obito is an evil jester god who lies and deceits and shapeshifts and has no tangible sense of identity (doesnt want one) and u cant even get a hold of him physically either, he will just slip away thru ur hands, whereas madara's thing is all abt his own self and his ego and what he wants and desires lol and he puts that over everyone/-thing else despite his messiah aspirations ... and pain. well, he's a vengeful god. he's all abt vengeance and paternalistic punishment. what they share is their goal of peace and their god complex and overblown egos but the ways that their self-images function is quite different and distinct from each other. and it says smth abt who they are ... what they want .. bc madara, all he wants is control, pain, what he wants is vengeance & justice and obito ... he wants to dissociate from his own self. he wants some type of way to not have to be himself. he says that humanity "doesnt need heroes" and that the key to a happy existence lies in erasing one's need for an identity ... he says smth abt how he wants to unify all humans into one singular consciousness. that he's "no one" and completing his plan will be enough. he says that he doesnt want to be anyone and thats how he aims to get rid of his own pain and he wants that for the entire rest of the world too. madara. he wants to reverse history. and HE, MADARA, wants to be at the center of it. he doesnt want to deny or erase anything abt his own self or his memories, he is reasonably fine w those memories. he is familiar and very in tune w himself and his desires .. thats why controlling the ten tails chakra comes easy to him (he is destined for it and thats why he wants it and he wants it bc he is destined for it .. etc. character is synonymous with ur fate) and all he wants is to be the one who commands the illusion. his obsession w power and ego is the core of his self-image. its what he understands his role to be in the world, in shinobi history ... it is all abt him. thats why he, out of the three, has the biggest Main character syndrom i'd say adsfdgdgs bc he's the most ego-motivated. obito wants to be anyone BUT himself even in godhood. pain ... idk. he's more goal-oriented i think, its not that much abt his own self, it is also abt realizing what yahiko dreamt of back then. he hides his true self all the time and his main persona to use is yahiko (the use of the bijuus also seems a bit seperated from his own self. the way he talks abt how he is going to use them, as a "weapon" .. makes it seem as if maybe he doesnt plan on becoming their jinchuuriki at all. and moreso plans using them as an instrument and the instrument's impact will be the thing thats important. not so much what he'll get out of it personally i think). obito, madara ... they finally also share their messiah complex. whereas pain i think as ive said before .. he's less of a savior and more of a punisher
