just finished episode 6…. truly don’t know how to feel about these changes. would love to know your thoughts bc i’m just kinda baffled by some changes tbh

Mixed feelings as always:

Percy's dream slapped. I loved Kronos's actor. It felt perfectly eery. No notes.

No percabeth late night convo on the truck. This doesn't surprise me given we sort of did that on the train already, but now there's just another iconic book moment that we'll get bits and pieces of, but never actually get to see in its entirety/original setting.

I did vibe with the glass prism tool for the iris message and it was pretty cool. The Percy + Annabeth argument was great but I'm gonna be honest, Luke being like "you're arguing like an old married couple" was laying it on a tad thick to me idk idk. I know I'll probably be in the minority there lol but I think it would have liked the line better if Percy and Annabeth got more embarrassed to his statement but they both reacted to it like :/ so it just felt heavy handed on the show runners part more than anything

Lotus Hotel vibes? Lackluster. Uninspired. It just didn't capture that outrageous paradise for kids feeling from the book because they turned it into Hermes' hangout so there's a whole bunch more adults than kids. Basically felt like if you took the movie's version and turned down the energy of it by a mile lmao. (Which is also ironic given RR's post about it today).

And of course the kids immediately know what's happening so like. No fun mystery. No Percy figuring it out. Just them being like "omg we need to be careful" and then immediately separating from Grover lmao.

Okay. LMM's Hermes.... it wasn't bad. Thankfully there was no singing. He was fine. It's more or less that turning the Lotus story line into a Hermes' storyline was like an "okay, I guess we're doing this" thing. I mean I guess we finally introduced something for the non-book reader's to pick up on that Luke might not have the best relationship with his dad (and consequently the gods). But like, nothing about this storyline is something that isn't introduced later on in the books. Nor was it better or more interesting than the original lotus storyline in the books.

Again, its the constant replacement of everything fun and silly and absurd in the book and turning it into a very serious moment, is just like, killing the energy. Seriousness is good. Silliness is also good. The book balanced it greatly. The show struggles here.

Glad we got a Pan mention tho!! Finally!

But um 4 pearls, so no dilemma about who to save. A part of me is relieved because the show's created like 3 other sacrifice convo scenarios so its gotten bit reductive, but Sally being a part of the equation is an entirely different dynamic and now that dilemma is theoretically gone. (unless he loses one of the pearls?)

And Percy's missed the deadline?? Right?? So like? I really don't know what we're doing anymore. In the book the deadline was pretty strict lol. Here I guess the deadline was like, a loose suggestion? Percy's walking into the middle of the god's battle field with master bolt in his hand? Idk.

Overall things in the show feel messy and way less cohesive. They seem to know that certain things from the book are important but not necessarily why, or they'll introduce events or plot points strangely late or way too early.

Just watched the ballad of songbirds and snakes and omg I loved it so much it’s insane

The English nerd in me who read a disturbing amount of William Wordsworth at the age of 8 (literally have a memory box with my old copy which I destroyed with glitter pen “annotations”) absolutely LOVES Lucy gray being named Lucy gray and obviously all the references to the poems in the movie

More than that I love Lucy gray as a character too and I mean LOVE like literally that is my wife

Might be the post movie high but if you ask me rn what my favourite hunger games movie is it’s definitely this one like this one is making me want to read the books which I neglected to do for what 15 years😭😭(idk when the release was I’m just saying a random number)

God that ending hurt tho I love how they were somehow able to have the audience wish and hope for a different ending while full well knowing it’s a prequel like that takes an unimaginable level of skill to do, to have us root for snow and Lucy gray and have us genuinely be invested while knowing how it ends is just so cool

Chat GPT couldn’t write My Immortal

So the fun thing about Chat GPT is that is the worst writer I have ever interacted with, but it is bad in a special unique way that a full decade of over-involvement on a bad fanfic forum could not have prepared me for. I legitimately think My Immortal is better written in most ways (except technically obvs). Maybe I just hate the feeling of getting thru several paragraphs and realizing I’ve read basically nothing, idk, but at least My Immortal is interesting and sometimes things happen in it. I can’t even prompt Chat GPT into giving me outfit descriptions that are as good as Tara’s! I’ve tried! So for shits and giggles I prompted Chat GPT to write like Tara. The best part was I phrased it like a question so it responded with “OMG!!111 I can totally do that for you!” But overall it did a pretty shitty job. I thought I would share anyway.

Part I

First I tried to get it to describe a character’s outfit, as mentioned. It started okish but without and of the characteristic bad grammar and spelling errors:

So, like, his outfit was, like, so edgy and gothic, it was like a total masterpiece of dark fashion. His go-to look was a black turtleneck, which hugged his rock-hard bod in all the right ways,

Chat GPT loves to just fixate on one aspect of the prompt you give it, so it couldn’t help but regurgitate a phrase I used in the most awkward way it could:

And OMG, let's talk about his pants, or should I say "pant-adjacent abomination"? LOL!

But eventually it became less Tara and more like a parody of gen Z:

The fabric, in all its darkness, flowed and draped in this super cool way, embracing the curves and angles of his legs. It was like fashion magic, I tell you!

But the best part? The lower part of the pants had all these intricate pleats and folds. They, like, embraced his leg structure and gave his outfit this rebellious and avant-garde vibe.

It was a fashion statement that screamed, "I'm unique, I'm fierce, and I'm ready to kick some serious ass!

The fabric had this rad texture, adding that extra touch of awesomeness to his ensemble. It was a fusion of practicality and personal style, showing the world that Gargoyle was not just a badass protector but a fashion icon in his own right.

As if Tara would ever use the word “avant-garde”. Or “vibe” for that matter.

It did end with my favorite touch tho:

It was a style statement that only a true goth queen like him could pull off with such dark grace.

OK Chat GPT, you got me there. It’s still wrong, but I like it.

Part II

Next I gave it a completely different prompt from something I’ve been working on. This one is like one of those Korean webtoons where people die and get reincarnated as their younger selves but Chat GPT took a couple creative liberties (surprisingly rare, but always a delight):

Wretch woke up, feeling soooo goffik and angsty. He sat up in his bed, his long, black hair cascading around his pale face. He looked around the room, which was still a dark and brooding place, just like he left it. But something was off. He felt strange, like he was trapped in a bad fanfiction crossover. He touched his long, silky hair, shocked to find it was no longer jet black but now a shimmering shade of silver. "What the hell?" he muttered to himself, his voice deep and mysterious.

He got out of bed and stood in front of the mirror, his black eyeliner perfectly applied. He gasped when he saw his reflection. Staring back at him was a much younger version of himself, no older than 10 years old. His face was chubby and innocent, so different from his usual brooding and menacing appearance. "How the f*** did this happen?" he mumbled, running his fingers through his hair, which was no longer slicked back but loose and flowing.

I’m not sure why getting younger changed his hair color, but ok. The My Immortal-ness of it is so obviously surface level tho. IDK if it is as clear when you ask it to pretend to be Stephan King or whatever, but here is it pretty clear it’s only picking up on a couple key traits.

The weird thing about this one is it must be getting some of its information about how to write this from parodies because the meta “jokes” don’t stop coming:

The realization hit him like a poorly spelled Avada Kedavra.

Umm, excuse me, but Tara would never. One thing I will give it tho, its extremely awkward use of swears, especially from adult figures, is very good:

Wretch scowled at Valorous, his dark eyes narrowing. "I don't know what the f*** is happening, but Verity's here, and I need to find her. This could be our chance to finally end this endless war and... maybe even find love or some s***," he said, his voice laced with a hint of doubt.

Back to the art! it was all so... 3d... which is a bit of a redundant statement, considering that i watched the movie in 3d, BUT. it was so... lively ! they were all so animated (pun intentional)!! its such a UNIQUE artstyle and is so amazing and wonderful Ɛ>Ɛ>Ɛ>

im. i dont draw so i cant rly properly marvel at the wondrousness of the art, BUT AS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT ART??? ITS SO FUCKING PRETTY AND BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

oh and all the little connections and references and parallels to the other iterations of tmnt!!! their goofy-ass belts w their initials, splinter being like... was it 2003 splinter that was originally a rat instead of a human? OH the movie also kinda reminded me of bay tmnt in some ways! cant rly explain it... but there are connections to all the other shows and movies and its so cool ... (not pointing out any rise or 2012 connections because theyre just so INHERENT??? mm is, in a way, kinda like if rise were 2012. BUT ALSO NOT. but also, quickly going back to aprileo thing, i dont. im not into it. leo, i support your rights and wrongs, TRUST ME I DO, but. idk abt this one, man... i rly hope they dont make aprileo properly canon and april just rejects leo. tbf im not big on romance in general, but i rly do think of the turtles and april as being family. aprileo is just odd. as a kid we've always wanted to learn the violin tbh. But we have a core memory of being at a function,,, thing? for school? where someone had a violin and let kids try to play it and we tried and it was. Extremely confusing. ever since then we did Not want anything to do w the violin lmao FHCJXJXXJ

we also do not! we know we can sing green day songs in key pretty well and when singing our voice naturally goes pretty high though. We can also do an UwU Voice™ Very Very Well and we do that constantly to annoy our family HCFJDJFJF but idk if that says anything about what our range is!

We think Volta Do Mar is cool!! As a Skill we'd LOVE to know more about them but they're like just BARELY canon huh fudjdjsjskfjsjfjf we have a fictive of them though actually! They're apart of Kim's Skillset, The Lungs [all of whom barely ever front fudjsjdjffj]. our Volta takes the form of a flock of birds usually and she's just as mysterious and superstitious as Shivers is tho without the booming loud voice :3c

Honestly?? I think it's Aveline! First off, Aveline is the most competent in battle, and has already personally saved Tiller's ass so many times, which she is SO thankful for! Tiller knows Av is very strong, as well as cool under pressure so she knows she can always count on her. Also, Tiller believes the two of them have built up a lot of trust since the beginning of the adventure, and I think feeling so confident in Av's care for her is one of Tiller's greatest accomplishments! :") They've come so far!!

53. What is your character’s favorite spell? If they don’t use spells: what is their favorite personal weapon/combat maneuver/skill/etc.?

Very simple, but I think it's Water Breathing! She likes being able to be with all the sea life she loves so much, and she can bring friends along!

77. If your character had to multiclass into a class they currently aren’t the next time they level up, what would it be and what reason would they have for doing so?

Probably cleric! Tiller just met her mom who is a god, so I'm sure she's already developing some dynamic around her mom, and the religion that literally already exists around her. XD But I think she'd like going on small pilgrimages to find other sea dragon siblings in the future, and spread the word so to speak. And plus, she'd be a little more like Roy!

Ooooggghhh this is hard... I think Wizard. There's something about his confidence, self-assuredness, and laid back attitude that Sandra would fully trust him with Anything. Like if he says "hey brother, it's all gonna be okie dokie <|:)", like she'd believe that statement to be fact now. It IS all gonna be okie dokie.

53. What is your character’s favorite spell? If they don’t use spells: what is their favorite personal weapon/combat maneuver/skill/etc.?

I think Glyph of Warding. It's made Sandra a couple of friends the last couple of times she's used it, and she likes helping people! Also it has the ability to explode the target when triggered, and if that isn't the Sandra dichotomy, well :) Spell of Help Out My Friends And Also Fuck You

77. If your character had to multiclass into a class they currently aren’t the next time they level up, what would it be and what reason would they have for doing so?

Maybe Bard? That was my answer to one of Frenchy's questions, asking what she would do if she had a full class change. So many of her social skills and talents already overlap to bardic traits so I think it would mesh well with her whole attitude. She'd love to give better shows and throw bardic inspirations around lol! (I can also see Wizard tho... she IS studious)

Oh mannnn, Aubrey wouldn't trust any of you bitches, which works out well because if she loses her life, that's not a big deal for her. If I had to choose tho... probably Jeannine, cause who else is she gonna turn too except her toxic yuri situationship. Like "hi save me not because you care about me, but because I KNOW you're a phantom rogue and I'm gonna haunt your ass to hell and back if you don't"

Rogue, with the intention of building up to the Mastermind archetype. It's literally Manipulator The Class, lol so Aubrey would love it. I can see her getting frustrated with the "unwanted attention" and "consequences" that her undead warlock magic and maybe a little murder causes. So it's nice to have a plan A that's just "I tell you what I want and you give it to me". Lot easier on the clean-up. (Also with that Expertise, her Deception/Intimidation would be +14 so like... let's go girls)

i remember seeing that post going “breaking the 4th wall in musicals should never be done” and that immediately taking me out of the post since. well…done right, it can be a very effective device right? like i know most cases of that tend to be in things like movie and tv now but some musicals have used it very well (and like ive seen hamilton too. it was something i had no idea about until i saw it like. right there live like it was a good surprise to me and it kinda stays with you..)….like i think my favourite example is in (super heavy bias here) sweeney todd when during his big “everyone deserves to die” revelation song Epiphany, sweeney starts threatening members of the audience and i think its really effective..ive seen it live too, and having this character filled with hate and cynicism making direct eye contact with you, the audience member (who is supposed to have some degree of separation from the characters and all as witnesses to and not participants in their story), and gesturing to slit your throat is well. exactly what that is, effective and very creepy (the target vibe! really cool execution!) ….um. so i do not agree with that one persons particular statement in that one post very much…

The musical to idol franchise pipeline is real we're living proof of it (it's a pipeline that makes sense tho im sure it must be common. Right?) Anyway you get ittt im pretty sure i reblogged that post a few days ago Just to bitch in the tags but it wasnt enough, im glad we're all haters tho. All their credibility was lost when they said that.

Anyway i wishhhh to see sweeney todd in person one day omg that sounds so good, ive only seen the film </3 very sad. Breaking the 4th wall is done a lot more than people think. It's not always good but it definitely doesnt take away from the immersion or seriousness of a musical as that person said...maybe im just biased because i love stories that involve you as the audience in some way, where you reflect on your position in relation to the characters

First Impressions: honestly his design doesn’t really appeal to me. my friend said he looked like a TWST chara but honestly i can’t see it based off what I know about that game. also his name makes me think of betel nuts. that said i like the little skits he did for his pre-debut vids.

Debut: he has a very… “bro-ish” voice lol. also he’s talking really fast. idk if it’s bc of the nerves or not. pulling out the slide out of his hat was very creative ngl. betel nut man confirmed. idk what to make of his comedy, it’s good but not really to my taste. he’s really loud so i probably wont watch him much or my ears may explode. mascot is cute tho ig. purple likers based. also… this guy laughs at his own jokes? at least he loves himself so good ig? actually nvm he doesn’t RIP. fuck cockroaches tho. he plans to do drinking streams? oh god i can’t imagine how chaotic he’ll be on alcohol. also he can’t cook?! dear lord. omg that catwalk is pretty af. also his design has grown on me, bro jumped out of an otome LMAO.

First Impressions: he looks like a tiny little apple 🍎. baby boy, baby (or is he? i didn’t follow these guys on twt so i wouldn’t know). but lmao at that edgy-ass name 🖤🥀⛓. then again one of my oshis also has a chuuni name (but its in japanese so my monolingual ass can ignore it kek) so i can’t really judge. it seems the name was chosen to fit with the design as it is more overt abt the sci-fi stuff than all the others. friend said he looked like an edgy und3rt4le oc and while i get the edgy oc part i don’t get the und3rt4le part. his skits were frankly amazing and i don’t think anyone can top them.

Debut: that intro screen is so cute oml. also the logo bounces around like a tv on standby thats really neat! music is cool too! omg he did a “behhh” i like him alr! his lore video was nice and funny too. if im not mistaken he’s the first tempus member to have a dedicated lore vid right? now that i’m hearing his natural voice it sounds really pleasant! must protecc. i may be shorter but im calling him short anyways for lols. he looks cute when he’s angry www. his layouts are pr creative i love this man. he screams loud but its okay he is babi. vegetable dislikers are based and no one can tell me otherwise. if this is him at low energy, how would he be at high energy? headpats tskr. outro is cool.

Banzoin Hakka

First Impressions: pretty boy. purple is my favorite color + most of my oshis are associated with blue so his indigo color just makes me mesmerized. and because of that it would be funny if his voice was deep as hell. my friend said he looked like a jenshin chara and while i do understand that bc jenshin is many people’s first exposure to this kind of fashion… okay yeah he kinda does look like a jenshin chara. instant roll lmao.

Debut: his intro is pretty dope, especially with the music. omg he can do metal screams?!? his voice isn’t deep as hell but its still not what i expected. weirdly enough it still fits. i really like his sense of humor the most so far. he talks at an average speed to me but ppl have said i talk fast so im probably not the best judge i retract my statement he actually does talk fast. OMG A VOCALOID FAN B A S E D. i think i can hear an accent, a pretty thick one at that. yknow what, shinri has competition when it comes to who’ll get demonetized first. my boy drawing with ms paint lmao. probably gonna become my oshi for this wave (?).

Josuji Shinri

First Impressions: the boing boings are on full display. pec nation has won. now we must prepare for the ultimate battle, the battle against demonetization. jokes aside his design is kinda generic imo but if it works it works. also he actually looks slightly older than everyone else so thats a plus. friend said he looked like a himbo and tbh i get that. but from what ik he doesn’t seem like one so far? he’s giving off more “father figure” vibes to me.

Debut: the intro bgm is chill which makes me hope he’ll be chill too. holy shit his voice is really deep, like probably the deepest out of the vtubers i’ve seen so far. i think his laugh is cute. so far the chillest of them all, which admittedly isn’t a hard bar to clear. i do appreciate the simpler debut this time, the other guys production values and ideas were good but this one will definitely age gracefully. daddy (platonic). mans has his priorities in order. the little JRPG section was neat, my friend called it when they said “jrpg vibes”. yet another league player, nobody is perfect. probably won’t watch him much if he goes ahead with the horror stuff bc its not my genre but i appreciate him carving out a little niche for himself.

OVERALL:

I like most of them, but I’m worried the group dynamic may be a bit unbalanced this time around. We got three loud guys and one chill dude, which will be an… interesting combo. These guys seem to have lots of cool ideas and potential, so I would be interested in seeing how they could improve. 8/10 stars, mostly enjoyed the relay.
