I knew it was coming because I accidentally spoiled myself on the series finale, but that series finale of Bates Motel was so heartbreaking. Why couldn't Norman and Norma just be happy together 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

And another topic, I knew it was going to happen because I know my mom; I watched the series when she was in the room while she was on her tablet watching another show, cause Bates Motel starts off so interesting and strong in its first ep, so ofc, I wanted to keep watching to know what happens. And mom being mom was like 'What you watching?'

Before this btw, she had come into the room like the day before I started watching Bates Motel, while I was watching Psycho the 1960 version and after I told her what the film was she was like, 'Oh, I saw this movie a while back.'

So, going back to me watching Bates Motel when she was in the room, ofc, she got interested in the series because she didn't know a series based on Psycho existed. And what with the craziness of it with already murder or something, it ofc, caught her interest (she likes movies and shows with killers. Lol. I get it from her); from there we started watching it together. I translated for her.

And so, that is how I binged watched nearly all of Bates Motel with my mom in just like 10 days. Whoo. I think she started watching it with me like a few eps in. I think she didn't see the first 3 eps besides the scenes that caught her attention while in the room when I was starting to watch the series.

She be like that. I'm watching tv and she be on her tablet looking at both screens. Lol

And now we are going to watch all the Psycho movies. We got the movie collection. So yayyy!

i think something that frustrates me about ted and rebecca even beyond the whole no-romance thing (crying forever btw 😢) is that they never really got to have a coherent storyline together again after s1 and the christmas episode, and uh ..... i think it would have been cool to have more of those shared between the two leads of the show. like, in a way, i think i would have been more okay with it not being shippy if they'd had more storylines and more of a definitive overall series arc together, because presumably then at least we would have seen them interact regularly enough and in a variety of conditions enough that i would've gotten more of a feel for why it wasn't a romantic thing and what, in fact, it was? i don't know! i just really wish they'd given that dynamic wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more to do and way more interest after s1. it just felt like they were deliberately written to be ships in the night, all the time, no harbor ever, which feels crummy. like, s1 sets them up to be very close friends with these parallel struggles, but then they barely have even a shared b-plot together ever again after the christmas ep. the closest thing is one shared scene followed up by one phone call in 3.08, right? and then the series finale, where they do actually finally have three whole related scenes together, shock of all time.

anyway. so weird. SO WEIRD! such a funky writing choice that i am not a fan of.

#what was the arc post-s1? I HAVE NO IDEA!#why couldn't they have more of an ARC that got ATTENTION?#i think it's just because the show was done with their dynamic as something to explore in-depth after s1 but. ouch.#weird flex as a writing move #dollsome's deep thoughts #ted x rebecca #tedbecca #sorry if this doesn't make any sense. i still have the vestiges of influenza brain!#ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THERE WAS SO MUCH ABOUT THEIR TWO CHARACTERS THEY COULD'VE POTENTIALLY BONDED OVER!#but instead as far as we know they never even found those things out about each other!#including things like if ted ever even frickin' got a frickin' voicemail from her! are we high-maintenance for wanting to find out?#okay i'm shutting up now. i swear.#anyway: objectively i don't think this relationship was well written after s1 #where i found it one of the most well-written onscreen dynamics i'd seen in a long time. weary sigh.

Love In The Air - Three Act Structure

A while back, I wrote a tweet thread on the story structure of MeMindY’s popular BL series, Love in the Air, specifically how romance-as-plot is used. Here is that thread:

I half-witnessed a Twitter stoush a few days ago, which prompted me to post a thread, and now, this post.

A bit of background - someone was tweeting about how much they loved BL drama Love In The Air (13ep series on iQiYi and Viki), and Twitter being Twitter, someone yucked their yum and bitched about how it basically had no plot. *sigh* so here we go, my 2c on story structure and how it applies to Love In The Air (it’s a breakdown of Payu and Rain’s story, which is the first 7 eps. Prapai and Sky feature in eps 8-13).

Fact: BL are stories about love. It's literally there in the descriptive, "boy love". No love? No plot. By definition,'plot' is a series of events that happen from beginning to end. And here's the thing - romance-as-plot has been around for centuries. It's the backbone of the billion-dollar romance novel industry. Just because there's no dead body, or people running from bad guys, or world disaster, or vampires taking over the city, doesn't mean there's no plot. The romance IS the plot.

Romance in BL is a must-have. Imagine picking up a murder mystery novel and not getting a murder or a mystery. A crime story with no crime to be solved. A romance novel must have A ROMANCE: two (sometimes more) people meet, encounter obstacles to their love, overcome their issues/obstacles, fall in love, admit love, end up happy. That's it. It's as simple and as complex as this. So let's apply storytelling structure to Love In The Air and see why it fits perfectly into the romance genre.

Act 1 (Set Up) Ordinary World - Our main characters are doing their thing in their normal, everyday world. Hot seme Payu is racing bikes, doing architect stuff and working in his garage. Bratty-but-cute uke Rain is a 1st year architecture student, crushing on a disinterested girl. Payu is a senior at Rain's school and a bit of a legend. All the students are heart-eyes for him, and that pisses Rain off.

Big Picture Question - will Payu and Rain fall in love and end up together?

Call to Adventure - Payu makes it clear he fancies Rain.

Refusal of the Call - Rain does not want, plays hard to get.

Acceptance of the Call - Rain and bestie Sky break into a private street race event, Payu rescues him. This pisses Rain off and now he wants to show his classmates Payu isn't all that. Tells Payu he will make him fall in love with him.

ACT 2 (All the Stuff Happens) Crossing the Threshold - with Payu accepting this challenge, Rain is now part of Payu's world.

Learning the Rules - Payu lays down the ground rules if Rain wants to see him - no cursing, call or text before showing up.

Mentors/Allies/Enemies - Rain's bestie, Sky, plus his school mates. Payu's bestie Prapai, and his bro, Saifah, plus the garage workers. Bad guy, Stop. And Chai, the 2IC for the rich street racer owner.

Trials/Failures/Successes - Rain has to swallow his pride and follow Payu's rules. Rain steps from his comfort zone and publicly declares he's pursuing Payu. Rain stops focusing on school, fails to submit an assignment. Payu chastises him for neglecting his studies. Rain works hard and finally gets praise for an assignment, and Payu is the first person he wants to tell.

Point of No Return - Rain's reward for his hard work is intimacy, praise and lovemaking. Payu accepts Rain can 'stand by his side'. This is further emphasised when Rain (a submissive uke) takes a more dominant role in the bedroom (btw their love scenes are fire)

-----> Story midpoint <---------

Escalation of Intimacy - talking, sharing of thoughts, ideals, emotions. Rain makes the first move with intimacy/kissing. Is no longer bothered being known as 'Payu's boy.' Also known as ‘removing the armour’ which is where our lovers are relaxed and trusting of the other enough to reveal the inner emotional stuff - secrets/dreams/hopes/trauma etc.

Oh Shit Moment - Rain is abducted by asshole Stop, which is revenge for having lost a bike race to Payu. Payu is forced to bow, is beaten up and it looks like our heroes won't get their happy ending???

Act 3 (New Improved World)

But Then, Victory - Chai to the rescue, Stop is stopped (ha!), Payu and Rain are saved.

Return to the New, Improved Ordinary World - Admission of love between Rain and Payu. Rain publicly declares Payu is his boyfriend in front of all his friends. Big Picture Question is answered and PayuRain get their happy ever after.

So there you have it - boys meet, overcome their emotional issues, fall in love, face challenges, admit love, finally get a HEA. This is a classic romance story in a nutshell.

FYI, I developed these 3 Act stages using a combination of Christopher Vogler's A Hero's Journey, and Michael Hague's 6-Act story structure. They are both experts and veterans in story telling structure.

synposis: with his best friend asking him for help because said best friend was scared he wasn't "boyfriend material" enough, heeseung looks for flower shops for his best friend's girlfriend. thankfully, jake knows someone from the university who has an aunt that owns a flower shop, you. now, heeseung messages you and shyly, but shamelessly asks if he can get any promos or discounts to which you shamelessly answered him, "buy one, take me". heeseung doesn't pass on this, of course. after all, you are pretty damn cute.

pairing: heeseung x flortist!fem!reader

months passed by ever since you came back and you and heeseung didn’t waste anymore time. he finally asked the long overdue question of being his girlfriend, you immediately said yes, not even letting him finish the sentence. he asked you if you wanted to move in with him, you said yes, of course and now his horrible flower arrangement that you still take care of very dearly is now on the dining table.

you two caught up with each other, of course. with the deal of catching up right after the wedding, you and heeseung—still in your long dress and him in his tux—went around town. heeseung finally got to take you in that field full of flowers he always went to when he misses you too much. now, it’s where you two always go to. you even watched the sunrise and sunset there. you also had the idea of going back to your university, to wear your togas because you two never had a picture together when your batch graduated.

and just like back then, heeseung would drop you off to work as he would go to the hospital and when the day ends, he picks you up and you two would laze around. every day off was spent together, sometimes sunoo and jungwon would drop off, saying you two owe them a lot for doing their best of getting the two of you back together.

eight months later, heeseung’s eyes flutter open as the sun rays have no trouble getting in the room. he sighs, closing his eyes as he turns around, arm extending to your spot. which is empty. heeseung opens his eyes to see the big space of the bed. he sits up, looking around, only seeing the two cats that he impulsively adopted three years ago. “y/n, flower?” heeseung calls, but no answer. no, no, no, no.

heeseung jumps off the bed, opening the door as he looks around the apartment. you’re not in the living room, not in the kitchen. nowhere. he goes back in the room, opening the closet to see your clothes. where the fuck are you?

“hey,”

he turns around, seeing you in your pajamas, with his white bathrobe on. you were standing right outside the bathroom. heeseung sighs in relief, running his fingers through his hair. you knew it right away.

“i’m here, i’m sorry.” you say, walking towards him as you pull him in a hug. heeseung wraps his arms around your waist, resting his cheek on your head. “i’m sorry. i’m not going anywhere, okay? never doing that again.”

“i’m sorry.” heeseung softly says. “i trust you, i just really get paranoid.”

“no, no, no. i get you.” you softly say, looking up at him as he looks at you. you press a kiss on his chin and he smiles. “what do you want for breakfast?”

“anything.” he answers.

“anything,” you repeat and he hums. “sunoo’s mint choco—”

“anything, but that.” heeseung cuts you off, making you laugh. “come on, let’s find whatever we can.” he says, holding your hand as he pulls you with him to the kitchen.

“not ramen, okay?” you say and heeseung whines. “we already had ramen yesterday.”

after hours of lazing around, you two went down to the field of flowers to watch the sunset, sitting on the ground where heeseung laid a blanket for you two. you noticed your boyfriend acting weird as he keeps touching the left side of his blazer on the chest area. “seungie,” you call and he hums, subtly touching his chest on the left side. “you okay?”

“yeah, why?” he asks, touching the same spot again and you look at it, then back to him.

“are you sure?” you ask and he nods, kissing your cheek as he pulls you closer to him as you two watch the sun set with the moon on the opposite side. it was getting dark, the skies turning pink. it was always beautiful here around this time, but you couldn’t focus because of your boyfriend being weird.

“yes,” he nervously chuckles. “you? you okay?”

“mhm,” you softly hum. “actually, i’m a bit cold.” you lie through your teeth and heeseung frowns. “can i borrow?” you ask, softly tugging on his blazer to which he removes, but he stops when his hand brushes on the spot that he’s been patting over and over again for the past hour that you’ve been here.

“no,” he says, fixing it back and you look at him weirdly. “can i hug you instead?”

you chuckle, shaking your head as you turn back to the sun. “it’s really beautiful, isn’t it?” you say and heeseung nods, but his eyes weren’t on the sun. they were on you. always on you.

“the best view.” he says and you look at him to see he didn’t even look at the sunset. “i lo-view.” he says, wiggling his eyebrows as he laughs and you try to scowl at him, but the corners of your mouth are lifting up. he touches the left side of his chest again and you look at him. he only smiles at you and you chuckle.

“come here,” you mumble, holding your hands out to which he comes forward, fitting his face in between your hands as he presses his lips against yours. your hands slide up to his hair, softly running through his locks until it decides to rest on heeseung’s nape. heeseung tilts his head to avoid bumping his nose against yours as he rests an arm around your waist and the other hand on your arm.

slowly, your hand comes down to his sternum as you keep kissing him. then, your slowly slide your hand under the blazer to which heeseung immediately grabs your hand before you can even touch what it was he’s been patting.

you giggle against his lips as he keeps kissing you. “no.” was the only thing heeseung said with a chuckle as he kept kissing your lips.

you laugh, but heeseung didn’t stop kissing your lips nor did you pull away and open your eyes. “seungie,” you softly say, giggling. “please?” you sweetly ask and he hums.

“five more minutes,” he says against your lips, moving impossibly closer as he clips your hand in between his knees which makes you laugh louder, but still, he doesn’t stop kissing you. “don’t judge me. you never kissed you.” he mumbles, tilting his head on the other side as he keeps kissing you. “if you did, you would understand.”

as you kiss him back, your free hand attempts to go to his blazer again, but heeseung grabs it right away, intertwining his fingers with yours. “seungie,” you softly giggle, but he still kept kissing you. “honey,” you say and even though you didn’t want to, you pulled away. “come on.”

“one more?” he says and you shake your head causing him to sigh. “okay, i should just get over it.” he says more to himself, turning to you. “do you think we’re insane for not taking our relationship slow?”

you chuckle. “seungie, we weren’t together for six years. when we said taking things slow, we literally took it to another level.” you say and heeseung chuckles. “we’re doing good right now, right?”

he nods, pressing his lips into a thin line. you look at him to see him keeping his eyes down. you softly sigh, hand reaching out to his blazer. this time, he doesn’t stop you. you reach the inner pocket, feeling the velvet fabric of the small box. you grab it, pulling it out of his blazer as you look at it, then to heeseung who was just avoiding your eyes.

“talked to anyone about this?” you ask.

“jay,” he answers. “and… felix.”

you nod. “what did they say?” you ask.

“we waited for each other for six years, they don’t see a problem with it.” heeseung says and you nod. “but… we never talked about it before and maybe i’m jumping way ahead of you or… maybe we’re moving too fast? i don’t know.”

“what do you think?” you ask.

“i don’t want to do anything if you’re—”

“don’t think about me, heeseung.” you say, shaking your head as you point your finger to him. “what do you think about our relationship? are we moving too fast? slow? what?”

heeseung looks at you, sighing. “i think we’re fine,” he says. “we’re great. we love each other, we fixed everything. you’re my soulmate, you’re my best friend, you’re my missing piece. i… i just feel so great when i’m with you and there’s nothing to wait for, right? you said back then, time doesn’t really matter. what we feel for each other doesn’t increase because of time. it increases because of how safe we feel with each other and how we keep on getting to know each other everyday.” heeseung chuckles nervously, looking at you. “on the practical side, we’re both happy with our jobs, our positions. we’re both financially stable. we’re good, i know that. i know you said not to think about you, but that’s the only missing thing. how do you feel about this?”

you press your lips into a thin line, looking at him. heeseung feels the difficulty in deciphering what you think, but he knows, if you’re not ready, you’ll let him down easy and talk to him properly. because that’s what made you two great, proper communication.

you move, facing him as you get on your knees, sitting on the back of your feet. you take his hand, looking at him as you place the box on his hand. “do it.” you softly say and heeseung looks at you, processing what you just said. you lightly raise your brows and he immediately gets in the same position as you, facing you.

“i’ve practically said my speech,” heeseung starts and you softly laugh. “but most of the times, i feel scared with every move that i make, in fear of doing something wrong. but with you, i just have to talk to you and i’m just not scared anymore. there are things we know are wrong, but sometimes, we just have to make mistakes to get where we want. and i don’t know where the hell my speech is leading because i don’t feel like i’ve done any mistakes when i’m with you—oh, well, except when i denied my feelings for you.”

you smile at him which made his smile bigger.

“but the moment i admitted my feelings for you, everything fell into place. shit happened and i’m willing to go through them again as long as the other end leads to you.” heeseung says, opening the box and turning the ring to you. “so, would you like to spend the rest of your life with me? you can have this ring as a freebie.”

you and heeseung laugh at his line. “you know ‘will you marry me’? they’re still okay!” you laugh and heeseung joins along, shrugging. “of course, seungie. i would love to spend the rest of my life with you.” you smile and heeseung takes the ring off the box, holding your hand as he slides it with ease on your ring finger. “it fits perfectly.”

“yeah, i secretly measured your finger when you were sleeping.” heeseung says and you giggle. you cup his jaw, pressing your lips against his and heeseung kisses back right away. “you wanna get married now? town hall is just near.” he says against your lips and you laugh, causing him to smile wide.

“you’re crazy.”

“only for you.”

PREVIEW IS RAISING PAINFUL FAMILY ISSUES

Maybe the most hard to write analysis, because I totally understand topics like divorced parents, hardworking mother, problematic older brother and all those psychological little things someone probably didn't even notice. Day's family is like trigger bingo for me and that's... interesting.

1. Let's start with the most controversial part.

Day and Mhok will come back home, I guess MUCH later than they planned and also with bad news about Day's eyes condition. Many people keep writing about Day's mother being too harsh, that she's always busy making money and can't understand how much Mhok loves Day.

You can see that in this scene every character has tears in their eyes. They all have their own truth as well.

Day loves Mhok and wants to be more independent and he's right.

Mhok loves Day and want to take care of him and he's right.

Day's mother loves Day and want him to not be hurt and she's right.

That's why this scene is so heartbreaking.

We already know about Mhok and Day's love, but look at Day's mother perspective! She was officially married, gave birth to two boys and still that wasn't enough for that man not to leave her for another woman letting her and her sons craving for food. Now you want this woman to accept that her completely blind younger son has a romantic relationship with a man she barely knows. Not even mentioning Mhok's background and financial status. For her the word "love" will never ever be enough to agree with this whole situation.

So Mhok wants to quite (and that is also right), Day can't bare the thought of loosing him even for a day now that he knows how it feels to love and be loved. P'MHOK PROMISED HE WON'T LET GO OFF OF DAY'S HAND will think Day of course. However things has already changed and Mhok will be standing outside the door:

Mhok was allowed to join this family sometimes on definite terms. Day's mother already told him that there're only three of them and those who breakes this rule is not welcomed anymore.

And for those who thinks Day and Mhok is gonna break up. Nah, not these guys. They'll be together next episode.

2. Begin again

I really appreciate the idea of giving Mhok a chance to change his life completely. When talking about Last Twilight being a series that gives hope we need to mention that no person is qualified for only one job. No matter how old are you, no matter what you studied in the uni, you can find something new you really like to do and make it your job.

Btw, could you think of that Mhok who aggressively fixed a chair becoming a chef?! The best plot twist ever haha

Also need to mention the bag in Day's hand. I have a strong feeling that Day can leave home after arguing with his mother (not blame both of them actually).

3. Love love love

It's not Last Twilight if we don't have some funny and bright scenes after some angst like rainbow after the rain.

They're in love, your honor!

It's pretty interesting that Day is painting something after meeting his father (who's an artist). Did you know that visually impaired people can be painters too?

This scene also gave us a lot of BTS shots, so we can assume that Night and Phojai will be somehow there with Day and Mhok, yay!

I like her Kiss t-shirt, she's a badass!

4. Another scene?

Now I want to tell you something about the scene we didn't see in a preview, but already have some hints for it.

One of the most beautiful picture in the whole series. Do you remember the bag? It's here, right beside Day!

I can't show everything with screenshots (and too lazy to make gifs so really appreciate everyone who makes it), but Mhok looks kinda sad listening to Day in this scene. Maybe Day needs to go back home? Oh maybe they just discussing some serious things? Who knows!

And that's all for this episode 10.

I don't like the idea of having ep 11 curse after having already like four or even more heart wrenching episodes... However we still didn't see that crying Mhok from the trailer. And moreover there's another hint for something terrifying, we just don't know yet if it's future or past. I don't think I'm ready for this sh*t if it's gonna happen later. Once I've noticed it I can't stop thinking of this moment and also can't make myself to discuss it. Let's just trust in P'Aof. And prepare some money for going to Thailand.

RANDOM THOUGHTS: Old Fashion Cupcake ep. 5

After the confession in the previous episode, I can’t wait to see Nozue’s reaction.

It starts where it left off in the previous episode.

Togawa is so sure Nozue will reject him that he’s basically begging to keep his job after his confession. That breaks my heart.

I understand that Nozue might need some space after that, but watching him leave and then see Togawa cry even more broke my heart. (But I love the heartbreak and the pain (in fiction, btw), so this is heaven for me.)

Is Nozue back to smoking again?

Oh, the emotional vibes at the office. Delicious.

The way they’re avoiding each other and each other’s gazes. Delicious.

Maybe this offer of a promotion (or relocation) is his way of getting out of being Togawa’s boss (so he can be something more).

The way Nozue was staring at Togawa and spacing out… I mean, who can blame him?

The look on Togawa’s face when he heard that Nozue might be leaving almost made me cry (and I’m not a crier).

And, of course, that put Togawa into action mode and took Nozue out of that restaurant just to find out the truth from the source.

Yes! Nozue finally realizes his feelings.

He said he’s not athletic. Yet, he’s running faster than the flash. That’s what the motivation of love can do to you.

That shot in the alley with the light behind them is so pretty.

That confession from Nozue was real and beautiful.

Oh, too bad we didn’t get to see what happened when they got home that night.

Those pancakes look soooooo goooood.

The fact that Nozue ends the series in a three-piece suit! He wants his man to think he looks good.

What a short and sweet series this was. I loved the chemistry between the characters, there were some great scenes (especially the one take of Togawa’s confession in ep. 4), and great acting. Loved it.

See I had written a reply to my own post and then got distracted making a cup of tea and then the draft never saved because I’m not smart but bUT OKAY so it includes Joel too because this dynamic Rlly can work without him but he is my special little princess and I think he deserves some friends. Anyways

Pix, False and Joel all have two themes that really connect them. History, and Loneliness. There’s an air of loneliness in all of their series (yes even pix who has a more nebulous character that isn’t really a character listen. He has one when the other empires rulers are around. Which is enough for me)

False not knowing where she is, when she is, how she got here, it’s scary, she’s alone, all these people must have lived here before right? I mean she hid from everyone else until she knew it was safe to come out, she’s living a lonely experience, and has no mark really on the world before arriving there. She misses her home, and because Oli is. Trapped in goblin jail as of before his second episode releases today, she has no idea he exists, that he’s similar to her in anyway shape or form. Neither of them want to be here really, and they both just want their friends and family back. I could talk about the Oli and False similarities, but I would be waiting to watch Olis ep whenever that drops.

Pix is all about the past, his “character” is an Archeologist, not a ruler, Hes studying the past, and the past is a lonely place, he lives in the catacombs of a long gone society that he’s slowly breathing life into, and only NOW has gotten a few companions in the form of the dodo’s, instead of having no history, he has a harvest of it, bringing life to places and even creatures that were long gone. There’s an air of loneliness to the ancient capital, but there’s also love and care. It’s not stagnant, its not going to be forgotten again, pix has been spending his season making sure these things can’t be forgotten, preserving them.

Joel is a bit harder to explain, mainly because yes, He's been making shit up as he goes, but it makes all of the Actually Juicy stuff so much more interesting. He’s a god, an immortal god, a man so entrenched in history it’s really hard to actually separate his character as a fixture of the world. He’s lived so long he’s forgotten the names, faces, appearances of the people he lived with, who he knew. Joel lives in a silent, floating city, no bustling life, nothing but cold winds and the distant sounds of civilization so far down it doesn’t make much of a difference. Joel has no history he can remember, and no one around him aside from Hermes occasionally, even sausage only really talks to him through signs when it’s time to pass over Hermes.

And it’s so interesting, these three characters are so similar in their themes, but it’s their approach to their tragedy that sets them apart. Joel copes with being a bully, He's loud, brash, he uses comedy as a coping mechanism, and it works outwardly sure. But he’s not been making any friends really, he’s not got anyone aside from sausage who will back him up. False From what I can tell, kinda stays out of everyone’s way (I’m making my way through falses series I promise I’ll get there it’s Very Hard when you’re watching like 6 empires povs, and 8 hermit povs at the same time) and from all of the people I watch, false isn’t anything but a balloon on the bridge until she ran into pix. And Pix, copes by continuing his work, he’s the most well attuned of the three, he talks to the empire rulers, but mostly sticks with his dodos and preservation and conservation efforts.

All three of them could have SUCH COOL FUCKING INTERACTIONS. an Archeologist helping a god remember the people who he knew before he was the last one left, a woman who hasn’t had the chance to learn much of anything getting impromptu lessons on the world. They could go insane with it. They should. I want them to go insane with it. An amnesiac isekai protagonist, a god who’s lived so long he’s the last left and is dealing with a lonely eternity, and their best friend SOME GUY who likes history and has massive birds

I actually have a ton of Sonic hot takes and rare opinions outside of Eggman related stuff btw

a few examples-

Jason Griffith is my least fav Eng Sonic voice of all three main game VAs

Vandalize is one of my least fav vocal tracks in the series for the vocals, instrumental, lyrics, everything

the Cyberspace stages aren’t any better and are actually far inferior to like every single Forces level so I don’t get why Forces haters are pretending they are

I don’t like the Frontiers soundtrack much at all outside of the boss vocal songs tbh. esp don’t understand the hype for most of the Cyberspace music

Frontiers is an okay game but isn’t miles better than any of the games in the past 13 years (I like pretty much all of those more than Frontiers actually lol). and Sonic isn’t suddenly “back” or “good again” with it, he didn’t go anywhere and didn’t stop being good. y’all just haven’t even revisited them in a while if at all and let YouTubers decide for you

Sonic Forces is far from the worst Sonic game. not one of the best in my eyes but it’s overhated af for a decent game

I love Colors in every area with some level design aspects aside and don’t understand the deep violent burning hatred fans have suddenly gotten for it in recent years

Pontaff’s writing was never that bad at any point and the humor and dialogue isn’t anything drastically different or worse to the type that has already been in the games to some extent both before and after they wrote for them

I love Sonic 4 ep 1 and 2

Shadow 2005 is one of the best games and stories in the series

Secret Rings is an epic game in every way and fun to play and there’s a lot about it that I like more than Black Knight

the Werehog is epic and his gameplay is a blast

Sonic Heroes is the best gameplay style on par with the Adventure games for the team gameplay dynamic and abilities when utilized properly which a lot of people don’t do

and way more. I’m not a contrarian on purpose but I’m never beating the allegations. I’m just cursed to always have the most unpopular opinions and feel like the odd one out lol

pros:

the cast is awesome!

the acting was good from everyone, though the ones who impressed me the most were my already faves off, pat, nanon, mild & lookjun, who especially slayed considering it was her first main role! they didn't have to go that hard for this show lol

the aesthetics of this show are beautiful, be it the lighting, locations and especially the outfits! each girl's wardrobe was incredibly gorgeous!

cons:

GIRLLLLLLLLLLL. the writing!!! this is one of the worst writings from gmmtv, like... ever bruh! let's analyse everything that's wrong with it:

this show is some of the worst marketing failure ever. they really done advertised a silly 6-stories romcom like a dark, mysterious murder drama bruh!!! so when the viewers started watching the show, obviously we were not gonna like it & feel like it's super surface-level & dumb, bc they had built up our expectations for a completely different show. if this show has been advertised to be in the same vain as the three gentlebros for example, we would've have accepted its three gentlebros writing. but the issue is that we expected something on the level of ps: I hate you & we didn't get anything near that.

focusing on each story one after the other impacted everything badly in this show. first of all, it makes it so every ship (except pineaugust bc they got the most screentime) looks rushed AS HELL, especially the earlier ones like lee & mook, so the romance that we were supposed to feel? isn't here babes. secondly, bc each story is so separated, the link between them feels close to non-existent and the friendship between the jungle guys feel stick thin. MOREOVER!!! since each story is so separate, once a ship get together we barely ever see them on the show again, and the later characters like nathee, hack & pine, whose stories only start by ep 8 feel non-existent during the first part of the show! you literally cannot win with this way of doing the show lol. ALSO!!! bc each story is separate, every viewer had their favorite and the one they don't care about, which means that some entire eps were super boring & people got mad some ships got better development & screentime than others.

they made their female characters look so fucking dumb & useless, oh my lord. honestly it's even more insulting considering the same team created some of the most interesting & complex female characters ever in ps: I hate you, like... makes me wonder what they were on for this. only august is written with layers & an interesting storyline, and florence is alright since she flips the usual conventions of the male lead pursuing the female lead relentlessly on its head.

the male characters aren't much better, there's so many cringy parts where they try to look cool & be defenders of women but it doesn't work at all when they've been established as players who don't respect women. btw they look pathetic bc we are TOLD that they are players but never SHOWN so they have no credibility, also I love the boys & they're all good looking or whatever but idk they weren't emanating this cool, badass energy the showrunners wanted us to feel lol.

leemook's story gave me nothing. it was the most disappointing bc it was the first so that's when I realized my expectations of a gritty series wouldn't happen, but even then not only is their story basic but there's nothing to it, it's so basic & forgettable.

the nanonpunpun story was alright, imo naanfah was probably the most interesting male character in the show (he's black from not me but in a different font lmao), but their story was rushed & didn't have a satisfying conclusion at all. also they didn't really have much chemistry compared to nanonmild imo. lastly, bc their story is so early in the show but contains what was set up as the center of the show, kaewta's murder... once it's done & we know the truth we're just left like... alright there's 8 eps left, what's even the point lol. their story should've been done differently & solved at the end imo.

the plot twist of nanon playing twins... could've been good if it was actually a plot twist??? bc the viewer is aware there's two nanon characters it just fell so flat, the reveal to punpun's character seems so ridiculous & straight out of a low-tier lakorn from 50 years ago bc the viewer is not surprised one bit bruh.

hack's character is so icky & terrible. not only is he INTRODUCED into the show using his power imbalance to fuck a student's mother, but then he has sex with irin while she's blackout drunk & thinks he's pine, which is... r*pe obviously. but then he keeps playing these games & he's just fucking terrible & icky and made me feel so gross while watching this, which is such wasted potential since he actually had really great chemistry with lookjun. but yeah throw his whole character in the trash!

nathee & florence's story is so rushed & underdeveloped, which is kinda sad bc they had good chemistry & also were very fun together. but also tbh florence's insistance on having sex with nathee when he said no 500 times is literally coercion babes, if florence was a man doing this to a girl we wouldn't find it cute.

also please for the love of god luke I'm rooting for you, but why did you have to growl like a werewolf everything you wanted to look hot & angry 😭 this man is so unserious as an actor, wishing him luck in getting better lmao

as for the augustpine storyline, imo it should've started and ended the show. the "past" should've been at the beginning of the show so that 1) we immediately get context of what brought the jungle guys together and 2) we actually FEEL the 10 years wait that pine had to feel on the show for august to come back. it would've given so much more weight to the show imo.

would I rewatch it: only the offpat parts

This was in my top 5 shows I was the most looking forward to watch this year, and goddamn did it disappoint all of my expectations except for offpat being one of the best ships ever. I would not recommend this show except for the pineaugust storyline, honestly don't bother.

Yh i agree about people s obsession with new duos. And don t get me wrong, sometimes new and unexpected duos are great, i m talking to the treebark burner account! Ranchers were also great, and totally out of nowhere. But i think people are a bit too obsessed with 1 creating new duos and names in order to portray new narratives and theories and 2 making every close relationship romantic or familiar, as if close friendships, qprs or just good ol' rivalries did not exist 3 ignoring female ccs, even more so when it gets in the middle of a ship (this happens with women in every single piece of media btw).

Male-female friendships (or ships) are often ignored bc i feel a lot of fans feel as if these fanon relationships are somehow more "real" and not roleplay bc they are a "straight couple" (c'mon people, most of us are queer what are you doing with this mentality?), and are more likely to assume you ship the creators and not the characters, or worst, to actually assume the ccs are together irl (which was the reason some female ccs were against shipping in the 1st place). Re: this point, I will give an special mention to bee duo though, the fans really assumed they liked each other irl, which was very creepy considering they were underage at the time.

F/F ships are also often snubbed, although lately i ve seen them become a lot more popular, such as nature wives and more recently Gem & Pearl (ik the ship has a name, but i ve decided to ignore it bc we are better than that), which has been satisfactory to see. Still a long way to go though.

Hope i have explained myself correctly 👉👈 english s not my 1st language so i m kind of nervous about dping such a long post about such a complex issue. Feel free to correct me

you're so right about male-female friendships and especially in this fandom. i feel like m/f shipping in this sphere (outside of the obvious lizzie/joel) is seen as taboo bc it could leak into m/f irl shipping. at least that's why i was squicked out for like two years. esp bc m/f irl shipping was / is a problem (for example, i still see ppl asking in their public yt comments if stress and iskall are together. during hc2 people thought mumbo and false were dating when he was like 17 and she was in her early twenties and it's just fucking weird to truth in people's comments).

(unrelated to this discussion but i will always be salty that the antihcshippers never bring up the point of REAL AND ANNOYING M/F IRL SHIPPING IN COMMENTS and instead bully scar/grian shippers on twitter or whatever. really shows that they never cared about cc's "boundaries" or feelings and just want that fandom moral superiority. quick have you been to comment sections of eps posted by the women in like 2017. have you seen the random twitch chatters.)

the fanon side of m-f friendships/ships in hc is interesting bc pre gem and pearl, the three women had their "designated guy bestie that they always collab with" and it's quite obvious who: stress-iskall, cleo-joe, false-ren (to a lesser extent cub). former two are basically the only prominent m/f ships (iskall in particular plays into it). i had talked to ppl in dms about why false/ren isn't prominent and my main theory is what i call the yaoi shield bc ren is shipped with a lot of men LMFAO (also something something about ren/iskall and false/stress being complements to avoid the "boring" m/f shipping).

but i still wish m-f friendships get more recognition 😔 like if you're not shipping them in the character sense, there's no risk of being seen as irl shipping, so technically it's no different from same gender friendships, right? 🤡 and i do not like the instant "siblingification" to create a fanon familiar bond to avoid shipping. like sometimes it works. a lot of the time it doesn't. people can just be friends. and they all are actually friends.

ok, more of a tangent here, but dug up an old ass convo from 2021 in which there was a point like "sometimes romantic relationships can happen between ccs and it is definitely more feasible than ccs becoming family via marriage/adoption" and i said "so technically 'shipping hcs' are less weird than 'same family hcs'. hm". soooo 🤡🤡🤡 it's totally fine if you don't wanna ship, but it is also TOTALLY fine to keep them as friends instead of siblings / family hcs. i think this fandom has enough awareness now to know you mean friends when you portray them as friends.

i'm happy to see more yuri bc yuri is almost always the least popular in fandoms. but i think m/m and f/f also has the vibes of "less likely to be perceived as irl shipping so we can go wild" while m/f character shipping is still treated with caution? and people really don't want ccs to misinterpret it as irl shipping? tbh i feel like the modern day fandom has gone into "god forbid a man and a woman are friends" that m/f is seen as the "boring" "cop-out" and it goes all the way around. like yeah sometimes it's boring. but not the point of it being nonexistent lmfao like m/f could be funnnnn!!!!!! and they can be queer too!! bi4bi, t4t!!!! or they can just be hetero idk!!

I am doing very minor revisions of Daemon’s Handbook (mostly formatting and continuity errors), and I wanted to do some behind-the-scenes commentary before too much time passes and I forget my original thoughts. Here’s Chapter 6!

(Note that these commentaries aren’t canon to the verse until/unless the author writes them into the series. I might change my mind on a few points later, but these are the thoughts I had while writing.)

This was the first chapter that really made me worry about tonal shift in this story. We get into some more serious topics than usual, but it was necessary to address them in a somewhat serious manner. But I wanted to make sure the fic stayed in the comedy category. So I ended up doing a sandwich method with funnier bits at the beginning and end, and keeping the serious drama concentrated in the middle. But I also tried to weave in Daemon’s sassy mental commentary etc. to prevent things from getting too heavy.

During the course of this fic, Daemon /thinks about cutting/threatens to cut off at least 5 of Aegon’s body parts. Three of those incidents happen in this chapter alone.

I spent A LOT of time thinking about the Hightowers’ reaction to the elopement, because I admittedly did not plan it well when I started the fic. In the show, Alicent hated the Jace/Helaena match because Jace is a bastard and Alicent would have to sacrifice her daughter as a potential hostage. In this verse, it’s the other way around with Jace as the daughter, and legitimate to boot, so Alicent doesn’t have much to object to. On the contrary, I think Alicent *likes* Jace in this verse because Jace is very well-behaved and is a good influence on Aegon. If Alicent disapproves of the elopement, it’s because elopements are scandalous and, more importantly, it makes Helaena look bad as Aegon’s original betrothed. Thankfully, Helaena is a huge Jacegon shipper and totally not offended.

Otto’s reaction was pretty straightforward once I thought about it. In the show, he suggested betrothing Rhaenyra and Aegon, which would have united their claims and prevented bloodshed (one hopes) while getting his blood on the throne eventually. The Jacegon match does the same thing one generation later. And in the worst case scenario, the Greens have Jace as a hostage since usually the wife moves in with her husband’s family (one of the reasons Daemon hates the match).

Someone in a discord server suggested that maybe Otto planted the idea of elopement in Aegon’s head (they were of the opinion that Otto would be the #1 Jacegon shipper in this verse), which would be *hilarious*, but I haven’t decided if that actually makes sense. But if I could somehow make it work, that would be fantastic lol (Can you imagine Otto yelling at Aegon “just seduce the girl, dammit” 😂😂😂)

Rhaenyra is the one who has reasons to protest the match because, as she says in the chapter, she thinks Aegon would be a bad husband. She’s also been dealing with Otto’s attempts to betroth Jacegon since Jace was born, so she is kind of tired and wary of it whenever it’s mentioned. She knows Jace likes Aegon, but she thinks it’s a “good girl crushing on a bad boy” thing that Jace will grow out of. (I’m imagining a crushing conversation where Rhaenyra explains to 6-year-old Jace why she can’t marry Aegon 😢)

And Viserys makes things worse, as always, by betrothing Aegon and Helaena, which makes zero people happy. Viserys was supportive of the Jacegon match when the Hightowers proposed it, but Rhaenyra objected so he didn’t press the issue. (It’s not like he’s the king or anything, right?)

Btw I forgot that Viserys loses his hand sometime before Ep 6, so in this verse, we’re going to pretend he decays less slowly and still has both hands because he’s less stressed or something.

The image of burrito!Rhaenyra strapped to Dreamfyre makes me giggle. She’s determined to be in King’s Landing for whatever conversation happens about Jace, but she’s postpartum so she can’t sit on Syrax as usual, then Helaena offers to take her on Dreamfyre if the Dragonkeepers can make what is essentially an adult car seat. Rhaenyra is pretty helpless in this position, literally strapped in behind Helaena, so I imagine there had to be a good deal of trust between the half-sisters here. It helps that Helaena is close to Rhaenyra’s daughters in this verse so Rhaenyra knows her better.

Daemon and Rhaenyra’s vocal objections to Aegon’s character really make an impact on Aegon. I was strongly influenced by a Tom Glynn-Carney interview where he described Aegon as “desperate to be loved but destined to be hated.” In this verse, Aegon finds that Jace fills that need to be loved but he isn’t sure he deserves that love, so Daemon and Rhaenyra’s arguments unwittingly strike very close to home. And that’s why he does the something stupid later in the chapter, so he can prove he’s worthy.

I was so excited to make my joke about Lannisters shitting gold that I forgot Lord Beesbury is still master of coin while Tyland is master of ships. So I retconned Beesbury into retirement and promoted Tyland. My bad.

Jace and Rhaenyra have a loud, healthy, mother-daughter argument this chapter, which Daemon conveniently sleeps through. While Jace is at Driftmark, she learns more about Rhaenyra’s youthful misadventures, and Jace still has *feelings* about the Daemyra elopement (which was only 9 months before this chapter), so this leads to Jace feeling some complicated resentment toward her mother. But they work it out.

This is the last chapter where Aegon and Aemond are afraid of Daemon. Starting in Chapter 7, after they come back from the Stepstones, they’re much less intimidated by him. Poor Daemon, he can’t even have the simple pleasure of terrifying his nephews. 😔

Another retcon: Helaena’s prophecy this chapter originally said “Gold and bronze.” I was trying to refer to Sunfyre and Vhagar but the show is too damn dark for me to see what color Vhagar is, so I honestly thought she was some kind of brown/bronze, and the fandom wiki wasn’t super clear either. Then I read a HOTD behind-the-scenes book that describes Vhagar as jade so I went with that. My bad (again).

I just want to say that one of my favorite sentences I have EVER written was in this chapter. “The queen…wore a smile so tight that it could probably garrote a man.” 🖤

Aegon’s spiel about a boy becoming a man when “he has seen his own blood flow and heard his teeth crunch under the blow of an opponent” is based on a quote by a 12th-century chronicler named Roger of Howden.

When Aemond shows up in the garden in the final scene, Viserys honestly forgets his name at first. Dad of the year, y’all 😭
