Saw that post about Rayla with over 15k notes (for some reason I can't reblog It) and holy moly haven't you said It was about her I wouldn't have known! I'm glad she got support but worried at the same time since this seems to be a very common issue in fandoms.

I saw a similar thing happening in a fandom I was in‚ the female character was judged for literally everything even stuff she did to help loved ones (mostly boyfriend) and it got way worse when they became canon. Her journey was similar to Rayla's since she went from more serious to more softie and ofc people didn't like that.. It got so bad to the point people wanted her to die while pregnant. And while that was happening they would thirst over male characters who commited genocide. Kinda like bashing Rayla but being ok with Aaravos because he gets the hot guy pass.

Also you mentioned something about reddit hating her? What? I don't get fandoms at all.. Sending you this because you are one of the few mentioning this topic and it drives me crazy. I need to vent

The OP of that post deactivated their blog, but you can find them now at @ripple-rapple! But yeah, I’ve seen it in quite a few of my fandoms myself, and it’s honestly pretty disturbing.

I don’t really follow Marvel anymore (aside from Spider-Man), but I still have a soft spot for Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. I remember the fandom absolutely tearing her apart for snapping at Tony (i.e. making a single sarcastic remark) when his suit attacked her in her own bed. How dare she be mean to him when she nearly died? She’s a horrible girlfriend! And wow they were mad when the two reconciled, got married, and had a child—after all, she’s toxic and he could do way better than her. Never mind the fact she was more responsible than anyone else for changing him from a pretty horrible person to a true hero. And the best part? Shipping him instead with people whom he has far more antagonistic relationships with. You don’t have to put down a canon love interest who’s almost always a woman to enjoy a non-canon pairing.

Anyway, tangent over. That’s really disgusting… I hope everything worked out okay in the end for your girl and her child!

But yeah, I don’t go on the TDP subreddit much, because every time I do it’s a cesspool of negativity. I have a hard time believing anyone on there even likes the show. If you hate it that much just… don’t watch it? It’s also kind of the headquarters for dark magic apologists (at least it used to be), which is hilariously ironic. I can excuse a practice that corrupts your very soul, but I draw the line at a traumatized teenaged girl making a questionable decision to protect the boy she loves.

This was not what I wanted to talk about today speaking of which i was thinking about putting my head on heaven’s chest I mean I very much envy auther and the way he gets to put his head on her chest 😒 but I digress.

Oh another hot topic to think about for you shark when changretta had that discussion with Polly at the bar and at the end he says “what a shame your not dancing with anyone. There's a lot to unpack here so we can talk about this point by point. My reply will be kind of short today 'cause I don't want to spoil anything for Heaven in Your Eyes' future chapters and twists.

• The Russian inspection and party

At first, the whole situation was fun, especially because of Arthur's reluctance to get naked and John's adorable chuckles. But as soon as Tatiana touches Arthur, it becomes uncomfortable and I think it was one of the aims of this scene. Also, the second goal was probably to show the dichotomy between Arthur's impulses and the moral codes he tries to follow now that he's married. Nevertheless, I've always thought that Arthur cheating on Linda was an unnecessary and pointless scene? Now, I don't think he was "forced" to have sex. In truth, I feel like he did it due to a combination of pressure (from both his brothers and the masculinity codes of that time) as well as a fear of being seen as weak/unmasculine/not gangster enough. Also, he numbed himself with a lot of vodka so it altered his judgment. But yeah, it was unnecessary and painful to watch. Moreover, John's nasty remarks were super mean.

• Changretta

That little scene between Polly and Luca lives rent-free in my mind. Especially with his little comment about making her dance. Now, I'm not going to expand on this topic 'cause Luca and Heaven will definitely meet in future chapters!

• Arthur's death

"I can’t wait to feel utter happiness when you break Heaven's heart when she hears he is dead" That was so cruel 😂 but I get it and I do already know what's going to happen. Pretty sure it will be painful to read, don't worry about it.

I just heard someone say Wuko is only shipped by straight ppl. And then they went on to say korrasami is only shipped by the gays as if the majority of Wuko shippers don’t actively enjoy korrasami too. Like first of all I’ve seen a lot of queer ppl (including myself) ship wuko. Secondly they act like wuko shippers won’t touch korrasami with a ten foot pole. When it’s the complete opposite. There are so many fics/ fan art that have both pairings in it. It’s like if you dislike the ship just say so and move on instead of covering a chunk of the fandom in a cishet blanket. Sorry for ranting I just have to get this off my chest bc holy moly this is bothering tf out of me

Ok. So at first I was going to answer this quick and simple, but then my brain started thinking about the history and context and it made me wonder if it goes deeper than people not liking the ship and wanting to dunk on it for being "for the straights". Is there more to it than that?

I agree with you. Wuko is not just a ship for straight people. And Korrasami is not just for queer people. And many people ship Wuko as a companion to Korrasami or vice versa, so it's really not accurate to say one is for straight people while the other is for gay people. There's a lot of crossover, regardless of one's gender and sexuality. And it’s kind of exhausting to be told something is “for straight people” and then feel like you have to ‘prove’ you are ‘queer enough’.

All that being said; I wonder if the person/people making this claim has to do with the history of straight women fetishizing gay men, in real life (like the cliche trope of the “gay best friend”), and in anime/manga fandoms (are "yaoi fangirls" still a big thing?).

It's a complicated topic that I don't have a full handle on, so I’m not here to give anyone a lesson on it. I just do my best to listen to the experiences of gay men and avoid behaviors that fetishize or infantalize them. Maybe if we look at it from the perspective of someone has been directly harmed by the fetishization of gay men, I wonder if it could be a defense mechanism to write it off as a ship as being for straight people?

In the real world, there isn't a lot of solid representation of popular, original content depicting gay men in a positive way. Much of the mlm fanwork out there is made by women, for women. Not all, just a lot. A lot of those women are attracted to men- either straight or bi. You can see how hard it may be for a gay man trying to find content that represents his own, lived experiences when much of it made by women who, consciously or unconsciously, create content that is made for other women who are attracted to men.

So, maybe it's just someone who doesn't like the ship, or feels Korrasami is a superior ship. Or maybe it's coming from a place of valid cynicism from the history of straight women fetishising gay men in online fandom spaces. Lesbians and bisexual women have been harmed by exploitive pornographic content made for and by straight men, so I can fully empathize with gay and bisexual men feeling similarly harmed by fandom content.

For the record, I ship Wuko and Korrasami. I am queer. And I identify as a woman. (Maybe. I might be nonbinary but my questioning my gender is not a topic for my Wuko sideblog 🤣). So lots of people, of all genders and sexualities, ship Wuko. I think the important thing is to enjoy the ship and all the fanworks while paying attention to the way we portray them-are we enjoying them as fully developed characters, with realistic flaws and strengths and interactions? Or are we turning them into caricatures of what we imagine gay and bisexual men to be and exploiting the ship for little more than its sexual appeal?

Thank you for reading as I got way off track from the original topic of your ask! You are queer, and you ship Wuko. Someone else implying that you're not queer enough because you ship a pairing that's allegedly for straight people isn't ok, and your queerness and place in the LGBTQ+ community is valid. I have a feeling lots of the followers of this blog also identify as LGBTQ+. Thanks for coming here to get that off your chest. I hope you are able to move on from that comment and be at peace with it! Now go read some fanfic with Wuko and Korrasami!

As I type this the credits are rolling on FF12 and man, what an interesting ride this turned out to be.

It’s flawed as can be, and in ways I never suspected. But that was a really fun romp to be honest, and that’s in no small part because of the remaster’s fast forward feature.

But let me rewind a touch for fun.

When this game came out I was falling away from RPGs for a while in my life, not in a��“sudden distaste” kind of way, more of a “I have x amount of dollars either directly to my name or accounted to me by my parents being kind and this new thing called ‘xbox live’ just came out and Halo 2 is cool!”

So to say I was out of the loop would be an understatement, I’m almost certain I didn’t know this game came out for upwards of a year of its release. When I did find out about it I had assumed it was an MMO due to the very very little I did see of it through possibly G4 at the time, I mean, it LOOKS like an MMO, and I had heard they had made one, so it lined up.

I knew 11 was an MMO so I just assumed FF was dead and they just made MMOs now, and that 12 was like, a new MMO or something. MMOs were a foreign concept to me at the time so this seemed weird but plausible.

Now I said all of that just to say that now that I’ve played it, man I was more right than I suspected and than anyone who told me I was wrong were willing to give me credit for! THIS IS SO CLEARLY a mismatch of MMO concepts they didn’t do for 11 with broken concepts from FFT and FFTA.

This plays 100% like a single player MMO and that is so utterly bizarre and has so many strengths, weaknesses, and potentials to its name that it’s a miracle this is a game that was released and not cancelled for being too complicated to materialize.

It DEFINITELY holds the faults you might expect from that concept, holy moly.

Regions that are WAY TOO BIG FOR NO REASON? YEP!

A severe lack of respect for your personal time? YEP!

Story feels like a backseat ‘flavor’ feature rather than the point of the RPG you’re playing? GOT IT!

And so much more on the negative front, but it still holds the positives.

I also can’t understate how the disrespect to your time is a lot less of a negative with the 4x speed the remaster allows you, but that’s not the game’s direct doing.

Enough of that though. This was a bizarre game, good and bad all in one, flawed as heck but just so mesmerizing in some respects.

I genuinely liked the single player MMO style. I love the general gameplay of an MMO boss and while the main quest bosses are..... severely lacking and mostly auto-play themselves which is really dull, the side hunt bosses offered a bit more to the fun which I enjoyed!

Ah.

Auto playing.

Should mention that in my little wrap up now shouldn’t I?

FF12 has a sort of ‘program your fight’ mechanic through gambits. I mentioned them in an earlier post when I was just starting the game and my general positivity towards them remains!

But man, they are. Not PERFECTLY applied here.

It’s a weird mix of you having too much and too little all at once and the combat itself not really.. doing much with it?

For one, you can’t go in-depth with how you program your units. You can’t say “When Ashe enters combat cast decoy on Ashe” you just say “Cast decoy on Ashe” and accept the fact that a lot of mp will be wasted unless you toggle off your gambit in between combat.

You can’t say “When party hp < 40% cast group wide heal” or, well, anything that would be so situational. It’s pretty bare bones “Heal when under 80%” “Attack nearest enemy” and no real conditionals to be applied outside of the literal conditionals like “If Ally = Poison use Antidote”.

And yet...

The combat is so simplistic and lacking decisions beyond what gambits you set that you can literally, and I practically did, auto-fight through the whole thing bosses included.

I wouldn’t say that’s the worst. I mean, DWM has that going for/against it and I adore how it handles. But this game arguably has less choice than that game and this one lets you pre-program your fights...

It’s, a sticking point. It didn’t ruin my experience and infact was something I admired about the game, but it’s a flawed system so if the flawed part of it bothers you, ho boy will this bother you.

I did enjoy forcing the game to give me some form of a build through this system but the lack of creativity it fully allows (instead relying on you to battle traditionally which is fine) makes it feel like a weird “Not enough power, too much power” feature.

I was able to make it so I had a full tank/dps/healer setup at least and auto fight with that, so it wasn’t all bad. Just. Flawed.

And I’d bet because this system exists is why the main bosses are so bland. Literally every one just falls to auto attacking, heck, THE FINAL FORM OF THE FINAL BOSS is the first real main story fight to have something you might need to micromanage and even then it was just “He’s immune to physical.... okay now he’s immune to magic” but I could have honestly just auto fought and waited out each phase due to how undertuned he seemed.

All the main fights feel extremely underleveled, which isn’t unusual for FF, but in THIS one with the literal auto fight gambit system, it’s noticeable. The hunts were the only real challenge that usually amounted to “tackle them, change my gambits around, win” which felt rewarding to be honest.

But what of the rest of the game outside of the gambits?

Well it’s alright.

I enjoyed the story beats that reminded me of FFT, though they feel a touch front loaded and then spread thin, but that’s the story as a whole to be honest.

It’s a, well, pretty weak one. Remarkably weak one. Painfully weak.

It has beats that remind me of my favorite! But the rest of the story is just “We have to find the mcguffin.” “I hope she doesn’t use the mcguffin for bad” “Oh thank god she didn’t”

With the interesting bits put to the side and kind of entirely ignored? It’s weird. Like they bring up an immortal species of pseudo angels that control all destiny and fate in our world, and the story is KINDA how do we fight fate or do we follow fate, but it’s shoved so far on the back burner that it isn’t even given closure in the end after you defeat the big bad. Logically, we’ve defeated fate and broken ties to those immortals, but we don’t see them after the fact, and we fight and destroy... not them? We fight the rogue immortal and not directly, if anything we killed his puppet and he just said “later” or maybe he merged with the puppet and we did get him, hard to say. But what isn’t is that the entire story beat is wasted and just kinda there.

The story is forgettable as heck, has a lame and frankly ugly final boss, and gets thrown away to say “We did it, hooray!” at the end so it’s lacking closure on that level, but it does have a sense of character based closure so that’s nice. Well, pretty nice.

Can’t say I adored the cast, but I liked them. I really did end up liking them, and the ending is a nice little “Everyone did well even if we grow somewhat apart” story, that’s sweet.

Not sure what else to say. I know in 20 minutes I’ll have more on my mind, and I know I’ve missed my chance to speak on countless moments in this game by virtue of not truly live-blogging the experience since I lack a mouse/keyboard for my main computer (such a bizarre way to lose access). But here’s a closer.

Final Fantasy 12 was a bizarre, flawed, fascinating game. And I truly understand why it’s the one final fantasy I have never had someone talk to me at length about. Because it’s excruciatingly long (without the remaster fast forward), it’s story is dull, and it’s gameplay is experimental in a way I’d argue has more misses than strikes. It’s not a tranwreck, but it’s forgettable if you aren’t one to pick and find intrigue in those weird little decisions like I do.

This was fun.

Long Term Austin Airbnb: Our Real Review

TLDR if you are an Airbnb host and want to learn why you haven’t received Superhost title - read this entire post. Also, if you are considering long term stays with Airbnb, read on.

Our typical stay at a long term Airbnb’s is about 2 months. However, we decided to try 3 months in Texas.

Because I share the mentality that one Texan described as, “Bring it on COVID!” - I’m comfortable with things starting to open. Overall, I would choose the extended stay again, but NOT at the place we stayed.

Here’s my REAL review of our Austin Airbnb that I told my host I would not share, on Airbnb.

First of all, this place claimed to have direct access to Lady Bird Lake. The host showed photos of people kayaking straight off of their dock into the water from, what appeared to me, as the dock connected to the apartment complex that I booked.

WRONG

Despite the title of the listing being “Direct Access to Lake”, what he really meant was a dock down the boardwalk a few apartments over, where you could rent kayaks from a local business.

Because I told him this EASILY qualified for a full refund from Airbnb for being a complete fabrication that could easily be proved with pictures... he immediately changed the name of the listing.

I learned A LOT about Airbnb rules staying there.

This place wasn’t even facing the damn lake. We had incredible amounts of street noise. More than any I’ve had.

It’s right off the I-35 and Riverside drive but in layman's terms, it’s in Manhattan.

Unfortunately, the heating and air was a complete s**t so that didn’t help with the traffic noise reduction or helping us warm up after that insane ice storm.

The oven works great though!

Speaking of kitchen appliances, holy moly, is it such an ask to have a gas stove these days? And if you are going to have an electric stove, can we AT LEAST ask for all four burners to work and that the grills are on straight?

I know, I know, those things require work and this place is supposed to be passive income for Airbnb hosts...

And that’s exactly what some Airbnb hosts are - passive.

Seriously, for anyone considering long term Airbnb. Do not even consider staying somewhere longer than 2 weeks without looking for that SUPERHOST icon.

There are 20 of you that follow this blog which probably isn’t enough to qualify as a paid sponsor. I’m just saying because I care, consider yourself warned. Those hosts earn that title.

Moving onto the biggest headache of daily life for the boyfriend and I...

The shower.

Specifically the bath tub. It was curved like a storm gutter so that you could never stand straight in it without straining your ankles or, in my case, falling out of the damn shower. Plus, why is there paint in the tub that is now peeling?

Needless to say, it was easy to convince my boyfriend who loves the conveniences of the city to make our next stop a peaceful cabin in the mountains with a nice shower.

LOL.

Here is the BIG distinction between our Superhost in Denver and our less than super host in Austin.

Superhost: Just 30 minutes after a random 3 hour long blackout, our Denver Airbnb host text us to make sure we were ok and helped us locate some candles he left for us inside the place.

Less than super host: It took 2 days after loosing all power in the biggest Texas snow storm for our Austin Airbnb host to message us on the app (even though he had my phone number) and ask us if we had any power - and then do absolutely nothing about it.

No candles, no heat, not even an extra blanket! Which is an Airbnb requirement by the way - at least on the back end in the last survey.

Despicable.

We speculate he was only asking to make sure he didn’t end up with one of those $9000 electric bills some unfortunate Texans received.

I could list a few more minor inconveniences, but one of the main things you HAVE to have as a long term Airbnb host is reliable internet.

Yes, Texas is open but we are still hermits for 75% of the week.

We both work from home and are on Zoom just like everyone else. So we bought our own router. I realize this is just one piece of many pieces that need to work. So, please make sure they all work and are fast.

Because of our Austin Airbnb, before we unpack the car for our 2 month stay, we now enter the house and test the internet to make sure we don’t avoid another refund because we don’t feel like packing up the car again...

I wish I had taken the refund when I found the grounds to receive it. It ended up being just one of many let downs at the Austin place.

Side note: I didn’t post this to Airbnb because I like our host as a person. I did have the chance to meet him and, although he is completely oblivious as a host, I wanted to share my experience to others without naming names, so to speak. I did share these things with him in a private message and supposedly he is going to get to them right away.

Positive note: As stated before, Texas was a great place to stay ( minus the ice storm ) and if I had to choose a city to live in for dancing, I would choose Dallas.

Day 1: Have Your Boarding Pass Ready? ✈️

Obviously, the first part of any vacation is getting there, and it was a long first day to say the least. In order to get to our final destination, we had a whole twenty-four (24) travel day ahead of us, and I will break it down for you now.

To start, our group traveled to the nearest international airport, which happened to be Pittsburgh International. We were actually a little bit late to arrive because our driver was late to pick us up from our campus. My head instantly went to the worst and said “oh, so this is how our travel is going to go?”

Spoiler alert: it ended up being fine in the end, but in the moment it was a little nerve-racking.

Anyway, we ended up making it safely to PIT, and we departed for our second destination around 3:30pm in an American Airlines flight. We safely made it into Dallas/Fort Worth International a little before 6:00pm after a flight that was pretty smooth. I will say, however, I had personally not been on a flight since I was two (2) years old. Everyone else in my group seemed pretty calm about the whole situation, and meanwhile I was gripping onto my travel pillow thinking that would save me if something went wrong. Thankfully, I was seated between both of my professors, who are both well traveled, so they helped calm me down tremendously. Once we were in the air, I was fine, but getting in the air and landing were rough for me.

After arriving in DFW, we had nearly five (5) hours to kill at the airport. So, our group broke up into smaller groups, and we sought after the following items; dinner, a nice bathroom, and a place to walk around in preparation for our next flight. My group personally went to China Express, a place I had never been (not to shabby, might I add!), and then I eventually made my way back to our boarding gate for the next flight. A couple people did some shopping, and last minute exchanging of bills, and then the time came for the flight we all dreaded the most.

We left Texas around 10:30pm, and had a nearly eight (8) hour flight ahead of us. Thankfully, I was still seated between my two professors, which really helped calm my nerves. Overnight flights are not cakewalks, though, keep that in mind. It’s a long, stiff process that seemingly never ends, especially because they usually have those screens that show where your plane is located and it seems like it never moves until you’re at your destination.

Regardless, we safely landed in Lima, Peru, after eight (8) hours of slight turbulence the entire way there. Most of us wanted to use the bathroom once we arrived, but the bathroom was a bit preoccupied by someone who didn’t handle the turbulence well. I think you can put two and two together. Once we landed, you would think we would be so happy and able to say “wow, I’m on another continent!” Well, that wasn’t the case. It was extremely hot, we were all sore and tired, and just wanted to get on our last flight, so the glory of Peru did not really hit anyone at this time. We had about four (4) hours to kill at this airport, and we legitimately spent nearly 2 hours in the customs line, so that wait didn’t feel as long as it could have. We hardly had any time to look around the airport, grab breakfast or anything, we just had to get on the next flight.

This third and final flight of the US to Peru trip left around 11:00am, and it was only about an hour long. It was the smoothest flight we had, which I can say I think we were all thankful for. When we landed, we were greeted with humid conditions, a lot of mountains, and people who looked at us kind of funny because we clearly were not like them. But that was the moment it kind of it.

And let me tell you, it was extremely exciting and pretty overwhelming. For me, it didn’t feel like culture shock, but I’m sure that was a part of it. It was just pure adrenaline of seeing things that I wasn’t used to seeing. Our guide, a lovely man named Miguel who we have stayed in touch with since returning, met us at the airport with a van and water. A few of us legitimately said, out loud, that he was an angel. (That ended up being true throughout the whole trip, as well. Truly a fantastic tour guide. But more about him later)

After boarding the van, we took a short drive to our hotel, where we had about an hour and a half to drop our belongings off, freshen up, and grab some lunch before we started our trip events. My roommate and I did various things beforehand and then met up with our group in the lobby to begin our trip.

First, we had a walking tour of Cusco, the town we were staying in. This was to help us get acquainted with the places we would have to be going over the next week, as well as getting our legs and feet used to the natural inclines of the city. We were taught about various buildings, told the history of the area, given time to take pictures, and things of that nature. Pictures of our trip will be scattered throughout the other blog posts, so hang on to your hats for that.

A couple notable things we did during this walking tour were stop at the main square Huacaypata, the Cusco Cathedral, and the Koricancha Inca temple. It really was a lot to take in on the first day, but it was beautiful and informative, to say the least.

Once our tour was over, we were given time to go back to the hotel for a little bit to drop off anything we no longer wanted to carry, and were taken to a beautiful restaurant called Ima Sumaq, where we were given a few choices for meals and just had a nice evening out as a group to end our long first day. It was nice, and I personally had chicken noodle soup, and then lomo saltado as my main meal. I also enjoyed a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. The members of my group had different items, and we all ate most of what we got.

Clearly the plane rides did not diminish our appetites.

And then we made our way back to our hotel rooms. From there, we had a free evening, but most of us chose to sleep the entire night through, since it had been a relatively long thirty-six (36) hours. And we needed our sleep, because the next day began our real adventures.

ummm @kiminguy??? @guanlliver??? @lovebugi??? @wanhyun??? (Mutuals on here and our SVT blogs squad!! LOOL) I love all of them and their graphics to death I will literally make a blog and reblog all of their creations 50 million times like they deserve. Of course they all have such cute personalities dlkgjfdkj but I’ll spare you from my rambling and focus on their beautiful works~ Naomi has such soft, pastel graphics (pastels are one of my fave things in the universe) and she was one of my first favorite graphic makers in the Seventeen fandom back in the day. I followed her first and then when she followed me back I was SOOOO HAPPY OMG BC ONE OF MY FAVES NOTICED ME. Next we have Yasmin and although we haven’t talked much I really adore her graphics because they’re really unique! She uses vibrant colors and dark colors so well (a thing I’d like to learn how to do hehehe) AND also pastel graphics with vibrant coloring… a jack of all trades tbh. Next, there’s Jaymee, who I’ve been mutuals with forever on our SVT blogs but I never really got a chance to talk to until recently! (And she’s the sweetest…my one and only fan….LOOOL). Once again she works with both dark colors and pastel colors very well! Her edits and graphics have a minimalistic approach to them which I admire so so much because I always cram stuff onto a canvas and get bothered when there’s empty space in my graphics. Last but not least there’s IMA!!! My self-proclaimed little sister c’: I’ve known her for most of her time in the Seventeen tumblr community and I love seeing how her works changed over this period of time. But her works always have that special charm and uniqueness that you know right away that it’s her work! No one could imitate her style and pull it off! Inimitable seventeen carat hehe Ima always has a special place in my heart. I love her coloring style, I love her graphics style, I love her. But yea as you can tell I have much love for graphic makers and more especially underrated graphic makers! Graphic makers are a blessing to each and every fandom. Thank you.
