ocean i wrote a few years ago. i recite poetry to myself sometimes when i'm upset or have insomnia or just for funsies, and one time i couldn't fall asleep so i tried reciting this poem but got distracted analyzing it and stayed up an hour explaining it to myself. but i wouldn't have been sleeping anyway so it was fine. generally i should be able to talk for an hour about any poem i've written, as a poem is a dense and intricate system for communicating something, and to communicate that something in another way, or to break down the way in which the poem is communicating it, would be pretty involved. but that one in particular i know i could talk about for an hour because i've done it before. this would be 0% bullshit because i wrote the fuckin thing lol.
paintings of light reflecting off water. one of my favorite topics, however it would be nigh on 80% bullshit because i know nothing about visual art except how it makes me Feel. how does it do what it does, and what techniques are at the artist's disposal to make it do that, and what context is any one painting (or style of painting, or artistic technique, or motif, etc.) in dialogue with? fuck if i know. but boy could i make stuff up about it.
tagging @joelletwo, @qserasera, @uovoc, @grammarpedant, @dangerliesbeforeyou, @opalescent-potato, @treecakes, and @ctl-yuejie but as always no pressure <3

There's a very specific, very odd feeling of asexual outrage when you see your fave in a smash or pass poll with majority "pass" votes, and you quickly remember that in a real-life scenario, you would absolutely pass, no doubt about it, but everyone else is saying it for the wrong reasons.

genderqueer and autistic!? just like me for real. you're cool™️
Thank you!!!!
Eheh, yeah. Gender has always been a weird thing for me. I've always been a girl, and I am feminine-alighned mostly, but at the same time... it also doesn't feel completely right.
Not a girl, not a boy, not nonbinary, not fluid.
But a secret fith thing: Me.
I'm a girl but in a way that Lesley or Sketchbook is a girl. That meaning feminine-alignhed in concept and pronouns, but also... not?
Which doesn't an entire amount of sense, but... eh. Gender is simply a cobstruct made to sell pink coloured atomic bombs for reaveal parties, so sod that.

They would do this wouldnt they
They miiiiiiiiight but I just can't see what the point would be? Most of the changes beyond the fundamental backstory change between Rhaenyra and Alicent has mostly been about stuff that was considered "vague" in the Fire&Blood histories, and the battle of Rook's Rest was very well chronicled, seeing as it was a large battle with several important outcomes. This is also predicated on the idea that Rhaenys narratively needs to atone for not killing the Greens, which has never been suggested in either the writing or filmmaking, as well as the fact that Vhagar and Sunfyre being involved is seen as a sort of plothole(?) that this would solve. Not to mention, as someone who has had positive feelings for Rhaenyra and is trying to keep myself neutral on the Blacks even while being pro-Green, this wouldn't make Rhaenyra a more compelling protagonist, it just makes her look kinda dumb if she, a claimant queen and the only member of her faction with any legitimate claim to the throne, gets herself in trouble and needs rescuing by a lesser royal. There's a reason why when kings fought in wars in our world, they still had guards around them to make sure they never came to real harm, not to mention that this got phased out (in England, the last king to die in battle was Richard III in the 1480s, and Henry VIII had to be physically stopped from going into battle and potentially getting himself killed). If Rhaenyra does something stupid and reckless that costs her multiple allies and makes her seem like an idiot, that's not going to endear the audience to her.
(Not to mention, Aegon already has enough motivation to want his revenge on Rhaenyra? Her fight for the throne is what caused the entire war in the first place, which means that if she hadn't done it his brothers and his youngest son wouldn't have died and his beloved Sunfyre wouldn't have been so injured, and it was on Rhaenyra's authority that two thugs broke into his mother's chambers and physically assaulted her, before murdering his very young son in front of his sister/wife and his daughter, that alone is reason enough to want revenge on Rhaenyra and have a determination not just to see her dead but make sure she suffers)
But here's the thing I think the thing most people don't understand is that Rook's Rest shouldn't even really be about the battle itself. For one, it's a blaze of glory for Rhaenys, to show her as how she was meant to be, a battling warrior fighting for her cause, the Queen Who Never Was But Should Have Been. Considering how much the show has shown that everyone around Rhaenys, not just Rhaenys herself, knows she would have been a better ruler, this is the culmination of that, before she dies and gives her side an advantage in Aegon's injuries. For two, it's not about Greens vs Blacks. It needs to be about Aemond and Aegon.
Rook's Rest comes at the end of a period time that saw a) Aegon being the only member of the family to stand by Aemond and publicly support him after Storm's End and b) a serious tragedy being dealt to Aegon because of Aemond's actions. That's why I said here that I wanted Aegon's role in the battle to come as a shock to Aemond and Criston, if not the audience. It's the kind of thing he would do, he is in fact restless and more chaotic than Rhaenyra, and it needs to be a culmination of a severe up and down relationship that has seen Aegon and Aemond at their closest and then at their most distant as Aegon grieves, to say nothing of how he might end up blaming Aemond for Jahaerys's murder. The emotions from the aftermath of the battle should be about Rhaenys dying, because a major character is gone, and Aegon choosing to make the brother he knows is ambitious for the crown to be his regent, and Aemond not seizing that as an opportunity for power but using that to prove himself worthy of the task to the brother who supported him, the brother who blamed him, the brother who saved him. That's the core of it; it's not about Rhaenyra. It needs to be Rhaenys centric and Aegond centric or it's going to look bad and sloppy, and despite the shit I'll give these writers for when I think they've got it wrong, they're not stupid. They know what they're doing for the most part. They don't want to be writing a shallow show, and for the most part they're not, and if they make this change, they're turning what should be a hugely charged moment into something shallow.
And they've also got George as consultant, and they seem to be keeping him fairly involved in the process, so I doubt they'd make such a huge change unless he approved it, which I don't think he will otherwise he would have written it into the original book, which doesn't have Rhaenyra do any sort of fighting. So at the end of the day, yeah they could make that change, but even just looking at it from an objective writing standpoint, I don't see any reason why they would, or how that would better serve anyone except pro-Blacks redditors.

FOOD SCIENCE: it's all bullshit. Food isn't real. We don't know anything about how it works. Any given food could make you immortal or kill you instantly for all we could say. Maybe it's all placebo or something. Don't get me wrong, if you don't eat you definitely die. But I basically just say whatever Cadbury or the Beef Council or whoever paid my latest grant says. I'm the Nesquik bunny with extra steps. Sometimes I imagine the grantmakers telling me when I'm allowed to piss or jerk off, and I have to admit the thought's been arousing lately
CLIMATOLOGY: you know, when i became a climate scientist i figured we'd be fighting global warming. But so many people donate their bodies to science. It turns out we have to spend so much time blowing up their bodies with dynamite that we don't have time to do climate science. Blowing them up and turning them into goop and mist is a full-time job, at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week I spend doing it. I'll tell you how my day goes: I kiss my beautiful wife goodbye and drive to my job in the morning, I stuff dynamite into the bodies of dead people who donated their bodies to science, and obviously I have to stand well clear which also takes a lot of time - and, well, one thing leads to another, and then I'm home again, zero actual climate science performed. I haven't even read a paper since grad school, let alone written one. I know less about the weather than your local news team. At least they don't have to blow up all these dead guys with dynamite all the livelong day
ENGINEERING: I love murder and death and killing and violence and death and murder and killing and murder and death murder violence murder kill death violence violence violence violence
OCEANOGRAPHY: There's aliens down there man

It really saddens me to see Aziraphale get the full force of everyone’s contempt over his reaction to the kiss & here's why:
Tumblr media
What do we know about Aziraphale's true character? What they we been shown? Well, he’s a silly angel, who cares too much, loves his partner Crowley and truly wants to do what he believes is the right thing!
Don't get me wrong, I can see why a lot of people side and identify with Crowley after the final fifteen, given his trauma and the fact that he was the one making himself vulnerable by initiating the kiss.
But here the thing: it’s not like Aziraphale acted out of character after hearing Crowley’s proposal. We, as the audience, have been shown multiple times when Crowley has begged for them to run away together and every time we’ve seen it, it has been in a situation where Crowley wants to abandon all responsibility. It’s a trauma response and I don’t blame Crowley for being traumatized by Heaven and Hell. Just like I don’t blame him for not wanting to go back to either.
But Aziraphale has never responded positively to this proposition before. The only difference this time was the kiss. A beautiful, desperate, awkward kiss!
Aziraphale has always been wired to take responsibility and direct action even when he shouldn’t. For him, Azi’s personal code is to always do what he believes is the right thing to do, even if it might not end well. He gives the flaming sword to humanity, he saves Job’s children, he discorporates himself to stop the apocalypse, he does the thing with the halo.
I just don’t buy the narrative that he chose Heaven over Crowley. I think Aziraphale chose Heaven *because* of Crowley. He knew as long as he was in charge, he could keep Crowley safe.
Tumblr media
Azi clearly loves Crowley despite his cognitive dissonance at all times. He can talk all the livelong day about how they "aren’t friends," but his actions speak the opposite. He cares deeply for Crowley. Azi trusts Crowley, he lets him get “plenty of use” out of the bookshop, he turns a neighborhood association meeting into a cotillion ball so that he can dance with him, he risked an eternity in Hell by wearing Crowley’s face.
He also knows that Crowley always comes back especially his angel needs him. Unless Crowley does a 180 and returns to Hell to actively thwart Heaven out of spite (which ngl that would great television & a theory I’d like to dwell deeper into elsewhere) this was just another disagreement and they will work it out somehow by working together. And hopefully learn how to communicate clearly!
The very root of the argument was misunderstanding and failure of communication on both sides.
The more I think about the “I forgive you” line, the more I think it may have just been Azi’s gut reaction to read the kiss as one of Crowley’s “temptations.” It’s a loaded word, but I think most people read the kiss as a last act of desperation to convince him to run away. In the past, we have seen Azi’s automatic response to what he feels like is a temptation from Crowley has always been to “forgive” him.
Is it irritating? Yes. Is it good communication? No. Is it a trauma response? I think yes.
I think that’s why the ending of season 2 didn’t upset me as much as it has upset others. I feel like I understand both sides—both how and why Crowley and Aziraphale make their decisions—because the writing is so damn good.
*Aziraphale did not reject or abandon Crowley.*
That last look at Crowley before stepping into the elevator was not a “good bye” or a “fuck you.” I truly believe he looked back to remind himself why he’s doing what he’s doing in the first place!!!
Aziraphale is protecting Crowley because he loves Crowley and believes their relationship is not only worth making sacrifices for, but also strong enough to withstand them!
