Who Said You Can’t Like Villains?
I didn’t want to make this post but it’s gotten to the point where the Fandom Drama (or Wank, as we should call it) has been pushed to point of harassment so it’s time to talk about this.
Backstory: There’s currently ongoing drama between The Owl House fans and Belos stans. On one side, there’s the Owl House fans who are upset about the behavior of a sect of fanatics who are making Eda, Luz, Caleb, Camila, Darius, and other characters out to be the bad guys while Belos is being apologized and for lack of a better word, woobified. On the other side there’s the Belos stans who believe they are the victims of Dana Terrace secretly hating Belos and the onslaught of people who say “You can’t like villains”, and are claiming that they are on the receiving end of harassment. Both sides of the argument are receiving harassment, and I will not doubt be getting harassment due to talking about this. There are claims of death threats, and if those are true please REPORT them.  Real humans are being brought into this: One of the talking points from the Belos stans is that Dana and her crew secretly hates Belos and there’s some kind of conspiracy that she changed the show just to spite them/because she’s a Belos hater. This isn’t true. She WROTE the character, has made fanart of him, and he was never meant to be a tragic hero. She wrote him to be a bad person. He tries to murder Luz, Eda, King, and Lilith in his second episode. And that’s okay! There’s nothing wrong with writing a villain who is bad! Who Said You Can’t Like Villains? Nobody. Well, somebody did but that’s not what most of TOH Fans are mad about. The reason the Belos stans are getting criticism is not because Belos is a villain but rather because people feel that he’s being justified and that these people are putting other characters down, as well as feeling harassed when they speak their opinions. A lot of the anger from TOH fans has been due to justification that makes Luz, Caleb, etc out to be terrible people who hurt Belos, and that Belos is an innocent character who was justified. There have been people on twitter on the side of the Belos stans using eugenics speak and “he didn’t know better” or “Belos was justified because Caleb left him” as arguments which is why people are mad. Ultimately, if you enjoy Belos as a villain, that’s okay and cool. I personally am a Belos fan and have been for a while. Villains are cool. But that’s not why people are upset right now. Stop making Luz/Caleb/Camila out to be the bad guy and stop making excuses for Belos. Enjoy him as who he is, a flawed human who made a bunch of bad choices of HIS OWN FREE WILL, rather than a sad baby who needs to be rescued from the evil showrunner.

Every time I see someone in the Owl House fandom say that trans Hunter headcanons don't make sense because Belos would certainly be transphobic, it just makes me also headcanon Belos as trans out of spite.
If you don't "get" trans Hunter headcanons, that's fine, they're headcanons and you can have your own. But before you talk about how they "don't make sense," think about why so many young trans kids are identifying so hardcore with an abused child desperately trying to claim his own identity. For all the trans boy Hunter headcanons I've seen, I've seen plenty of trans girl and nonbinary Hunter, too, and that means trans kids of all kinds are imprinting on this character.
It doesn't have to make sense to you, but it's bringing a lot of trans kids (hell, and adults!) a lot of comfort to see Hunter's story play out. Don't be a jerk to people making trans headcanons. Half the fun of fandom is supposed to be figuring out your own interpretations and headcanons, and nobody likes the people who go out of their way to be jerks to others.

The moment someone calls a ship the perfect couple, it is all over.
Even if the couple does canonically have flaws, the moment the fandom decides they are above criticism, all of the fun gets sucked out of the fandom.

ok its been literally 15 minutes since the finale ended and im getting off the TOH tag.
I am SO DISAPPOINTED in a certain side of this fandom.
it took less than FIFTEEN MINUTES to see enough "lollllll lumity went canon and huntlow didn't, get WRECKED YOU STINKY STRAIGHTS LOL BURY UR GAYS UNO REVERSE LMAOOOOO HOW DOES IT FEEL NASTY ICKY BAD STRAIGHT SHIPPERS" posts to make me actually consider whether I'd rather the show have had a sad ending.
not bc of huntlow, i ship it but never put any hope or weight on it going canon. I'm not "anti-lumity" or whateverthefuck, I don't really think about ships that much in 99.9% of fandoms.
...yall are just extremely fucking
IMMATURE.
I'm queer. I understand how much pain we've dealt with even SOLELY in terms of media rep. I even understand the glee at the concept of "straightbaiting" actually being a thing that happened here.
I also understand the EXTREMELY JUSTIFIED concern and anger around some parts of the fandom seeming to abandon the BIPOC WLW main character/main ship in favor of the Sad Greasy White Boy Of The Week And His White Straight Girlfriend.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why so many "fans" are taking this EXTREMELY POSITIVE, LITERALLY GROUNDBREAKING and immediately turning it against their fellow fans. All this amazing rep, characterization, EVERYTHING and you still find a way to be cruel to your fellow fans.
this isn't a contest.
Lumity is canon.
Huntlow is not.
Huntlow was not a focus of the finale.
I can guarantee you that after that finale, NOBODY was thinking about Huntlow until yall started being fucking mean about it.
YOU brought up the thing you claimed to want the fandom to stop focusing on, for the SINGULAR PURPOSE of enacting some sort of "revenge" on shippers that you projected a whoooole lot of Racism, Homophobia, and Evil onto, despite:
Bi Hunter, Transmasc Hunter, Transfemme Willow, and T4T Huntlow all being EXTREMELY popular hcs/themes in and out of shipping context
A fair chunk of the fandom seeing Willow as BIPOC/East Asian -coded
ALL of the masc presenting queers w parental and/or religious trauma who have spoken out about how seen they feel bc of Hunter
I'm not saying Hunter was a perfect character. He definitely wasn't the main character, or even close.
I'm saying that yall have demonized this part of the fandom SO MUCH that after THAT FINALE.
*THAT. FINALE.*
your FIRST INSTINCT was to ATTACK THEM
over the SHIP (I REPEAT MYSELF) THAT YOU SAID YOU WANTED PPL TO STOP TALKING ABOUT.
I was having a really fun, good, genuine amazing time freaking my shit over Titan!Luz, and Lumity, and Raeda, and King and The Collector and TITAN LUZ!!!!!
yknow. all the stuff the finale was actually about.
and now I'm thinking mainly of huntlow (or at least the discourse around it), angry, and extremely sad that my experience of this finale has been ruined
and that this fandom is the latest to fall into the trap of "blame other fans for actual systemic oppression, regardless of whether or not they are actually upholding it."
I don't know how to get it through your heads that a heavily T4T-headcanoned, likely biracial-coded ship that is CANONICALLY a healing narrative for trauma survivors
is not fucking reylo.
this Evil In Fandom you're angry at 1000% exists but it sure as fuck isn't here.
unless there's a Secret Second Huntlow Fandom That Is Evil And Racist And Hates Lumity that idk abt, this is just a group of sad queer kids sitting next to your own group of sad queer kids
and despite me seeing ZERO ACTUAL HUNTLOW COMMENTS ABOUT THE FINALE * AT ALL *
you, whatever side of the fandom is doing this (I honestly don't know who is making these posts) aren't proving, winning, fixing or righting anything
you're going over to another side of the fandom whose ship didnt go canon
and with ZERO PROVOKATION
you're making them feel like shit for it.
why???
WHY??????
yall "won". you won as much as you can possibly win here. everybody loves the finale. nobody is giving anything but overwhelming love, happy tears, joy and awe to "your" win.
but you still felt the need to make sure someone, somewhere, knew that they "lost".
sry im just so angry at this rn. i was having so much fun. what the fuck is this kind of behavior supposed to prove?
also btw to be clear this is NOT DIRECTED AT ALL OR MOST LUMITY SHIPPERS, LUZ STANS, ETC. ITS NOT EVEN DIRECTED AT "HUNTLOW-ANTIS" EXCEPT THE *SPECIFIC PEOPLE* WHO CHOSE TO USE THE FINALE TO BASH ON OTHERS.
AS FOR THOSE SPECIFIC PEOPLE:
YOU SUCK!!!!!! Thanks for ruining this fantastic experience for me by being a piece of shit on main over some "shipper" crap im not even in.

On one hand I truly do enjoy lunter but on the other hand their fans are such insufferably annoying little haters I've blocked like 60% of the ship's fan base

Why is everyone getting on Huntlow’s ass about the “age gap”.
Y’all. Even if Willow hadn’t turned 15 since she was first introduced (and she did), they would only be two years apart. Literally what is the issue here? So, Hunter is 16. He sees another teenager who’s a goddamn force of nature and gets blushy about it. Shit happens.
2 years apart is literally not a problem. Let people have fun.

Lmao if you dont want to answer the anon you can just ignore the post. No need to bitch about things you arent required to do. Bitch about things like reading and walking which are too complex for you
Guys, I think they finally found me.
Luckily for you, anon, I don't. Please don't give yourself that much credit that you think you can make me do anything. Who do you think you are? Capitalism? My mother? Don't go and flatter yourself when you don't have the guts to show yourself.
And here's the well known ✨projection✨ that you folks are famous for. Just because reading and walking are complex for you, doesn't mean they're for me. How very presumptuous and on brand for you.
Poor little anon, man. Sorry your struggles aren't universal, what a pity.
I am writer, anon. How do you think people become writers? Say hello to my English major too. Still wanna argue about who actually read the books? Go stalk my blog, I actually have quoted them somewhere, about your precious fav too.
Konse angle se mein Ambani ki beti lagti jo tujhe lagta not walking is a fucking option for me. Mere maa baap pagal dikh rhe hain kya jo school and university ki fees aise hi de di for me to not even learn how to read like you, anon?
Tumblr media
'Ignore the post' like you people ignore the canon? Sorry, I don't have that special talent.
No one asked for your unsolicited advice, anon.
I will fucking bitch about the sun rising if I want, on my fucking blog. If you have such a big problem, get the fuck off of it. In case you didn't got the memo, I don't cater it to you. Don't come into my house and then tell me what to do.
Go on, block me, send me some more anons and anon hate. Come at me, Idc.

Weekends are for watching truly trashy TV...
... (as opposed to irony-watching semi-trash) so this week I decided to forego my newest addiction Divya Drishti to binge the new AltBalaji show BOSS: Baap of Special Services.
Tumblr media
[crowd yelling: “... But TT you’re always going on about not caring for KSG! You’re adamant about it and battle anon wank on the topic! How could you possibly......?????”]
Well kids, all I can say is don’t try to put me in a box. For all my highfalutin media snobbery, there’s also that side of me which has watched KRK’s Deshdrohi multiple times. (Only to discover that one of my college-mates was an extra in the songs. True story, mummy kasam.) I honest-to-god have a favt. movie featuring Sonu Nigam as an "actor". No, not the cult classic Jaani Dushman, but the equally noteworthy Love In Nepal. Which I have also seen multiple times, because the amount of cheap kicks I get from Sonu's ridiculous hamming is indescribable. Anyway, I’m trash for the professional-couple-with-opposing-personalities trope (especially in the field of law enforcement), and was majorly missing B99 (HOW LONG TILL THE NEXT SEASON GODDAMNIT?????)/Krishna Arjun (WHY WON’T YOU JUST PUT IT UP ALREADY, HOTSTAR?????????) so I decided to scratch the itch with this. (Also this blasted weather has brought an influx of mutant mosquitoes into my house, so watching this was also an attempt to keep my mind off those literal itches. I'm not an NRI anymore, but my body hasn't gotten the memo yet and continues to overreact to every bug bite.)
Plot:
It was pretty much what I expected from the trailer; a middling crime/mystery series with occasional moments of the mildest intrigue. It has a ‘case of the episode’ format, with each resolution sorta feeding into the larger mystery driving the plot. The smaller cases are completely unremarkable; always a murder (I used to think Shimla was a chill place with relatively low crime rates? Apparently not; in this show's universe the murdering is so bad, a whole special task force has to be formed - with like, national-level shooting champions and imported super-cops from other states.) The bigger mystery is the only compelling part of the show, keeping me invested to watch till the end. I wouldn't say it had a completely satisfying wrap-up (a too-tidily ghusaaya hua culprit and motive in the end; not to mention loose ends that just went nowhere. For eg. they introduce - never show - a character that the lead has been obsessing about for months now and goes to great lengths to track down, only to be casually told that he died a few months ago. And like...... nothing. We just move on, zero frustration.) but at least it brought like 2.67% complexity to the main lead beyond “Satyromanic Sherlock”.
A more appropriate name for the show would have been BOSH: Baap of Sexual Harassment, coz KSG's character spends most of his screentime leering at the nearest adult woman and propositioning her with the most unimaginatively sexist innuendo. Said woman (other than our stern female lead, of course) is so bowled over that she’s immediately willing to get it on with him on closest stable surface that can support the weight of 2 people. Each episode has on an average of 2-3 utterly tacky and tasteless sex scenes which I promptly forwarded the fuck through. Everyone knows I'm a tharki of the first order, so you can guess just how distasteful they were to get ME to do that. (Does KSG have some kinda clause in his non primetime-TV contracts that he must be given scenes to paw at a woman in the most unattractive manner?) The reaction to all this nonsense is always smirky admiration from the other men, and disgust from female lead. Except for when he puts the moves on her in later eps; then she reacts with coy exasperation. I cannot (yet somehow also can - because we truly do live in the darkest timeline) believe something like this got made and released in the #MeToo era? Forget #MeToo, the leads more than once wake up with the people in bed next to them murdered, and it has like zero legal repercussions beyond a withering glare, so THAT's the kinda universe we're operating in.
Cast:
KSG‘s made 'charming haraami with/without heart of gold’ his go-to role over the years now, so this is right in his wheelhouse. I've seen him give a waaaay more compelling performance in QH so eh... Can't say I was too impressed with him here. This was just Law Enforcement Armaan. An errant man-child doing whatever the fuck he wants and getting by in life thanks to conventional attractiveness. His facial hair situation is also very distracting; the continuity lapses rivaling Iqra Aziz's hair in SC2.
I haven't watched Sagarika Ghatge in anything other than Chak De, so I'm genuinely wondering: is she capable of anything other than ‘sullen girl who's constantly making an annoyed/perplexed face’? Her face occasionally relaxes into a wry smirk, but other than that, she could be Captain Holt's Desi Spirit Daughter. I couldn't quite tell if it's the stereotypical role of ‘female cop who has to be a strict stickler to be taken seriously in a male-dominated profession’, or if she just doesn't have the range. Maybe it's both? It’s probably both.
Gaurav Gera shows up as a sidekick to KSG - some kinda "hacker" who regularly comes to school the police's cyber-crime head - because she's a woman, how could she possibly be the authority on tech stuff? Anything that keeps him from making more of those dumb "shopkeeper" vids is a good thing in my book, I guess. Sagarika's character has two sidekicks - who contribute nothing to the investigation part, they just serve as muscle who chase the fleeing suspects and haul them into the police van. Ayaz Khan toh I suspect just took the role to get to hang out with best bro KSG in Shimla for a few days, coz his character is an undistinctive personality-less blob. The sidekick cop who's not Ayaz (aforementioned shooting champion) looked super familiar; it took me like 3 episodes to realize it's the dude who plays Komolika's deranged brother in KZK these days. The insta clips of him constantly attacking one Sharma sister or another is where I knew him from. He plays his character with some bright-eyed earnestness and is mostly tolerable, if completely forgettable.
Minor bright spot(s): Mishal Raheja as a grey character! Now there's the charming haraami I'd want to watch a whole show about! Also Daljiet Kaur in a tiny but important role; kind of a chilling AU version of Anjali from IPK, if she didn't have Arnav in her life to balance out her constantly-teteering-on-the-brink waala mental instability.
Overall Impression:
Lol, I can't recommend it or anything, but if you miss watching the OG 1990s/2000s-era episodes of CID, but with a 400% more cringeyass sexual situations straight out of soft porn, I guess you can go for it? Pretty sure it's no more a waste of time than the newest Bhai movie that's released on Prime.

You just know a Belos Redemption fic is going to suck if one of the first things the writer does is restore Belos’ human appearance, when season 3 made it clear this is a permanent thing that he can only temporarily cover with a facade. You mean to tell me multiple protagonists have to live with the scars and disabilities that Belos’ system (and even Belos himself) inflicted upon them, but their fave whose transformation was 100% his own fault gets to go scot-free? Plus it just proves to me how much white favoritism contributes to Belos’ woobification, because stans who redeem Belos must include him becoming a white dude again.
Yeah. I tend to avoid that content but I used to be a big fan of the character and it's been really hard to find content for him that's like silly (not trying to find ways to do legwork for him/excuses) and isn't romanticizing/ being weird about him. I especially dislike how a lot of people making Belos content have this theory about Dana and how she's out to get them/ hates Belos when he's literally her OC and she does care about the character. I'm really not vibing with takes that he deserved a softer ending especially because of what he did and unfortunately those takes have been super prevalent so. No Belos for me right now. Sorry you've been seeing that stuff, I think part of it is the fact that human faces are easier to relate to for most humans but also yeah. I think the white favoritism for him is strong and you're right to call out how it plays into that.
Sorry it took me so long to answer this, this is a really good ask and thanks for sending it in, I've been really exhausted and I didn't have time to formulate an answer.

Women’s day is right around the corner. I’ve been wondering what I want to talk about? Breasts? Sexuality? Education? Periods? Individuality? Freedom? Unequal wages? I don’t know? Sometimes there is just so much going on that your mind cannot pin point one thing. I remember a couple of days ago, I got some really dumb comments. One of them said “ab toh boobs bade karwa lene chahiye”, & the other one was along the lines of “I agree with what you’re saying but it’s sad that you have to show your boobs & be naked to say this, just to get the attention of boys & lure them”.. & I thought to myself, some people are just such a waste of time, aren’t they? How absurd is it that while I’m wearing a low neck line, showing my cleavage, “they” are the one feeling aroused & it’s my fault? I’m doing this to “attract” them? But when boys put up shirtless selfies, its definitely not to arouse women (its again your fault, if you are), it’s to show their ripped abs & their shoulders. They’re showing their masculinity & their hard work in the gym. I on the other hand, am just asking to get raped by showcasing the breasts that fed all these masculine men, who are now turned on by it & hence want to A. Censor them, B. Sexualize them.. & yet, I’m the crazy one here? Yes, it must be my fault. What a bunch of lunatic we are. Convincing women to get their breasts and ass enlargements in order to look good, then covering them up, safely kept aside for the bedroom, exclusively for the man to see. I guess the only purpose of my breasts, my butt, my shoulder, my back, my thighs, my legs, my neck - is for a man to explore and enjoy. Technically according to a huge population in this world, the body of a female only exists for a mans needs. I wasn’t actually going to talk about anything this women’s day.. but then Sonam Kapoor got trolled for wearing something bold, & Emma Watson got shit for being topless, & 10 other things happened. So I thought, fuck this.. lets write. And as I’m brainstorming, why not put up a photo with cleavage just to offend & piss off the bunch of idiots that clearly need to be pissed off. Though they’ll still wank off. -Saloni Chopra . . This woman. Saloni Chopra. She is such an inspiration. I love the way she writes and the cause she writes for.

The same people who are saying that people are telling them they “can’t like villains” are the same people watering down and trying to justify a villain who really doesn’t need that and can just be a bad person.
You can just enjoy Belos as a bad person. It’s really not that deep. Just stop making everyone else the villains and trying to make it out like Belos is some secret tragic hero because it’s really annoying and unhelpful. If you like villains, ENJOY HIM AS A VILLAIN and don’t tell people that they’re in the wrong for liking him as a villain.

Spoilers/ Fandom Drama
I dislike that people are saying now that Belos isn’t complex. He had his reasons but I think it was always clear that he thought he was the hero. He really did, he genuinely believed it. There was a time and place for the discussion of whether or not he should die or if they should try to help him... a long time ago. His complexity is kind of irrelevant when he’s hurt so many people. He was a person. He had a family who he loved. He lost that due to his own actions. When they said it was his delusion to be a hero, they were right. He sunk into it to cope with the fact that he did awful, heinous shit that he couldn’t rationalize. I don’t think he was capable of self reflecting by the time we met him, and if he did snap of his delusion I think he would entirely collapse in on himself from the weight of what he’s done. That delusion gave him a reason to keep fighting, to justify the trauma he went through and the trauma he put himself through. I don’t think him being bad in the end, and dying, doesn’t mean that he wasn’t capable of love ever or that he didn’t genuinely believe in what he was doing. He had every damn chance to turn around before it was too late and he still made every choice to get here. He wrote his own ending.
