Stoick the Vast

8/10

He was an antagonist in the first movie change my mind. His conflict with Hiccup was super interesting and compelling, definetly one of my favorite parts of the movie

The Red Death

6/10

It did it’s job ig? It felt like a video game boss lol

Mildew

I hate this greasy shit stain of a man and I have no clue how he got three wives

Fungus deserves better tbh

The Whispering Death

7.5/10

Fucking terrifying dude, absolute nightmare fuel, I love it (and it’s history w Toothless is a cool addition)

Not as scary as the whispering death, honestly, it was alright

Alvin the Outcast

Pretty basic, but he was solid. Really enjoy most of the episodes he’s in and I like the tie in w his history with Stoick

The greasiest man alive. He discovered free will halfway through Race to the Edge and even then he succeeded and literally nothing he tried. He’s kinda funny sometimes ig.

Heather the Unhinged

Obsessed with this man. Easily the best HTTYD villain in the franchise and he creates the best conflicts in the series by far. I love the way he mirrors Hiccup’s character, I could honestly go on for a while about how much better he is than all of the other villains in the whole franchise lol

Krogan

His overall vibe is super cool and I really enjoyed that episode where he and Viggo were looking for ways to kill each other. His design is awesome

He was alright, but I was never really scared of him. I liked how he killed Stoick, and he put Hiccup in an interesting situation, but other than that, he just didn’t do it for me

i just saw a post talking about this absolute beast

and i wanted to point out my favorite similarities to this absolute beast

the Red Death and the Bewilderbeast.

they’re both rare alpha species dragons. which i think is really interesting.

they’re referred to as the queen and king respectively.

what i think is the most interesting is that there are 2 of them (alpha type dragons), but one is distinctly more powerful than the other.

with the red death, it would seem only dragons of her nest are loyal to her. she has an influence over them yes, but she cannot fully control them. let alone have control over any dragon she’d like.

whereas the bewilderbeast can fully control any dragon he feels like. Like full-on mind control do what I want, not just “hey get me some food or i’ll eat you”.

another cool way that dreamworks connected them is the sound they make. and i’m not talking about roars.

i’m talking about this background ambient noise. it’s so faint you can barely hear it, but if you listen closely you’ll hear that it’s the same sound.

listen carefully to these clips.

this sound is what controls the dragons, and it’s the exact reason Hiccup covers Toothless’s ears in httyd 2.

it really is the little things 😌

Httyd au in which Hiccup gets to be the feral dragon boy he was destined to be.

Basically, what if the underwater scene in the first movie when Stoick frees Toothless from his chains during the fight with Red death didn't happen? (Im talking about that scene before Stoick tells Hiccup that he's proud to call him his son)

I think there was some form of understanding between Toothless and Stoick in that scene. When Stoick pulled Hiccup out the water and broke Toothless free he showed Toothless, for the first time, that he wasn't the enemy here. Not anymore.

What if that had never happened?

What if Toothless managed to break the chains, all by himself, fuelled by his panic when he saw Hiccup drowning? What if Hiccup managed to cook up a last minute plan to free him, using all those sharp bits of metal and debri to do the job quicker, before he lost breath?

In both cases the fight would probably go like how it did in canon, minus the heartfelt moment Hiccup shared with Stoick before the battle.

Hiccup would still get knocked off by the Red Death's tail, and Toothless would undoubtedly go after him, having to bite his leg off in process, etc etc.

But,,,,when Stoick finally finds them after the battle, worried out of his mind, thoughts consumed by the fact that the last thing Hiccup might've heard from him was him declaring that he wasn't his son, he does not encounter a trusting night fury. Toothless does not unfurl his wings to show him his son.

Instead, he glimpses his son under it's wings as it shifts, standing with no little difficulty, with Hiccup's limp form between it's forelegs as it growls and hisses at him.

Toothless absolutely mauls anyone daring to approach them, and it eventually has to be subdued by the entire gang + their dragons. It isn't an easy feat, despite Toothless also being injured and drained by the battle.

In the end, they manage to get Hiccup the medical care he needs, the dragons ferry the vikings back to Berk, and it's all a very slow process, especially with the feral protective Night Fury stubbornly guarding Hiccup. Astrid is the only one able to approach them.

And that trend continues,,,even long after Hiccup has recovered. Toothless makes every effort to drag him away from people, and on the rare occasion he isn't successful, he just spends the whole time threatening the poor sods foolish enough to come too close.

As a result, Hiccup spends much of his time away from people, except for Astrid and the gang and most of his time is spent around dragons, learning about them and just being Hiccup being feral.

He goes of flights further and further away from Berk, trips lasting longer and longer, and Stoick fears one day he might never come back. He talks to the beasts in their own language, with hisses and clicks and chirps, the draconic sounds bleeding into his Norse. The Night Fury follows him like his own shadow, protecting him far better than Stoick ever could.

He rues the day he disowned his son.

For it seemed as if the Night Fury knew what he had done, and took Hiccup as it's own hatchling.

i created a mini sketch in my english literature book and then moved onto my a4 sketchbook. i have a +4hr break between lessons at college and thought i'd provide some content.

So, my dumbass always wondered why the queen dragon in HTTYD 1 was dubbed ‘the Green Death’. Clearly their color scheme was more bluish-red.

However, my sister made a very good point when watching the movie the other day: when the dragon’s preparing to fire, it’s green gas. the last thing you see before death comes.
