Jesus Christ doesn't give a shit about witchcraft. He never said jack shit about it. Just like he never said jack shit about homosexuality. You really think a literal god would care about mortals' pastimes and love lives? Fuck outta here.

i’ve read so much tradcath bullshit the last two years. i can confidently say tradcath men fit into one of two categories:
“protestant-raised and converted to catholicism because of his crippling porn addiction and racist tendencies. reposts crusader and conquistador memes. is hated in his local parish.” tradcath
“catholic-raised band kid who ate his lunches with the religion teacher. smells like mildew. cut off all his friends that came out as gay after high school. now larps as an aquinian scholar and cries after jerking off.” tradcath

News from the french education minister making me want to smash my head against a wall. The veil is already banned, they now want to ban long dresses with long sleeves (but probably only if you look brown) for teen girls or if you're wearing djellaba as a teen boy.
A) I didn't expose my upper arms - mostly using layers like shirt over a tank - until about 17 due to heavy red stretch mark scarring to the under biceps and wore nothing but jeans or very long tight skirts because of same to the back of my knees. Sis did the same but with nicer flowy skirts and those sleeve tops you put under a lil toppy. I spent 14-16 in baggy clothes to hide my shape and minimize discomfort. I would have loved access to abaya.
I knew several girls (religious and not) who covered in what could be considered religious garb (the modesty cardigan is a catholic/baptist classic) from the temperature issues from eating disorders, dressed baggy from not wanting their curves seen, didn't leave skin exposed to to rashes scars acne and other.
If they can continue but tan to black girls (and yes, a % of them are using religious garb for practical reasons including safety from harassment in and out of school), if your skintone defines who can't, it's clearly not about religion is it?
B) In our new climate crisis summers, robes that protect from sun but keep you cool make total sense, especially for dudes
C D E and F) We finally did it, we're really doing this, we're policing hem lines, too long hem lines, in the name of protecting girls from themselves and from contaminating the white girls. We have not enough teachers, pandemic trauma, we're capitulating to the tradcaths about gender theory but we're going to tell the teen girls that they need to show more skin to be proper french citizens?
Don't accept any of the bullshit narratives and explanations you might hear about secularism and empowerment and equality of the sexes: this is the center right throwing racism bones to the facists. It's a signal that they're fully in bed with the far right because they didn't like that we revolted so hard against our democracy being completely overruled by the divine rights of the rich and powerful this year. It was one fashy thing when they decided to use police and anti terrorist laws against simple protesters and anyone in an ecology group, it was protecting capital but this is just virtue signalling that muslim life will be made harder (and probably jewish life too let's be real).

Are Rhaenicent fans really... special ?
https://www.tumblr.com/prideprejudce/735548166402883584/alicent-being-portrayed-as-the-pure-mother-who?source=share
Like, their whole obsession with religious iconography makes me uncomfortable.
@darklinaforever
Just aesthetically, I actually like Alicent's poster more. Symbolically? I prefer Rhaenyra's. To me, Rhaenyra shows she's determined to get back some dignity & Alicent is, as OP says, "trapped", and lost. The posters have a tinge of reversal of roles. Except I don't think being "trapped" is a good thing in most context at all! Certainly not this one.
Alicent's S2 funeral(?) headpiece is reminiscent of/taking inspiration of the halo of saints, Christ, the Virgin Mary/Mother in Heaven in medieval Catholic & Christian Orthodox iconography. And the Faith of the Seven is Catholic-inspired/coded. Down to the separation and divisions of "God", each being aspects rather than fully fledged gods in their own right. She is a devout follower, plus she is always trying to broadcast her rank as Queen Consort (supreme woman), who both in ASoIaF and real w/life was constantly compared to Mary, Mother of "God". Ii is very in line with her character both in the show & the book, so I have no problem with anyone pointing out or liking it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, this?
alicent being portrayed as the “pure mother” who is pious and devout (stifled by her own prison of faith) and rhaenyra as the “fallen angel” expelled from her own kingdom (for her sins of being a woman and bearing bastard children) who is now looking for revenge and fighting over the rule of heaven
is just more sexist bullshit. They could have just stopped at Rhaenyra being some sort of "fallen angel" trying to get back the power that's been taken from her. We have a whole fandom that worships the boots of Crowley from Good Omens, a fallen angel himself. We have more definitions apart from "disobedient loser" that the most tradcath and sexist religious people use to demean or oppress anyone who isn't white, cis, straight, male, and even rich.
We already know that Rhaenyra is full within her rights to "seek revenge"; in the Christian canon, Lucifer is not considered to be in any sort of right against God. They decided to focus on the canon interpretation & weaponize it against Rhaenyra, framing her usurpation as divine punishment from the "godlike" Alicent. Alicent becomes less human and her actions and deliberate choice to dress this way go unexamined because it feels natural to these people--she dresses that way bc she is godlike. And yet "(stifled by her own prison of faith)"; they don't even understand that they kinda "imprison" her by characterizing her the way they do! In this way, those people show how they believe their Alicent is the highest and best form of woman there should be, pedestalizing her simultaneously. Ironic.
"(stifled by her own prison of faith)"; they don't even understand that they kinda "imprison" her by characterizing her the way they do!
For these people, the positive of Alicent's religious entrapment is that it realizes a fantasy reminiscent of those that plague Sansa stans-- gives them license to demand obedience and admiration from others without having to really work at earning respect.
Same old, same old.

Radfems are just so goddamn fucking stupid that it’s heartbreaking. Imagine calling yourself a “radical feminist” and then spouting off a bunch of tradcath neonazi bullshit. Tragic, I genuinely hope they get better soon.

-walking down the street, sees a group holding a massive red banner with a gold lion on it-
"Ugh, what is this bullshit now?"
-sees it's a group of young men in suits with red sashes and a megaphone, and the banner reads 'Tradition Family Property'-
"...yeah, that's definitely right-wing."
-googles-
"Tradcaths who oppose the Pope and Socialism. Huh."

People on their own accounts doing consensual sexual activities can be as much of a sex pest as they want. They’re allowed to, it’s hurting no one, they’re having fun and you’re making bigoted statements about people minding their own?
Especially regarding your comments towards trans people, you clearly have zero regard for the millions of trans people alive now or in the past who either are or were completely vanilla as far as sexuality goes. Your unjustified prudishness, which could just as easily be extended to apply to cishet people, being weaponised specifically against trans folk is highly indicative of your inner moral compass at large and I hope you’re ashamed of yourself for being so prejudiced, ignorant and intolerant.
Justify your bullshit however you please, I’m going to block you and move on either way so I don’t give a shit if you even respond to this, I’ll never know nor care. I just wanted to tell you with all the love and adoration in my heart for all the people who express and enjoy themselves in the ways you wish to punch down on, go fuck yourself to hell and back xx.
"I sent you a long-ass ask but I don't care."
Ok. Then for anyone else who actually has functioning brain cells: having fetishes and being a sexual person isn't an issue. Having your only mood be "horny" at all times is an issue and pointing that out isn't prudish, and that does apply to cishet people too. You can see me on this blog making fun of the retards who talk about how tradcath they are on their blogs full of porn. Get a fucking hobby.

I swear I've said this like thirty bajillion times but people who were teenage girls on this website like ten years ago never unlearned their internalized misogyny they just decided they were gay/bi/trans/what-have-you and called it a day and it damn well SHOWS in the way people are so eager to shut down any discussion of misogyny with "okay but THAT woman is rich/white/cis/straight/abled so I don't care" as if any of those things negate that she's a woman (spoiler alert: they don't) and the way you were so eager to crucify amber heard when you were looking at the most textbook fucking case of DARVO known to man and even when a woman DOES do something shitty instead of actually addressing that you'd rather call her an old hag cunt who looks like a horse and is aging like milk because she's #problematic and the way we rehash the "not like other girls" discourse every other year (yes GNC women are marginalized, no it doesn't mean you get to call feminine women dumb bitch slut airhead whores who couldn't possibly have the same kind of rich inner life or varied interests as you) and the way you fall for any stupid tradcath bullshit just as long as it's wrapped in a cutesy little cottagecore ancom fantasy package (how dare you want a career instead of staying at home and cooking and sewing like you're naturally supposed to do!) because "lol #girlbosses are soooooooooo cringey and tryhard" as if women (especially women in make dominated fields) aren't already undermined and subjected to concern trolling 24/7 like it's just so transparent it's all so fucking transparent

a while back, i saw an anon arguing in an ask that secularism could be used as a tool of oppression; the blogger who had received their message responded that in such cases, it was rather christian-centrism, citing the example of france, and... i didn't how to put a proper addition to the post into words at the time, but i felt like there was a slight misunderstanding of the situation coming from both sides.
even though the blogger was right about the fact that (cultural) christianity is hegemonic here, catholicism* is far from influencing politics as much as evangelical christofascism in the us, or any religious institution that's closely mingled with politics in theocratic regimes.
it's not the main force driving the bullshit we've been getting in the last years; or rather, the rhetoric used to discriminate religious minorities, and in particular muslims, is not rooted in christian-centrism, although still in the context of christian hegemony. but it's not laïcité in its original meaning either -- the bigoted politicians who pretend to be pro-secularism deeply misunderstand what it actually is about.
indeed, i'd personally argue that france's current islamophobic policies are specifically rooted in anti-clericalism and racism (and unfortunately, these ideologies are not just someting we have deal with from right-wingers, but from some people in the left as well**) , and go against the principles of the 1905 law, which officially separated the churches (plural, as in organised religions) and the state.
*not to say that tradcaths aren't an issue anymore (unfortunately, they are), but they don't have the same political power today than in the early 20th century.
**they are often dubbed 'la gauche laïcarde' by those who (rightfully) criticize their racism, but, surprisingly, 'laïcard' was used to refer to the actual pro-secularism left in the 20th century who advocated for religious freedom and were nicknamed 'socialo-papalins' the same way leftist politicians who voice their opposition to racism today are called 'islamo-leftists' by the far right...
(more under the cut; as a disclaimer, i am not muslim myself -- additions from muslim users who want to bring their perspective on the topic or correct anything are welcome.)
laïcité and anti-clericalism
the 1905 law was meant to ensure freedom of conscience and guarantee the free exercise of religion. it states that the republic does not recognize, pay, or subsidize any organized religion; expenses related to the exercise of faith have been removed from state budgets, departments and municipalities, with exceptions in schools, colleges, hospitals, asylums and prisons as to ensure the free exercise of religon in public institutions. (this has changed with more recent laws, as religious signs are now banned in schools, though.)
while this law was being debated in parliament, a mp named chabert proposed an amendment that banned religious clothing (more specifically, it banned the cassock worn by priests) in public, accusing those who wear it of proselytism, representing the anti-clerical faction. another mp, aristide briand, argued that banning a certain type of clothing because it is religious would go against the principle of freedom of conscience, because expressing your spiritual beliefs extends to your bodily autonomy and getting to express them through what you wear (!). this amendment, concluded briand, could thus lead to intolerance.
aristide briand and jean jaurès, who took part in writing the 1905 law, then managed to break the 'catholic bloc' in two to isolate extremists (who were obviously not thrilled by this law, given they believed in 'france is a catholic nation' shit and stuff, yknow); and by writing it in a way that was inclusive, allowing the majority of catholics to keep practicing their religion without the state getting involved as long as they agreed to respect civil tolerance, they got the moderate catholic mps on board for the separation of church and state-- which was decisive for the law to finally get approved.
they wanted the state to consider religious bodies like just any private actors, instead of something that has to be controlled or funded. in addition to this, the reason why they chose secularism over anti-clericalism (which, remember, is not only against the involvement of the church in state affairs as well, but also against public manifestations of faith to the point of wanting to ban any religious sign in public spaces) is because they understood that asking people to abjure their religion would be counterproductive, and reinforce their faith as well as breed more extremism instead. to them, the best tool against the involvement of religion in politics is a public secular education for everyone (because before free public education was a thing, kids were most often schooled by the church, and, well...this education was Not neutral)...
the connections with today's debates
...and today, we are seeing people re-using this same anti-clerical rhetoric when debates about religious signs arise, except against muslims this time. muslims as inherently proselyting by existing (unlike, you've guessed it, the manifestations of cultural christianity present everywhere, and that's where christian-centrism Hits ✨), and incapable of agency because... racism (with a sprinkle of sexism when it comes to women wearing hijabs), but in the name of 'laïcité' this time... when the policies they're advocating for such as banning headscarfs and modest swimwear in public spaces do not respect the principles of the 1905 law.
bans are not going to actually help the women in conservative communities who are actually being forced to wear them; instead, they are also dehumanized and denied agency by those pretending to save them, and we must not fall in this trap of believing that is actually secularism (which was not mean to be oppressive, re: the historical explanation above), or dismiss it as a simple manifestation of christian-centrism alone.
we have to repoliticize the issue, properly address the ideology behind recent islamophobic legislation, and fight it by advocating for bodily autonomy and freedom of conscience instead of debating on the semantics of religious signs and whether or not they're actually oppressive themselves / are worth being banned and in which contexts, etc.
when racists -- both individuals and lawmakers who have political power in their hands -- respond to legitimate backlash by saying 'but it's not about race, it's about religion, i'm allowed to criticize islam teehee', they're saying this because 'direct' racism is becoming less socially acceptable to show, so targeting expressions of islam has become the easy way for them. at least, that's how i understand it; just see how le pen has 'softened' her discourse on the topic, even though if you closely pay attention to her program and speeches, you can still spot her white supremacist ideology. we must not fall for their trap.
lastly, i just want to make clear that when i am talking about islamophobia here, i am referring to a specific kind of bigotry in the context of western countries, and not to people who were raised muslim and ended up not agreeing with the beliefs of this religion anymore on a personal level and/or are calling out conservatism in their communities, fighting oppressive regimes in countries where islam is hegemonic (ex: iran), etc. their voices and experiences are also important. do not blindly over-correct every muslim woman talking about the misogyny she might face in her community for islamophobia, folks
[ muslims are welcome to add onto this post; fellow white people, do not clown in the notes. ]

I really hate when I keep seeing Green stans constantly claiming that Team Black and Targ fans are hypocrites because they unironically love and stan Maegor and other bad Targs yet, at the same time, unfairly hate on Aemond…when it's actually them who stan Aemond (and Aegon II) despite him possesing every single bad character they condemn the rest of the Targaryens for. You're obviously right about noticing Aemond's parallel with Maegor. There are even more if we think about it: they both killed their nephews and became kinslayers, both usurped or helped usurping the throne, both unfairly massacred the ruling houses of Harrenhal causing them to go extinct (Harroway and Strong), both claimed the biggest dragon alive at the time and, overall, both had quite similar personalities. Yet, Green stans keep being even more obtuse and say it's actually Daemon who is the second coming of Maegor and a villain. Aemond is, after all, just a misunderstood young man who became a war criminal because he was bullied as a child. Oh and he was also NOT a misogynist and a rapist because he loved and married Alys despite her being a bastard and because he listened to her once when he didn't kill a messenger once…
All of this bullshit is because they stan the villains of the story and do not want to admit it.
What's funny is that those green stans would be taken at their word more concerning some black stans unironically liking Maegor's cruelty that's based on patriarchal entitlement, even if he did war against the hated Faith, its High Septon, its Militant and Poor Fellows for most his reign. Because I do agree with the sentiment. If one likes him ironically, I can get behind that.
But when green stans are saying it, it's more to discredit their vision of what the Targs are and they often perform much of the misogyny and blood purity that Aemond had though their making illegitimacy a son in heir langauge and arguments and slut-shaming Rhaenyra, trying to discourage support for her at every turn through shaming people for acknowledging that she is the protagonist and the one we are supposed to root for. Etc. It's obvious that they don't care about any progression but are tradfems, tradCaths, and political conservatives once you spot how they try this puritanical shaming so they can then argue they can ship a worse character themselves and agent way with their bigotry.
Because of their real concern was how misogynist this black stans are, then the themselves would not advantage for the continuation of gender violence, female chastity and slut shaming, women purposefully trying to strip other women from autonomous power using such patriarchal/blood purist standards AND targeting her children.
