did you know that the Insulandian Phasmid quotes from the bible? I got curious if looking at the context of the bible quote would add anything to the interpretation of this scene, and maybe there are some parallels. Meeting the phasmid is like a revelation, just like how in that part of the bible god talks to Isaiah. (I can't belive im reading the bible out of all things for a video game lmao. god damn it.) yeah yeah maybe it's not supposed to mean anything other than the phasmid loves this world but it can be fun to look into it. maybe it is that deep
think of this as more of a web weaving post
You - I exist too. Insulindian Phasmid - Tell me what it's like for you. You - It's *wunderbar*. Insulindian Phasmid - Yes, holy is the lord of hosts. And all the Earth is filled with his glory.
Isaiah 6 BSB
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robea filled the temple.
Encyclopedia - (..)An Innocence is a continuous, compressed event, a sacred human being. It is an honour and a glory to live when one is in office. You - Is one in office now? Encyclopedia - No. We are alone.
Insulindian Phasmid - You are a violent and irrepressible miracle. The vacuum of cosmos and the stars burning in it are afraid of you. Given enough time you would wipe us all out and replace us with nothing -- just by accident. (...) You - Have I always thought this way? Insulindian Phasmid - No -- you're only thinking it *now*. This is a revelation.
Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling out to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke.
In Hebrew, the word saraph means "burning"
Insulindian Phasmid - Tell me what it's like for you. You - Fire, burning.
Insulindian Phasmid - You were right. Little bubbles form on the mouthparts of the creature -- on its segmented lower lip. It looks to be foaming, slowly. The foam is white, then yellowish... Perception (Smell) - The faintest smell, like you've never felt before. Like burnt roses.
Insulindian Phasmid - The foam slowly turns a darker shade, like burnt caramel -- as the insect moves its mouthparts, masticating. The little bubbles begin to burst, one by one... Perception (Smell) - Letting out that same smell, like summer burning.
Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.” (..)
The Deserter - "I've seen the *real world*. In '06. The flags unfolding. Young people marching, being kind to each other. They dreamt of a million years in the stars. This here..." He looks down at the ashes. "Is pale in waiting."
The Deserter - "Straight to Yekokataa for this old revisionist." He gives you a little nod. "At last -- atonement for my sins: revisionism, reactionary ideation, desertion..."
The Deserter - "The material base for an uprising has eroded." He nods and blinks his black eyes. "The working class has betrayed mankind and themselves..."
(? maybe? idk.)
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And with it he touched my mouth and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is atoned for.”
maybe this one is a stretch (like the others too lol)
You - Lick your finger. Interfacing - It tastes like... sugar. Very faint. The arthropod towers above you, tufts of reeds pointing from limb and head alike. Perception (Taste) - Odourless, mostly comprised of water.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!” And He replied: “Go and tell this people, ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the hearts of this people calloused; deafen their ears and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” Then I asked: “How long, O Lord?” And He replied: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left unoccupied and the land is desolate and ravaged, until the LORD has driven men far away and the land is utterly forsaken. And though a tenth remains in the land, it will be burned again. As the terebinth and oak leave stumps when felled, so the holy seed will be a stump in the land.”
Insulindian Phasmid - Everything your eyes touch goes back there -- behind the nerve mirror. What if you blink? Are we still here? (Please don't blink). What if you misplace us all one day -- or just forget? You - Have I always thought this way? Insulindian Phasmid - No -- you're only thinking it *now*. This is a revelation. You - This is the Gloaming I've been waiting for. Ever since I woke up in the hotel room.
Man with Sunglasses - "About *what?* You don't look like a cop..." He inspects you. "You know what you look like?" You - "Like a prophet?" Man with Sunglasses - "Not the prophet shit again..." He looks away.
Evrart Claire - "It says..." He looks in the folder. "Oh yes... very interesting. It says you're more like a mad prophet than a cop. Always rambling about the end of the world... I'm sure these stories are exaggerated."
Cop of the apocalypse (early version from the game files):
Tumblr media
or perhaps
Rhetoric - You -- against the atom, the charm and the spin. Where the whole world failed -- matter failed to bend to human will; human will failed to get out of bed and tie its laces -- you alone, single-handedly, will rebuild the dreams of the working class. You are The Last Communist.
well regardless, the quote is another instance of christian symbolism in elysium

I’ve been thinking about tommy and Oliver’s friendship a LOT lately (probably because I just posted an edit to Instagram about Tommy’s death and started writing a half baked thought in my drafts.) and I was wondering if you had any headcanons about their friendship?
sorry this took a while, i was in horror mode! ik i have proudly cultivated arrowverse freaks but if anyone wants to send me horror asks too,,,,,,, yknow 👀
OKAY PLATONIC TOLIVER TIME !!
Tumblr media
i think i've said in the past that i didn't really fuck w toliver but i meant it as an exclusively romantic ship, they r so important as a brotp
oliver vowed to never kill again after tommy died, that's canon. but we know he had to break that rule. so, the first time oliver took another life after he couldn't save tommy's? he practically drowned himself in what used to be tommy's favorite wine.
ik tommy told oliver that he was better off not knowing what twilight is. but they totally watched the movies sometime after that.
i think it would be sweet if they measured each other's heights as they grew up in ink on the wall, but did everything they could to hide that part of the wall from moira and robert so it wouldn't be cleaned off, so they just have these sloppy little notes in sharpie hidden behind a painting in the queen house. their boyhood friendship is forever ingrained within oliver's house and no one will ever know. it's a secret they took to the grave
i just love how casually affectionate they are. we know oliver has issues with touch, but he always hugs tommy. they just grew up so close that i don't think touching tommy would even really register as something oliver could be averse to. it just feels like the most normal, natural thing, he's already so conditioned to it
listen okay listen. i don't ship them romo style but i do not see oliver as straight and i do know that if ollie was struggling with his sexuality and getting bicurious with it as a young adult pre-gambit, tommy is the only guy he would trust enough to do anything with
Tumblr media
we KNOWW that tommy wanted a pup as a wee boy and i think oliver would've been one second away from buying it for him at all times but the queens wouldn't allow it bc of how often tommy was over, the dog would've just became their responsibility instead of that of the merlyns
oliver has had to watch a tommy die three different times. earth-1, earth-x and earth-2. not even counting hallucination tommy. do you think about that? i think about that.
AND THEN- AND THEN OLLIE GETS W A PROUD JEWISH GIRL. AND THE NUMBER 3 IS DOING SOME SHIT IN JUDAISM;
Tumblr media
"3 - the unity between two extremes" i cant even like communicate what the fuck that means to me but LISTEN OKAY LISTEN. jewish people are instructed to ask for forgiveness thrice; even if they're not forgiven, the one in the wrongdoing is believed to be atoned. DO YOU GET IT. MAYBE ISAIAH 6:1-6:3 WILL HELP
"In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphim; each one had six wings: with twain he covered his face and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one called unto another, and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory." the angels said holy three times and the word twain is a term for two, like a duo, and tommy's rotting into the ground six feet under and oliver watched his oldest friend die three separate times. DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY VISIONS.
tommy and oliver might be christmas enjoyers but that doesn't mean i can't get them w jewish imagery and symbolism okay, felicity's jewish and a talker so i think it's plausible she would've laid this all out for ollie too
during oliver's lost years, do you think tommy ever looked out at the beaches of their home port city and couldn't help but wonder if his best friend was truly down there. do you think he smelled sea salt and thought of running through the queen halls with oliver behind him. that he saw oliver's blue eyes in sea shells along the sand, that he saw the sand itself and thought of oliver's hair. do you think he ever reached into the coldness of the water and it felt almost like home bc those waters and that coldness was supposed to be oliver's home now. sniffles
THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY FOR NOW I HOPE THIS IS DECENTLY COHERENT ❤️❤️❤️

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Isaiah 6:1
Here's a time of crisis. The king has just died. The throne is empty. But what does Isaiah do? He seeks the Lord. He sees the Lord, seated on the throne. High and exalted. The world around us may seem to fall apart. Everything may seem hopeless and bleak. But we fail to realise that God is still on the throne. He's in absolute control of the universe. He's in absolute control of your situation and mine. Be encouraged. He knows what He's doing. We don't have to be anxious about anything, because God is on the throne and we belong to Him!

Devotional Hours Within the Bible
Tumblr media
by J.R. Miller
Isaiah's Call to Service (Isaiah 6:1-13)
Isaiah knew the very day and hour when he saw this wonderful vision. It was in the year that king Uzziah died. The vision had made such an impression on his mind that he never could forget it. It had meant so much to him as an experience, that he could never cease to look back to the day as his spiritual birthday.
That was a memorable year. Uzziah was one of the greatest of Judah’s kings. He had reigned fifty years with high honor, and then suddenly he was smitten with leprosy. He had gone into the temple and attempted with his own hands to burn incense. On his forehead appeared at once the white spot which was the mark of divine judgment, and the king was thrust out and dwelt in a leper house until his death. The year in which king Uzziah died, was therefore more than a date. That was the year of Isaiah’s vision .
There are one or two dates in nearly every earnest life, which are always remembered. Sometimes it is a loss or a sorrow which has made its indelible record. Sometimes it is the coming of a great joy into the heart the first meeting with a new friend, for example. Sometimes it is the day when Christ was revealed too the heart. We may be very sure that Andrew and John never forgot the day when they first saw Jesus and when He took them to His own lodgings for a long talk. It is good for us to keep records of the great days in our life.
The prophet in his vision, saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up. It is a great thing when such a vision as this fills one’s life. Too often it is this world which most largely blocks the soul’s view. Men see visions of wealth, power, fame, or pleasure but see not a gleam of heaven nor a hint of the shining of God’s face. But earthly visions do not exalt our life. They make us no better. When we have visions like Isaiah’s, in which God fills all our field of view we are lifted up in spirit, in character, in hope and joy. One who sees God is never the same man afterwards. He is set apart now for holy life and service. He is dominated ever after by a new influence. He has seen God he must therefore be holy; he must walk softly and reverently; he must be true to God.
There is something unusual and very impressive in the description of the seraphim in this vision. “Each one had six wings!” Wings are for flight it is the mission of angelic beings to fly on God’s errands. The six wings would seem to signify special readiness to do God’s will. But they suggest here, more than their normal use to fly.
The modern Christian would probably use them all for flying and would be intensely active. We live in an age when everything inspires to activity. We are apt to run, perhaps too greatly, with our ‘wings’.
But we should notice that two of the seraphim’s wings were used in covering his face when before God teaching reverence. Two of them also were used in covering his feet humility. The other two were used in flying activity. Reverence and humility are quite as important qualities in God’s service as activity!
The song of the seraphim, as they veiled their faces and covered their feet, indicated praise, worship. One choir sang, “Holy, holy, holy, is Almighty Jehovah!” and the other responded, “The whole earth is full of His glory!” What we owe to God always is holiness, for everywhere is His glory. Yet many people never see any of God’s glory in the earth. They think of glory as something bright and dazzling, like the burning bush, the pillar of fire, or the transfiguration. But there is as much glory in a tree laden with sweet blossoms as there was in the flaming bush at Horeb; and as much glory in a face shining brightly with love as there was in Stephen’s. We read of Christ’s first miracle that He thus “manifested His glory.” It was the glory of kindness and helpfulness which this miracle showed. Everywhere God’s glory shines in all nature and in all true Christian living, in lowly homes where prayer is offered.
The prophet stood now face to face with God, and the effect on him was a sense of his own sinfulness. “Then said I: Woe is me I for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips! For my eyes have seen the King, Almighty Jehovah!” We do not know our own unworthiness until we have had a glimpse of God. In the light of the divine holiness we see our own unholiness!
One of the most remarkable incidents in the Gospels, is that in which Peter begged Jesus to depart from him. It was after a great miracle. Peter was awed by the manifestations of power in Jesus. Only a divine being could do such work. The effect on him was that he shrank away from the presence of such a holy being! He was not worthy to stand before Christ. “Depart from me for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” When the light of God’s face shines into our heart we see how unworthy we are. All pride and self-conceit vanish when we stand in the presence of the divine glory.
The mercy of God is ever instant in its response to human penitence and confession. “Then one of the seraphim flew unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar; and he touched my mouth with it, and said: Lo, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin forgiven!” The act of bringing the coal and touching the prophet’s lips, was very suggestive. The altar was the place of sacrifice. It was holy fire that burned there. All this must be kept in mind as we think of the meaning of this act. Not any common coal of fire would have done. It represented fire from heaven, the fire of the Holy Spirit. As the coal touched the lips of the prophet they were made pure and clean.
No sooner had the prophet’s lips been cleansed than the call for service came. “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” God is always wanting errand - runners. Angels fly swiftly and eagerly. There is not an angel in glory, who would not gladly come to earth on any mission, however lowly.
A legend tells of one of the highest angels sent to earth one day with two commissions to deliver a king from the power of some temptation; and to help a little struggling ant home with its burden of food. The latter errand was done just as dutifully and joyously by the great angel as the former. But God wants men as well as angels for messengers in this world. He is always asking this question, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

OKAY WE'RE SO BACKKK SO BACK OH MY GODDD
They put his old halo design as a pattern on the back of his coat :D
Also he now officially has 6 wings , 2 on his head and 4 on his back ;; I am so happy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also on his clothes he has 12 eyes + 2 of his actual eyes (There might also be eyes on his rings but I cannot tell due the quality of the picture sadly ;;
Once again I am Atheist, I get this knowledge from things I was taught but this may not be completely correct so feel free to correct me :)
When drawing biblically accurate angels they usually give them a lot of eyes. But, it isn't specifically mentioned for Seraphims:
Isaiah 6:1-8 MSG
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Master sitting on a throne—high, exalted!—and the train of his robes filled the Temple. Angel-seraphs hovered above him, each with six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two their feet, and with two they flew. And they called back and forth one to the other, Holy, Holy, Holy is GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies. His bright glory fills the whole earth. The foundations trembled at the sound of the angel voices, and then the whole house filled with smoke. I said, “Doom! It’s Doomsday! I’m as good as dead! Every word I’ve ever spoken is tainted— blasphemous even! And the people I live with talk the same way, using words that corrupt and desecrate. And here I’ve looked God in the face! The King! GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies!” Then one of the angel-seraphs flew to me. He held a live coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with the coal and said, “Look. This coal has touched your lips. Gone your guilt, your sins wiped out.” And then I heard the voice of the Master: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” I spoke up, “I’ll go. Send me!”
I think, when people refer to the angel with a lot of eyes they refer to Ezekiel 1. Ezekiel 1 is the first chapter of the Book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament of the Bible. The Book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book, and it contains visions and prophecies from the prophet Ezekiel, who was a priest and a captive in Babylon. In here he described something called the Ophanim (AKA auphanim, ofanim or galgalim). The ophanim refer to the wheels seen in Ezekiel's vision of the chariot in Ezekiel 1:15-21. One of the Dead Sea scrolls construes them as angels but in the Book of Enoch they are a class of celestial beings who along with the Cherubim and Serpahim never sleep and guard the throne of God. In Christian angelology, they are one of the choirs of angels, and are also called Thrones (Wikipedia contributors, 2023).
These "wheels" have been associated with Daniel 7:9 (mentioned as galgal, traditionally "the wheels of galgallin", in "fiery flame" and "burning fire") of the four, eye-covered wheels (each composed of two nested wheels), that move next to the winged Cherubim, beneath the throne of God. The four wheels move with the Cherubim because the spirit of the Cherubim is in them. The late Second Book of Enoch (20:1, 21:1) also referred to them as the "many-eyed ones". - Wikipedia
Nowadays the many eyes also get put into many other designs that have anything celestial / angel-like which is honestly so cool :') I love it.

thanks! I guess my main question is; how can I be secure in my faith?
I was raised in the faith and I wish I could believe firmly with all my heart, but university (I study biomed) and the world's view of religion make it so hard. I've seen others say that genesis is allegory, which brings into question the historicity of the Bible and Jesus, and I don't know how that can reconcile with faith
Ooh! This is my favorite question :)
So I too was raised in the faith and I too study biology (microbiology in my case, with an emphasis on microbial ecology and evolution). I am firmly convinced that one should hold both Scriptural and scientific truth in high regard; when undertaken with a spirit of curiosity and humility, science and faith pose no threat to one another. In fact, I think understanding one bolsters an understanding of the other.
I'd start with this: I don't believe that Genesis is an allegory, nor do any of the theistic evolution proponents I've read and spoken to. Rather, Genesis uses figurative language to communicate creation and the fall from the perspective of a God who transcends time. Figurative language is innate in Scripture, and I think it's erroneous to take the most literalistic possible meaning for every line of the creation account. For what other part of Scripture do we do this?
I think we need to take it seriously; everything in Scripture is true. But I think when the creation account says, "And God separated the light from the darkness. He called the light Day and the darkness Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day," that's more similar to "I have been crucified with Christ" than "In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord." From a heavenly perspective, that's what happened, but just as I haven't literally had nails driven into my hands in order to be saved, I don't think it's reasonable to assume that God divided Day from Night in the space of one 24-hour day. It's a spiritual account, not a scientific account. That doesn't make the words of Scripture any less true.
But! I also think that when Christians discuss evolution, we tend to get far, far too hung up on Genesis and we end up missing some of the deeper implications of the conversation. Evolutionary biology pushes us to think about our embodiment and how deeply interconnected we are with the rest of creation. Likewise, a theistic framework narrows the odds when we talk about the organic origin of life, protein sequence space, etc. If a sovereign God was behind every movement of every atom, then we can see grace where an atheistic scientist sees only coincidence.
Don't ignore your scientific and historical questions, my friend. Ask them all. Chase them to the ends of the earth. All truth is God's truth, and behind each answer I believe you will find the glory of God.
Some reading to get you started:
Finding Darwin's God, Kenneth R. Miller
The Selfless Gene: Living with God and Darwin, Charles Foster
Ask the Beasts: Darwin and the God of Love, Elizabeth Johnson
The Age of Wonder, Richard Holmes
(Note: I don't agree with every word in all these books, but I find them all generally good and useful)
Just in general, I really recommend reading up on all those great Christians who were also scientists and great scientists who were also Christians. Don't take my word for it, take theirs! Read the books I recommended. Read Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, Louis Pastuer! Augustine and C.S. Lewis! Stop centering the conversation on Darwin (who was a Christian, but who was just one guy). For goodness sake, don't listen to Richard Dawkins and Ken Ham. Throughout history, greater thinkers than you or me have reconciled faith and science. Thus, there's hope for us too :)
I'll leave you with this quote from Augustine's exhortation to humility from "The Literal Meaning of Genesis":
"In matters that are so obscure and far beyond our vision, we find in Holy Scripture passages which can be interpreted in very different ways without prejudice to the faith we have received. In such cases, we should not rush in headlong and so firmly take our stand that, if further progress in the search of truth justly undermines this position, we too fall with it. That would be to battle not for the teaching of Holy Scripture but for our own, wishing its teaching to conform to ours, whereas we ought to wish ours to conform to that of Sacred Scripture."
All truth is God's truth.

Mekhashepha in Melungeon Culture: Breaking it Down
In order to understand Mekhashepha and its ties to Melungeoninity you must first understand some history.  In recent years there has been a lot of push back against cultural Melungeons sharing their traditional culture and practices, with new age Melungeons demonizing and invalidating Melungeon culture in search of something more “mystical” in the form of appropriating Indigenous tribes form which they have no proof of claim. It is no secret that this denial and invalidation is rooted in antisemitism, and denial of Hebrew Melungeons.  It is undeniable that Melungeon (and Appalachian) people have Hebrew influence, whether this influence is ethnic, cultural, religious, or both varies per family.  This can be substantiated by looking at many common Melungeon names (and old Appalachian names), surnames, dialect, and traditions. Examples can be seen in the common Melungeon surname Cohen>Cowen>Gowen>Goin/Goins as well as common Melungeon given names such as Mahala, Nehemiah, Keziah, Hezekiah, Uzziah, Etc.  Melungeon people also have undeniable ties to Spain/Portugal this can also be substantiated by things like surnames (chavis/chavez), traditions, dialect, Oral History, and DNA. Mekhashepha is an ancient Hebrew word, it has been in use since before we existed as Melungeon people, however in the early 1900′s a man named Eliezer Ben Yeuhda, a lexicographer, created the first Hebrew English dictionary, becoming a driving force in the revival of the Hebrew Language, giving terms like Mekhashepha a resurgence, even if temporary at best. Many words coined by Yehuda became part of everyday Hebrew language while others died out or never caught on. The ancient origins of Melungeon people remains unconfirmed today, but it was once a common rumor among colonizers that Melungeon people were born of an affair between The Devil and an Indigenous Woman. This is important to note because this is likely in part why the term Mekhashepha was weaponized against our people. Though Melungeon people are not specifically mentioned, the book “ Religious Authority in the Spanish Renaissance “ by LuAnn Homza notes Nicholas De Lyra’s use of the Onkelos Targum when translating the term Mekhashepha to refer to a female soothsayer, sorceress, or witch, with carnal ties to the Devil.  Mekhashepha originally tended to refer to a title, usually that of a female, and not the name of their religious or spiritual practice, though today, following Yehuda’s dictionary, it seems to be used interchangeably. In the Torah and the Old Testament, the Mekhashepha are also included with "necromancers", "those who cast spells", "those who summon spirits" etc., as "an abomination to Yahweh" in Deuteronomy 18:9-10.  Mekhashepha does however have controversial translations as many scholars debate it may refer to an herbalist, healer, poisoner, or even pharmacist.  In some translations it is said Mekhashepha may be relied on to heal the sick, foretell the future, and predict agricultural outcomes. These are all things that were tied to Melungeon folk and traditional beliefs as well and can be seen still today in practices like faith healing, the man of signs, reading cards, using blood beads, folk remedies, etc. Due to the negative associations between Mekhashepha and Satan, many Melungeon people were not enthusiastic about identifying with the term, however neither were they about identifying as Melungeon.  In recent, with the rise of popularity in witchcraft, natural healing, cultural acceptance, and feminism, many Melungeons have made the decision to reclaim these terms and wear them and identify with them proudly, while others still feel uncomfortably with these terms. First Reading Isaiah 25:6-10a The Lord invites us to his feast and will wipe away the tears from all faces.
On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples A feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines. On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples, The web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces; The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken. On that day it will be said:
“Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! This is the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!” For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6
R/ I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; Beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul.
R/ I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side With your rod and your staff that give me courage.
R/ I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
R/ I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come.
R/ I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
Gospel Acclamation Isaiah 33:22
Alleluia, alleluia. Behold, the Lord comes to save his people; blessed are those prepared to meet him. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 15:29-37 Jesus heals many and multiplies the bread.
At that time: Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain, and sat down there. Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them. The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.
Jesus summoned his disciples and said, “My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way.” The disciples said to him, “Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?” Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” “Seven,” they replied, “and a few fish.” He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets full.

First Reading Isaiah 6:1-8 Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?
In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft.
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!” they cried, one to the other. “All the earth is filled with his glory!” At the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke. Then I said, “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember which he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it and said, “See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am,” I said; “send me!”
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 40:2 and 4, 7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 11
R/ Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
I have waited, waited for the LORD, and he stooped toward me and heard my cry. And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God.
R/ Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me. Burnt offerings or sin-offerings you sought not; then said I, “Behold I come.”
R/ Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me, To do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!”
R/ Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.
R/ Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Your justice I kept not hid within my heart; your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of; I have made no secret of your kindness and your truth in the vast assembly.
R/ Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
Gospel Acclamation Luke 4:18
Alleluia, alleluia. The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor and to proclaim liberty to captives. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Luke 10:1-9 The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.
The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’ If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.’”

HOLINESS, THE ESSENCE OF GOD!
HOLINESS, THE ESSENCE OF GOD
1 Peter 1:15

Essence is the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, which determines its character. Holiness is the intrinsic nature of God; the indispensable quality that determines God’s character. His total being. Holiness can evoke both reverence and unease.
God’s character never changes according to James 1:17, because God is completely perfect and holy. God’s holiness refers to an unparalleled majesty and He’s incomparably blameless, faultless, unblemished moral purity. Holy also refers to something or someone that has been separated from the common or set aside for God’s use.
Holiness is the essence of God! Hebrews 7:26 declares that Christ is the kind of high priest we need because He is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honour in heaven. Christ is completely holy because he is completely free from sin. God is separate from sin and evil. He is perfect and has no sin in Him.
We, as Christ followers, must therefore be holy to serve a holy God. Holiness is the chief attribute of God and a quality to be developed in His followers. Holiness and the adjective holy occur many times in the Bible.
Isaiah 6:1-5 puts God’s holiness in perspective, “In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’ And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: ‘Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’”
There is no human on the surface of the earth that can fit this mould. None! Only God is the Holy of holies.
Yet, it’s one aspect of God that the church does not promote. They seem to go as far from holiness as they can but Hebrews 12:14 says we can’t see God without holiness - no wonder there’s so much immorality and impurity in Christendom today. Holiness should be part of the faithful endurance that is encouraged throughout Christianity.
The story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-16 and 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 should always remind us that we deal with a God so pure that not even our “spirituality” and “religiosity” can please Him. The church of God has gone far from holiness to extreme vulgarity, blasphemy, immorality and heresy - so far from the Holy God they are meant to represent. God is dazzling and glorious in His absolute purity. His holiness is so glorious it fills heaven and is reflected in nature on earth as stated in Isaiah 63:13 and can’t be compared to what is offered today in churches as acceptable holiness.
Holiness is God’s essence; we cannot separate Him from it much as we try, and that holiness should caution us about what we accept and practice from the contemporary church growth movement going on today. The appropriate response to the holiness of God is reverential fear (reverence), and the outworking of that fear is obedience. Holiness and the fear it should produce in our hearts, would and should lead us to reverence God’s sovereignty and majesty. The fear of the Lord is the result of understanding God’s holiness. Fear is the beginning of knowledge according to Proverbs 1:7, which causes us to hate and to avoid evil according to Proverbs 8:13, and 16:6.
Be holy, just as your Father is holy! All who believe in Jesus Christ are made holy by the holy God.
PRAYER: Holy God, help me to walk in holiness and allow your holiness to govern my thinking and self-esteem in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Shalom

Isaiah's Vision of the Lord in His Glory
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphim: each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he did fly.
3 And one cried to another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the middle of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: 7And he laid it on my mouth, and said, See, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.
Isaiah's Commission
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear you indeed, but understand not; and see you indeed, but perceive not.
10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the middle of the land.
13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof. — Isaiah 6 | American King James Version (KJVUS) The American King James Version is Produced by Stone Engelbrite. God Is Still Seated On His Throne
Today's Saying
Many times in life, we find ourselves living on stale bread when what we really need is a fresh view… a revival view… of God.
Today's Scripture
In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Isaiah 6:1
Today's Sermonette
I know how it goes. So many times in life, we find ourselves living on stale bread when what we really need is a fresh view… a revival view… of God.
We see evidence of this kind of revival in the life of the Old Testament prophet named Isaiah.  Here’s what Isaiah 6:1 says,
In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.
Now, you have to understand that King Uzziah’s death caused great despair among the people of Israel.  You see, he was the king who had brought them a long way… and the nation had made some great progress under his leadership.
So when he died, so, too, did the dreams of his people.  Hopes were dashed, security was shaken, and stability was eroded because of his death.  In other words, it was a bad year!
And maybe today, as we ease into a New Year, you’d have to admit that it’s been a bad year for you.  Perhaps some of your dreams have died. Maybe some of your desires have been put on hold. And today, you’d just have to say, “It’s not been a good year!”
But here’s the good news that Isaiah learned in the midst of a very bad year:
Even when things aren’t working out on earth, heaven is still in charge.  Even when the king has died, God is still seated on His throne.
One of the preeminent doctrines that you and I can never lose sight of if we want to understand and experience God anew is His sovereignty.
The sovereignty of God means that nothing gets to you before it comes through His fingers first. God is in charge.
The sovereignty of God means that He is ultimately calling the shots.
That’s why the stuff on earth can never be allowed to have the last word in your situation.
No matter how bleak things may look… how bad things may look… or how dead things may look… they can never have the last word.  Why?  Because while a king may die, the King is fine!
Today's Supplication
Father, thanks for Your sovereignty, my God, meaning that nothing gets to me without it coming through Your fingers first - You are in charge and ultimately calling the shots. This gives me hope for tomorrow. Amen!
