"Shielded by my own obscurity, and by the lapse of years, and a few fictitious names, I do not fear to venture; and will candidly lay before the public what I would not disclose to the most intimate friend." (Agnes Grey, A Novel – Anne Brontë, 1847)
anne brontë likers we need to unionize.
ah, the 1840s! the brontë sisters, edgar allen poe, charles dickens... and what i can only imagine is an incredibly confusing amount of petticoats. the torso becomes thinner and longer, with the characteristic "point" ending of the bodice. skirts continue to grow, and grow, and grow... you get the point. sleeves fluctuate through this era, but are more often than not kept close to the arms – a major difference from the 1830s. the stereotypical victorian conservatism can be seen in daydresses of this era. speaking of daydresses, it became easier for women of the (gasp) lower class to mimic the styles of upper class women, as fashion moved from trims to the fabric and cuts themselves. its much easier for your average woman to obtain fabric than to obtain jewels, for example. going forward, expect a mix of upper and lower (more accurately, the slowly forming middle) class fashions!
also, i have been flying through these. i have no idea how long this amount of energy and hyperfocus is going to last. also also, to every cc creator that is getting tagged over and over: i'm sorry. it is a cc desert out here and you are oases. also also also: i reused a dress once. i could have sworn i downloaded ten but apparently i only downloaded nine ??

The first lookbook of the 1930s! Rubens's clothes are simple and he prefers to wear a hat to almost every occasion. If he were better off, he would dress up more but because of his financial situation he rather use his money for something more necessary than to spend it on clothes.
Everyday: Vest and pants / Shoes (my wedding stories) Formal: Jacket / Pants* / Hat Going out: Outfit and hat Going out 2: Suit / Hat Sleepwear: Nightgown Summer: Outfit  Winter: Coat / Pants / Hat

An 1890s Lookbook / Meg Calloway
My first ever lookbook! Here we see Meg at the start of her married life. Her style is very simple, mostly due to money being very tight. This is also evident through the number of pieces she owns and the number of outfit repeats. Though her outfits may be simple, I've tried to add some soft femininity to Meg's more formal outfits to show her the kind of life she aspires to have.
Everyday / hair (similar, couldn't find the actual one) / blouse* / skirt / shoes
Going out / hat / dress
Formal / hair / dress* / hat
Athletic / hat / blouse* / skirt*
Sleepwear / hair / nightgown
Party / (same as formal)
Swimwear / swimming costume
Hot Weather / hat / blouse* / skirt*
Cold Weather One / dress
Cold Weather Two / hat / coat / skirt

Lookbook: Madeline, Wilbur, & Claude Lynch, 1920s
Since it wouldn't be fair to just do one or two of the triplets, this is a three-for-one. The Lynch triplets aged up to teens in the late 1920s. While the three of them, especially Wilbur and Claude, were dressed similarly as children, they've begun to take on their own styles. Madeline is a bit of an odd duck and free spirit, Wilbur enjoys more youthful, casual clothes, and Claude is a bit more conservative and muted in his fashion.
Madeline (Hair) Everyday: Dress | Stockings (BG) | Shoes (BG) Formal: Dress | Stockings (BG) | Shoes Athletic: Blouse | Knickers | Stockings (BG) | Shoes (BG) Sleepwear: Pajamas | Slippers (BG) Party: Dress | Stockings (BG) | Shoes | Flower Crown Swimwear: Swimsuit Hot Weather: Blouse | Knickers | Stockings (BG) | Shoes (BG) | Flower Crown Cold Weather: Coat | Stockings (BG) | Shoes (BG) | Hat

Stephany Coates | 1900s
The final lookbook that I definitely didn’t forget about for a working class woman living in the rural American South during the 1900s.
Stephany is an educated woman, a teacher, and a mother. She strikes me as a person who has a soft sophistication to them. For some reason, this led to light blue becoming her feature color. Her look is very soft and feminine but also it gives me the impression of someone with a quiet authority.

I love the historical challenges and custom content, but we can't always download all available content.
So I decided to make a lookbook of in-game items, including some packs and expansions.

The Crumplebottoms | An Unequivocal Bond
Inseparable since childhood, Dowager Countess Agnes Crumplebottom and Lady Agatha Crumplebottom have truly never known a day apart. Together, they have had many a grand adventure over the last few decades. From evading unscrupulous suitors to dancing the night away in opulent ballrooms, they have seen each other through life's most joyous and saddest moments. Agnes inherited a sizable estate in the quaint village of Henford-on-Bagley. With Agatha by her side, Agnes established a prestigious finishing school, Miss Cordelia's Academy for Young Ladies. Families send their daughters from far and wide to become accomplished ladies under the tutelage of the Crumplebottoms.
So where have I been...somehow got sucked into historical gameplay (specifically regency era) and having so much fun building out my own historical save file. I'm trying to commitment to SimBridgerton Challenge and so far so good...
Truthfully I've been very much inspired by @janesimsten incredible mods as well as amazing tumblrs like @regencysims4, @moon-simmers,@inlovewithregencyera, @peebsplays and @notsooldmadcatlady to name a few!
I've tried to incorporate some of my favorite townies and loved building out the Crumplebottoms story. I'll be posting more soon!

Up until the 1300s clothing was relatively functional and basic, but during this century we saw the emergence of formally recognised "fashion". Previously draped garments and straight seams were replaced by curved seams and more fitted silhouettes thanks to the beginnings of tailoring, as well as the introduction of lacing and buttons.

"There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor." (A Christmas Carol – Charles Dickens, 1847)
surprise!!! here's some boys for y'all!
fashion just... didn't change as much or as drastically for men as it did for women. there's a few reasons for this, like the association of fashion with women, that fashion was one of few accepted ways of women's expression, that the way men were dressed was under less of a microscope... etc. etc. also, a lot of top hats were worn pretty much through the century, but i kept on forgetting them :(

During the 1890s and the early twentieth century, infants, no matter their sex, were dressed in long white gowns that could be bleached cleaned. This fashion remained the same until WW1 as rationing meant that hemlines shortened. Bonnets remained common accessories though the hair bow gained popularity for baby girls in the 1910s.
By the 1920s, baby fashion in line with adult clothing, was sailor inspired and hemlines crept higher up. This trend continued to the 1930s as the great depression meant fabric was scarce and expensive. In fact, for poorer families, infant clothing was handmade with whatever was available, including flour sacks and old curtains.
The 1940s meant WW2 and any sort of elaborateness was very frowned upon. Fabrics were cheap cottons and almost always recycled and knit clothing rose in popularity.
Prosperity and affluence defined the 1950s and this was reflected in baby clothing. Baby boys were dressed similar to older men in little suits with shorts instead of long pants and little girls in full, babydoll dresses. This era also established the stereotypical blue for boys;pink for girls that remains till today.
