Hello everyone ^^
This is Wakayama castle.
It’s not crowded in here and near Osaka.
White castle is beautiful and nature makes you feel peaceful ❤️
So if you have enough time let’s think about to visit to here.
Wakayama prefecture is Kansai area and this castle is very close to Kansai airport.
Kansai airport station - Izumisano station - Wakayamashi station.
You need to change train at Izumisano station then going toward Wakayama and get off at Wakayamashi station 😁

August 12, 2023: I went to Wakayama City to visit my family graves for Obon, visited Wakayama Castle and attended "Toin High School Reunion" for the first time after I graduated. I was thrilled to see many reunions for the first time in 45 years at a grand gathering attended by 130 classmates, and spent the night drinking and talking with my old friends in Wakayama.

What areas did Taishou and Sesshoumaru rule over?
Tumblr media
Unfortunately there is no official map that shows for what's owned in the series but there are some for real life!
The dog demon clan hailed from Saigoku. That's the "Western lands" of Japan. Kaede's Village is where Tokyo is to this day.
Ironically now for modern times there's something called the "Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage" they go through the 33 Buddhist temples on the Kansai region of Japan. Saigoku was really an old term that was also sometimes pronounced as "Saikoku" but today it is called "Kansai" ! "Saigoku" is Kansai (関西), the area of western Japan centering on Kyoto https://www.thetempleguy.org/p/saigoku-33-kannon-route.html Those areas are Hyogo, Kyoto, Shiga, Osaka, Nara and Wakayama
Tumblr media
www.travel-around-japan.com/k60-00-kansai-reg.html
Just to note there's a Mistranslation in the Viz media English version of the Yashahime manga that said Taishou came from China but it's actually Saigoku, which is Western lands of Japan it was even addressed on Takashi Shiina's Twitter page. Incase people were confused. https://twitter.com/Takashi_Shiina/status/1542931034517700608 一カ所、「西国」が「Ancient China(古代中国)」と訳されてたので、「これは<日本の西にある国>ではなく、<日本国の西地方>という意味です」と伝言をお願いしておいた。電子版では近日直してもらえるかも。 In one place, ``Saigoku'' was translated as ``Ancient China,'' so I sent a message saying, ``This does not mean ``the country to the west of Japan,'' but ``the western region of Japan.'' I asked for it. The digital version may be fixed soon.
You can see very good maps for history here:
https://timemaps.com/history/japan-1453ad/
For reference on what era you want to look at for InuYasha it's during the 1540s, this was mentioned in InuYasha wide edition #4
In Yashahime manga chapter 23 they're at Sakai. In feudal Japan Sakai is the center of commerce.
Taishou died in the Kamakura period within a castle in Kamakura city. That's 1185-1333 There's been many changes on the earth since those times as well as tsunamis and even seasonal cycles because of tilts. Japan has certainly shrunk over the years because these situations. We also know he's been alive since the Heian period 794-1185 because of how he uses the Dono honorific when talking to Zero and also within the timeline. Midoriko and the Jewel was created in the Heian period according to the InuYasha profiles book timeline.
Kirinmaru, Riku and Rion are from mainland China, yes. In fact Kirinmaru is based on the Qilin of myths and legends which originate from China which were first attested in 5th century BCE which ironically lines up with what Katsuyuki Sumisawas said in Animage May 2021 about him being alive since the era of myth and that he may have seen Buddha or Jesus Christ in the Flesh but not Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit.
There are some maps within the series, like Mount Hakurei, Horai Island from the fourth movie. Also the video game counterparts which were all supervised by Rumiko-sensei. - Admin

okay so it's about a week until I leave the country for over a month. I am dutifully filling up my queue so y'all will stay entertained while I am gone, but I should probably state for the record that I may not be easy to get ahold of while I'm gone. if you really want me to see something, send me a tumblr chat/ask so it'll show up in a separate inbox from my notifications.
I'll probably post about some travel stuff here, if I'm not too tired, but I suspect the lion's share will end up on twitter and especially instagram. if you would like to see travel posts, I am @iletaitunefois on twitter and @cookinguptales on IG.
if you do not want to see travel posts, please block '#the travel bug'.
I'm also gonna offer up postcards again. I'm not going to make any promises because I don't know how easy it'll be for me to find time/post offices everywhere I go in Japan -- and also because I may be cursed; I think like only half of my Christmas cards actually made their way to their destinations last year.
But! If you do want a postcard, send me a private message and I'll add you to my list. If you have any special requests (locations, nature, cityscapes, cute characters, whatever) lmk and I can see if I can make that work, but again, no promises. I usually keep track of nearby post offices in Japan because they're good places for foreigners to withdraw money, but like. I'm also not gonna take a ton of time out of my trip to find a post office, y'know? Certain legs of the trip will probably be easier than others for that.
FINALLY, if you want to know more about the trip before you decide to follow my IG or ask for a postcard (or, if like me, you are simply nosy) here's a vague overview of the trip:
The first couple weeks of the trip, I'll actually be on the ocean. There's this thing that cruise lines do called "repositioning cruises" where they literally just sail across the ocean. This is so a cruise company can use a ship in a different location, generally. Like if they usually use a boat in the Caribbean, but during another time of the year want to use it in the Pacific, they still need to get it over there. And why not let people ride it during the journey?
The trip is really more pragmatic than it is designed for tourists, though, so they tend to be very cheap. They're long, there aren't a lot of stops, they tend to be during unpopular travel times... So long story short, we can take a two week cruise to Japan for like... half the cost of a plane ticket to Japan. And my mother and I can work from wherever and my father and my aunt are retired, so. We'll just. be in the Pacific Ocean for two weeks. lmao
(I've moved around my work schedule so I probably won't have to do much work in Japan, but I'll have to work on the boat. ;;)
There will be one stop at the beginning of the trip (Alaska) and one at the end (Hokkaido!!!!!) so that'll be fun! But for the most part, I will mostly be working and writing and vegging out on the boat. I'm downloading a lot of tv now because boats tend to have minimal internet. lmao
(And don't worry, we chose a boat that has vax and testing requirements! Which... will probably make it safer than SEPTA here in Philly...)
Once we're in Japan, though, we're really gonna be putting our JR passes to the test. Here's a not exhaustive list of places we're going and things we're doing, in no particular order. (I... tend not to let people know exactly where I am until I've left that place lmao.)
Tokyo (obviously)
Kyoto
Osaka
Nara (to see the shosoin)
Yamagata
Two different onsen towns
Yokohama
Takarazuka 😎 iykyk
Tokyo Disneyland/DisneySea
Wakayama
Kawagoe
Maybe Hakone depending on weather
various Halloween-themed meals in Tokyo and Halloween itself in Dotonbori
several very sacred mountains to learn about shugendo
castles!! and more shrines and temples than you can shake a stick at
Asahi tour (for dad haha)
sumo stable tour (also for dad)
Pokemon stuff (.... also for dad lmao)
seein some cute animals
a lot of interesting food!!!
tbh we're going to be exhausted, but there's a lot of train travel and easy days in there so we can rest then. (dad and I both love trains lmao) Dad actually hurt himself about a month ago, so I took out some of the stuff I was planning that involved more walking (like the old pilgrimage route in Wakayama, climbing Nokogiriyama, and the monkey park in Jigokudani) so that'll also prevent me from overdoing it too much.
part of me is like "wow this is too much you should scale back and save responsibly" but a lot of my trip is gonna be subsidized by my family in return for translating for them all and arranging everything, and we're gonna save money in lodging and such, so I'm just. gonna tell my brain to shut up and enjoy living before we die lmao.
(when you grew up really poor, it can be kind of hard to let go and allow yourself to enjoy nice things when you're older and more stable financially lmao. but I'm getting better at it!)
also, I'm gonna bring Glen! my little Tabikaeru frog! we'll go to Kusatsu Onsen together lmao.

I was in Japan last week! We went to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka for a day. Then in Kyoto, we went to Arashiyama, Kiyomizu-dera, Teramachi & Shinkyogoku, and Fushimi Inari Taisha. Last we went to Shirahama, Kimiidera, Doujou-ji, and Wakayama Castle in Wakayama! We were so busy.
I just finished reading a short book while on the trip: The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. It was the most wonderful little love story about two young teens who fall in love but the girl's father objects to their relationship due to an awful rumor. With the counsel and support of their role models, the two of them hold out for the day they can be together again.
I took these pics of early-blooming sakura at Doujou-ji. It was raining all day, but Japan is super lovely in the rain. These are probably the best pictures I've ever taken of sakura.

Gunji - historical resources page Info about historical figures and links
Nako's Time Capsule
Aizu Digital Museum This is a website about the Aizu War (especially about the Byakkotai). There are a lot of images, etc., and I think that it is a very easy-to-understand HP.
Cut through history There are person introductions, Japanese history quizzes and chats. By the way, I didn't seem to be able to do the quiz at all... I have to study a little longer... Pathetic... (^^;;)
Shinsengumi Encyclopedia If you are a fan of Hijikata-san, you should definitely check it out. It's a tremendous amount of information. Even if you are not a fan of Hijikata-san, if you have even the slightest interest in the Shinsengumi, please take a look. However, it's very wide so don't get lost (laughs)
Mangetsudo I have been writing about the Shinsengumi since the days of the Roshitai. I think that it is quite rare that it is written from the time of the roshi corps. In addition, there are various corners.
Hashimoto's Home Page This website is made by Aizu. At the end of the Edo period, the person who was active in Aizu is written.
Wolves of Mibu Introducing the Shinsengumi. There is also an introduction to historical sites. Historical sites are introduced not only in Tokyo and Kyoto, but also in Hokkaido, Wakayama, and Osaka.
Hajime Saito 1 to 5 There is a lot written about Hajime Saito. It is worth seeing that the chronology, materials, and places related to Hajime Saito are gathered together.
One Thousand and One Nights There are essays on Bakumatsu, domain maps, and a chronological table of traction. Walking around Ome introduces temples and other places in Ome City with photos. Also, there are quite a lot of links related to the Bakumatsu period.
"Shinsengumi ~Yoake Mae~" There is not much content yet, but I think that the number one, Shinsengumi, is written on the HP. (Somehow, it's not explained...) The name of the person who made it is very nice.
Room of Historical Novels It introduces the works of Michiko Nagai, Ryotaro Shiba, and Jugo Kuroiwa. For once, the center seems to be Michiko Nagai. This is the HP I found while riding the waves. The work is introduced very carefully.
Historic Sites in Kyoto This is a website made by a person who lives in Kyoto, and describes the stone monuments found here and there in Kyoto. It is recommended for those who want to go but cannot go to Kyoto easily. With photos, the explanation is also polite, so please take a look at it once. From the chronological table, you can jump to the page that explains it.
Hokushin Castle This page mainly introduces castles in Tohoku. It also describes the Hakodate War. I think it's a very interesting HP because it introduces regardless of whether it's famous or not. (Hello, it seems that they have started introducing other areas besides Tohoku.)

Bike Shop in Iwade City
There are many friendly bike shops that offer rental bikes for those looking to explore Wakayama’s lush countryside on two wheels. When searching for a bicycle shop, look for one that offers a variety of styles and sizes of bicycles to suit all types of riders. Some of these shops will even sell a wide selection of cycling gear and accessories to help you prepare for your adventure. Check their site to know more details 岩出市のバイクショップ 和歌山のバイクショップ.
The town of Iwade is located just outside of Wakayama and has a very diverse economy, including light manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture. The town also has an extensive network of walking and hiking trails that provide visitors with a scenic view of the mountains surrounding Iwade.
Visitors to Iwade will find a wealth of cultural and historical sites, and there are several museums, parks, and temples located within the town. The town is also home to the Iwade castle, which was built in 1592. In addition to being a historic landmark, the castle is also home to a number of events that take place throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy a stroll around the interior of the castle while wearing costumes such as those worn by princesses, lords, and ninjas, or try their hand at throwing ninja stars in a ninja training course.
Iwade is also home to the Negoroji temple, which was built in the Heian Period (1200–1339) and features a series of pagodas, shrines, and buildings. The temple is located in the Katsuragi Mountains and is particularly beautiful during the spring and fall when the colors of the leaves change.
Iwade’s coast is the perfect place for a cycling adventure and there are a number of e-bike rental facilities available in town, making it easy to customise your trip to match your schedule and level of fitness. For example, you can start your journey at the KMICH e-bike rental shop in Kamitonda and choose to drop off or collect your bicycle at various ‘cycle bases’ along the way, depending on your schedule and route preference.
In Kamitonda, just minutes from JR Asso Station, the KMICH e-bike rental shop is ready to get you out and exploring. Its state-of-the-art equipment is both comfortable and easy to use, with superb suspension and impressive e-assist that will boost your efforts when needed. Upon collection you'll be given a quick lesson on how to operate your bike, and some basic tips for cycling in Japan.
Take a ride to the coast and discover the mesmerising sight of Cape Tenjinzaki, where a thin layer of seawater covers a beach. During low tide, the ocean and sky reflect each other beautifully, creating a unique Instagram-friendly scene that's said to be Japan's answer to the Uyuni salt flats of Bolivia. Continue riding around the coast and you'll come across Motoshima-jinja Shrine, where you can try out traditional cultural activities like zazen meditation and shakyo calligraphy, as well as take in the spectacular landscapes from the viewing platform at Kozen-ji Temple.
The ruins of Negoroji Temple are another must-see sight in Iwade city. This complex facility, built in the end of the Heian era, comprises Important Cultural Properties including the former assembly hall and eating facilities.
