The Thor of dragons ⚡

For context, this dragon summons lightning in the place of fire, casting a purple hue of static wherever it goes. Fulgur's roar shakes the earth like crashing thunder, and he is the sole reason behind the everlasting storm atop thunderridge (part of my druidwood uni).

Some DnD Shenanigans From Last Week

Same group as the TNT team, but different DM, different characters, different game

Honestly I’m mostly making this post so I can remember this in the future

Little party rundown: we’re all level 20. This is gonna be a 3-5 session game, still technically considered a one-shot since it’s short and we’re not leveling up. I’d refer to it as an adventure but the DM calls it a one-shot so we’ll go with that.

I am playing a storm sorcerer. Her name is Skye Thunderridge (The Feywild’s Fury is her title, earned because she kept the Shadowfell from encroaching on Neverwinter). She’s a half-elf of the Feylost background. She grew up in the Feywild, primarily in the care of Oran the Green Lord (sort of a sub-form of Oberon, apparently, according to the DnD wiki), though his dryads and faun servants did all the heavy lifting of raising her, where she was taught to cultivate her own power. She thinks she’s 21 and has been back on the Material Plane for about a year, but honestly she’s probably closer to 25 and has been back for about 5. She has a Masquerade Tattoo that she uses as a form of self-expression. It’s fun. She’s also a sweet, innocent bean who doesn’t necessarily always understand figures of speech and I adore her.

My husband is playing a tortle barbarian/rogue multiclass (because he likes to break the game and deal boatloads of extra damage) of soldier background who seems like a chill, wise, Master Oogway type character who’s unbothered by anything—right up until he rages. His title is The Shell’s Retribution, earned when he saved a coastal town whose name I can’t remember from a Kraken trying to pull it into the sea. He’s also a sass-master and troublemaker, but you really wouldn’t know that by looking at him. His name is Pipsqueak and he’s seven feet tall and 550lbs of muscle. We call him Pip.

The DM’s wife is playing the first of our two monks. Kaehler (KAY-lure) the Elven Dragon, who was personally trained by Bahamut for the first small portion of his Way of the Ascendent Dragon training. He’s a 30-year-old half-elf pit fighter/celebrity in Waterdeep with salmon pink hair and a massive tattoo of Bahamut covering his entire back—which is pretty sick. I don’t know his background yet but he was pretty much raised in the monasteries he trained in. He can also manifest wings and occasionally use a Dragon’s Breath ability that’s really awesome.

The last member of the party is Car’Carn (nicknamed Popcorn immediately by Pipsqueak) who is apparently based on a Wheel of Time character? He’s a monk/ranger multiclass, and the only full-elf in the party. He likes to refer to everyone by their full name and title. He wears, like, an Arabian cap-and-veil type headgear and when the veil is on he’s in attack mode, but when it’s off he’s not.

So, onto the shenanigans:

Skye, my storm sorcerer, is totally crushing on Kaehler—because she thinks he’s cute and he’s the first fellow half-elf she’s ever adventured with for longer than a couple hours. Also he protected her from wyverns as best he could

She occasionally doesn’t understand figures of speech and takes things a bit too literally she’s above-average when it comes to her Intelligence stat but it’s a culture clash but she’s an adorable bean who could melt your face off with a lightning bolt and I love her

At one point Kaehler said he “talks better with [his] fists” and she gave him this confused look and asked if his hands had mouths on them

Later, the captain of the airship we’ve been passengers on referred to the ship as a “he” (because said ship is sentient—we as the players know that but we as characters have no clue) and Kaehler asked the captain why he’d referred to the ship as a “he” because “aren’t all ships a ‘she’?” And Skye (who, again, grew up in the Feywild where fey don’t necessarily have to prescribe to the material plane culture’s gender norms) looked at him and said, “the ship can be a ‘he’ if he wants to be. He can identify however he wants.” And, out of character, Kaehler’s player starts laughing and gives me this high five while our other players quietly chuckled and the DM (both above-game and as the captain of the ship) says to Kaehler, “Yeah! Don’t be judgy!”

The fun thing about being a sorcerer at level 20 is my cantrips can do some hefty damage. Car’Carn, at one point, stealthed away from us to go search for tracks, and when he came back his Stealth roll was higher than Skye’s passive perception, so when he appeared in front of where she and Kaehlor were standing and talking, he scared her. She yelped and grabbed him, casting Shocking Grasp (4d8). I dealt 18 points of lightning damage to him, and could have made it 28 if I’d used my Heart of the Storm feature. The second his player said he was stealthing back to us, I figured he’d probably scare Skye. Then he rolled higher than her passive perception and I was like, “Oh. He’s really gonna freak her out. She’s gonna shock him.” And she did. It was great.

So, the wyvern story I mentioned in the beginning of the shenanigans: we were traveling north on a flying galleon (essentially a Pirates of the Caribbean-size from the big ships like The Black Pearl, Endeavor and Dauntless) and as we were getting closer, we were attacked by a group of 4 wyverns—scouts for the cult we’re tracking down. Skye got hit in the surprise round (the only one because her passive perception is a 17 and she’s the lowest) for 27 points of damage—like 13 piercing and 14 poison. After that, Kaehler put her behind him and used the platinum dragon wings he can just manifest from his back to up her AC from 18 to like 24 by shielding her with them. I was gonna use Shield on myself, or just take the next hit so I could do 20 points of lightning damage (because Storm’s Fury feature!—I frickin’ love storm sorcerers, y’all), but Kaehler’s dex is higher than mine and he reacted to protect Skye before Skye could protect herself. Which, she’s not particularly used to other people taking care of her in a fight, so she was surprised and flattered at the same time. She thought he was cute from the first moment she saw him, but now she’s definitely crushing on him.

Kaehler also thinks Skye is cute. And innocent and sweet. According to his player he’s not usually into girls (probably because he’s got fangirls swarming him all the time), but he decided that she needed to be protected and has been trying to flirt with her just a little bit. (Not that I think her wisdom is high enough for her passive insight to pick up on that but it’s fun anyway. We’re two straight, married women playing two idiots who don’t really know how to flirt. Skye definitely has no clue.)

At the very beginning of the campaign, when we were waiting in the tavern in Waterdeep for our patron to summon us, before we knew who each other was, Skye kept peeking at Kaehler out of the corner of her eye because he was drinking this five-layered drink out of a bowl and each layer was a different color (meanwhile, Skye has never had alcohol in her life). And I made the joke it was because she’d never seen anything like it, but the DM corrected me saying it was probably mellow compared to things she’d seen in the Feywild, so the joke became Skye was confused that the drink only had five layers instead of six, like the ones at satyr parties.

You have to have sm patience to work in retail yeah 😭 the other day this lady came in looking for a jacket she saw at a store down the street. She took a picture of the jacket, walked passed the store doors, went straight to our store and was upset we didn’t have it… like ma’am! We don’t carry that jacket! It’s at the store you passed! Oh for real. I try so hard to be nice to people working retail because of stories like that. OMG. Like, I hated going up to the lady at the craft store to ask where they kept their paint XD

Well... alright. I didn't think anyone would ever really care about seeing stuff I drew or painted. Let me get some of my art. I can't draw faces so most of the time I draw characters from behind. I'm a traditional artist, pencil and paper because that's all I was taught, so these are just pictures I took of my book. And all I paint these days are our DnD minis. But I just finished one!

This is Rose! She’s my Tempest Domain Cleric in our long running DnD campaign. Her mini is in-progress, but her statue is done! Husband and I have a 3D printer so we made them ourselves

There’s Rose again, on the left. In progress. Her spiritual weapon, a trident, is next to her. Technically completed. In the middle is Skye Thunderridge, my sorcerer from our short level 20 adventure who is in all the drawings below. To the right of her is Pipsqueak, the 7-foot-tall 550-pound tortle barbarian my husband played. Bent over he’s shorter than Skye but he is frickin’ massive. On the far right is Ren, my cleric Rose’s twin brother, who is a ranger/rogue multiclass. I just finished painting him.

Same moment, two angles. This was Kaehler, the DM’s wife’s character who is crushing on Skye, protecting her from a wyvern’s stinger and taking the bite of the wyvern himself in order to keep her safe. Except I forgot about his faux-hawk in this one -_-

This one is Skye dispelling the arcane shield around the Orb of Dragon Kind with her 9th level spell slot. We’d been fighting a Black Great Wyrm (one step more powerful than an Ancient Black Dragon, new to Fizban’s, I believe), who had protected the Orb with it. Kaehler is helping keep her upright since Skye is newly back from the dead Thanks Bahamut. You can also see Pipsqueak, and Car’Carn, who was still asleep after all three of us were dragged back from the dead. Kaehler was the only one who survived the fight.

So, the blowback of grabbing and dispelling the Orb’s shield—which was primarily necrotic magic—blackened Skye’s hands since she took it in to dispel it. And I really wanted to draw the blackened hands. I used a paper towel to blend the darkness because I did actually pay attention to my professional artist dad’s art lessons when I was younger, even though he probably thought I didn’t.

So... when we finally beat the Great Wyrm, the DM said, “Festivities were had.” But what I heard was, “Excuse to draw Skye in her formal wear, blackened hands on full display because 1) she hates gloves and 2) they’re a battle scar that showed she helped save the world.” She’s probably not even wearing shoes under her gown. She was raised in the Feywild, give her a break. Also I can’t draw faces (especially as small as this picture actually is) so, yeah. Blank face.

I also really want to draw the moment she died—her body broken on the ground while Kaehler and Pipsqueak watch on, helpless, Car’Carn already dead, as the Wyrm hits her with two high-level Magic Missile lances (not just darts)—but I don’t know if I have the skill to do it XD Doesn’t mean I’m not gonna try later, but for now I gotta finish painting Rose’s mini for our DnD session tomorrow XD
