Random bsd light novel quotes I’ve written down. The untold origins of the detective agency addition.
“You may call me Mushy Brains.”
“Yeah, I don’t know how I feel about mutilating living people with a hatchet…”
“Grilled crab is the greatest treasure of this world,”
“I’m offended. I would never be so deceptive. Surely my colleague Kunikida trusts me, right?” Dazai spread his arms wide, claiming innocence. “Nope,” replied Kunikida. “Sorry, I don’t trust you, either…,” added Tanizaki. “Never believed anyone less,” said Yosano.
“Hooray!” Cheered Dazai. “I’m not paying for you.”
This brief tale is a record of one man’s struggle, of his growth — and of parenting.
A thought crossed Fukuzawa’s mind: ‘maybe I ought to just toss him into the ocean.’
Three times Fukuzawa told Ranpo to quiet down as he whined for candy. Twice, Ranpo wore down Fukuzawa’s patience until he caved.
Four times, Fukuzawa convinced Ranpo to keep walking when he complained his legs were tired. Four times Fukuzawa carried Ranpo on his back.
Fukuzawa quietly came up with fifty ways to get rid of Ranpo and go home, but all events solely took place in his mind.
“Why can’t we just say how we really feel instead of hiding it.”
He had to save Ranpo… because Ranpo was an idiot.

Parallels between Oda and Fukuzawa
while working on my Fukuzawa analysis I realised how incredibly closely him and Odasaku resemble each other.
They are both former top class assassins who could kill effortlessly and without any emotion.
They both had a realisation that their lifestyle was unfulfilling and dangerous, so decided to give up killing.
They both meet a child with super intelligence that caused them immense suffering and isolation. and decide to take care of them against their better judgment.
They both feel unqualified for helping Dazai/Ranpo and frequently feel like they don't know what to say but still end up saying the exact right thing.
They both tell a lie too try and convince the child that they should not give up on the world (Oda saying Dazai has to vist 'That place' in TDIPUD) (Fukuzawa with the idea of Ranpo being a skill user)
They are both incredibly non judgemental and always respect others input and authority with neither of them have any ego.
They have very similar internal monologues in their books.
And finally the obvious one is that they both greatly admire Natsume who helped them build their own future.
Despite all of this, they still feel like completely separate character and don't end up feeling repetitive since there similarities are subtle and never directly addressed. Most shows would probaly just make them carbon copies and call it a day but bsd always goes deeper with its important characters.
