It's a pleasant night. His belly is full, his feet throbbing after dancing all over the tavern like he was the eighteen-year-old bard he used to be. He's no longer that foolish child, not after everything. The only thing left from the eighteen-year-old Jaskier is Geralt. Jaskier smiles at the thought. Speaking of a certain witcher, he's sitting on the chair by the window, the light from the fire coloring his side with an auspicious orange hue. He’s so handsome.
It's been a while since the last time he traveled with Geralt, quite a while since the last time they were traveling to a big town, Oxenfurt specifically. That's the reason he feels so content, lightheaded in the best of ways and a little bit excited. You see, he's received a letter from the university. He will be named Artist of the Decade in a major award (obviously) as part of the Oxenfurt Music and Arts festival. Artist of the decade, him, Jaskier. Valdo Marx shited in his pants when the results were published, Jaskier imagined.
"I hope he'll be there! I want to see his cherry plump face when I'm called to the stage. ‘Vulgar art’ he said, he called me untalented, the bastard" The bard is beginning to remove his clothes before going to bed, he's undoing the laces of his boots while talking like eighteen-year-old Jaskier used to. "I'm sure he'll be there. That snake. There was a time he told everyone at the music guild that the lyrics of my song were false, that you weren't even my friend!”
"Most of the lyrics aren’t exactly true" says Geralt in the background, Jaskier ignores him.
"Oh oh oh I want to see his face when he sees you there"
“Jaskier” Geralt calls
"Take that mister 'i'm better than you' "
“Jaskier” Geralt calls
"Yes, darling?" Answers Jaskier with fond exasperation. He's having a big monologue here and that's the moment Geralt decides he wants to add to the conversation. He's been quiet lately.
"I'm not going" Jaskier feels a bold blow on the center of his chest. His heart hunching on itself at registering those words. He understands perfectly well but decides to play dumb anyway. "Where, darling?" and apparently Geralt wants to play dumb too because he stays silent.
"Can I ask why?" Jaskier crosses his arms in front of his chest, already defensive and Geralt is there, still sitting, with a somber expression. This is going to end in an argument, both of them can tell.
"I can't"
"Alright..." Geralt hates being prompted to talk when the conversation is tense, but Jaskier can help it, and doesn't want to help him.
"I'm sorry" at least here he looks remorseful.
"No, no, Geralt. You promised!"
"I'm sorry, something has come up..." Jaskier takes two steps forward and Geralt stands raising his hands in a placating manner.
"What has come up...?" And then Jaskier remembers, the black speck against the window in the middle of the night a week ago. "Does this have something to do with that raven?" Geralt growls, sometimes he forgets his bard used to be a Redanian spy. “Is it because of Yennefer?”
"I'm sorry" Geralt nods, giving the truth. "Is important"
"This is important too!"
And now the bard is shouting at Geralt, he hates doing that, but the witcher is not helping either.
“It’s an award, you have plenty”
“It’s NOT an award, is THE award”
They are standing in front of the other, speaking to the other’s face, up this close Jaskier can see the pattern of tiny scars all over Geralt's face. The bard takes a couple of calming breaths, trying to keep his temper. He hates arguing with the witcher. "Can't she wait?" he asks, but Geralt only denies with his head, already so sure "What is it about?" the witcher doesn't reply "You don't even know!" There goes Jaskier temper again, the bard throws his arms in the air, exasperated and frustrated. This is important to him, and Geralt knew it and it pains him to realize that the witcher would so easily push him aside. A if Jaskier achievements aren't a thing to cherish and celebrate, as if... he's not important. "She didn't tell, she said It's important" Says Geralt followed by a heavy sigh indicating that he thinks  Jaskier is being childish.
"This is important to me, Geralt - "
" - I know..."
" I asked you to come last year, remember? I told you that I might win the award and you promised you’ll come! I know you don't like big cities but..."
“-I’m sorry” And that's it. Jaskier can feel his heart turning into dust and falling heavily to the pit of his stomach. It's not the same as the mountain, but it feels similar in a way. Jaskier is realizing just how much he means to Geralt. Again. Jaskier holds Geralt's eyes from below, at least the witcher looks ashamed.
And then after a long, resigned sigh the bard murmurs "Whatever" It keeps happening, repeatedly, suddenly and inexplicably he keeps getting hurt with by his own naivety by thinking that someday Geralt would choose him, not over Yennefer, Ciri or the other witchers. Just choose him because he wants to. Because it's fair, because Jaskier wants him to be there.
He likes Yennefer now, he even catches himself thinking of her with love. The kind of love you have for the one that makes your true love happy. But he also knows that she can fend for herself and that it is possible for Geralt to wait at least a day before responding to her siren song. She gets to have him forever, why does Jaskier can't have him only for a fucking day? And now he's being pitiful, and he hates himself a little bit for that.
Maybe he's overreacting, maybe it's not that important… but it is! He wants Geralt to be there, to share the award with him. But at the end it's not Geralt's fault, he'll not resent the witcher for having priorities, a family to take care of which includes Yennefer and the others but not him. Maybe it's time for Jaskier to find his own. He has already spent enough effort in becoming part of Geralt. Jaskier goes to search his travel bag for his notebook, he needs to rework on his acceptance speech.
"I'll gather we'll be parting ways at the crossroads tomorrow?" Jaskier turns around briefly, wanting to see the witcher’s expression, to be suddenly confronted with an uncomfortable and unexpected feeling at reading on Geralt's face, a lot more than surely the witcher wants to convey. Shame, uncertainty, fear of not knowing what went wrong and how to prevent it from getting worse. And Jaskier feels sympathy, despite everything that has happened, what is happening, Geralt tries, on his own, albeit slow way.
"Yeah"
"Good"
Geralt starts fidgeting on the same spot from before, when Jaskier decides he has had enough and turns. The witcher hasn't moved an inch, he's waiting for the other shoe to drop, the bard can tell. But it won’t come to that. Not anymore. Enough of this, enough of scraps.
"I'm going out, don't wait for me" Jaskier murmurs  when he's at the door. Geralt calls for him, but Jaskier pretends to have not heard.
In the morning Geralt arrives at the stables to find Jaskier already waiting for him by Roach. They travel side by side all morning, Jaskier holding his notebook in front of his face, he seems to be reading and rereading the speech, which is weird because he said he's already memorized it. They haven't spoken much, and Geralt hates it. He should be saying something, anything! Something along the lines of "I'll go with you" but Yenn... what if?
Jaskier stops and turns around to face him from below, one hand scratching Roach's neck. They are at the crossroads; it's almost noon and Geralt doesn't know what to say. Their gazes lock for a long time, the wind singing softly around them, the leaves of the trees falling like orange rain. It's so calm. "Take care, Geralt"  Jaskier says in the softest of voices and turns right. Geralt watches marching away, wondering why it feels like a goodbye.
It's funny how loneliness comes in the strangest of forms. Surrounded by dozens of people shouting his name from the square in front of the stage. Wasn't this what you wanted? his mind supplies unhelpfully. Yes, he did want this, the love and admiration of the masses. He is, after all, the artist of the decade. But, well, in retrospect he was young with little knowledge of life. It's only natural that your aspirations may change through the years. Don't get him wrong, older Jaskier wants the same as younger Jaskier, but now, he understands that the love of the masses can't fill the void of being unloved and unwanted by people close to him, or people he thought were close to him. So, he accepts the award with the biggest smile on his repertoire, mocks Valdo Marx and goes to the tavern with a bunch of scholars like him. He drinks, he laughs, he sings a lot of his songs, flirts and plays gwent.  And with every sip of wine and ale he peels a little bit of his sorrow, his wounded self-esteem, his beaten heart, and self-pity. He wished Geralt was here, with him, but he's not here, so be it. Enough of wanting, enough of this ever-present loneliness. He's resolute. He'll find a place to call home, and he won't resent Geralt. Ok maybe a little.
The celebration has reached the part where everyone is drunk enough to dance and sing at the top of their lungs. Jaskier is standing on top of a table surrounded by the taverns, he's leading the song. He's sweating all over, his hair a brown wet mess. He's happy. When the front door swings open, it's Geralt. The witcher removes his hood and instantly locks eyes with the bard. Like a hunter finding his prey. Jaskier stops singing, right there and then, hopefully no one notices because the song continues its course.
No, no, it's too late. Jaskier thinks. I've already made up my mind. The bard climbs down from the table and pushes through the crowd. His mind it's a volatile compass, pointing at his resolution and to Geralt. It tries to decide how to proceed. It tries to decide which path will hurt more or less.
"What are you doing here?" Jaskier is proud of his steady voice. Not even the ale could break him.
"I thought I'd make it on time, ''Geralt replies , his eyes trying to find Jaskier's, but the bard is looking at a spot on the witcher's shoulder.
"You're late" In that moment the blue eyes look up to meet yellow ones, defying Geralt to name the issue. To name the hurt on Jaskier’s eyes the night before. To name the emotion that is now on the bard's eyes.
They both know this isn't about the ceremony, not anymore.
"I'm here now" Geralt says heavily and Jaskier laughs cause it's funny really. i'm here now so it must be enough.
And this is the thing, he forgave Geralt many times thanks to sporadic care and attention that would be forgotten later. His heart is screaming within his chest, the poor thing wants to take Geralt back. But no, Jaskier won't listen to it anymore.
"And you are late"
A girl walks past them holding a tray of beers, Jaskier takes one and drinks half of it in one go.
Geralt watches him, anxiety sewing itself on his veins. He can feel that is it. He fucked up, again, but this time for good.
"I thought Yen’s message was important" Jaskier wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, cursing internally, his tongue loosened by the alcohol. He sounds bitter and resentful. He hates it.
"It is, but this is too" and oh the witcher is trying but instead of being charmed Jaskier gets angry.
"Oh, now it's important, I see. Well, maybe if you have arrived on time for the actual ceremony..."
“…I tried”
"Maybe it wouldn't be too fucking late" A young couple turn to look at them. Feeling embarrassed, Jaskier lowers his voice and continues. "I appreciate the effort, Geralt, but it is an unnecessary one. I’m sorry my friend” says Jaskier, reaching out to place a hand on the Witcher’s muscular arm, trying to convey comradery, an olive branch if you will, for Geralt to take and be gone without blame. If Jaskier dared to look at Geralt's face one more time, he would find sadness, grief, shame, and fear. Every emotion that the witcher always tried to conceal from everyone, especially Jaskier.  “There's an open bar, enjoy the celebration. Rest. I'm going to sleep" In that instant Jaskier's heart broke even more. Oh, how he wanted this man, how he longs for him, decades on end. Even in his resolution he still wants him.
He needs to rest too. He's not young anymore, his feet hurt, and his thighs are trembling from the exertion. So, he turns around up the stairs to his room, closes the door behind and with clothes and all, he gets into bed and sleeps like death.
---
I'm posting this fic again because I just realized that I never posted the ending. I'm stupid. I'm sorry.

El Mariana killed JuanaFlippa... again
And that left me thinking.
Warning: Long post (as always)
It's clear that Mariana is super clumsy both in game and IRL .
I don't know if you guys know that Mariana has a dog called Tilín in real life (yes, the same name as Quackity's egg). The thing is... Mariana's mother has been taking care of his pet because he's just not prepared for taking care of a living being (that dude can barely take care of himself).
As Mariana told Charlie when they had that wholesome conversation months ago: He's a fucking kid.
(he literally said that to Charlie when they where talking about Charlie living alone already: "I'm a fucking kid")
So when Juanaflippa was misclicked by Mariana I was not that surprised honestly and a few days ago, when he literally received a Juanaflippa figurine gifted by a fan IRL and he dropped it after 10 seconds first I laughed and then I thought about something in terms of the QSMP Lore.
The whole egg thing started as a way to unite the first habitants of the island (Spanish and English speakers) but think about it:
Not only they had to find a way to understand each other but they also we're thrown into parenthood without a notice.
If we think about Slimecicle and Mariana in terms of lore everything is just super sad. It's clear that none of them were prepared for such responsibility but I think especially Mariana was not prepared for fatherhood (like on real life lol). Both of them loved Juana so much but Mariana was an inestable factor in that dynamic honestly.
I like to think that Slimecicle is more mature than Mariana (same as in real life, it seems like Charlie is much more mature than Osvaldo, not saying that Valdo is immature, I'm saying that it seems like Charlie is more "adult" than Valdo). So I think deep down q!Slimecicle understands how everything was difficult for Mariana and that's why in his birthday he wished not only for Juana to be there, he also wished for Mariana to be there. I think he understands that everything was just so unfortunate and I can imagine he also empathizes with Mari because he also killed a child by accident. It's clear that he misses Mariana and that even though he doesn't miss a chance to call Mariana "bitch" all of his insults towards Mariana are full of sadness.
At the end of the day this all reminds us all that parenthood is more difficult than people make it seem to be.
Now that Juana (or maybe Code! Juanaflippa) is back I can imagine some scenarios where Mariana is of course happy to see his child but at the same time scared of making the same mistake again.
PS: All of this "Young parenthood mistakes" going on with Slimeriana is such fanfiction material honestly.

honestly you have to admit like. after having Numerous Characterization Issues with their Actual Book -> Screen Characters and in general making Objectively Weird Adaptation Choices. the witcher production team or whatever giving everything they fucking had in their "accurate character vibe" reservoir to valdo marx (a character who is only mentioned in two scenes in the books and is actually never shown in-person/described in appearance) to make him seem exactly how nearly everyone collectively imagined Valdo Marx to be like regardless of fancast is literally one of the funniest goddamn things

Part 2
"Oh- wh- hold on now, thought we were playing for fun?" Jaskier watches Ciri deplete his monitary resources with the sweetest smile, and truly he finds that he doesn't mind.
"I assure you, it truly is a delight taking your coin." He puts on an annoyed face and snatches her cards back just to squeeze another laugh out of her. Gods know this girl needs a bit of levity in her life right now. He wasn't good at a lot of things, realistcally. He's not skilled with a sword, not a pinch of chaos in him, but making people laugh? That he can do.
"Yeah, I'm sure you do." He glances at her, honestly more proud than anything else. Princess Cirilla of Cintra, a fiesty spark of a girl turned warrior. He wasn't there for her initial adjustment with Geralt for...obvious reasons but in the years when he was there, he's seen how brave and noble and irrefutably powerful she is. All that hurt and pain turned into pure determination. She's a flame, just like her mother. And most of all, Jaskier sees so much of his best friend in her. Not just the stubbornness to do good or fierce protectiveness over those she loves, but also the little things that make his heart ache. How she holds her sword, how she likes her meat, hell even how she walks. Undoutably a reflection of her parent's love and guidance.
Her parents...
The sharpness in his chest returns. Its strange. Years and years of loving Geralt had eventually reformed his once raging, constantly ready-to-burst love into a calm, surrendered sort of feeling. It's not that his love for the man lessened. On the contrary, every year he feels them grow and evolve into something more. Knowing that heartbreak was inevitable had given him a bittersweet sort of peace. So the pain in his chest that flares whenever he sees Geralt so openly love Yen faded with time, leaving a dull ache in its place.
Until now.
"I'm sorry you're here with me, instead of at the party." Ciri brings him out of his thoughts. He simply shakes his head.
"Oh, I'm not." In all honestly, he was a bit annoyed that everyone and their mother seemed to be invited to this conclave except him but then he remembers Geralt and Yennefer going together. He could only imagine what fancy, no doubt monochromatic outfit Yen would force Geral to wear. Then again, if Yennefer was the one asking he doubts Geralt would protest. Not as much as he would with him, anyway-
He cuts that train of thought before it sends him spiraling. He had worked so hard to keep himself incheck, keep his feelings to a minimum. To not feel, or at the very least look like the lovesick fool he was before.
"Valdo's off key warblng would make my ears bleed." He settles on a believable and admittedly true excuse. Valdo's overdramatic (even for him) vocals are definitely a factor, but he'd rather listen to that noise for days than watch Geralt dance Yennefer across the ballroom with that soft, painfully besotted look on his face. He might actually die of heartbreak if he does.
"Besides, I'm better off here." He smiles at her, reassuredly. He sees the princess sit up straighter, patting the spot beside her. He raises an eyebrow but sits down nontheless.
"Jask?"
"Yes, coin thief?"
"Does he know?" He feels his heartbeat pick up. He's sure than his body is noticibly tenses, judging by how Ciri looks at him like a kicked fucking puppy.
"Does who know what?" He knows what she's asking, because what else could she mean? But like a coward, he deflects. He turns to humor because really, thats his weapon of choice. She looks at him with such a sad look and he knows he's caught.
"Does Geralt know you love him?" Deflect. Run. Don't answer-
"Of course he knows I love him. He's my best friend." He prays that his answer is enough. It seems like it isn't .
"Jaskier." He is still and silent, almost like how the man in question often is. In the end, he finds that he's tired of lying about what he feels. So, he talks.
"I think so, yes. Pretty hard thing to miss after the years of songs and poetry and...well, you get the picture." He sees her face drop, and a certain panic sets in.
"Ciri- listen, I would never ever try and break up your parents, okay? I-I would never do that to your family." He says in a rush, desperate for her to realizes. Because yes, as much as he loves Geralt, he would never jeopardise this. They were quite literally destined to be together, and if Jaskier feels like his chest is being ripped out by a wyvern everytime he sees them then thats his problem, not theirs.
"You're part of this family too, you know." Jaskier has only ever been truly speechless a handful of times in his life. But when he feels her bring him into a hug far nicer than he technically deserves right now, he finds that he can't bring himself to say anything because gods, he wishes it were true. That he was part of this group. This family and not just a stray thread, waiting to be cut off and thrown away once again.
"You're family too." He nods weakly, a few tears spilling from his eyes. Smaller hands, not yet calloused by swords or spells brush a few tears from his cheeks using the blanket. He laughs wetly, complaining how dusty the blanket is, making him cry more which was definitely the real reason and not anything else.
"And I'm not upset at you Jaskier. I'm upset for you. I don't like seeing you hurt like this..." He sees her brows furrow, hands pulling away to clutch the covers. He chuckles, wiping away the rest of his tears.
"Oh, how lucky a man am I. To have such a fierce warrior-witcher-mage princess protecting me." He smiles but her frown doesn't waver. She adjusts herself on the bed to face him properly, laying on her side and slipping a hand to hold his.
"I'm serious Jaskier! You're happiness is important too." He squeezes the hand on top of his, mustering up enough courage to smile.
"My dear, I am happy with what I have now."
"Liar." He gasps, bringing a hand to his heart. She smiles, just a bit and he counts that as a win
"I would never!" He allows himself to breath when he sees her chuckle. He's exhausted, truly. His body feels heavy with the weight of his emotions and physical exhaustion of the day. Still, there is a determined princess cuddled up infront of him with furrowed brows and a sad look on her face that simply cannot wait until morning.
"We do not choose who we love in this lifetime. I didn't choose to fall inlove with my best friend the same way Geralt didn't choose to not reciprocate those feelings. Which is okay, because-...because my love for your father isn't one that seeks a reply. It simple is." Ciri recalls her memories.
Memories from Geralt and her in the woods, running and overwhelmed and terrified. She remembers Geralt telling her stories of his best friend- an obnoxious bard that told the best stories even though they weren't entirely true. The look of guilt and sadness and longing her father suprise had when he told her about him. The few tears she saw him shed behind a crack in the door the night he finally gathered up the courage to apologize to Jaskier for everything. She had never seen him so devastated.
The grin he didn't even bother to hide when Jaskier had offhandedly called him darling when he asked for the salt.
"But what if there is a reply? What if he does love you?" Jaskier shakes his head, looking down to his lap.
We could head to the coast...
Get away for a while...
Composing your next song?
No...No, just trying to work out what pleases me...
Jaskier bears his heart to Geralt on that mountain top. He doesn't breathe, doesn't dare look away. He waits and hopes and gods above, he loves so hard it hurts. Maybe just this once, he'll be enough. Maybe they could run away from this, from everything just for a year. Maybe-
Geralt stands and leaves. Jaskier turns and sees him disappear in Yennefer's tent.
"Darling, that's impossible." He smiles sadly, playing with her fingers. The memory of then mountain and all other instances of him and Geralt replay like an old song. He knew the melody and each lyric by heart by now.
"But Jaskier I've-" Ciri startles when Jaskier’s hand claps with hers loudly and suddenly. Her palm barely stings but she gets the hint to stop talking.
"I have his friendship. I have a-a family apparently, in you and Yen. That is...more than I ever dreamed of having. You all are more than enough for me." Ciri regards him for a moment, staring at him like she's reading his soul. Whatever she sees seems to satisfy- atleast for now, because she sighs and lays a head on his shoulder.
"You too." He leans back, cheek brushing her temple as they stare at the flames of the fireplace.
"Thank you." He pretends to believe her.

nsft, lots of murderous thoughts, they were roommates, Jaskier being weird af, unconventional sugar baby Geralt but he hates Jaskier XD, Jaskier thinks Geralt is neat (holds up potatoes)
"Your existence haunts me."
3am on a Monday morning after a 36 hour shift at the hospital and Geralt is in all honesty contemplating to murder his roommate. It would take him all but a few calls to get rid of the body and he's pretty sure he'd do the world a favor by having Jaskier fucking Pankratz vanish from its service.
The eccentric young man that somehow wormed his way into Geralt's apartment and part of his life, hasn't been home all week, just for him to reappear at the worst time possible. At 3am. After a 36 hour shift.
Jaskier is on the toilet of all things, looking like he's been fucked throughout the whole week without a proper break or a shower that lasted longer than five minutes. He is wearing nothing but a glittery pink crop top with the word 'Daddy' badazzled on it and a tiny puke green top hat hair clip that looks like it was bought for 2006's Sylvester party. Geralt desperately wants to believe that it's not the same clothes Jaskier has left the house in, but knowing the billionaire everything is possible.
With no shame whatsoever Jaskier smiles at him like he's the sun, before taking a long sip from his bubble tea. It's fucking disgusting and Geralt wants nothing more than to kick it out of his hands and Jaskier out of his life.
"Geralt, love of my life! How are you? How was work? Did you save lots of lives today?"
"I despise the fact that you still breathe."
And that. That's the worst thing about it. Geralt can't remember saying a single nice thing to Jaskier and yet the other man is somehow infatuated with him. The younger one pouts at him, takes another long sips of his bubble tea and chews on the pearls. Before meeting Jaskier, Geralt would have never imagined anyone ever sitting on the toilet drinking, or eating for that matter. Jaskier is all kinds of fucked up while being completely unaware of it and Geralt suffers.
He wakes up every day knowing that this is his life now. That there's no way past puke green top hats and badazzled crop tops for him anymore. As much as he hates it, as much as he fantasies about burying Jaskier's cold body on a nice spring morning in the mountains, this is his life. And it's his own damn fault.
"Did you just come back from the hospital? I got here like 20 minutes ago. Good that you weren't here then, I would have definitely woken you up, bursting through the door while the tacos were bursting through me."
Geralt feels like he's about to cry. This is the man he owes his life to. This fucking disaster of a human being is the reason he's still walking around freely, his reputation unblemished and his family still alive. Needless to say he has spent many sleepless nights screaming into his pillow while cursing every single deity he can think of.
"Please go back to the hell hole you crawled out of."
Why is he even having this conversation? Why is he still standing in the doorway of the bathroom instead of just using the other one before crying himself to sleep? It has to be the lack of sleep, the terrible working hours, his growing insanity that keeps him from just leaving the conversation. Instead he bangs his head against the door frame, apologizing to the last of his braincells as Jaskier wipes his ass and flushes the toilet. Geralt doesn't look, because fuck no, he'd rather die, when Jaskier walks towards the shower, naked from his ribs down. As he pulls the hair clip out of his brown locks and rids himself of the ridiculously tiny crop top, Geralt wonders if a life in prison would have been the more merciful decision.
"Are you just going to stand there looking pretty, or are you going to join me, Ger-bear?"
"Absolutely not. You look like a walking STD."
"Don't be ridiculous, sweetheart. I was at Valdo's all week and barely got to leave the house until last night."
Geralt grunts, too tired to think of another sentence that describes how much he wants Jaskier to slip on a bar of soap and break his hip in the shower. He has admittedly no idea what Jaskier does when he's with Valdo Marx but he knows that the man is happily married and has never looked at Jaskier twice. Why the billionaire still looks as fucked out as he does, Geralt can't explain.
"I'll go drown myself," he says instead as he collects his towel and bathrobe from their hooks. The blow dryer should still be in the other bathroom with the tub, where he left it.
Jaskier is already under the spray of the shower head, so when he speaks the volume of his voice gets muffled by the falling water.
"I got you that new conditioner you saw the other day, it should be somewhere near the hypoallergenic bath bombs that go well with your skin."
Geralt hums in good humor, knowing that Jaskier can't hear him. The other man has long since made it a habit to buy everything Geralt might possibly want or need. And while a lot of the presents he gets are absolutely ridiculous, he doesn't say no to some of the fancier, horribly expensive, hair products Jaskier buys him. Of the very few things he can stand about himself, his hair might be on top of the list. Mostly because Eskel loved it.
More often than not he wonders what his family might think of him if they were able to see him living like this. He's glad they can't. Very, very much so. Still he wonders. Would they tell him to leave Jaskier the moment they meet him? Would he? Leaving Jaskier's grasp would mean leaving his realm of protection. The fucked up world in which a man that wears a puke green top hat hair clip has more power than a king.
Furthermore it would mean leaving behind the hospital, his friends and colleagues, the life he build himself around Jaskier's antics. He's not sure if he wants to let go of that just yet. Or ever, if Geralt is honest with himself.
As much as he is disgusted by 70% of the man's existence, there is another 30% left to complete the math. Those stupid 30% that are Jaskier being nice, quiet, attentive, charming and overall overwhelmingly good. Jaskier who let him live at his apartment rent free when he had nothing, Jaskier who bought him everything he could ever need and still showers him with presents almost every week. Jaskier who listened to whatever little part of his life he told him about, Jaskier who knew all of his colleagues by name, who had picked him up multiple times from the hospital when he was too exhausted to get home by himself, Jaskier who-
"I should have brought the toaster with me."
For some reason the younger man has decided to follow Geralt into the other bathroom and is now sitting on the ground, legs crossed, not dressed, dripping a puddle onto the tiles. He is staring at Geralt through his huge blue eyes and shoveling chips into his mouth like it's a normal thing to do on a Monday morning at 3.30.

By the time Jaskier got home, he managed to calm down a little bit. Well, he wasn't ready to commit gruesome murder anymore, but his brain was still ticking like a bomb just imagining Valdo Marx's smug grin. Why was this happening to him? What has he done to deserve this? It must have been a cruel, sick play of fate that Sara's mother happened to be best friends with the manager of Valdo's annoying theater band. Jaskier would have to sit down with her and beg her to pick someone else- surely there were other bands that wouldn't ask for millions just to play at a small wedding!
Worst case scenario, he would ask Priscilla and Essi to back him up and play some Sandpipers songs. Amaryllis specifically asked him not to play, because she wanted Jaskier there as a father, not as an employee, but desperate times called for dramatic measures. Either way, Jaskier needed to figure out a way to get rid of his rival before he ruined his beloved baby's big day.
The inn was bustling with guests at this time of the year. Each of them greeted Jaskier happily when he walked through the door. It made Jaskier smile. He had many guests who returned each year, and he saw new faces as well all the time. It was a small business, but people loved the Dandelion Inn, and its owner. Jaskier just wished the costs of holding up a place like that would be cheaper. He's been struggling with paying the bills on time lately, and since the inn was a mostly seasonal business, he had trouble scraping enough money together in the quieter months. But Jaskier promised Auntie he wouldn't let the inn fall apart, no matter what happened.
"Have you seen Amaryllis today?" Jaskier asked Angela, his receptionist. She was a sweet old lady who was hired by Auntie, and Jaskier refused to kick her out, even though she worked slowly and kept mixing up the room numbers. In fact, Jaskier refused to fire anyone from the old staff. There weren't many job opportunities on the island, and even though Jaskier struggled with the costs of keeping all the staff, he didn't want to put them out on the street.
"She had to go to the library, emergency call," Angela explained, not even looking up from her magazine. Jaskier raised an eyebrow.
"Emergency? In a library?"
"The pipes started leaking and she was called in for emergency inventory. But before that, she dropped off a girl here and said something about the goat shed, but I couldn't hear her, you know my ear isn't that good anymore, dear."
"Okay," Jaskier concluded with a sigh. "Wait, what girl? Sara?"
"No, not Sara! I would recognize her! No, it's that one, sitting at that table!"
Jaskier turned to where Angela pointed. A teenage girl with ashen blonde hair was sitting at a table in the lobby, doodling in the guest book. Jaskier didn't recognize her as one of the guests, but with his head being all over the place lately, it was entirely possible he just forgot he's seen her before.
The girl looked up from the guest book and caught Jaskier staring. She grinned and waved at him. Jaskier waved back with a smile. Yeah, must have been one of the guests. He needed to keep better track of these things.
Amaryllis did help him out at the inn when she could, but she had a job at the library and couldn't always be there. Which was a shame, because her memory was much better than Jaskier's. Unfortunately, Jaskier was getting old, he needed to accept it.
"Did Amaryllis say if she fed the goats?" He asked Angela. She didn't react.
"Angela!"
"What was that, dear? You know my hearing isn't great!"
"The goats," Jaskier said louder, articulating each word, "did Amaryllis feed them?"
"I don't know, I don't think so."
Jaskier sighed, slumping against the reception desk. "Great. I'll have to deal with those stinky beasts again."
Another thing Auntie entrusted him with before she died was taking care of her herd of goats. As much as Jaskier loved his aunt, he did curse her sometimes for leaving those animals in his care. He inherited the whole place: not just the inn, but the small flat connected to it where he now lived, and that godforsaken goat shed in the yard.
Jaskier was pretty sure those goats had a personal agenda against him. They were so sweet with the guests, patiently letting small children pet them. They even posed for photos. And they absolutely adored Amaryllis, who, for some reason Jaskier couldn't comprehend, loved those monsters back. Jaskier still remembered the headache when his five years old daughter toddled inside the house with a baby goat in her arms and asked Jaskier if the goat could sleep in her bed. When Jaskier said no, Amaryllis managed to smuggle it in anyway, causing Jaskier a near heart attack when he pulled back the covers one day, and found a goat in the bed instead of his child.
Despite their otherwise sweet behavior, the goats acted completely feral around Jaskier. They bit him and knocked him over constantly, and Jaskier was sure his eardrums would give in one day with how loud they kept screaming. Maybe they sensed he wasn't exactly fond of them. All the same, they were a necessary evil that came with his inheritance.
He changed his clothes quickly, because he was sure his pretty floral shirt would be ripped apart by the goats. He changed it to a simple white shirt and a pair of comfortable shorts before he grabbed a bucket, cursing under his breath all the way to the shed.
"First Valdo Marx, then these fucking goats," Jaskier huffed, "what's next? The aliens will come to abduct me? Fuck's sake. Emergency inventory, my god. As if they don't have several copies of War and Peace. No, let's save the books, it's all fine, who cares that I will be murdered by these monsters?"
He came to a halt before the shed, taking several deep breaths. Alright, he needed to calm down a little bit. He experienced too much stress lately with the wedding planning. Deep breaths, positive thoughts, he told himself. Everything was gonna be okay.
He opened the door and slipped inside the shed, holding the bucket out in front of him like a shield. Just like that, one of the goats, an old, black one that Jaskier was convinced was Satan himself in disguise, knocked into it, sending vegetables flying.
"Asshole," Jaskier huffed, entangling the goat's horns that got twisted in the handle of the bucket. "I brought you lunch, and that's how you thank me!?"
He heard something stir in the corner. One of the baby goats kept sniffing at a large haystack, craning its neck to look behind it. It started stomping on the floor with its hooves, the sound not helping Jaskier's impending headache.
"The hell are you doing there...?"
Jaskier's face went pale when he noticed something that looked like a human leg, pulling back behind the haystack. The blood ran cold in his veins. Someone was in his shed.
"Amaryllis?" He tried. No response came. Jaskier's heart pounded like a hammer inside his chest. He slowly approached the haystack, the hairs on his arms standing on end. When he said he was gonna be abducted, he meant it as a joke!
"Who's there?" Jaskier called again, trying to will his voice not to tremble. "I have a metal bucket in my hands, it hits hard! And I have pepper spray in my pocket! And a rape whistle! I would reveal myself if I were you before it was too late, because I'm... I'm feral!"
A hand emerged from behind the haystack, palm up, as if signaling they came with peace. Jaskier still held onto the bucket, just in case.
The rest of the stranger's body was revealed. Jaskier's eyes widened, and his mouth fell agape. He wobbled on his feet, white noise filling his head. His vision started to swim as amber eyes looked into his own. Familiar white hair, with a few pieces of hay stuck into it. A painfully sharp jawline, now covered with a beard. A tall, broad built, that didn't seem to change all that much since Jaskier last saw him. And he still wore black, from head to toe.
Before Jaskier had a chance to say or do anything, another figure emerged from behind the hay. Jaskier's jaw somehow dropped even lower as he spotted that reddish-blond hair, and those always inquiring blue eyes. Sharp features with thicker stubble than last time. That lean body, clad in expensive clothes. That careful little smile.
Jaskier dropped the bucket, the sound like a gunshot when the third figure came in sight. Black hair, not reaching the middle of her back anymore, just falling past her shoulders. Intense violet eyes. Plump lips, a little chapped. Warm skin and a black dress that hugged her still perfect body.
They all changed here and there, but they mostly looked the same. There was no mistaking them for anyone else. Now, Jaskier only had one question.
"What in the fucking fuck of a fucking hell you all are doing here!?"
"Jaskier," Radovid spoke first, his voice dripping with fake confidence, even though his eyes looked alarmed at Jaskier's outburst. "It's so good to see you, again."
"What are you doing in my goat shed," Jaskier wasn't proud of the way his voice came out as a whimper. But, excuse his French, he was shocked as all hell. Three figures from his past, three people he's romanced literal decades ago, the three people in the sea of his one-night stands that left the biggest mark on him, now stood in front of him. He blinked several times, but the vision didn't pass. They remained standing there, confused, as if they weren't the ones who showed up here for no reason.
"That's a long story," Yennefer sighed. She wrapped her arms around herself as she blinked up at Jaskier. "Shit, it's been a while. I don't know what I'm supposed to say."
"Me neither," Geralt chimed in. He gave Jaskier a small, uncertain smile. Jaskier did his best to ignore the feeling it gave him. "You look..."
"No, no, you're not getting out of this without an explanation," Jaskier scoffed. He put his hands on his hips, glaring at them with all the anger he could muster. "Why are you even on the island? What do you want?"
"What do you mean," Radovid chuckled, a little bitterly, "what do we want? Is this a joke?"
"If it is, it's not funny," Yennefer scoffed. She gently pushed a baby goat away that tried to chew on her dress. "We didn't travel hours on a fucking ferry for you to pretend like you don't know why we're here."
"What!?" Jaskier could feel himself getting hysterical. "What kind of sick prank is this? Which one of you came up with this? How do you even know each other!?"
"Jaskier, we came as quickly as we could," Geralt said. "We dropped everything at home just to come here. It's been... a very weird and exhausting couple of hours. Would you tell us what's going on?"
"Me? You tell me what's going on! I haven't seen your faces in twenty years, and now you suddenly pop up in my freaking goat shed!? And I'm the one who owes YOU an explanation!?"
"You were the one who wrote to us!" Radovid said, pointing a finger at Jaskier and making him raise an eyebrow.
"I beg your pardon?"
"You sent us all an ominous letter, about some life and death situation and how we needed to come see you in person," Yennefer explained. "And that we should pack enough clothes for a few weeks. You promised you would be at the dock, but it was actually your..."
"Wait, wait, wait, wait," Jaskier interrupted her, holding his hands up. He looked over all of them, his confusion growing with each passing second. "Hold your goddamn horses. I did not write you a letter. I didn't write a letter to anyone, let alone the three of you."
"Okay, then what is this?" Geralt asked, reaching into his pocket. He handed Jaskier a crumpled piece of paper. Jaskier skimmed it. The lines blurred together in front of his eyes as he realized what happened.
"That's not my handwriting," he whispered to mostly himself, "that's Amaryllis's."
Oh, holy sweet cow. It all started to make sense. Amaryllis asking about her other parent. Her expressing the need to find out who it is, so they could be there at her wedding. His diary mysteriously switching places in his drawer. He did not misplace that diary. Amaryllis must've taken it out and read it. And she was a smart girl, and a very determined one, as well... if she read it all, if she read about Jaskier's affairs, she put the pieces together - the pieces that Jaskier never dared to.
He nearly collapsed. He only managed to stay on his feet because Geralt caught him around the waist, holding him up.
"You okay?" He asked, his eyes full of concern. The other two moved closer, hovering at his side anxiously. He was surrounded by them in his anguish. It triggered an old dream, a wish he had made a long time ago. Memories flooded his brain, memories of the most intense pain he has ever felt in his life. Pathetically sobbing for someone to come and hold him - Geralt, Radovid, Yennefer, someone, please. I can't do this alone. I wish you were here and held my hand. Auntie, why did you have to leave me so soon? Hell, Mum, I hate you for what you did to me, but I would settle for even you. I just don't wanna give birth alone, don't wanna raise this baby alone, I'm scared, I can't do this...
"My daughter wrote to you," Jaskier whispered. He tore himself away from them, stumbling on his feet. "She pretended to be me to lure you here."
"Fuck," Yennefer whispered, "we've met her."
Jaskier snorted. "You did, huh? I guess she was the one waiting on the docks, then."
"Indeed," Radovid sighed. "She said something about how we should get to know each other better before her wedding, and that one of us should be there for some reason. Then, she practically shoved us back in our cars and told us to drive here. She made us hide out here and she promised she would explain everything, but she got a phone call and left."
"This isn't real," Jaskier laughed hysterically, shaking his head. "This is a nightmare. No, actually, I think I'm dead. And now I'm in hell. Oh, I might be burning soon!"
"Why did Amaryllis write to us?" Geralt asked. "And why does she want us to be there at her wedding?"
"Oh, that's gonna be great. Just absolutely gorgeous. I'm going to strangle her."
"Jaskier," Yennefer hissed, "would you calm down and tell us what's going on!?"
"So, none of you have a hunch," Jaskier snorted. He sighed deeply at their confused stares. "Well, I assume you all realized I've gotten to know each of you pretty well in the past."
"Yeah, we got that," Radovid huffed. Jaskier ignored the emotion the sheer jealousy in his voice evoked in him.
"Well. I have a suggestion why Amaryllis picked you three out of my past affairs, specifically."
Geralt sent him a confused look. "Why?"
"I assume it's because she read my diary, where I wrote about you. And the entries were dated. And well, she might have done a little bit of Math. Which wasn't difficult, considering I'm unmated, so no known daddy or mommy disrupting this lovely picture."
Recognition soon started seeping into their eyes. Their faces turned pale simultaneously.
"When was Amaryllis born?" Radovid asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Jaskier rubbed at his temples, feeling his headache increase.
"May 2003. You're good at Math, aren't you?"
"Now I wish I wasn't," Radovid groaned. Yennefer's eyes widened.
"You're implying that one of us...?"
Geralt swore under his breath. Jaskier imagined the goat shed collapsing over them. He wished it would happen.
"That one of you is Amaryllis's other parent, yes. And she clearly figured that out, too. Congratulations to someone here, I guess."
The silence was deafening except for the goats bleating in the background. Jaskier's three ex lovers stood still as statues, none of them daring to say anything. Jaskier felt a tear run down his face, but he felt too exhausted to wipe it off.
He struggled so hard to forget about them, to erase their smiles, their voices from his mind. To stop remembering their warmth, the feeling of their arms around him. The thought of seeking them out was constantly on the back of his mind after he found out he was pregnant. He knew their address, but he also knew that he didn't mean anything to either of them, not the way they meant to him. They had other things to take care of, and Jaskier wasn't one of them. Would they have even come back, if they found out Jaskier was pregnant? Would they have cared at all? Geralt, with his insistence that he couldn't give Jaskier what he wanted anyway, Radovid with that giant company, and Yennefer who had better hopes than tying herself down on a tiny island - they wouldn't have come back for him, no way.
Why they were here now, Jaskier didn't understand. Why now, after so many years? How come they didn't forget about him? Why were they standing here, staring at him in confusion, after twenty years, just because of a stupid letter?
Maybe it was because they actually... no, he couldn't allow himself to go there. They didn't love him. Not like that. This was all just a giant misunderstanding.
Jaskier felt like he was going to get sick. This was just too much.
He faintly heard them calling his name as he stormed out of the shed, but he didn't turn around.

I don’t want it to, I don’t know, eat my liver or something?” Geralt massages at his temple. “Very few monsters are that picky. Jaskier liked people, but he also didn’t like people, and now he was on his way to a house party where there were very definitely going to be a lot of people. Most of which he didn’t know. Ugh. University was a stressful place. *** Modern everyone-is-human AU where Jaskier and Geralt meet at a uni house party and bond over D&D. Inspired by The Amazing Devil's Drinking Song for the Socially Anxious.
all roads lead to tranquility base by seasofglass | 4k | T
Jaskier needs some promotional photos for the launch of his new album, but as much as he loves composing new music, posing for the camera makes him a nervous wreck. On top of all, he's saddled with an unconventional photographer who claims he'll be able to show Jaskier a new side of himself. Navigating his feelings of anxiety and attraction, Jaskier remains skeptical that the photographer can deliver on his promises.
Sweet as Chocolate by @xianvar | 6k | T
“I don’t think that’ll be your next hit,” blue-haired-regular says apologetically. Jaskier is coming up with a witty reply – he really is – when he notices the figure in the back corner, seated underneath the broken lamp Valdo has been “about to fix” for weeks now. White hair, a scar over his right eye, uncomfortable gaze fixed on a large cup of coffee – it must be chocolate-voice, and Jaskier is ready to bet his favourite guitar on that. He’s even more swoon-worthy than his imagination has made him out to be. Jaskier temporarily forgets all his words, to the point that he only nods agreeably when Valdo says, “Fuck it, make yourself useful if you’re done; I’m gonna go take a leak.” Jaskier enjoys his lot in life – he has friends, a job that he loves, and all the opportunities to flirt that he could ever want. Until a gorgeous white-haired man starts frequenting Jaskier’s little bakery-slash-café and turns his whole world upside down.
hold my hand, show me something sweet by ghostiewritesthings | 7k | T
“You alright?” The other man groaned, bringing his hands up to cover his face. He screamed into his palms for almost a full minute, and Geralt let him, waiting patiently to the side. He’s been there. Eventually, the stranger stopped and took a deep breath. He left his hands over his face. “Never been better.”

#2 for the pining prompt, any pairing you like!
Thank you!
2. Quickly sewing back the loose button of their shirt that came off at the last minute, realising that you two are extremely close.
I'm going with Valdo Marx/Jaskier for this one (@flosimo @d-andilion you might be interested?)
"You look ridiculous," Jaskier said as he tugged on the open collar of his rival's shirt - his rival, who for now unfortunately was supposed to be his duet partner. Damn the Duchess and the vagueness of her request that Jaskier should play a set with an up and coming flutist. And damn Jaskier's lack of foresight. Of course this mystery flutist turned out to be Valdo Marx. It was just Jaskier's luck.
Marx batted his hands away and straightened his collar, attempting and failing to conceal the empty space where a button had just popped off. It only made it stand out more.
"Stop that," he hissed, disgruntled. "It's not my fault the Duchess gave me this doublet without asking for my measurements first."
Jaskier opened his mouth to make a quip about Valdo's measurements, but no sound left his lips. Unvoluntarily, his eyes drifted from Valdo's face to his exposed collar bone and then lower. Valdo had filled out nicely since they had last seen each other. He looked softer than he had back then. Healthier. Like being held by him would feel lovely. Clearly, life at court had treated Valdo kindly. Jaskier still remembered how haggard he had been back at the academy, unable to eat more than strictly necessary, whenever he got stressed. Valdo must have spent these past years with a mind resting at ease at the prospect of a secure future.
Without wanting to, Jaskier wondered what it would be like, if he just stayed here at this court with Valdo. If he too would find security and happiness in this life.
Happiness looked good on Valdo. As did the open collar.
Jaskier cleared his throat and closed the space between them again.
"I will very much not stop it," he shot back belatedly. "I refuse to perform with someone looking so… so…" beautiful, his treacherous mind supplied and his heart stumbled, "disheveled. Scandalous. You look like you just stumbled out of someone's bed."
Alright, it was just about time that Jaskier stopped rambling before he lost all control over his words. Even more importantly, he had to put a stop to his thoughts that were running wild, imagining what Valdo would be like being with Valdo now. If it would resemble the tension filled trysts of their youth or if it would be something softer.
He frowned, when Valdo snorted.
"You'd know about looking scandalous," Valdo said. "Your collar is opened wider than mine."
"Yes, but for me it's a choice." Jaskier narrowed his eyes at the buttonhole. Then he let go of Valdo's collar and turned towards his packs. "I can't have you looking like that. It would distract from me."
Behind him, Valdo muttered something that Jaskier couldn't understand. Years ago, Jaskier would have assumed it was some cutting remark about his looks or a taunt about his out of tune singing being distracting enough, but Valdo's voice lacked any bite.
Finally finding the thread and needle Jaskier had been looking for, he turned back.
"What -" Valdo began and took a step away from Jaskier, who strode forward with a needle at the ready and a determined frown on his brow. Valdo broke off, when Jaskier grabbed his collar once more. "Oh."
Valdo stiffened, standing still as a marble statue, as Jaskier began to sow the button back on.
From this close, Jaskier could see his throat bobbing nervously.
"You - have learned some useful skills out there after all," Valdo said, clearly attempting to give his voice the sneer of a backhanded compliment, but it fell flat. After a pause, he added more quietly, "Thank you."
"Don't mention it," Jaskier said. Because if Valdo thanked him again or kept using that soft tone on him, Jaskier would not be able to get his heart back under control in time for their performance. He could not afford messing up in front of the Duchess. And as much as he wad loathe to admit it, he liked the idea of failing in front of Valdo even less.
He smoothed over Valdo's collar, letting his touch linger a little more than necessary. The embroidery of the fabric felt pleasant beneath his fingertips, but he itched to pull it aside and run his hands over the smooth chest beneath instead.
Tearing his eyes away, he looked up - and straight at Valdo's lips.
Had he been this close the entire time?
"Jaskier…"
Valdo's tongue darted out to wet his lips. Jaskier couldn't tear his eyes away. He felt himself drifting closer, closer -
With a bang, the door flew open and the two bards flew apart. With a frantically beating heart, Jaskier looked to the door, where a page gave them a decidedly unimpressed look.
"My lady sent me to fetch you," she said. "Your performance is supposed to start any minute."
"Of course," Valdo said smoothly. Jaskier simply nodded his assent, not trusting his voice to come out even have as controlled.
He stole a glance at Valdo, who's cheeks were dusted with red.
"Shall we?" Valdo asked and held his hand out for Jaskier, who stared at it. "Time for you to show me what else you learned in the time we were apart."
"Oh I learned some interesting things, alright," Jaskier said with a suggestive smirk.
As he placed his hand in his duet partner's outstretched hand, he thought to himself, most importantly I learned that I might have been wrong about you after all.

It's a pleasant night. His belly is full, his feet throbs after dancing all over the tavern like he was the eighteen-year-old bard he used to be. He's no longer that foolish child, not after everything. The only thing, the only one, who remains from the eighteen-year-old Jaskier is Geralt. Jaskier smiles at the thought.
Speaking of certain witcher, he's sitting on the chair by the window, the light from the fire coloring his side with an auspicious orange hue. He’s so handsome.
It's been a while since the last time he traveled with Geralt, quite a while since the last time they were traveling to a big town. Oxenfurt specifically. Valdo Marx shited in his pants when the results were published, Jaskier imagines.
"I hope he'd be there!
"The lyrics are not exactly true" says Geralt in the background, Jaskier ignores him.
"Oh oh oh I want to see his face when he sees you there"
“Jaskier” Geralt calls
"Take that mister 'i'm better than you' "
“Jaskier” Geralt calls
"Yes, darling?" Jaskier responds with affectionate exasperation. He's having a big monologue here and that's the moment Geralt decides he wants to add to the conversation. He's been quiet lately.
"I'm not going" Jaskier feels a cold blow on the center of his chest. His heart hunching on itself at registering those words. He understands perfectly well what he witcher means but decides to play dumb anyway.
"I can't"
"Alright..." Geralt hates being prompt to talk when the conversation is tense, but Jaskier can help it, doesn't want to.
"I'm sorry" at least here the witcher looks remorseful.
"No, no, Geralt. You promised!"
I'm sorry, Jaskier, plans have changed..." Jaskier takes two steps forward and Geralt stands raising his hands in a placating manner.
"What has changed...?" And then Jaskier remembers, the black speck against the window in the middle of the night a week ago. "Does this have something to do with that raven" Geralt growls, sometimes he forgets this bard used to be a Redanian spy. “Is it because of Yennefer?”
"I'm sorry" Geralt nods, giving the truth. "Is important"
"This is important to!"
And now the bard is shouting at Geralt, he hates doing that, but the witcher is not helping either.
“It’s an award, you have plenty”
“It’s NOT an award, is THE award”
They are standing in front of the other, speaking at the other in the face, up this close Jaskier can see the pattern of tiny scars all over Geralt's face. "She didn't tell, she said It's important" Geralt said followed by a heavy sigh indicating that he thought Jaskier was being childish.
"This is important to me, Geralt - "
" - I know..."
" I asked you to come last year, remember? I told you that I might win the award and you promised you’ll come! I know you don't like big cities but..."
“-It's not that. She needs me” I need you too. "Last time I spoke to her she told me that if she needed my help she'll send a raven."
And that's it. Jaskier can feel his heart turning into dust and falling heavily to the pit of his stomach. It's not the same as the mountain, but it feels similar in a way. Jaskier is realizing just how much he means to Geralt. Again. Jaskier holds Geralt's eyes from below, at least the witcher have the decency to look remorseful.
"I know I promised, i'm sorry that I can't keep my word. But this is important" More important, Jaskier reads between lines.
And then after a long, resigned sigh the bard murmurs "Whatever" It keeps happening, repeatedly, suddenly and inexplicably he keeps getting hurt by his own naivety by thinking that someday Geralt would choose him, not over Yennefer, Ciri or the other witchers. Just choose him because he wants to. Because it's fair, because Jaskier wants to be choose.
He likes Yennefer now, he even caughts himself sometimes thinking of her with love. The kind of love you have for the one that makes your true love happy. But he also knows that she can fend for herself and that is possible for Geralt to wait at least a day before responding to her siren song. She gets to have him forever, why does Jaskier can't have him only for a fucking day? And now he's being pitiful, and he hates himself a little bit for that.
Maybe he's overreacting, maybe it's not that important… but it is! he wanted Geralt to be there, to share the award with him. But at the end it's not Geralt's fault, he'll not resent the witcher for having priorities, a family to take care which includes Yennefer and the others but not him. Maybe it's time for Jaskier to find his own. He has already spent enough effort in becoming part of Geralt. Jaskier goes to search on his bag for his notebook, he needs to rework on his acceptance speech.
"I'll gather we'll be parting ways at the crossroads tomorrow?" Jaskier turns around briefly, wanting to see the witcher’s expression, to be suddenly confronted with an uncomfortable and unexpected feeling at reading on Geralt's face a lot more than surely the witcher wants to convey. Shame, uncertainty, fear of not knowing what went wrong and how to prevent it from getting worse. And Jaskier feels sympathy, despite everything that has happened, what is happening, Geralt tries, on his own, albeit slow way.
"Yeah"
"Good"
Geralt starts fidgeting on the same spot from before, when Jaskier decides he had enough and turns. The witcher hasn't moved an inch, he's waiting for the other shoe to drop, the bard can tell. But it won’t come to that. Not anymore. Enough of this, enough of scraps.
"I'm going out, don't wait for me awake" murmurs Jaskier when he's at the door. Geralt calls for him, but Jaskier pretends not to hear.

 _________________
In the morning Geralt arrives at the stables to find Jaskier already waiting for him by Roach. They travel side by side all morning, Jaskier holding his notebook in front of his face, he seems to be reading and rereading the speech, which is weird because he said he's already memorized it. They haven't spoken much, and Geralt hates it. He should be saying something, anything! Something along the lines of "I'll go with you" but what if Yen...?
Jaskier stops and turns around to face him from below, one hand scratching Roach's neck. They are at the crossroads; it's almost noon and Geralt doesn't know what to say. Their gazes lock for a long time, the wind singing softly around them, the leaves of the trees falling like orange rain. It's so calm. "Take care, Geralt" says Jaskier in the softest of voices and turns right. Geralt watches him marching away, wondering why it feels like a goodbye.

1) How many works do you have on AO3?
123... somehow... oh wait i know how its bc i did whumptober
2) What's your total AO3 word count?
392,687
3) What fandoms do you write for?
Currently: The Untamed/MDZS, Nirvana in Fire, A League of Nobleman, The Blood of Youth [screaming, crying, trying please i need more people to write tBoY fic my crops are dying], The Disguiser [sometimes]. I'm also working on a few ideas for Mysterious Lotus Casebook which I finished last week
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
So these are all from back when I was actually writing the most popular pairing for a popular fandom, as opposed to now where I'm either writing the Rarest of rare-pairs or for fandoms that have <100 english fics so:
Yellow Petals - The Witcher, Geraskier, hanahaki
I Would Know Him In Death (At The End of the World) - Les Mis, E/R, les amis are reincarnated greek heroes
Butter-cup of Tea - The Witcher, Geraskier, round robin me and @nemainofthewater wrote together that I'm sure had a plot
as I reckon with the effects of your life on mine - The Witcher, Jaskier & Valdo Marx, another one by me and Nemain where I wrote Jaskier's letters and Nemain wrote Valdo Marx's
Know the Water's Sweet but Blood is Thicker - The Witcher, Jaskier is Calanthe's brother, yikes I never finished that one oops
5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to (sometimes I forget though lol)! It feels nice to have some kind of interactions with other fans, plus that's how I made friends with @wishthefish so there's always a risk chance of getting to know people ;P
6) What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
hahhaahahahahahahaahahahhah
ummmm all of them?
it's probably 'You left me here behind, do you not care?' which has very little room for any hope at all come the end
7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
this is actually harder than the angst one, somehow. like happy? are any of truly happy??
I'm restricting it to things I wrote this year and I'm going to say As we walk with the sun hand in hand from the wreck, which is the 'happy ending' stem of the Xuyao choose your own adventure thing I was working on this year
8) Do you get hate on fics?
I did once, but it was for a fandom I was already over in a work I wasn't like 100% sold on anyway and I found it kind of funny
9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No but as I put in a group chat the other day "every day i inch closer to writing porn and i am not happy about it".
To be fair I don't think I'll ever write full-blown smut, and generally I find that, for what I'm writing at least, having things left implied is better bc then people can imagine whatever they want (and I don't have to write it)
10) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I do in fact have a NiF/Untamed bodyswap crossover in my docs which I either need to write more of or decide that I'm not going to write any more of and just post as is
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! There's a French translation of I Would Know Him in Death (At the End of the World)!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have several co-written fic with @nemainofthewater - we share a braincell so it's always a lot of fun
14) What's your all-time favorite ship?
See that's a. that's a question that I'm finding WAY harder to answer than it should be.
Probably E/R (Enjolras/Grantaire) from Les Miserables. Like R is still my tumblr/ao3 picture (and my phone home screen), I might now actually be in the fandom so much any more but forever in my heart etc
15) What's a wip that you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Oh man I just went on my posted works on ao3 and I have a les mis fencing au that I last updated in 2020. That's never going to to happen
16) What are your writing strenghts?
Lets see how much angst I can fit in a very small amount of words 😈
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
I struggle finishing anything longer than about 2k which is a pain bc I have lots of ideas that deserve a lot more words than I can focus on writing for them
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
It's cool when people do it (especially if they have hover-ovre translations)! I haven't ever tried and am unlikely to any time soon
19) First fandom you wrote for?
Turn! (actually the first fandom I wrote for was Hamilton but that never saw the light of day and NEVER WILL)
I'm going to tag @nemainofthewater @luzzeagain @woobifiedvillain and anyone else who feels like it!

Like to think that Dandelion's hatred for Valdo is because of an academic disagreement compounded by them having been detested roommates during their tenor as students in Oxenfurt. Imagine having to room with a guy you hate who drives you absolutely mad and also fiercely disagrees with every academic argument or viewpoint you have. It's like when you read about ye olde scholars getting into literal fist fights over how to properly translate a text or something. It's just funnier to imagine that Dandelion and Valdo once got into such a violent altercation about the correct interpretation of a purposefully vague poem that they've wished death on the other ever since
