Mr Darcy having too much pride and that being why Lizzie hates him is good but have you ever considered the comedy in Lizzie just fucking hating him because he said a shitty thing about her once and like never budging on that because that is so funny

some REAL weird stuff: on april 9, the lizzie bennet diaries facebook page started promoting an app which is meant to basically be a rewatch of the show on the anniversaries of the episodes being released, which coincidentally is the same idea ashley clements, who played lizzie, had and made two years ago on the 10th anniversary. people thought it was shady esp since ashley has said some pretty disparaging stuff about how the creator of the show handled things while it aired and after it was done, so they messaged her and she’s just posted this. apparently, NO one besides bernie su is getting paid - not residuals, nothing from the fact the lbd channel is monetized, nothing from the app. there are producers and actors that worked on the show in the comments saying they weren’t even CONTACTED about it, which is INSANE
since i know some of u follow me for p&p & might see ads for the app, here’s the heads up that you should not download it and probably not interact with the lbd accounts at all. they really have no interest in the wellbeing of the crew that made the entire show possible. it’s very sad :/

Mod note: While the spin-off series like The Lydia Bennet! are absolutely worth watching, IMHO, we're just including the main channel videos in this question, to keep things simple.

Today I learned (12 years late) that the head writer of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Margaret Dunlap, had previously worked on The Middleman and Eureka. Yesterday I learned that Sean and Sinead Persaud, head writers of Shipwrecked Comedy, are writing on the new Librarians show. I like it when people who write things I like work on other things I like!

my second most favorite adaptation of pride and prejudice is the Lizzie Bennet Diaries because it captures Lizzie’s selfishness so beautifully by having the story told not only from her point of view but by Lizzie, herself. The older I get the more and more I realize how selfish Lizzie actually is and how the latter half of the story is Lizzie learning how to stop being selfish. Everyone loves the moment Lizzie tells off Darcy and how he changes but I never see praise about just how much Lizzie changes after this encounter. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham’s affairs were none of Lizzie’s business but she not only involved herself in them, but shamed Darcy for his role in it. I consider the letter to be the turning point of the story because Lizzie is forced to look her prejudice towards Darcy in the eyes, along with her prejudice for everything else. Pride and prejudice, though written as a satirical piece, remains one of the greatest love stories of western literature. It’s not just about a man changing for a woman, it’s about two people learning to grow in their care for others. It’s not until the two stop worrying about themselves that they are able to come to the conclusion that they truly do love each other. The difference in Darcy’s proposals and Lizzie’s humility before Darcy for the things that he did, not for her gain, but for the care of her family. Though it was all indeed because of and for Lizzie, the actions Darcy took were for the benefit of her sisters and parents before they were for Lizzie.

Attention Middle Earth Fans!
Please check out this Kickstarter for a travel show wherein the host, Mary Kate Wiles, will be traveling to at least 3 different houses in the US wherein the owners have made them look like Hobbit houses. There are many more than you might think!
kickstarter
There's a pilot episode available on Mary Kate's YouTube channel right now! Link to that right here! It has classic Travel Channel vibes, particularly reminiscent of Samantha Brown to me personally.
And if Mary Kate looks familiar to you, it's because in addition to being a known immense Tolkien fan, she's also an actress! You may know her from

And more! This is a passion project for her and I think it's a really cool one. I know I'd love to stay in a Hobbit house someday and it'll be nice to know what I'd be getting into if I did. Please consider checking out the Kickstarter and supporting it if you can!

Pride and Prejudice
Classic and loose adaptions from 1940, 1967, 1980, 1995, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019
The second of Jane Austen’s novels, first published in 1813, is the most often adapted, inspiring various different takes on it. The ones pictures above are detailed below:
Pride and Prejudice (1940 Film)
This black and white film departs from the original novel in some (or should I say many?) points
Written by Aldous Huxley and Jane Murfin, adapted from the stage adaptation by Helen Jerome; directed by Robert Z. Leonard
Starring Greer Garson as Elizabeth Bennet, Laurence Olivier as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Edward Ashley Cooper as George Wickham, Maureen O'Sullivan as Jane Bennet, Bruce Lester as Mr. Charles Bingley, Ann Rutherford as Lydia Bennet, Melville Cooper as Mr. William Collins, among others.

Starring Ashley Clements as Elizabeth Bennet, Daniel Vincent Gordh as William Darcy, Wes Aderhold as George Wickham, Laura Spencer as Jane Bennet, Christopher Sean as Bing Lee, Mary Kate Wiles as Lydia Bennet, Julia Cho as Charlotte Lu, Maxwell Glick as Ricky Collins, among others.
Lizzie’s videos amount to 100 episodes + 10 Q&A, but shorter series enrich the story by offering other characters’ perspectives, most notably Lydia’s (and also Georgiana’s). A playlist at Pemberley Digital’s Youtube channel features them all in order.
The series has also been adapted into a book, The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet (2014), and spawned a sequel novel, The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet (2015).
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016 Film)

The story takes inspiration from all 6 of Austen’s major novels (plus Lady Susan), but mostly from Pride and Prejudice. Others stars include Chandelly Braz as Mariana Benedito (Marianne Dashwood) and Anajú Dorigon as Cecília Benedito (Catherine Morland).
Features 100 episodes in the International cut. The telenovela has been broadcast in other countries and languages (such as Spanish) but as far as I know, not in English.
Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta (2019 TV Film)
Loose adaption set in modern Atlanta, USA. All-black cast. Written by Tracy McMillan, directed by Rhonda Baraka
Starring Tiffany Hines as Elizabeth Bennet, Juan Antonio as Will Darcy, Raney Branch as Jane Bennet, Brad James as Charles Bingley, Reginae Carter as Lydia Bennet, Carl Anthony Payne as Rev. Collins, among others.
*****
Personal favorites: 2005, then 1995. But also: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Orgulho e Paixão
I also enjoyed Atlanta and, while it’s been a while since I’ve seen Bride and Prejudice, it’s got Indian musical numbers so c’mon, one gotta watch it.
Back to the closer adaptions, despite its age, 1980 is also good! 1940 is...very different, but fun in its own way.
In fact, while I find some of these versions weaker, I could find enjoyment in all of them - but maybe that’s cause I’m a sucker for P&P.

i can't believe the lizzie bennet diaries guys are not in this... i was so looking forward for their bingley to sweep. that guy is so hot
I was tempted but I've tried to keep them to the time period or the Bride and Prejudice men would also 100% be in there! But here's a Bingley poll so you can still have a chance to support your man

Pride & Prejudice: Modern adaptations
We got adaptations of vastly different flavours here.
Bride and Prejudice (movie)
Bollywood! Modern day! Music! Gurinda Chavda! Darcy fighting Wickham in front of a different Bollywood movie!
Fire Island (movie)
It managed to make Mrs. Bennet and Mary into likeable characters and completely nailed what modern day gay Wickham would be like (he posts a BLM thirst trap on his Instagram) Fun flirty gay take, the most perfect Lizzy and Darcy chemistry, gay shenanigans
The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (vlog)
This vlog series is extremely clever in how it translates situations into a modern context (e.g., Mr. Collins’ proposal becomes a business proposal). Due to being a series of 100 short videos airing over the course of an entire year, the audience gets to know the characters and their relationships on a much deeper level than most adaptations can. Charlotte and Lydia especially are more developed than the original novel and allow the girls to become more empowered than their novel counterparts.
