So I saw a post earlier (haha I found it! https://www.tumblr.com/pinyeti/744877479206993921/just-thinking-about-how-the-reason-one-piece-is-so) about the reason that One Piece works so well is that every character is a main character—from Buggy to Whitebeard, Robin, or even Katakuri—we could follow any of them and still have an epic story.

Which got me thinking about how Luffy’s story would stand out even if we followed someone else’s story…

Whitebeard’s a bit old to be going after the One Piece at his age, but his kids believe in him so Seas be damned, he guesses he’s going after it. Technically, if he makes it more of a never-ending scavenger hunt, he doubts any of his kids’ll notice besides maybe Marco, who’ll only side-eye him at times.

More so, he wants to see his kids take the world by storm, to stand on their own but always know that they have a family to come back to at the end of the day. Family is more than blood, and he’ll make damned sure each of his kids know he’ll always be their Pops, but that’s not to say they can’t have family elsewhere. The majority that do, have mostly parted ways, but for the minority who actually keep in contact…well let’s just say it makes for some interesting stories around dinner time. Especially from young Ace, what with his firecracker of a younger brother. For a rookie, he certainly started off with a high bounty. It wouldn’t make waves in Paradise, but it’s certainly nothing to scoff at when it comes to the Blues, especially the East. After that, it’s like the boy and his crew can’t sneeze without falling into trouble. Between Ace’s stories and the fact that Edward wasn’t born yesterday, he could understand what the Marines were trying to cover up in Alabasta. Those kids took out a Warlord. And after that, it just doesn’t stop. Destroying Enies Lobby. Declaring war on the World Government. Taking out another Warlord. At the rate those Strawhats were going, he was sure Ace would be getting another meetup with his brother soon, most likely in the New World. And if Whitebeard was lucky, maybe he’d get another son.

~Now here you can imagine either Marineford just not happening or my fav, it happens (because Luffy storming Impel Down is that perfect blend of chaos and caring) but Ace and Whitebeard live~

2 years and some time after Wano…

“Hey Ace, what’s your brother up to, you haven’t talked about him in a while?”

“Which one?”

“Which one? You have more than one?”

“Yeah, there’s Sabo, who’s second in command of the Revolutionary Army, and Luffy, who’s a god.”

“WHAT!! What do you mean Luffy’s a god?! That little pipsqueak you’d talk about who was always getting into trouble? He’s a god?!”

I want someone (not me) to write a Bodyguard!Sladick fic - but in a very specific way (I'll probs end up writing this unless someone beats me to it (pls beat me to it someone, I can't commit to another WIP))

Basically, someone kills Bruce Wayne. And not because he's batman, but because he's rich af and refuses to sell his land in Gotham (bc yk, bro can't sell the fucking batcave and all his safe houses full of Batmerch). But no one knows who killed Bruce and why but they all believe it's because they found out Batman's identity and needed him out of the way for something.

21 year old Dick Grayson, who hasn't spoken to Bruce or had anything to do with the Batfam for two years, is asked to come back for Bruce's funeral and reading of the Will. Turns out, Bruce left everything - and I mean everything; cape and all - to Dick. Dick is now The Batman, the leader of the JL, the billionaire, the CEO of Wayne Enterprises, and also the legal guardian of not one, not two, but three kids. Jason and Tim was understandable, but Bruce never mentioned to Dick about having a kid with Talia al Ghul of all people. In all fairness, Damian was only dropped off at Bruce's feet two months ago. (Note that I'm fucking around with the Batboy's ages. Thus, Jason is 16 (bro died young), Tim is 14(bro was crazy stalking so young), and Damian in 9(bro is just young))

The killer, however, is still at large, and is now targeting Dick, the new Prince of Gotham, and his kids. But Batman (Dick) can't get involved just yet, the Batfam don't know what exactly the killers knows about them and Batman - it's too risky. But Dick can't just not do anything. So he calls the one person he knows will keep his family safe - for the right price, obvs.

Dick has money to play with and Slade loves a good game.

Basically they make a contract that issues Deathstroke as the bodyguard of the Grayson-Wayne Family until Bruce's killer is handled.

Only, Slade comes with his own baggage (aka a 9 yr old Rose Wilson) and Dick is stuck training (aka raising) another kid. But that's fine, because Slade ends up being less of Dick's bodyguard (let's face it, the kid can handle himself), and more of Dick's bodyguard-with-benefits/mentor/business partner/mental-support-bestie/drinking-buddy/private-chef/co-parent/stay-at-home-husband/love-of-his-life.

They get very domestic in this fic. And Slade has to wear a three-piece suit when following Dick around as he plays Gotham's Billion Dollar Prince and Dick can't stop riding him in the back of the Batmobile because Slade looks waaaaay too good in a suit.

But raising kids is hard, especially when you're 21. So Dick faces a lot of challenges in this fic - like his undead brother, Jason, trying to come to terms with Bruce dying right after they started to mend their relationship, and Tim who was just recently fired as Robin after one simple mistake, and his new rage at Bruce for that and dying (he refuses to believe his dead), and fuck - the nine year old assassin and grandson of Ra's al Ghul, Damian, who never truly had the pleasure (misfortune?) of knowing his father. Than there's Rose Wilson, who doesn't really know English all that well and is dealing with the trauma of watching her mother die before her.

So Dick has to really step up - as a business man, as a leader, as Batman, and as a father.

Luckily he's got Slade, who fuck's like he fights. It tuff that Dick is quickly falling in love with Slade, and Rose, who he can't help but see as his kid, too.

Oh I love this idea so much, its great!! I would love to read it as well ahaha and I might write something 👀👀 but it's a big project so I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing

I love bodyguard Slade stories, I'm a sucker for those honestly haha and I love how here he's protecting not only Dick but the whole family. And its just so delicious that Dick hasn't talked to Bruce in so long and now he's thrown back into his life- but Bruce is dead and Dick has to take on the mantle and help the city and raise three kids and keep them all alive and not go crazy and-

I love that you're making it even more messy and difficult for Dick by putting Rose in the middle of it too lmao. I can already imagine all the trouble the family would have together

Slade wearing a three piece is a sight and I don't blame Dick at all 🙈🙈 But seriously, I adore their relationship in this, it's so complex and complicated. I can imagine them bonding over some whisky when the kids are deep asleep and Dick getting frustrated with what his life is now and Slade just letting him cry while holding him close AGHH SO GOOD

I think glimmwoods post has got to definitely be up there bc I can't tell you how I screamed at seeing this in my dashboard

Lizboat's art has also been one of my fav too, they were serving the actaeonshipping content we needed before we even asked for it. and their latest drawings have been so lovely (the one i attach is kinda old but it's completely canon so it deserves to be here)

I've gotta add too, anything by @/fujii-draws, @/oneluckydragon, @/cozybells and @/emeraldtimethief have always been a joy every time I see them!!

I'm gonna cheat a bit and add art that is not necessarily "ship" in the traditional sense, but still are some of my favourite stuff with these three. Like Furiouskettle comic whichs is an absolute masterpiece and one of my fav comics in the fandom since I first saw it

Also the artist @/soko_koso on twitter has some of the best grovyle fanart I've seen and I'm studying so much to try to make some fanart of their quality :'')) I adore their style.

choose three favourites of my work? oh, that is a difficult question.

one thing I really didn't like about my art when I was younger was that it was all very static. it was people sitting or standing, it was still life paintings. one of the things I'm really proud of in my work now is the sense of capturing a moment instead of someone posing, and/or giving a sense of movement

these two are just the opposite of static and I love them for that

and then there's this mug. the design is great, the details are great and I had so much fun carving it. it was honestly just delightful and I wish I'd kept it. I don't say that very often.

I'm putting the rest of this under a cut because I'm going to ramble

I started drawing because I was making silly comics about me and my friends in grade school and through high school (I assigned them all fursonas because I was a really cool 15 year old lol)

I got a little more serious about art in high school, but I never thought it'd be something I'd make money at.

when I was... in my early twenties? maybe 19 still? ah, memory issues, I went through a nine month art program, the 'Urban Canvas' project run by SCYAP (saskatoon community youth arts programming). the program is meant to support young artists, especially those with mental health or addiction issues. and it meant I got paid to draw and paint and create weird shit for 40 hours a week, for nine months. and then some (seven? eight?) years later I got to go through the program again which... honestly I'm so grateful I got to do that. (and SCYAP still supports me, they give me a table at their craft show every year and helped me with my first solo gallery show)

these are some of the pieces I made during my time at SCYAP:

and two very rare pictures of me, posing with two of my master studies. the left from when I was 20ish, and the right when I was... 27ish? (man I'm still proud of that Gentileschi copy)

it was after SCYAP when I started thinking that I could actually make money as an artist. so I painted more than a dozen murals, drew a 20-some page full colour comic, painted pet portraits, and sold my own paintings. commissions were more reliable than selling my own work for a long time lol

as for how I got into pottery, my mental health uh... haha. it took a nosedive about six years ago and during some of the worst of it, I was severely agoraphobic. my mom, who has always supported my art, offered to take me to pottery classes with her, in an attempt to get me leaving the house at least once a week. it did help (along with a lot of other things) and once I started exploring the surface decoration side of pottery, things really clicked for me

tangent: one of the things that really drove me to progress as an artist was having something driving my work. whether it was preparing for a gallery show or making a bunch of holiday cards or making piles of fan art because I was obsessed. every time I made something, anything, I improved. so when I had a goal that made me create more, I improved faster.

my unsolicited advice: make that weird fan art. it's good for your art. (I was really into tf2 lol)

I've tried tons of different mediums and I think it was a great way to help my style evolve.

when you're making art with a new medium, it might take awhile before you're making your own personal work. I, at least, find that I usually have to do some studies of other peoples' art and just try some basic creations before I do anything more personal. but once I'm ready to do MY stuff, I have a new repertoire to pull from. I wouldn't be the potter I am if I didn't have the experiences I got from other mediums

(also oil paints, pastels, 3D wire art, crochet, linocut, stone carving, sewing, set painting and quilting. also my spouse and I like to make crafts together, like cutting-construction-paper, gluing-pompoms-and-googly-eyes crafts, because it's just fun to make stuff together)

I'm sure pottery isn't the last medium I'm gonna try. I'll probably get obsessed with carving tiny wooden figurines or making wax sculptures at some point. who knows!

and now I'm in my mid-thirties, making art pretty much every day. I've been doing this since I was a teenager, so almost twenty years now.

I never imagined I'd be satisfied with my own art, that I could look at most of my pieces and not see how I could have done it better, but hey, here I am.

Since you mentioned that "Here I Am & Here You Are" is your favourite, I thought I'd share a coda for the fic that never made it into the fic mostly because I only wrote it two hours back. Also, this one goes out to all the SamBucky fans who were sad that the two didn't get much screen time in the fic!

"Well, well, well," Bucky propped a hand up against the door. "If it isn't my favourite person with my second least favourite person. A pair, when put together, forming a union so utterly average in my favourites list that it doesn't even warrant the work of accurate ranking."

"Did you run lines for that?" Steve asked.

"You're not very good at math." Tony tilted his head.

"Agh." Bucky wrinkled his nose, "I already hate this sequel. Come on in."

"Sequel?" Steve added as he pushed their suitcases through. Tony trailed behind them, running a hand over the flat tile on the door, a colourful piece that bore the words, "BEARS AHEAD! GRR!" 

"You two. Back together." Bucky shook his head, "can I have it on the record that I don't endorse this?"

"What record?" Tony asked. "What're you even on about? I thought you lost an arm, not your head."

"Wow." Bucky pointed a finger at Tony. "You know, this is why people call you "difficult"."

"Yeah, yeah," Tony said, "how's the new one handling you?"

"I would say like a dream but I don't want to feed your ego, so I'll say like a," Bucky steepled his fingers, metal and human hand making a compelling image when intertwined. Like some harmonic fusion of AI and humanity. Real cyberpunk shit. Bucky exhaled, deciding on, "like a well-constructed reality."

"Okay." Tony drew out the word, "is Chip here?"

"Who?"

"Sam." Steve clarified.

"Oh, haha, Chip 'n Dale, I get it. You think you're funny. Shut the fuck up." Bucky said, no bite to the words. "Yeah, he's around here."

"What a welcome." Tony crossed his arms. "Okay. I'm gonna change, then lay on the couch, drape an arm over my eyes and nap off the jet lag."

"Sure." Bucky shrugged. "Sam's gone to get burgers. Should I wake you then?"

"Steve can wake me then." Tony shot a glare at Bucky. "Since he knows how to do it without totally violating someone."

"It was one time, we were twenty-two, and the ice had all but melted." Bucky protested, quips easy from an argument too often regurgitated, so well-worked that they slipped out easy even after a decade.

Demonstrating that the passage of time didn't necessarily reflect emotional growth, Tony shot Bucky a middle finger. Then, after pointedly waiting for Bucky to point out the bathroom, he took his clothes from the carrier bag and went over to the bathroom. The snick of the lock rang in a final pointed gesture and in the pointed silence afterward, Steve and Bucky met each other's gaze.

"You gonna give your old man a hug or are you too grown up for that kind of thing?" Steve asked.

"What the fuck are you saying?" Bucky made a disgusted sound, "you ever say that to me again, I'm kicking you out, brother or not."

"Alright, tough guy. Come here." Steve urged, bringing Bucky forward and hugging him, taking care to pat him on the back of the flesh shoulder. 

"Y'okay? You all mushy?" Bucky asked into his shoulder, "Tony treating you well?"

"Shuddup." Steve replied good-naturedly, "You run Sam into an early grave yet?"

"He's a slow runner." Bucky seesawed, pulling back to make the gesture.

"Don't I know it." Steve said, "seriously, though. How've you been?"

". . . Better." Bucky admitted, "Not everyday, but, you know. . . a lotta days. It's good. I'm good." 

"That's a solid deal." Steve praised, raising his eyebrows to punctuate the point.

"Ain't it?" Bucky gave a flash of a grin, all young fire and old contentment. 

"I'm glad to hear it, Buck." Steve said, gripping the man's shoulder for a moment, just a brief press, "I really, really am."

"I know, ya big sap." Bucky shrugged the moment off. "How's Tony been? You fucking each other's brains out?"

"Reckon it would take a while to fuck Tony's brains out." Steve pondered, "since he's a genius and all. Lots of brain. . . cells." 

"Okay." Bucky raised his eyes heavenward. "He ain't even that smart. Remember when he thought a carton of milk cost eight bucks?" 

"He's a futurist." Steve said in his defense. "Give it a few years, it probably will."

"Christ alive." Bucky shook his head. "Good thing Sam's only drinking soy and whatnot." 

"Agh, he's converted you?" Steve wrinkled his nose.

"Ye-up." Bucky turned his thumbs inwards, pointing at himself. "Total believer in the soy cream, right here."

"If your mother could see you now, she wouldn't even recognise you." Steve shook his head faux-solemnly.

"Uh, duh. Why'd you think I grew my hair out?" Bucky scritched a finger against his chin. 

"I dunno, to hide your ugly mug?" Steve volleyed. 

"Is that what the scruff on your face is for?" Bucky poked him. "'Cause what's that about?"

"I didn't have time to shave while travelling." Steve said, "I'll shave it off when I shower later. Tony likes me clean-shaven, anyway." 

"Tony likes me clean-shaven, anyway." Bucky mocked in a jeering tone. "Jeez, the two a you are awful."

Steve paused, set his lips in a straight line and said, "'Cause the stubble can be scratchy when I'm rimming him." 

"Eugh. Yuck." Bucky shook his shoulders out. "What the fuck, eugh. Oh god, I'm gonna gag."

"Okay, drama queen." Steve rolled his eyes. He took the pause to push their suitcases up against the wall. Upon turning back, he found Bucky raising an eyebrow at him. 

"That's a homophobic remark." Bucky said.

"You're." Steve ran a hand over his face, "I'm too jet-lagged to listen to you right now."

"Good way to say you can't think of a comeback."

"Don't say comeback, it reminds me of—"

"Blah, blah, blah." Bucky stuck his fingers in his ears, "can't hear you, can't be traumatised by you and Tony." His voice rose higher with the second sentence, and it proved the "losing one sense amplifies the other senses" thing wrong because limiting his hearing was obviously causing an amp up in Bucky's lack of common sense and also, his (already debilitated and clearly debilitating further) sense of humour. 

Thankfully though, it seemed that the universe was immune from the senses thing because it was with an apt sense for timing that the doorbell chose that moment to ring out.

Steve let Bucky continue his immature performance, going up to open the door in the charmless host's stead. 

"Hey!" Sam greeted, takeout bags in both hands, "you're here!"

"Hey Sam," Steve returned, taking the takeout bags from him and moving them to the dining table, "good to see you, man. How've you been?" 

"Great, great." Sam said, "How're you? Travel safe?"

"Yeah, perfectly." Steve said, "Tony's just getting changed. You came back quick, eh?"

"Got lucky with the line." Sam said, "how's—man. What are you doing?"

Bucky took his fingers out of his ears and gave Sam a sheepish smile, "well, well, well." He said faux-menacingly, "if it isn't my least favourite person."

"Don't say that about Steve." Sam sidestepped, "and why're you acting like a child?" Without waiting for an answer, Sam entered the kitchen and the sound of running water followed. 

"FYI, this is why you're Dale in Tony's "Chip 'n Dale" analogy." Steve said. 

"Look at you, bein' such a supportive boyfriend." Bucky said. "Boy oh boy, I best be careful or I'll be out of the running for boyfriend of the year."

The lock of the bathroom door clicked and Tony came out in a grey sweatshirt and trousers. Steve decided to save the fact that they were both Steve's clothing items for later, when Tony was sleepy enough to only notice the reprimand and not how hot Steve got at the sight of it. Tony ran a hand through his hair as he asked, "I heard the door. Sam's here?"

"Kitchen." Steve jutted a thumb out, and Tony headed over to say hi. 

As the two began what sounded like an incredibly mature exchange of greetings, Steve and Bucky shared a short look. 

"We are not the immature ones in our relationship." Bucky insisted, "we are not the "Dale" of the relationship."

"I think they're brothers, anyway." Steve gave an involuntary rictus, "Tony's always multi-tasking when we watch films. It's a problem. I'm working on it."

"Yeah, okay." Bucky sighed. "Hey, Stevie, off the record?"

"The record that doesn't exist?" Steve asked, "that record?"

"The very same." Bucky cleared his throat. "I'm happy you're back together, you know? Real happy. You average each other out."

"In your favourites ranking or in general?" Steve asked. 

"Both, genius." Bucky said. "That's why you two work so well together." 

"Thanks, Bucky." Steve said. "You too, you know?"

"I know." Bucky said, giving him a genuine smile. That, more than anything, made Steve feel properly settled. He was out of business in taking other people's opinions on him and Tony getting back together, but Bucky was definitely the closest to being a person he could trust to know enough to be accurate and honest enough to be truthful. So—the fact that he approved, well. It just mattered.

Sam and Tony walked out of the kitchen, still chatting, with table mats in Sam's hands for the food.

"Hey, Tones." Bucky walked forward, "hey, buddy, come here." 

Tony made an "oof" sort of sound as Bucky came up and hugged him, matter-of-fact about it. The look Tony sent over to Steve over the shoulder was bamboozled. Befuddled. Somewhat begrudged. A tad bemused.

"Hey." Tony said, "you okay?"

"Yeah." Bucky patted him twice on the back and then stepped back. He pointed at Tony with the metal hand and at Steve with the other, "you two break up again, I'm suing you for psychiatric damage."

Tony's finger met Bucky's in a perversion of the E.T. greeting, pushing him back as he said, "Buckaroo, you couldn't afford me."

"Can we continue this over food?" Sam called out, "'cause I didn't wait twenty minutes for cold fast food."

"Sure thing, babe." Bucky grabbed Sam by the scruff of his neck and pulled him in for a tight hug and a peck on the cheek, "there, there. Didn't mean to make you feel left out." 

"I wasn't even—" Sam tried to shrug out the hug for a futile moment before quickly conceding to it, "whatever, okay."

"I don't want to break up," Tony sidled over to Steve, "but I do want to keep up with the psychiatric damage."

"Agree." Steve wrapped an arm around Tony's waist. 

"Should we fuck on his bed?" Tony suggested.

"Sam would suffer too, then, and he doesn't deserve it." Steve said, adding with a thoughtful tone, "let's do it on his old bike."

"We do average out." Tony said, and then, at Steve's startled surprise, "see, I can multi-task."

DO I! Oh my god, too many haha. Both fluff and NSFW HC’s to follow so minors, this is your warning lol.

- firstly, Gareth radiates dad vibes. He’s always watching for deals on new tech, I feel like he’s the kind of person to get an in home computer and he’s SO EXCITED about it.

- he absolutely has a VHS collection that turns into a CD collection. Even as they lose popularity he keeps those CD’s and tapes, still has a huge stereo even though he could just use Spotify.

- he hates mowing the lawn, def a cool weather kind of guy. Loves the fall and winter, enjoys going out and shoveling the driveway then sitting outside with a mug of coffee or tea.

- goes all out for Halloween and Christmas, wouldn’t be caught dead with Easter themed anything. It took him awhile to get into Valentine’s Day but now he buys you flowers every year in excess. I could see him getting you one of those lego flower sets so you can save them.

- can’t keep plants alive to save his life. Literally manages to kill everything except one pot of violets his sisters got him one year. He guards them with his life. They froze one year and he literally cried and has never forgiven himself for letting them die.

- he’s the kind of husband who signs you both up to learn salsa and then proceeds to nearly break both of your legs because he simply cannot dance. It’s okay though because he tries so hard and it’s fucking adorable.

- enjoys slow dancing with you whenever possible. When you two started dating he’d play Top of the World by the Carpenters or Our House by Cosby and swirl you around his parents kitchen. His mom caught you one time and nearly cried because it was so precious.

- this man loves his mother. Like, would do anything for that woman. When he met you, it was exactly the same. Huge family guy but has daddy issues so male authority figures are not his fav. If you’re family though, he’d guard you with his life.

- got bullied a lot in HS obviously. If Eddie came back alive he’d tell him about what Jason did and apologize profusely for spilling even the tiniest bit of info. Eddie forgives him completely but Gareth never really lets go of it and feels horrible about it to this day.

- if he ever found out one of his children was getting bullied he’d literally lose it. Like, irrationally angry and has to go smoke in the garage to calm down so he doesn’t kick some 12 year olds ass.

- always wanted kids, but never wanted you to feel pressured. If y’all got pregnant anytime, teens or later he’d literally drop everything to prep for being a dad. Gets scared alot about not being able to provide for you.

Hi! Imagine a timetravel fic where Theseus travels to the future. Newt has already died of old age (or whatever you want him to die from lol) and it has been one week since the funeral Theseus meets Newt's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, how do you think that'll go?

Okay, so if Newt has died, he’d have probably been like 126 or older because Google doesn’t give me a canon date of death (yippee, our fav magizoologist lives!). So Theseus would be projecting into like the 2020s!! Poor guy.

First of all, I know wizards are a bit quirky, but even so I don’t think you could get away with being straight from the 1920s-1940s (depending on when this happened) without people noticing. With this prompt, I sort of imagined Newt’s extended family having some kind of massive commemoration dinner after the funeral, something upbeat and celebratory after Newt’s lived his long life, with a table laid for thirty, loads of cousins and so on. And then Theseus just appears out of some bushes and is like ummm is this the right address…no okay everyone’s wearing jeans what…

I guess this works best if Theseus does (rip) die at least a generation or two before Newt’s grandkids are born otherwise there’d be the usual time travel chaos that I can never quite wrap my head around. So the general reception is “haha look at that weird guy, he looks a lot like grandpa” and some of the grandkids are like “no he’s just a (modern wizarding cultural reference like idk peaky blinders) cosplayer” very sagely.

Whether it’s accidental or on purpose, at this point, I feel like Theseus is the kind of guy to want this “silly confusion” all cleared up and would produce some kind of speech about who he is, etc. It’d probably take a bit of processing on the family’s part too. And it would be nice to think the brother relationship did get fixed in Theseus’s remaining lifetime, so eventually everyone has a chat among themselves and decide as a group “yes, we think we might know you!”

The next big question: where’s Newt? And there’s the next big answer. Because he’s dead. Then again, when Theseus is given the year, maybe he experiences some bittersweet happiness. After all, 120+ is a decent age to live to for a wizard. And it sounded like Theseus himself didn’t make it for that long, so his little brother was lucky and clearly loved, looking at this assortment of young and not-that-young but certainly young-in-his-eyes people.

He’s a little pissed at himself that he managed to move this far forwards in time and miss the funeral. And then after he’s done being a little frustrated, he gets a bit upset and beats a hasty retreat. Some of the grandkids politely point him inside, maybe to the living room or something where they might still have bits and pieces like flowers and pictures of Newt from the funeral up and give him time to reflect.

The grandchildren scheme together and send one of the great grandchildren in and are like “okay you tell the weird old-fashioned man if he needs…water or something…now that it’s been almost a full day, y’know, all he has to do is ask.” Theseus greets the unfortunate toddler politely but still manages to freak them out because I’d imagine a pre-1950s accent would be pretty scary to 2020s kids lol.

Eventually, he’s coaxed back out and immediately starts trying to (tactfully) extract as much information about Newt that he can. And all these kids! And Tina would be there, maybe, so they could have the most confusing reunion ever. I’m imagining:

Tina: “Pass the potatoes, (great-grandchild).”

Great-grandchild: (obliges) “Ah, this was Great-Grandpa Newt’s favourite recipe…”

Theseus: (literally activates, like imagine eyes light up, eyebrows fully prepped, trying to keep it cool) “Oh, Newt—“ (voice crack) “—Newt, he what? His—his potatoes?”

I guess after some time, he’d have to start assimilating with the extended Scamander clan. It’d be chaos but I think Theseus would be good with kids. Perhaps a little bit “hello teenagers how do you do?” with the older ones, but I think the time-travelling would make him less bossy and prone to lecturing than he might otherwise be.

And I think he’d love to play games with the littler ones. Although I see him as being one of those adults who start off enthusiastically playing, then retreat to the sofa and dryly narrate their participation, then eventually fall asleep and it’s all “NO I WASN’T ACTUALLY ASLEEP” “NO I WAS JUST RESTING MY EYES I PROMISE” “why am I so tired? uhhh it’s been a long week”. And then the parents come back in and he’s being used as a jungle gym while being totally knocked out asleep on the sofa haha.

I think someone like Theseus would probably be having constant existential crises in a time-travelling situation as someone who enjoys routine and their very specific principles and goals. I could imagine him trying to make himself useful to take his mind off it and then getting sucked into doing anything and everything for the Scamanders, which I would imagine could include a lot of chaotic creature care and babysitting. But while I don’t see Theseus as having a knack for creatures, I think having looked after little Newt he’d be pretty good at the other stuff.

But realising that this is a future where Newt lived a long life (without him, even) and died so close to Theseus’s arrival in this weird modern time period would probably always be in the back of his mind. Something like that is hard to process but maybe it hits him hard at the most random times at an almost paralysing level in the middle of things, and the family try and support him as best as they can. I think maybe Theseus would learn to lean into that a little. With some time he’d become a super-affectionate (mysterious relative? young great-grandfather) and be going around giving everyone very sensible well-meaning advice, ruffling hair, hugging, coming up with stupid nicknames, all that jazz :)

Rolf totally loves his sweater (maybe mama knitted it for him ❤️), but now I'm thinking he has some big old majestic Old Country coat he wears in winter and impresses everyone with it (an idea for a future drawing maybe? mmm). On a sidenote HIS PAJAMAS are so adorable... it's such a twist on his character (psst do you think Kev secretly has some silly pjs of his own? 😁 maybe there's bikes on them I dunno)

Btw I gotta draw Kevin in the letterman jacket at some point. Even when I drew them older, Rolf gets his cozy sweater but kevin is still stuck with the green/orange shirt :P

For one thing, I think I started paying A LOT more attention to Rolf because of kevrolf, rather than the other way around. :) Hi! 4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw - There are plenty of things I wish I was better at drawing at, that I would draw more if I thought my skills were up to par with what I imagine in my head (mostly cityscapes and backgrounds tbh when I do get a hankering I have so much fun). But right now in particular in the cyberpunk (Hollowpoint) campaign I'm in one of the pcs has a fucking mask that makes me want to commit crimes on their player. There is now a year long running gag about this man not fucking taking his mask off and how much easier its going to be for me to draw him once we see his face. I want to draw him more!!! I really do!! I love all of the pcs to death but like motherfucker, your mask (and hood tbh) is a nightmare stop.

8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in - I would be amiss to not bring up the Sburbia/Long Play tarot deck BUT its more like on hiatus, I'm just taking a big ol' break. Slowly been creeping through the swords so its still a work in progress just really slow now that most of the majors are out of the way. Other than that it's mostly animatics and animations. My animatics folder is called 'Animatics u will never do' because I realize most of the time I bite off more than I can chew. I've finished one (1) animatic and its the one that's pinned to the top of my blog. 9. What are your file name conventions - Haha. A mix. In my childhood, the dragonology books were a huge passion and creative influence for me. Especially the illustrations by douglas carrel. Another book illustrator that i was kinda obsessed with was chriss riddell, just love how detailed their illustrations are Ghibli studio's style I always love. Just watching their movies is such a treat, I always feel so full of inspiration. As for current inspirations? Honestly the artists I follow and the music i listen to. I always draw the best art when my spotify shuffle liked songs playlist has just the right flow and it fuels me! And when I see other artists share info on their characters or glimpses into their oc projects it makes me want to work on my characters!! And when my fav artists upload an art piece with such good shapes and colors and compositions?? Augh it makes me want to draw. Oh an animatics! I love watching animatics! Especially for musicals they are so fucking good and so many talented artists it fills me with joy. just gives me straight up shivers!! Another thing that fuels me is the reactions of you guys and my friends! I want to share my characters and art and use them to engage with people. Get them interested in my world, inspire them, just engage with the community, get talking! So yeah art is very important to me haha. Normally I get really mad when im in a dryspell like this but seeing how i drew 18 art pieces last month im cutting myself some slack haha, i deserve some rest after that, especially since my routine and energy levels are extremely wack right now, i need to recover. i saw, that you ship john and andrew. and since ya also ship chris and ryan. i have a question. how would have you compared john and chris? both ships are similiar in a way.

oh, wow. didn’t expect someone to go so far into this blog or my ao3 page, to see my john/andrew shippy stuff. i’m so slow with updating stuff for these two, after all. but ah, dang. i feel so seen, haha. 

but regarding the question, while yeah, there are parallels/similarities between the two pairs. i must say, that comparing john & chris feels a bit like comparing an apple to a tomato to me. both are ‘fruits’, but they're very different kinds of one. 

now, *sits back* prepare yourself. this would be a loooong rant. 

so, ah. while john & chris do have some common/shared narrative moments. they’re still have fundamentally different roots. the main difference is that even if we take the gen approach, the reason why chris & john care about ryan & andrew are very opposite. i mean, it’s in chris’s nature to be a caretaker, a father figure. he’s an operator of a summer camp. he has to be a specific sort of person for this job. meanwhile, for john, it’s an exception, that he cares about andrew in this sort of manner, not an universal rule. he’s more of wanna-be-the-lead-party vs ‘dad’ of the group. so when you look at it, chris starts as the caretaker of all, before he sort of upgraded it to ‘some special, extra attention for my fav counselor only’. while john already has this unspoken mindset, that he’s andrew’s caretaker, specifically. he tries to look out for the rest of the group too, but more out of obligation, than anything else. he won’t go out of his way to save & stick with them. when angela gets dragged into the sewer, john grabs andrew’s arm repeatedly, yanking him back, when he tries to jump in and search for her. it’s crystal clear, where his priority lies in that very moment. or even, when someone of the group dies, and john nearly shrugs it off. sometimes for andrew’s sake, even if he was the one, who didn’t ‘saved’ them. it’s disturbingly easy for him to make peace with their death, if he and andrew are safe. he does care about them to a degree, but his main objective is to keep himself & andrew in one piece. chris hackett is less pragmatic in that sense. while ryan is his main priority, he still would have drowned in guilt, if some other counselors died in front/because of him. for john, it’s a ‘sacrifice that can be made if necessary’. chris’s favoritism made ryan ‘the most important’ out of all, while in john’s case, it’s more like, that andrew is ‘the only really important’. 

then, where chris is empathic, john leans toward cold intelligence. and this is where their next difference is pretty apparent. even in how they handle ryan / andrew. chris wants ryan to reach out a bit more, learn responsibility. when john just rather would do everything for andrew, and don’t let him make decisions, that he views as ‘doubtful’. chris wants to help ryan to mature up, mostly for the kid’s own sake. and then, you have john who kind of aggressively babysits andrew at times, haha. he doesn’t needs andrew to be ‘responsible’. he kind of likes, that he’s dependant on him, i imagine. but oddly enough, where chris would insist on things to be done his way, john would back off as soon as andrew would give him a sign, that he’s got it. so hilariously enough, while john is the one, who would tend to andrew, he seems to respect his ability to do smth by himself too. and chris just like ‘no, ryan. you do this how i told you to do it’. maybe, it bc chris is kinda more of ‘old-time’ southern hardass, where john is more of a wimp lol. their personalities, while sharing that neurotic middle aged man angle, still have a bit of different taste to it. their professions also play in it. chris is more down to earth, where john is more of a ‘thinker’. chris bases a lot of his decisions on either experience or emotion. john bases his own on cold intelligence & personal whims. they’re like ice & water here. same essence, but different structure/effect. 

now, more toward shippy stuff. both chris & john seem to view ryan / andrew as a ‘good kid’. someone, who is quiet and mostly harmless. someone, who needs their care/attention, bc of how reversed they are. but it’s where the two pairs also sort of switch places. ryan & john would pretty much slide into denial, if chris & andrew would do smth wrong. they would insist, that it’s not so or was an accident. meanwhile, chris and andrew are both ‘situational murders’. chris established as such by canon (when he turns into a werewolf), and andrew can become one. but it’s interesting to think about the ways and extent john & ryan can respectively go in their denial/desire to protect the other. i’m pretty sure, that they’re both capable of murder. i mean, ryan canonically can attempt to kill a person for chris’s sake. and john, while appearing very anti-weapon/anti-violence, clearly has a mean stick in him. and he’s pragmatic. so if there was a choice to kill someone to save andrew, he would have done it, i feel like. but ah, back to chris & john’s similarities, rather than differences. they both like a blank-faced, low-emotion guy. a sort of person, who is hard to read for others, but way easier to read for them, bc they pay a lot of attention to their companion. and bc ryan & andrew act more natural and laid-back with them. they’re both implied to be kids, who came from households with ‘old mannered’ adults and prob mostly hang out with older people vs being around their peers. it feels more ‘normal’ for them to understand a middle aged dude, than connect with someone of their own age. it’s not weird for them. and chris & john, who implied to be isolated/lonely, would love this positive kind of connection, esp of they can influence someone in a good way. 

and speaking of good influence, both ryan & andrew are this for chris & john too. as both of these men are ‘cursed’ with their own sort of disease. chris is a werewolf, and john is an alcoholic. both self-loathing to a degree. but ryan & andrew being there gives them smth to do. someone to try and be better for. i love how andrew’s presence sort of softens john’s rough edges, and makes him a bit more considerate toward others. if andrew would scold john for being rude to angela, he almost acts like a kicked dog, haha. and chris has to be ‘proper’ and ‘there’ for ryan. he can’t get depressed to the point, where one of his closest people would notice him slipping. in comparison, it’s easier for john to slip up, and even return to drinking. speaking of which, at least fanon wise, i must say, that chris has a will of steel, as he holds himself back around ryan to the point, where it feels like mental self-harm lol. john would give in way faster. chris would do all kinds of inner gymnastics to ‘justify’ whatever he does/feels, but john be like i can’t help myself. and this on itself is kind of a justification for him. sure, he will feel bad for a bit, but it’s less of chris’s endless angst lol. chris desperately wants to do the right thing. but john is pretty aware, that he himself isn’t a good person. therefore doing the right thing not always an option, that he would take. which once again makes sense, bc it’s pragmatic to do ‘bad stuff’ at times vs doing everything by the book. 

and before this answer would get 10 pages long, i must say, that even the ‘creepy’ tendencies between chris & john would differ. chris eventually goes full low-key stalker mode, while still trying to mostly just ‘a friend’. but john can prob go deeper into it, as he doesn’t have the same ‘he looks up to me’ connection with andrew. like andrew respects him, but he doesn’t turn to john for advice usually. like it’s the other way around lmao. so he can be more casual with andrew, and they can connect over books/writing. they have similar interests. chris & ryan connect over their respective hobbies. so it’s a bit of a different sort of experience in both cases. chris has to do more research vs john, who sort of has it easy lol. on the other hand, while they both caretakers, chris has nearly endless access to ryan, while john will have to play it smart and get more time with andrew. frankly, it’s prob not super hard, as i imagine, that andrew would stay after classes to chat with john at times. but when it comes to collecting new info, learning about his routine and habits, well, john can only do so much, before overstepping the line, and using his position as professor to read some personal info on andrew. like both chris & john would abuse their position to gather this new bit of knowledge. but chris ‘needs’ to know this, bc he’s ryan’s mentor. and john would just want to know it, fully realizing, that he’s being weird lol. i feel like john would have an easier time accepting, that he’s not all that normal about andrew. vs chris, who sees it as a bad thing, due to his condition and also bc he’s concerned about how ryan is much younger, than him. chris & john both knew the angle, where their attraction is ‘controversial’. tho they both feel more worried about what such relationships might do to ryan & andrew in a long run, vs how outsiders/sociality would see it. 

in oversimplified form, john/andrew & chris/ryan are the pairs, that sorta stuck in shitty situations. canonical wise, both of their narratives are tragic. but if we look at how chris & john would handle the problem of their younger companion having a crush on them & then dealing with the fact, that it’s mutual, well…chris is so much more modest about it. right until, he kind of not lol. and john already seems to think, that no one would care about andrew better, than him. so in a way, he decides everything inside his head, even before it gets out of hand. though, both ryan & andrew are the ones, who push things forward. chris & john have way too much nuances on their shoulders to be just as bold about their attraction. well, in the beginning. 

i find it funny tho, that supermassive did it twice. sort of connected a shy, 'silent' kid with an older male, and made a huge part of their narrative focus on said man, specifically.

I also do art, and have been trying to figure out how to soften my style a bit, and then I saw your Howe and went "Oh?" Your use of line art in the details of the face specifically is where I'm going "Hmm hmm Yes"

I love these "Oh?" moments, had them a couple of times with other artists and I'm INCREDIBLY flattered you had yours looking at my art!! Nate's portrait is a relatively old piece, my style probably evolved a lot and in the meantime I have changed both hardware and software I am using 😅 But! I think i have some thoughts about lineart and details: 1. I abandoned the way many artists draw, which is sketching and then drawing clean lineart on top. It never really worked for me and i think using (cleaned up) sketch as the lineart layer adds a bit of crispiness :D dont get me wrong i absolutely admire people who can do pretty, clean lineart layers. I cant, so Im working around 😆 this is certainly something that softened my style 2. Indeed many people say that lineart can always be thinner... But many artists use thicker lines and make them look soft and ethereal! Still, i prefer starting from the thinner lines and then bolding them in the most important spots. 3. My fav advice considering sketching (and so, lineart in my case haha) is to simply make a mess! Quick longer or shorter brush strokes always make the piece look less stiff. and everything can be cleaned up later, thats the wonder of digital drawing after all. @kallielef is absolutely my inspiration in terms of this soft and messy (in the best way) type of sketching technique. 4. Experiment with lineart colour! Back then i was clearly in my black lines era, but now i am being a bit creative about it 😆 5. Brushes are not the most important thing, but finding a nice sketchy one is always cool. Currently im using this one for CSP. 6. 'Thicker outer lines, thinner inner lines/details' is the rule I live by :D That being said Im still an amateur and maybe in a year i will look at it and think - what kind of crap you were telling this poor person 😂 but that's what works for me at the moment! Writing this out for myself. 

Tomorrow, I will finally get Yaoyao. I’ll need to grind her cube drops for the next few days (it needs Dendro, so I’m waiting for her to do it), but I’m only taking her to 80/80 for now, so it should be possible to finish that using next week’s battle pass mission for 10 bosses. With the event rewards, I should also have enough books to take her talents to 2/8/8. She’ll be working on Keqing Aggravate, hopefully. 

Then for the rest of the week, I’ll do exp book leyline, since I’m going to be dipping into my Mika books for Yaoyao, and I also have a bunch of other characters I want to take 70 > 80 later. 

For the rest of the patch, I need to focus on grinding for Mika and the 3.5 event claymore. Mika needs 27 more wenut drops and a lot of ballad books. (Bonus: I’m probably going to get enough Anemo drops to max ascend Heizou, my last sub-80/90 Anemo, from all this.) I’m going to hold off on the books until the end of patch overflow event, since Mond book domains is...... eh. It needs a different team than what I use for normal dailies and grinding, so it’s a hassle. I should be able to grind out everything he needs in one week if I focus on it specifically, and the 3.5 events will also help fill out anything I’m missing. 

The claymore needs more consecrated beast shells, chains, and weapon ore. The chains aren’t too big a deal, I’ll probably do them on Sundays over the patch, and I should hopefully be able to get the shells during exploration and with the scorpion at Yashiori + bird close to Old Varanara. 

For artifacts, Yaoyao should be okay with a 4pc Tenacity I’ll half take from Dori and half originally intended for Kuki non-Bloom set. Some of her specific pieces will depend on how she performs though, especially her healing and energy needs. I don’t plan to have her burst every rotation with Keqing, so it should be easier to manage. 

For Mika, he’ll use Candace’s Noblesse, though I need to check if any of the pieces need to be switched. He’ll be taking Zhongli’s Fav Lance, so he’ll need more crit than Candace has. 

Yaoyao will use either Kitain or Moonpiercer. Moonpiercer isn’t levelled, but her personal damage is going to be negligible right now either way, so it’s just for the atk buff effect. 

I need to level some more stuff, but I’ll just... put artifacts on hold for a while. It’s too depressing. 

For pulling, this patch is a skip, which is boring, but I’m at 65 rolls on both character and weapon, haha.... It’s too risky to roll even once more. I’ll have enough for Eula for sure, at least, though it’ll be tough getting Mika. Might need to risk C1 Eula... I’m pretty sure they’ll be on the same banner, at least, though we don’t know which half or who will run with them. My guess would be Dehya on first half and Eula on second half, I don’t think they’ll be together. The leaks also suggest Cyno will be rerunning, but the last open slot is being heavily contested between Shenhe and various other Mond characters. It’s fine as long as it’s not Klee, which would be really hard for me to swing. 

If I had to choose which C1 to risk... man, it’s hard to say, they’re all bad to pointless. Venti’s is useless, and while his C2 shreds Anemo, it’s not like... super useful in the taser and occasional freeze teams I use him on. Albedo’s C1 is useless, and his C2 theoretically adds DEF scaling to his burst, which is nice, but it’s pretty limited. Eula C1 is the most generically useable, since it increases her Phys DMG after hold skill following a tap skill (so, right before her burst). I’ve heard it’s not particularly powerful, but at least it’s something. 

I do need the starglitter from pulls though, since I want to buy Amber and Razor in April (68 starglitter total), Lisa in May (34 starglitter), and Kaeya in June (34 starglitter). Lisa is the most skippable purchase, but it’s still 102 starglitter, when we only get 2 every ten pulls or so. At this point, it’s almost useful to get C6′d 4 stars, since that’s a whole 5 starglitter. 

Jokes aside, the 4 stars longest without rerun are Fischl (9), Diona (9), Sucrose (8), Chongyun (12), Kuki (7), Collei (9), Dori (8), Candace (7). I have Fischl and Diona at C6, but Chongyun is C5, Sucrose is C3, and the rest are even lower. Given that I do want the starglitter, I don’t have any super strong preferences on the rate up 4 stars, though Kuki or Sucrose cons would be the nicest, and I guess I did want Candace cons too. 

Post 3.5, it’ll be Baizhu and maaaybe Kaveh. I want to get some Dendro man, but I’m waiting to see what their kits are. Kaveh might be a 4 star, it’s hard to say. I’m really hoping Baizhu is something that doesn’t care for Nahida, though a healer would be really nice. The other thing I’m considering is getting Nilou, as long as one of the Dendro men can run in her team instead of Nahida. But since Cyno is (probably) rerunning, Nilou might be in 3.6 with the theorized Baizhu launch and Nahida rerun. Which... would be really hard to manage.

(I also considered planning for Ayaka, since her costume solves basically all my issues with her design, but I ultimately decided against it, just because there’s already so much I want. Freeze team would be nice, but it’s not priority enough, compared to other stuff.) 

But this is getting into really unsubstantiated speculation, so it’ll likely get changed a lot once we’re in 3.5 and the 3.6 beta.
