the realization that sydney would come over soon had the musician steadily tidying his cozy toronto apartment for the past several days. typically a tad on the messy side, shawn had dedicated a good bit of time to organizing odds ‘n ends and corralling all the different articles of clothing that’d been discarded in various locations around his place. as the time crept closer, he couldn’t help but grow more anxious -- that sort of bubbly uncertainty for what the day might hold until it all came spilling over with the most thoughtful array of gifts. one of the highest ones, of course, was time with tarzan. though the breakup was mutual-ish, the separation from the dog certainly was not, and shawn had found himself missing the pup terribly. the effort that sydney had gone through to not only arrange a couple days a month with his dog but to also have had to talk to his ex-girlfriend to arrange it... she really was something out of a dream sequence -- he figured any day now, he’d be waking up.

one of the culminating stops had taken them to a restaurant for dinner, again arranged by none other than sydney herself. shawn sat across from her at their elegant table for two, soaking in the sight of his girlfriend as her every feature seemed to shimmer underneath the soft lighting that was probably wholeheartedly responsible for the establishment’s ambiance. “thank you for doing all of this for me, baby,” shawn spoke, one hand reaching across the linen tablecloth to take one of hers in his own. “you really did make this birthday one of the best i’ve ever had, if not the best.” and it was true ---- while most of his birthdays had been lovely, none compared to sydney’s elaborate display of thoughtful affections. 

before they could delve further into conversation, sydney had left in search of something -- whether it was to freshen up a bit or another surprise, he wasn’t sure -- but in her place, shawn had realized, the actress had left a letter. the canadian had picked it up carefully, running his fingers along the smooth creases of the paper before he peeled it open -- eager to devour its contents. what he read, as he’d done so, shocked him beyond belief in some ways; and yet, in others, the tender-hearted confession could hardly come as a surprise.

(WAKANDA FOREVER SPOILERS)

From the moment the movie started and until the movie ended, it was perfect.

I knew the movie was going to emotional, and from the amazing trailers, my expectations were very high. And somehow Wakanda Forever has exceeded my expectations. Knowing that Shuri was trying to save T’Challa but was too late, broke my heart. And then the marvel intro came on and the ENTIRE theater was silent. This is defintely a movie that you have to watch in theaters before you watch it on DVD, because it’s the experience that carries the weight.

The plot is incredible and—being a person of color—it resonates with me deeply because there is definitely a disconnect between minorites and we often turn on eachother, instead of coming together and protect one another. And I think WF touches on that in a perfect way. Namor offering an alliance and then Wakanda and Talokan becoming enemies, but also in the end they come a sort of agreement. And then showcasing how they are SO similiar, even down to the way they greet eachother. It’s brillant.

The cinematography is breathtaking. When the Talokans attacked the ship, it was amazing. They were terrifying in the best way possible, and to have them sound like sirens???? WHEW, as someone who loves the lore of sirens, I was so excited to see that. And their backstory was just so facisinating, and the BIRTHING SCENE??? UGH. Each slow mo scene in this movie was perfectly balanced, and it didn’t seem like ti went on for too long or was over done, it was just right.

Now let’s get down to real spoilers.

KILMONGER?? WHEWWWWW. When I tell you that I could not have guessed that was going to happen… Immediately his presence was just UGH, I loved that cameo. And it’s also a cameo that makes sense. Considering this happens right after her mother drowned, Shuri has this immense amount of anger and she’s feeling vegeful. And who’s more angry and vegeful than Kilmonger??? Perfect.

THE SOUNDTRACK?? Fucking perfect. Personally, the best song is Alone by Burna Boy, and it’s just *chefs kiss*. And the scores itself was great. And the use of sound was well balanced, letting us simmer in those silent moments.

The jokes were fucking hilarious. Every single joke hit. Had everyone in the theater cracking tf up. I’m still chuckling at “bald headed demon”. PLS.

Riri was amazing, and she exceeding my expectations as well. Her comedic timing was on point. “Young, gifted and black” indeed.

There’s so much I could talk about this movie, but I don’t want this review to be terribly long. So let me hurry up and talk about the ending.

From the moment when Shuri had flashbacks of T’Challa and to when it was revealed that T’challa has A SON?? Tears. Nothing but tears. I sobbed so hard when I got back home. I don’t know how the hell marvel managed to avoid spoilers of Kilmonger AND T’Challa’s son (who is also named T’Challa, i’m literally sobbing), but they did it brillantly. The entire movie was an out of body experience that you could only feel if you go to the theaters. And I will even go far as to say it exceeds the first movie.

18 (now 19) years of Grey's! Gosh. But yeah, I dunno the answer to any question on NA, I think it's all just vibes... The way they handled Max vs Michelle Forbes, and everyone under her, and then Max hiring people over to the other clinic, it all just seems quite haphazard.

There was a lot they could have done with Lauren, and you can see the echoes of it when they talk about her privileges as white and rich but it's so shallowly done most of the time, and often negated by how much the narrative then venerates Max.

And then they chose the clumsiest way to contrast her with Leyla, like, honestly, even at the very start it was a very in-your-face contrast, but you felt that was the point and they'd unpack it with some nuance, that while Lauren had all the worldly riches, Leyla was the one who was more balanced and richer in other ways, and yet the difference would still be insurmountable in some ways and they'd just have to acknowledge it but whew. Whewwwww. I think we'll all be really puzzled about the direction this show took for a long time.

1. Most self-indulgent AU

OKAY, I KNOW I ANSWERED THIS HERE, BUT I HAVE ANOTHER ONE….. my ChrysiJacks Wicked AU is VERY self-indulgent. I think Jacks being an annoying popular kid in a magic school and Chrysi being the outcast is VERY good, especially since I think Jacks would slowly fall in love with Chrysi, even though she’s the weird, creepy outcast. (Plus, everyone that describes Chrysi calls her the one with “hair like bone, eyes like blood, and her face is speckled like a toad’s back” and then Jacks sees her and is like “have you guys never seen freckles before?” Like.. yeah, as if Chrysi isn’t the most bewitching person ever.) Then when they fall in love, Chrysi has to go into hiding because she pissed off the wizard president… yep! Good stuff!

Jacks ends up being engaged to Tella, but both of them can tell his heart’s not in it. When he sees Chrysi again, he thinks he just might scream!!! He’s so happy!

The song As Long As You’re Mine? Followed by No Good Deed??? WHEWWWWW, CHRYSIJACKSCORE… Chrysi saving him by turning him into the scarecrow, Jacks lying and acting like he’s helping Dorothy (??? Though it probably won’t end up being Dorothy LOL) kill Chrysi, when he’s actually working on his escape plan with her? Both of them leaving Oz together, because they care about each other so much? It’s just. Yeah. I love Wicked and I have since I was younger (We don’t talk about the book here. It’s an okay book, but we do not discuss it here.)

2. Guilty pleasure AU

Again, I answered that here, but I HAVE ONE MORE. My Chrysi/Tris Fear Street AU is a MAJOR guilty pleasure… I actually curse Chrysi this time, and later Chrysi gets possessed (she stabs Tris with his own broken drumstick. It’s great) and!!! I just love it because I never give Chrysi and Tris a love story that’s meant to last, but this one!!! This is it!!! They fall in love and they stay in love! Yes, Tris did technically kill Chrysi, but it was out of love :) And she came back to life in the end. So it’s fine.

Plus I think a lot of the relationship drama is still similar to the movie, since Tris is bi and he can be very self-conscious about how Chrysi and others perceive him.

And there’s the whole part where Tris is tying Chrysi up places, like his little possessed pet. He’s taking his possessed girlfriend out on walks :) Don’t worry, she only bites sometimes.

I’m not very coherent, but their relationship fits very well in the storyline—Chrysi’s a cheerleader that moved the town over, Tris sneaks over to see her at the game because he used to be in marching band (he never turned in the uniform), and uhhh, they both get mean in that argument. I love it.

12. Free Space (Askers choice) 

I’m jst going to mention a random AU off the top of my head!! Ummm, OH, my Twelve Dancing Princesses / Entwined AU with Chrysi and Archibald!!! Chrysi is fighting tooth and nail, trying to keep Archibald from being interested in her, but, by God, he’s determined to get to know her. She just wants to use him to break the curse. It’s hilarious, esp since he knows her well enough by the climax to be able to tell which Chrysi is the real Chrysi and which Chrysi is Elias Bloom planning on stabbing him. He also gets to see Chrysi pummel Elias Bloom into the floor. It’s very fun for him. Oh, also he and Chrysi kiss and stuff. And. Stuff.

13. An AU I’m fixated on right now

I’m actually currently working on Fake Dating ChrysiJacks at the moment! So that’s something I’ve been fixated on—just the growing displeasure Chrysi has with the arrangement, and the way that she realizes (with great horror) that she wishes Jacks actually wanted her in a romantic way—instead of in a way to get back at his ex. But she puts up with it. She gets a lot snappier with Jacks as time goes on, though, and Jacks doesn’t realize why.

By the time Jacks realizes he actually does love her, unfortunately, Chrysi’s decided she’s done with it. He tries to tell her that he wants to kiss her, but she jst looks at him tiredly and goes, “No you don’t. You want to kiss Tella. I’m just a convenient stand-in, since I won’t die.” He doesn’t get the chance to tell her that he’s not stupid anymore and he actually does love her.

Too little, too late.

whewwwww it was a long day so I don’t think I’m gonna accomplish much tonight haha

tho I’m really gonna try to at least get one or two small things done and thrown into the queue, but I worked and did a lot of running around and I’m FEELING IT lol
