as someone who's barely too young to remember 9/11 i appreciate your post about it. this might be uhhhhh awful of me, but the aftermath of 9/11 and how it's shaped american culture, not to mention the pointless bloody war that used it as justification, sometimes make me want to treat it like it's just a big joke. it's good to be reminded that behind all that was a terrible, preventable tragedy

i had a post last year where i talked a little bit about why a lot of us do laugh at it that boils down to 1. it was the point in history where america lost its fucking mind and 2. making fun of it was an instant berserk button for conservatives lol. for the reasons you listed it has become less and less sacred, but i think if people are going to clown on it (as we are want to do as humans) they also need to be acutely aware of what it is they're about to take a swing at.

at the very least, it will make it more and more clear where the lines are drawn for what is or isn't acceptable. i still lol every time i think about that muppet christmas special from 2002 (?!) that shows the world if kermit was never born and for some reason the towers are still standing

i feel kind of bad for joker Kermit on one hand because it seems like he's completely inept and doesn't take any social cues well but on the other he also withheld your epi pen while you were going through anaphylactic shock because you were interrupting his Kermit porn fanfic and to be honest that's terrifying.
