Animated 2: Return to Neverland v The Pirate Fairy v Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Return to Never Land {originial-Peter Pan (1953)} *spoilers?*
It follows Wendy's canonical daughter Jane, in every version of the story where Peter returns to the Darling's window, he meets Jane, and this story gives her her own adventure. with Wendy as a turn of the century child, it isn't too much of a stretch to assume Jane would be growing up in the middle of a deeply contentious time in British History, that being the London bombings of World War 2, and Unlike Wendy, whom needed to understand that she didn't WANT to never grow up and embrace her coming maturity as it arrives, Jane had been thrown into a position in her family where she had needed to grow up too fast, and in her trip to Neverland understand the importance of that child-like wonder she had nearly lost. As such, she starts out deeply skeptical and frustrated by the nonsensical nature of Neverland, and being more trusting of adults than of children whose attempts of 'playing with her' were little more than bullying with the thin veneer of 'just a game', which ultimately allows her to be manipulated by Hook. But even then manages to grow attached to the lost boys and connect with Peter and due to her inability to fly for most of the movie had almost fully integrated into the world of Neverland and became the first Lost Girl by the time of the third act. While it's held back by the painfully early 00's music it's ultimately a very compelling story about a child in a deeply traumatizing situation finding temporary haven in a place untouched by the war that had so deeply distorted her worldview and ultimately reclaiming her right to have a childhood after constant danger of death and destruction had nearly wrenched it from her entirely. (also there's no racist Native American stereotypes that exist just for the sake of themselves and could have easily been some sort of fantasy species but nahhh it was the 50s so native americans were SUPER okay to be racist about/s)
The Pirate Fairy {original-Tinker Bell (2008)}
>none submitted<
Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast {original Tinker Bell (2008)}
It centres around Fawn aka the best Disney Fairy, KT Tunstell did the soundtrack which absolutely slaps and is unironically on my main playlist to this day. It made me cry when i watched it for the first and subsequent times. Its just so sweet and wholesome. Also apparently spice girl Mel B voiced a minor character in the UK release??? The voice casting alone makes this one of the franchises and films of all time.

so, in tinker bell and the legend of the neverbeast it's established that fairies aren't immortal (even though in my mind, they absolutely are).
because fairies are born, that also must mean fairies must die.
do i want to think about fairy funerals and their unique rituals per talent? no.
do i want to think about how fairies die, if they go back to the dandelion seeds/whisps or if they leave a permanent mark in their own way on pixie hollow? nO–

welcome to the band trip bus where me and my seatmate are discussing the sexualities of the Disney Fairies after rewatching Legend of the Neverbeast and realizing Fawn and Nyx would be such a cute ship

The ending to Legend of The Neverbeast makes me so sad because it was literally hurt/no comfort, the dude closed his eyes and the credits rolled. It ended on a sad note and it ended up being the last Tinker Bell movie ever

I've realized the one thing that will get me to cry in a movie or show without fail (if not done poorly): Animal loss.
Animal death is the most common, but even just having to say goodbye to an animal companion will get me going. Examples: Old Yeller, Tinker Bell: Legend of the Neverbeast, Pete's Dragon (haven't seen that one in a while), and The Owl House (Palisman count).
Human(oid) loss can also do this, but the writers need to work harder to get me to cry than they would with an animal. Examples: How to Train Your Dragon 2, Avengers: Endgame, Nimona, and The Owl House... again.
Sometimes they overlap, like GotG Vol. 3.

DARN IT SPOTIFY! Thanks for making me want to revisit the Tinker Bell films by playing 1000 Years from the last movie that was never meant to be the last film in the franchise!!!
Disneytoon Studios, oh sweet sorrow and many thanks for your presence, you gave us great films, others not so great but they all had heart and passion in those great films!

DTVA/DTS TAGTEAM TWEET-ATHON MOVIE #82: TINKER BELL AND THE LEGEND OF THE NEVERBEAST (2015)
Man, DisneyToon really deserved a better movie to end on...
DisneyToon actually did have a lot of potential behind them, they were just stuck with terrible projects to work with. And the Tinker Bell and Planes franchises are perhaps the worst projects they were stuck with.
This movie and the first are probably the most mediocre in the franchise, and it’s almost funny that they are the ones that I reviewed.
I found myself not even processing what was happening in the movie as it was going on, that’s how boring this one was.
I think the closest thing I can compare this movie to is Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, in that it has a creature who the majority of the world reviles based on appearance, except for one pure hearted person who bonds with said creature.
The problem is, the movie is so formulaic, that I was able to see exactly where the plot was going the whole time. Also, I don’t care about any of these characters at all, despite the fact that they had five movies beforehand to make me care, and I’d say that’s pretty bad.
At least the animation is good? DT finally managed to get CGI to look really good, almost up to the level of Pixar and WDAS at that time. And the voice acting is pretty good as well.
The character designs have also gotten a lot better with each movie, and even though they were made to sell dolls, they still at least seem like creative designs.
The Tinker Bell series could’ve been great, but it squandered each opportunity it had to rise above mere mediocrity. I feel if there were less cooks in the kitchen at DT at the time, this series actually could’ve had a more long lasting appeal.
4.5/10: It’s weird how Peter Pan never showed up once in this series, right? I feel like that would’ve been a no-brainer by movie 6.
