“Depression Is as Man Has Made It,” Kingston Whig-Standard. February 27, 1933. Page 2. ---- Greed and Foolishness Primary Causes - Sydenham St. Anniversary ---- That the depression is the world to-day is as man made it, was the declaration of Rev. W. Harold Young. D. D. of Toronte preaching at Sydenham Street United Church on Sunday morning, on the occasion of the 122 anniversary of this church. The speaker said that when man did certain things there was only one possible outcome; we are now in the midst of it. For one thing man had plunged into a war so large that for fifteen years nations had been trying to pay back their debts. When following the war there had been developed national selfishness such as had never been witnessed before, with each nation endeavoring to get the barriers as high as possible against each other. This had caused loss of trade.
Dr. Young spoke from the text “There is therefore how no condemnation to them which are in Christ,” taken from Romans chapter 8. verse 1. He referred to the penalty of wrong living, both in the individual life and in the life of a nation. A nation ould reap that which was sown. Instead of selfishness and prejudice there should be a spirit of good will among the individuals as well as the nations. There should be gladness and peace, "And this is the message for the church today?" added the speaker. "And this is a message for this church to-day on the occasion of our anniversary. It is a message for the world. We must bare that good will spirit - that spirit of helpfulness and brotherhood in Christ. May we a Individuals see this and may the churches also ate it. And if we all manifest this spirit and help to do the things for which we were bat, t will mean the beginning of a new day of living."
Rev. Dr. Young, preached at both services. Prior to delivering his sermon, Dr. Young paid a warm tribute to the service rendered by Sydenham Street United Church and to its long and distinguished history.
Rev, J. R. Watts, D. D, conducted the morning service and Rev. B Me Lean Gillmour, conducted the evening service. Music by the choir was under the direction of Dr. Grenville B. Frost organist and choir master. The musical program in the morning included the anthem "Rejoice in the Lord, O Ye Righteous" (Alfred Hollins). Mrs.. Cecil Wyatt took the solo part. At the evening service the program included the anthem "At the Name of Jesus" (Vaughan Will): solo, "Come Unto Him, All Ye That Labor" Hanel Mrs. Wyatt, and motet "To Thee O Lord Do I Lift Up My Sou. (Rachmaninoff)

Sure you can trust the government. Just ask an Indian...
The quote above is often attributed to Henry Ford, but in trying to confirm that, I struck out. Several have said something similar and millions agree. The evidence is in this book, which is both shocking and heartbreaking. Its essence is captured in its subtitle: “The case of 60,000 murdered children and the man who surfaced their fate.” The author, Kevin Annett, was a priest associated with…

A B.C. church has once again been targeted for what appears to be the display of Pride flags. Delta police said a man shattered two windows where Pride flags were hanging, on the night of Sept. 22 at Ladner United Church. A CCTV video has been released by police in hopes of furthering the investigation. In the video, a man can be seen riding up to the church on a bicycle before the windows were smashed. Police said the bicycle is unique, with fenders, light-coloured brake lines, front shocks and a dark frame. It is the sixth incident of similar nature at the church.

I’m the type of person who goes to a flea market at her grandma’s church to look for clothes, ends up becoming the head cashier bc two volunteers didn’t show up, and then makes it into the church newsletter re-capping the event (← ridiculous scenario that would never ever happen)

“The Benediction Never Ends” at Westminster Presbyterian Church
On September 17, 2023, Rev. Dr. Tim Hart-Andersen, Senior Pastor at Minneapolis’ Westminster Presbyterian Church, delivered the second of his last seven sermons, “The Benediction Never Ends at Westminster Presbyterian Church,” before he retires at the end of October. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-united-church-to-transform-its-properties/
This is a good move to help tackle the housing crisis. The United Church of Canada is going to transform many disused churches and related properties into below-market-rate rental apartments aimed at lower-income people, backed by the government-run Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

International Workers’ Day
Appreciate the many ways you and others build our society, and acknowledge your own hard work by treating yourself kindly on National Worker’s Day.
Everybody loves to spend time on their hobbies! It doesn’t matter if it is a love of shopping, diving, going to the movies, traveling, hiking, or one of thousands of other leisure activities. Many people probably spend a large part of their lives figuring out how to do it more often.
Unfortunately, however, the truth is that in order for most people to have the money to do what they love to do in their spare time, it is necessary to be gainfully employed. Of course, there are also some lucky people on the earth who truly love their jobs!. But regardless of how much people enjoy doing their jobs, they simply have to be done.
Of course, it is also important to remember that each and every little job that a person does is necessary and valuable to society, from garbage man to nurse to teacher to policeman, and so many others.
Together, all of humankind builds society, making it a better, safer place with each passing year. Now, isn’t that something worth celebrating? Many people all over the world seem to think it is!
So now is the time to learn about and celebrate International Workers’ Day together!
The History of International Workers’ Day
In the late 19th Century, trade union and labor movements, along with countless industries, grew. This growth from cottage industry and individual laborers through the industrial revolution eventually prompted trade unionists to begin to work toward protecting the rights of the employees. Whether this was child labor laws, limited working hours, or safe working conditions, labor unions fought to take care of the workers.
Sometimes these types of actions might lead to protests, work stoppages, labor strikes or even special days to celebrate the people’s labor. In the United States and Canada, a September holiday called Labor Day, was first proposed in the 1880s. Several years later, in 1887, North America officially established Labor Day.
May 1st, on the other hand, also known as May Day, was chosen for International Workers’ Day to commemorate the Haymarket affair of May 4th 1886. This event took place in Chicago, Illinois, in the US during a workers’ strike when an unidentified person threw a bomb at the police who had gathered for crowd control. The police then responded by opening fire on the workers, killing four of them and injuring many others.
Today, International Workers’ Day is observed on the first day of May on every continent. And now it’s time to celebrate this day literally all over the world!
International Workers’ Day Timeline
1856 Australian stonemasons protest
In Victoria, stonemasons undertake a massive stoppage in a movement toward an eight-hour workday.
1882 Labor Day is proposed for the US
Different workers’ rights advocates propose the idea of an American Labor day. Though many states do adopt the day, it will be another dozen years before it is made a federal holiday (celebrated in September).
1886 The Haymarket Affair takes place
In Chicago, riots break out as workers strike and police get involved, turning to violence and creating panic.
1889 International Workers’ Day is established
With roots in the socialist movement, May 1st is called upon as a protest day for the working-class demands of the eight-hour day.
1919 International Labor Organization begins
Created as part of the Treaty of Versailles, the International Labor Organization (ILO) includes representatives from nine countries.
How to Celebrate International Workers’ Day
This day was always meant to celebrate the work of the everyday man, so for those who may have been feeling a bit underappreciated recently, today might be a good day for you to do what you feel like doing and treat yourself!
Try out some of these other ideas for getting involved and celebrating International Workers’ Day:
Take a Day to Yourself
Take the day off (if it’s not a day off work in that country of residence) and go do something that you want to do for a change. Consider some of these ways to find enjoyment and rest:
Has it been ages since you visited the mountains? Pack a lunch and spend the day enjoying nature and the view from the mountain peak you decide to conquer.
Has your back been causing you increasing discomfort recently? Time to make an appointment with a good masseuse!
And if it’s been forever since you took the time to make yourself a decent meal, today is the perfect day to buy all of the ingredients you need and spend as much time as you want cooking something delicious and nutritious.
No matter what is chosen, this is the day to do something enjoyable and restful!
Attend an International Workers’ Day Event
For those who might be feeling a bit more politically inclined, this day offers an ideal opportunity to attend one of the many rallies or marches that are often organized in many cities worldwide. These rallies and marches are typically organized and dedicated to raising awareness about fair wages and fair working conditions. After all, the first step towards making any kind of change is making people aware of the issue!
Learn About the History of Workers’ Rights
This day is the ideal time to head over to the library and do a little research and read about different situations that have led up to the celebration of International Workers’ Day. For instance, start by researching these pivotal topics:
Victorian Workhouses. Infamous for their exploitation of the weak and the poor, even children fell victim to these houses that were essentially prisons in 18th century England.
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. In a New York City factory in 1911, the exits and stairwells were kept locked to keep workers from taking unauthorized breaks. When a fire broke out, 123 women and girls and 23 men, mostly immigrants, died.
Sweatshops. Even today, sweat factories exist as crowded workplaces with poor and sometimes illegal conditions, including poor ventilation, low lighting, high/low temperatures, unfair wages, unhealthy or dirty environments, child labor, extended hours without breaks and much more.
Host an International Workers’ Day Gathering
If it is difficult to find an event in the local area, then perhaps it is time to start one. Gather together a few friends, family members, neighbors or coworkers and hold a conversation about fair working. Perhaps it could be a dinner party where the topic of conversation revolves around ways to right the injustices or difficult conditions in certain places.
Or maybe it should be more of an activist gathering where t-shirts are printed and picket signs are made in support of fairness in employment. Go with what works for each individual and the community!

Israel was created by resolution 181 of the United Nations, which was passed by the General Assembly. Its no less legitimate then uganda or china or poland or canada or mexico or ukraine or Indonesia
There are dozens of christian states in the world, with official state churches in europe.
There are what, 15 islamic countries?
Why do jew haters focus on the one jewish state I wonder?
People seem to complain only about the jewish state? And never mention the half of arabs who chose to stay and now are full israeli citizens
Maybe, I mean this might be a hunch, but could it be that people hate your settler colonial state because it has AND is openly enacting genocide at this very moment? Or is that too antisemitic for the Zionists to grasp?

The B.H. Roberts Foundation did a large survey of current and former Latter-day Saints in the "Mormon Corridor."
There's two results I thought worth sharing.
10% of Latter-day Saints agreed on some level that the Church should solemnize same-sex marriages in the temple
While 10% doesn't seem like much, it's a lot more than the Church leadership would like as they've been pushing hard against the idea of the church ever accepting gay marriages, let alone for those to sealed in the temple.
Research shows the tipping point for large-scale change is 25% support. Getting to 25% is slow, requires a lot of people to have courage to stand against the accepted norms. Once it hits 25%, it feels safe for people to express support and for folks to reconsider their position and support grows quickly.
I think a lot of members who would support same-sex marriages in temples are more likely to leave the church, LGBTQ policies are often cited in surveys as reasons people left. Of those who remain, it's at 10% and growing.
2. Former members are nearly four times as likely to identify as LGBTQ.
This means a lot of LGBTQ members are leaving the LDS church. If I'm doing the math correctly, about 80% of LGBTQ people who responded to the survey were no longer in the LDS Church. I think it's easy to conclude that the church is not meeting the needs of LGBTQ people, or that queer people see life outside the church as better than if they remain.
I think both these percentages would be higher if the survey were to include members/former members who live across the United States and Canada, not just those who live in the Mormon corridor.

Something in the Water Part 2
Part 2 of Something in the Water
There's been an unexplained epidemic sweeping across the United States all stemming from few months ago. It seemed like in a single day all of Los Angeles was.... changed somehow. They'd all become homophobic, straight, conservative Christians. Nobody could figure out what or who was the cause.  Now, months later a little over half of the United States have been affected. The United States has been completely isolated from the rest of the world due to what's going on in the nation. It's gotten so bad that even the United Kingdom and Canada have shut their borders to all travel from the United States. As far as anywhere is aware the United States is the only country that has been affected by the changes occurring. _________________ Darien left the house after kissing his boyfriend Riley goodbye. He wanted to stay behind to take care of his boyfriend as he had started to feel a bit unwell shortly before Darien had to leave for work but Riley told him to just go and that he will be just fine. He showed up to work his job as an intern for the local water plant and noticed things were a little off. He was let in by a stud of a man with a thick southern accent named Tanner. He thought it odd because it'd always been a skinny little guy named Tommy who'd always let him in. He decided to just ignore it and continue off to work. The whole shift started to be weird to him so many southerners were working today. He figured there must have just been a bunch of new hires and he kept working as usual. After all, he has only been an intern for a couple months now. Who's to say the previous people working those jobs didn't just leave and needed replacing? A few hours into the job he decided to take a break. He brewed himself a cup of coffee using  the "Farmer Joe's Instant coffee" and water from the break room. He walked out to a private area and pulled his cell out and decided to call his boyfriend. As it rang he took a large sip of his coffee. "Hello, Riley." he spoke into the phone. He loved that man so much, they had met when they were freshmen in college. It was love at first sight for him, well for Riley it took him a few days but eventually he fell for him. "Riley? Have ya hit yer head or somethin'?" a man with a thick southern accent on the other side line said "The name's Ryan, how in sam hell did ya' forget that? Is your ass drunk again? Ya better not be plannin' to hog all that beer." Darien felt his body start to freeze as he hung up the phone in a daze. He couldn't believe it. He looked at his phone and saw it does say Ryan. He could of sworn he called his boyfriend Riley... Wait, boyfriend? but isn't he single? He felt his body start to get a little hot and the urge to pee so he went to the bathroom. He kept drinking his coffee as he was headed to the bathroom. His body only got hotter and it felt like his shirt was becoming tighter as he was walking. Unknown to him his body had begun changing and started to inflate with muscle and height. He set his coffee down on the counter as went over to a urinal to take a piss. Dartiy's previously mid length blonde hair receded to become short and brown. His body started to strain on him so he took it off. His mind began to flood with conflicting memories. Suddenly he started to remember being raised surrounded by country boy's despite not living in the country, going to church every Sunday even though he had been an atheist and Durty even remembered his first girlfriend, Kimberly.  That thought shocked him and had him confused because isn't he gay? Wasn't the first person he dated a boy named Kayden? The shirt in his hand had turned into a camo hat as he was thinking that. He felt an irresistible compulsion to put the hat on his head and when he did the world around him seemed to spin and shook his head and suddenly he was somewhere else entirely. He started calling himself an idiot cuz really? Him, Dusty Adams, being a fag? "A fag could never look this good" he thought as he looked at himself in the the mirror and started to flex in all his shirtless glory. He grabbed the beer he had set on the sink counter and chugged the last of it before letting out a loud belch and walking out of his bathroom. He called his neighbor Ryan up and told him his plans and to get ready. He went to his garage and grabbed a case of beers, texted some hoes where to show up and headed off Ryan's to share some beer and get them some pussy. Farmer Joe's plans are working. Now it's not just the water he is affecting and soon, all of the United States shall be changed for the better.

What?
A relatively modest selection of fifty-seven Baptist denominations presently active in the United States and Canada, duking it out in Tumblr poll format.
Why?
Funzies. And because the Baptists' early group elimination from the @christian-denominations-poll prevented their delicious fractiousness from properly shining in this format.
When?
Preliminary heats start posting on Trinity Sunday (that's June 4th to those of you not on the Revised Common Lectionary). The final bracket of fifteen denominations will announce on June 18th.
How?
Denominations were gathered from here, excluding inactive and purely regional organizations. To avoid having to seed an enormous bracket, I divided the candidate denominations into categories based on theological-ecclesiological heritage and also Vibe. Those groups will be whittled down pair by pair in (mostly) week-long polls until one denomination is left standing in each category. Those winning denominations will be included in the ultimate fifteen-member bracket of day-long polls.
I've added Wikipedia links to articles on each denomination for the benefit of those less familiar. No Anabaptists, because 1) this selection is messy enough as it is and 2) it seems mean to make the peace churches fight.
