one of the funniest moments of cql is when lan sizhui is really like ‘wow guys maybe this mass murderer wasnt ALL bad...’ to the guy whose parents the mass murderer KILLED. no memory of his childhood but he’s still like ‘we shouldnt fully judge without the full context.’ the full context is that he KILLED people, sizhui, he KILLED people. he killed jin ling’s parents! if i was jin ling i would have stabbed him!! earlier!!!
EDIT: Ok. Disclaimers for the post. I can’t believe I have to say this. THIS IS FROM THE JUNIORS’ POV. They do not know that LSZ is Wen Yuan. They do not know any of this. THIS IS ABOUT THE CQL SCENE. Idk if I feel like talking about the novel scene. I’ll revisit this later. I’m too tired to engage with people about things the OG post isn’t even about. You’ve all been too rude about this. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE JUNIORS’ BELIEFS. The entire point is that as the audience, WE know that LSZ is right. No one else knows that WWX is innocent. THANK YOU AND PLEASE STOP REBLOGGING VERSIONS OF THIS WHICH MISINTERPRET THE POST.

RAGHH!! Ok l lost it. I need nikolai content can l request a one shot with him taking every chance to ask the reader on a date? Like: imagine you are doing paper work BOOM he is there asking you out as a joke like that l’ll continue to losing it‼️‼️
Lost it
Oneshot: Where Nikolai doesn't take you as a joke, but do take you out on a date. Nikolai x Reader Masterlist Your wish is my command Nikolai simp anon, hope you find this post as always.
Tumblr media
"Nikolai, give it back I know you stole it"
"I don't steal. I steal time. I steal innocence. I steal the joy on people's faces. And most of all, I steal lives and the possibility of a brighter future!" Nikolai chucked, as he started to play with the book you owned.
You were peacefully reading a book after finishing up the task assigned to you, thinking that you could have a 'me' time
but alas, where there is free time, there is him smirking casually , swaying away his hands over yours, and in the heat of moment you book is gone.
"Enough with the confused talk Gogol, hand me the book" You stated, as you streached your hands outwards to take away the book from him.
"Nah-uh, you always spend time on paperwork by Fyodor, and here you are owning such a free time, you choose to spend it read a book over me?" Nokolai stated dramatically, as he disappeared the book inside his cape.
"WAIT NO-"
Nikolai could only give off an innocent smile.
"You why?" You said as you tried to throw some punches at him. Sadly he wasn't ready to give up just yet.
"GIVE IT TO MEEE" You weakly battle cried, as you tried to punch him despite the fact you were worn out from everything by now.
"Well maybe if...."
"Fine Fine, what is it?"
And most of the time he made sure your eyes, soul and attention always was on his to which he went to every extend an abnormal ability user could do.
You free? Lets disturb you <3
You are growing flowers? Lets make sure they are replaced with fresh ones from the nursery, I mean why grow them?
You are talking to anyone other then him? The audiency! He makes sure the shoes are untied and that their car is set in reverse gear.
"Gogal! You cant just scare away my clients!!" "But Y/NNNNN its not my fault that they are taking more time to leave then usualll"
"Nikolai Gogol, where the hell are you taking me?" You said, as you walked in front of him, his hands over you eyes as the world in front of you was dark.
"Ah-uh, now we don't want to ruin the fun do we?" He replied back, his face just beside your ear, as his breath could be felt on your face. The distance between you two was close and you swore, if Fyodor saw this state, He would be the first one to laugh off.
Slowly, his hands went back to his sides, as you opened you eyes wide, staring at the sight. It was breathtaking except
you both were on an edge of a cliff.
"Nikolai- where?" You said, as you held onto the man now, the fear of falling down scared you. If you ever wanted to die, you rather not die from heights.
"Isnt it pretty Y/NNNN?" he says, as he helds you close, his arms around your body secured, even if there was no sense of security because you both could fall off any minute.
"IT Is but- Can we just go somewhere else?"
"Awww I thought you liked the view?"
"Yea well I would if we just back away a little" You said, as both of you backed away, the sight still in view as the sun settled down.
"Y/N-"
"Look!" You suddenly pointed at the land far away excitedly, as he followed his eyes towards where you pointed out, "I DIDNT KNOW WE HAD AN AMUSEMENT PARK!?"
"Wellll RIDDLE ME!" He shouted, as he spun around, laughing meniacly asking "Do Ms Y/N Perhaps wanna visit it?"
"Could me?"
"Only if you want"
You laughed a little at his response, his goofiness over the place as you half ran towards him and hugged him, only for him to spin you around until dizziness caught the best of you and you fell onto the ground.
"So Y/N, wanna check it out?"
"Is that a date Nikolai?" you playfully asked.
"Yes"
Oh how that word make you feel butterflies and bees in stomach.

another tierlist because ppl actually liked that first one;
the crème de la crop;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first 2 eps i thought it was fine, but it didnt really captivate me as much as id hoped. but then ep 3 changed everything for me. i started to think "how could living armour work logically? everything so far has been edible, so this must be too, right?" i actually managed to think of the exact thing that this series did. that really made me realise the worldbuilding in this was something unique, and it only got better and better with each episode. its really managed to captivate me and i look forward to "delicious donderdag" every week :)
ANIME ORIGINAL LETS GOOOO absolutely bonkers show that almost slipped by me because it initially tried to fool its audience into thinking it was a regular dramatic military show. it still is but theres also a giant robot who plays by saturday morning cartoon giant robot rules. if that sounds like tonal whiplash to you, trust me, it is. and its amazing. have i mentioned how homoerotic this one is as well? yeah. originally a tier below this one, but immediately after finishing this post i watched the newest ep. i had to make an exception and edit the list because ep 9 changes everything. i havent been gobsmacked by a show this hard in a while.
(return of the) show(s) that execute their own premise very well;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i havent read the manga for yubisaki to renren so i cant compare, but the quality of this adaptation has been very consistent. you need a little sweet romance every once in a while :) this is one of those series where the characters really grew on me the longer it went on. im always a fan of mixing realistic struggles with romance and this one has been doing it well so far
adaptations that are ok (i read the manga for both of these);
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've been a mashle fan since before s1 aired. and the anime has some good changes and additions here and there! but its not very consistent in terms of quality, it does that shonen thing where the animation quality suddenly spikes for certain action sequences, but it also frequently had a lot of scenes where they recycle shots a lot and nothing interesting happens on the screen for a considerable amount of time. still! its a fine adaptation. and yeah the op for this. blew tf up lmao? very strange to see happen in real time
i actually rlly like the manga for this one. i read the whole thing up until vol.6 before the season started (all that was available back then) and it made me cry multiple times throughout. i was sort of missing that connection with the show, though some of the later episodes still hit. its mostly to do with the animation quality, which isnt that great unfortunately. the voice actors are knocking it out of the park though
wghere am i;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is this show good? i. uh. will you hate me if i say yes...? objectively, i know its not that good. especially in the animation department. but if you like other Umatani shows, you'll like this one. it's got the same brand of goofy reactionary humour mixed with gimmicky tacky characters and crazy stupid plot twists. ive been faithfully watching this one each week and I'm afraid i've become very invested. overscientific indeed
bro you fell off...;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i was so beyond excited for this one. i replayed the op a million times, watched each preview, rewatched multiple episodes. and then. ep 5 happened. and i started to realise. oh this show kind of sucks doesnt it? the pacing of the first ep was great, but the rest? way too fast. it became clear with ep 6 that theyre trying to do a double cour show with half the length, which is why they started hauling ass plot-wise. now. i was an arajin apologist for the longest time. but at that point i honestly started to loathe him. even when he stepped up, his praise still felt sort of unearned. and to top it all off, shindou's motivation sucked so he felt like a lousy antagonist. ep6 was better than 5, but it really made me lose my enthusiasm and hope for the series. and right as we were talking about them probably not having time for a filler ep, ep7 happened. feels like a waste of time to do an ep like that when you've still got a whole 2nd arc to go through. but who am i
it started off pretty good honestly. but then chris went to the hospital and it kind of just dwindled from there. this season does so much with characters that have not even been properly introduced like how am i supposed to care about these people if i barely know who they are. the stuff with finn and leo respectively was good though. but the lore dump? lord help me. also vijay just kind of. exists to be there in the background huh? i would not call him a main character they never give him any attention. wendy had another ep again and he didnt get shit. again. also i think finn was stupid as fuck for not listening to lala but again. who am i. i know we cant destroy high card because we need a show but. cmon man.
i am severely behind on these;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
reason why im behind is because most of the eps are a bit heavy so i kept. not watching them. its starting to get rlly interesting though so i'm def gonna catch up this is one of those robo-racism shows so i have to really watch out to see where its going. dont want another marginal service situation...
sorry this is just. a little too boring for me. its charming, sure. but i think this wouldve worked better as something with an 11 min timeslot instead of 23 min. theres just a bit too mu- or well, too little for me to rlly get into this. i think reading it would be more fun for me personally

the fact that we know theres not much aside from "my body is meant to exploited" line to hint that angeldust is being sexually abused before ep 4 is the worst bit. tuca and bertie had its workplace SA scene before dropping jellybean lake which was far heavier than the things that happened with pastry pete. other shows build a catalogue that makes it clear that they are going to explore said themes before dumping it on the audience. maybe ep 4 starts with angel being confronted by it. maybe they hint before it gets to the song. its still a extreme softcore rapeporn scene in a 16+ show with no other episode before it that hints these themes are going to be in what is, once again, a 16+ show that is intended for teenagers aka children.
im pretty sure if tuca and bertie did jellybean lake first (which isnt even exclipt like the poison scene) episode-run wise and the pastry pete arc late the audience would've reacted differently. probably not as bad as people are reacting to poison but it wouldve felt far more out of left field if they started off with one of the MCs going to the other "im a csa survivour." and i say that knowing the paraphrasing ignores that it was done far more elquently and with the correct amount of care needed in tuca and bertie than what weve seen of ep 4 of hh so far.
i guess im just mainly upset that even if the full episodes context makes it better itll always be gross. im just hoping that it wont by "i spit on your grave" levels of bad. mainly saying that cause i went into the first movie thinking "oh wow this will be a great rape-revenge story i bet" from the descriptions only to regret there being no clarifaction on just how bad the rape in the first movie was. i swear it was a full on half hour at least of what was just rapeporn at the very start. i had to keep skipping forward when i watched it because it was that bad and sickening to me only to be met with more rape. i couldnt even find pleasure in the revenge against the rapists because the actual SA scene in isoyg turned my stomach that much, i didnt even finish it because i couldnt take it long after the SA stopped, which caused me to ditch all plans of looking into the rest of the series as well. for obvious reasons.
and i just feel worried that what viv has done with angel dust will do that for so many people with weaker stomachs than me. i guess thats the point most people upset about ep 4 are trying to make.
Yeah, not much else for it until we see how bad it is. If nothing else, I'm sure it won't be I Spit on Your Grave levels of awful, but for some people, it doesn't need to be.
The fact that so much seems to be taken from Raph's video and their horrible gag disclaimer doesn't bode well for it.

Henry Creel is Presumed Dead- Right? The TFS Creel Murders Are So Damn Weird, And Henry Broke The Fourth Wall AGAIN
So, in TFS, after the Creel murders happen, Henry shows up for the play, and ends up bumping into Joyce in the basement:
Tumblr media
But then when we look at the Creel murders in the show, Henry (who is also 12, not 14), is passed out on the floor & as far as we can tell, doesn’t leave the house.
Tumblr media
Which, begs the question: why the hell are the events of the show SO different from the play, and how did Henry’s fake death end up happening when it comes to TFS?
Like, it’s SO different.
Henry ends up monologuing to Joyce in the basement of the school BEFORE the play- but while this happens, Henry is also shown pulling the cloth off of Virginia’s body:
Tumblr media
And Victor gets arrested during this scene:
Tumblr media
And then Henry later continues talking with Joyce & goes up to the catwalk with Patty.
But this means that Alice and Virginia were already dead when Henry got to the school (which tracks with Patty saying he has blood on his shirt + Brenner saying Henry killed his family):
Tumblr media
But if the Creel murders happened before Henry went to the school, then how does THAT work??? After all, all of the papers list Henry/Edward as one of the victims. But Hopper Sr (AND Hopper Jr, who also shows up to the scene) would’ve noticed that Henry’s corpse wasn’t in the Creel house when arresting Victor, and Patty and Joyce both saw Henry at the school after the murders.
So, that means that Joyce, Hopper Sr, Hopper Jr, and Patty all know that Henry wasn’t killed at the Creel house.
So, what do they think happened to him? After all, Patty likely knows that Brenner took him/suspects it but doesn’t know for sure, but we have no idea if she ever told Jim or Hopper Sr or Joyce about that.
It’s weird as hell. And it also makes me wonder about the fact that in the Indianapolis Gazette, it talks about how Victor was found by local Hawkins Police wandering along the side of the road on the early morning after the Creel murders and dropped off at the Creel house again in the morning to find the bodies.
Becayse like I talked about in this post, what we see in TFS re: Victor’s arrest & being arrested by the local police seems to align with him being arrested in the morning. But in the play, it almost seems like this takes place at night, as Henry is down with Joyce on the night of the play while Virginia and Alice’s bodies are shown:
Tumblr media
However, the only time that Virginia and Alice’s bodies get shown is when they’re weirdly overlaid with Henry while he’s ranting to Joyce- Henry isnt ACTUALLY at the Creel house, which is what makes the whole sequence so damn weird.
So, theoretically, considering Henry’s weird future powers AND the fact that it’s only the audience (not Joyce) who sees/acknowledges Henry with Alice and Virginia’s bodies, there’s a chance that he was actually interacting with the future versions of the corpses from the morning after the murders/he was witnessing Victor get arrested in the morning after the murders (just like he does in the Edward timeline).
But there’s also the fact that the local cops who arrest Victor in TFS (one of which is Hop Sr) might not be the same cop who’s named as having picked Victor up in the Indianapolis Gazette, as Deputy John Snow is listed but not Hop Sr:
Tumblr media
So maybe that wasn’t the Edward timeline after all. Or, maybe it was the Edward timeline, and it was different cops/those two coos that are with Hop Sr picked Victor up & then Hop Sr was called in & arrested Victor. It’s hard to tell, because we don’t know the names of those cops that are with Hop Sr.
My point is: there’s something super mega fucking weird with the TFS version of the Creel murders & specifically the TFS version of Victor’s arrest & the circumstances surrounding Henry’s supposed death.
It’s really hard to pull apart because of that super weird scene of Henry walking around Alice and Virginia’s bodies, and pulling a cloth off of Virginia’s body but seemingly not actually physically being in the Creel house because he’s in the basement with Joyce (which, the thing about him pulling on the cloth also ties into what I talked about in this post re: Henry pulling off Virginia’s dress and how, as a result of doing that, he’s breaking the fourth wall wall & acknowledging that he’s in a play- the scene with the cloth is the same sort of phenomena.)
Which, re: that fourth wall break, what’s EXTRA EXTRA weird here is that while neither Hop Sr or Hop Jr acknowledge Henry’s presence at the Creel house (seemingly because he isn’t actually there & is instead in the school basement with Joyce), Hop Sr DOES look over at Virginia’s corpse right after Henry pulls the cloth off of it:
Tumblr media
It’s so damn weird. And the whole “Henry being in the school but also weirdly being in the Creel house” thing likely ties into what I talked about in this post with how basically every location in TFS seems to be Hawkins High (which is EVEN MORE WEIRDER because prior, the Creel house is one of the only locations that was NEVER Hawkins High, but now it is- the following screenshot is during Victor arrest/Hop Sr finding the bodies & the set is clearly Hawkins High)
Tumblr media
There’s also the fact that right before Henry does his weird Creel house visit, he talks to Joyce about how he was only hearing voices before, but now he can see them, he can see all of them:
Tumblr media
So, while his Creel house visit does seem to be some sort of weird void/astral projection thing, he’s a.) not shown in the void and not using his blindfold and b.) he’s physically interacting with things like the cloth on Virginia and c.) we don’t know when that Creel murders scene is happening, if it’s the night of the murders or the morning after & if Henry’s time travelling and d.) there’s still the whole issue of how Henry’s corpse wasn’t there & how Hop Sr and Hop Jr would’ve known that.
Anyway! I would love to know what the hell is going on!!!

does aziraphale understand suffering?
i spent quite a while last night thinking about this topic following reading this thought-provoking analysis from @lstarart which, as the first bit indicates, early-days aziraphale only understood what it is to suffer in the abstract when it has a direct link to whether or not someone is Good (summarising very poorly!). nonetheless, i thought perhaps the concept of suffering according to aziraphale might need exploring a little further.
(warning: very long post - frankly it's just self indulgent)
suffering from lack of self-worth
one of the most heartbreaking moments in s2 for me is when in ep6 it seems that shax has a penchant for driving right at the heart of insecurity. she demonstrates this with maggie and the insult she directs at her, which to me acts somewhat as a parallel for crowley, culminating in the line “you are unloved, and unlovable. you’re nobody, and you’ll live - and you’ll die - a nobody.” now first of all - crowley isn’t there to hear it, and so only the audience can draw this as a narrative parallel. second - maggie’s reaction is to rise up to meet shax, and fight fire with fire; she looks first back at nina, perhaps for conviction or strength, says to the demons, “my god, you lot are pathetic.”, and appears instead to own those insecurities and refuse to be ashamed of them.
but then shax later turns her attention on aziraphale, who doesn't have that same conviction nor bolster from crowley being physically present, and shax directly drives at the heart of things about him of which he ought to be ashamed. we’ve always seen these elements of aziraphale as being the most lovable parts of him, and are what makes him the enigmatic and dynamic character that he is. however, as is hinted in s1 and now becomes abundantly clear, aziraphale guards these deep in his soul as being his deepest faults, cracks that he has ignored as they have widened, and has carried as a mark of him being lacking:
“Aziraphale… what are you? Crowley’s emotional support angel? The softest touch. The one who went native. Do you need more big, human meals, Aziraphale? Shall we send up the sushi?”
ive written about this before, so a lot of this is going to be repeated, but my thought process on these particular ‘faults’ is this; it is not beyond belief that aziraphale has major issues with self-worth and feeling like he isnt ‘enough’. what shax strikes at are, as i said, elements of ‘fault’ within aziraphale that we have had glimpses of through s1 and into the earlier episodes of s2; she remarks on his propensity for indulgence (sushi/meals), his tendency to be overtrusting and naive ("softest touch"), his lack of traditional angelic quality ("went native"), and the question of what exactly crowley feels for him and what purposes aziraphale serves in their dynamic (emotional support angel").
the way i see it is that aziraphale looks to two sources when evaluating his own self worth; heaven (and possibly god by extension), and crowley. heaven and the archangels completely disregard aziraphale, and are condescending and reductive in how they perceive and interact with him, with gabriel going so far as to insult his corporation (an insecurity that, iirc, we can even glean directly from the book when aziraphale reacts 'with disappointment' to the body he is in after adam splits him from madame tracy).
and crowley? well, to my mind, crowley’s dispensation to overprotect (whilst coming from a good place, of that i’m certain) reduces aziraphale’s agency, especially when crowley essentially talks over him in ep5 (and at other points too), and i could imagine leaves aziraphale questioning what exactly he is able to contribute to their relationship other than being a receptacle for crowley’s sense of loneliness and desertion. we know that's not the case, that it's infinitely more than that, but i could imagine that in this sense of feeling dismissed, aziraphale could see it like this.
then we have the two occasions where crowley strikes at aziraphale in regards to his naivety and belief, (“how could someone as clever as you be so stupid?”, “you’re better than that, angel!”) which, whilst is entirely valid from crowley’s perspective - because aziraphale is naive in his belief in higher power being willing to do the right thing, or be better - from aziraphale’s perspective, he’s struggled through millennia of reconciling his belief system and whether or not the side that he ‘belongs to’ is in fact Good or Right, and he in this he's still struggling. but hes getting there, and crowley has effectively been by his side guiding him through this monumental shift in his psyche; to have it turned on him in this manner had to hurt, even if he knows/realises after the fact that crowley was right.
imo, all of these elements strike at the notion that aziraphale is not “good enough”, especially in the eyes of the two entities to which he needs most to in fact think of him as enough, exactly as he is, in order to affirm any sense of self-worth. as i said in another post on this point:
“he's good enough to guard the eastern gate, but not good enough to keep adam and eve from temptation. he's good enough to guard and monitor the antichrist, but not enough to be truly accepted as part of the heaven hive (his physical sentry post on earth notwithstanding). he's good enough for crowley to run away with to alpha centauri, but not enough to convince crowley to choose to stay and fight with him to prevent the apocalypse… right up until ep6 when he's good enough to be loved by crowley enough to spend eternity with, but not enough for crowley to sacrifice his hang-ups with heaven and help him rebuild it as a team so noone else ever has to suffer what they both did.”
what point am i trying to reach here, as regards aziraphale’s perspective on the concept of suffering? well, to me, in this context, he knows suffering very well. he knows suffering of the personal kind, and it has never left him. It might have burrowed its way down, hidden under the affirmation that ‘i’m happy with myself, and crowley seems to want to know me, so it’s fine’, but it never has left him. he has been essentially ignored and neglected and traumatised by his experience with heaven, and slowly dismantling that belief system has been difficult and painful. however, instead of resolving to replace the source any sense of self-esteem with a belief in himself, he appears to have instead replaced it with crowley. and that's not fair on crowley, to be put on that pedestal (yes, my favourite topic of pedestals rears its ugly head).
aziraphale takes the opportunity with heaven given by metatron not only as one that would prevent further harm to him and crowley but also to others, an opportunity arguably of a more altruistic kind, but he sees it as an assurance that he, as himself (someone who is not wholly Good and in fact has faults), is what is needed to bring change to a broken system. it wouldn’t surprise me if in s3 aziraphale initially changes his emotional allegiance to heaven, away from crowley - a mirror of his resolution at the end of s1 - because the opportunity he’s been given, in his eyes, shows that heaven considers him enough, even if crowley no longer does. he channels his suffering in a wholly unhealthy way, unable or refusing to find self-worth in anywhere but a third party where he lays his absolute loyalty, whereas instead he needs to find it within himself first and foremost.
suffering from fear of discovery
somewhat leading on from this is aziraphale's fear of his and crowley's relationship being discovered. ive covered this in multiple other posts, but please be mindful that i go into this section under my own interpretation that neither crowley nor aziraphale have been in love with each other since the pre-fall scene. aziraphale is clearly crushing on the angel who crowley was (AWCW), that much is obvious (and AWCW is rather... ignorant of this), and even in a short space of time aziraphale comes to care enough for AWCW that he experiences concern and fear for the repurcussions should he start asking questions. but i don't think he's in love.
arguably, aziraphale and crowley from eden onwards begin very much as acquaintances. this evolves into allyship and burgeoning friendship, but the tone of their relationship to each other doesnt seem to shift until 1601, when aziraphale vocalises his worry over their arrangement, "but if hell finds out, they won't just be angry - they'll destroy you." aziraphale doesn't express any kind of concern for himself, only for crowley.
now this, i think, is a reflection of aziraphale's prejudice on hell being the black in the black and white; even if heaven found out, whilst they'd be angry, they wouldnt do anything drastic because it's the side of love and mercy. hell by contrast is torture and pain and cruelty. but beyond this - because i do think at this point aziraphale has started to truly recognise that crowley is not of hell himself - i think it is also out of genuine concern compared to that of his own wellbeing. the two reasons are not mutually exclusive.
this kind of continues into 1793; crowley tells him not to thank him for rescuing him, and aziraphale seems to recognise that crowley has a point - he immediately rewords his thanks as being "very grateful", and instead offers a transaction to express his gratitude. maybe not as deep and meaningful, but he seems to recognise that placing crowley under any scrutiny, however inadvertently, could spell for disaster. there is also the suggested risk of heaven now potentially keeping a closer eye on aziraphale, which is compounded by the legendary chocolates scene that didn't unfortunately make its way into the final cut.
that being said, the scene is in the script book - and as such, im mindful to accept it firmly as canon (can't remember if neil has confirmed it canon or not, given its not in the show). as a recap: in this, gabriel and sandalphon turn up unexpectedly to aziraphale's bookshop just before its opening in 1800, tell him he's being commended, and is required to return to heaven, thereby abandoning his sentry post on earth.
at this point, unnoticed by gabriel and sandalphon, crowley turns up armed with a gift box of chocolates. aziraphale pushes that he needs to remain in earth, citing that only he is able to properly thwart his hellish counterpart, adding that crowley is wily and cunning and brilliant - prompting gabriel to remark that it sounds like aziraphale admires him. this aziraphale understandably immediately denies, adding that he can't possibly like or admire a demon, but does respect him. crowley at this point has disappeared, but later enacts a pantomime that gabriel overhears, and gabriel resolves later to keep aziraphale stationed in earth.
if nothing else, this must put the alarm bells in aziraphale's head that heaven can turn up any time they want, and it could be at the most damning time; in this instance, it very nearly was. i would like to think that crowley understood why aziraphale had to say what he did, understood it was nothing personal, and aziraphale absolutely does not think this himself, and it was instead a ruse to protect them both from discovery. but following on from this scene? it would stand to reason that that fear is always in the back of aziraphale's mind; that heaven is just as capable as hell of ripping them apart and potentially making them suffer for it.. and in this case, the separation would have been a byproduct. imagine what their sides could do if they actually tried.
but back to 1827, where crowley is pulled down the hell hatch; what i personally believe to potentially be a direct consequence of aziraphale complimenting him on doing a good deed, and hell potentially overhearing. but this moves swiftly into 1862, which starts off tense and cold, for reasons that ive recently parsed out. aziraphale is placed into an incredibly difficult position by crowley's request for holy water. crowley is desperate for it, his body language and certain cues in that scene support that, but aziraphale doesn't fully know why. we, the audience, can hypothesise that it's likely a direct result of the 1827 yeeting, but aziraphale doesn't necessarily know that - a) because he's not truly listening to crowley in that conversation, and b) crowley presumably hasn't told him. at the very least, aziraphale doesn't seem to put the puzzle pieces together until 1967.
he immediately refuses the holy water because it could harm crowley, and to boot would mean that aziraphale himself would come under scrutiny. in the same breath, he reduced their friendship to fraternisation, either out of hurt/upset of crowley having ghosted him for (what we assume is) 35 years, or to put distance between them for crowley's and his safety; it'll be horrendous enough to be discovered for that, let alone if either side find out how far the fraternisation has actually gotten. if you bring the 1800 missing scene into this, that reaction would make sense.
1941 is rather self-explanatory, because it openly poses the risk that if aziraphale and crowley's relationship were discovered, crowley would be subject to a pretty shit existence in hell. aziraphale saves them though, and all is well, but it was a remarkably close shave. i do think that we are missing a key part of context that will be revealed in s3, but for the moment let's speculate that there is a trilogy aspect to 1941, and in that last part they get a little too close to More, and/or the reason behind the holy water request is revealed and discussed, but for sake of crowley's immediate safety aziraphale once again refuses.
between then and 1967, aziraphale seems to come to the conclusion that crowley having access to holy water is the lesser of two evils, and even if it is dangerous, it is infinitely more palatable than crowley being subject to whatever hell could bring to him. aziraphale hands it over, but is still beside himself at doing so - that he could be responsible for crowley's destruction - and physically and emotionally distances himself from crowley because of the implications of it. but nonetheless it seems that aziraphale firmly places crowley's wellbeing above his own, and risks discovery in order to ensure that crowley has a way out if things go tits up again.
i think it can be accepted that crowley and aziraphale don't truly interact again until 2008(?) when the antichrist business begins. aziraphale visibly blanches at gabriel's mention of crowley in the sushi bar, which i think can be interpreted as being out of that long-stagnating guilt of their association, reawakening the fear of heaven finding out, and also just out of good ol' fashioned pain of the separation aziraphale presumably enforced following, "you go too fast for me".
their interactions from st james seem stilted and tense (even in the ritz and the bookshop, to me it all feels very business-like, especially from aziraphale's perspective), up until tadfield manor, where their old dynamic seems to rise to the surface for air, and they settle into their old familiarity. crowley gets aggressive about being complimented, but it seems that aziraphale's fear of heaven finding out about them takes a backseat. that express lack of fear doesn't really come back to bite aziraphale until the archangels later accost him, and accuse him of consorting with the enemy - aziraphale denies this, not knowing that they have literal evidence of it.
but once we cycle through to the airfield, it feels like all bets are off; because as far as theyre both concerned, they're breaking away from heaven and hell. they do their little body swap, get them momentarily off their backs, and they don't have to hide anything anymore. we find out from crowley's perspective in s2 that that isn't entirely the case - that shax and beelzebub still manage to work their way into his life - but he doesn't tell aziraphale, and aziraphale assumes that they're free to live - and love? - as they please. this is evident in how gung-ho (by aziraphale standards) he goes in demonstrating his affection for crowley throughout s2.
aziraphale suffers for his association with crowley, and crowley for vice versa. and they both know that the other suffers, or at least surmises it. aziraphale specifically knows that their relationship, if the full extent were truly discovered, could lead to their respective downfalls, and this is where i think the true point of suffering comes into this context. aziraphale is obviously apprehensive of what heaven would do and how they would react to their relationship, but it's never really explicit what exactly he fears - he never mentions a fear of falling, for example. no, instead, the only true fear he vocalises is what would happen to crowley - a much more powerful and compelling motivator for hiding the truth.
and that has to hurt aziraphale, this being of love who wholly cares and (post-1941) loves crowley (and arguably also realises that crowley might have Feelings for him too), but the safety of the subject of that love is directly compromised should he act on it, or even acknowledge it. the only time he truly does is at the end of s2, by pleading with crowley to finally be with him where he (in his mind) thinks they won't have to hide anymore - who would dare challenge them? - but crowley can't do it.
and that's understandable, but it will require them to not only mask what they feel for each other from their respective sides (as if metatron didn't know already - he explicitly states that he knows about their association), but also now, once again and with the aim of not fully feeling the pain of their separation, from each other. the need to mask and hide and camouflage that love is suffering of a different kind, and again - aziraphale knows it all too well.
suffering from crisis in belief
now this is where i think we get to the kind of suffering that either aziraphale can't understand, or refuses to acknowledge because of the implications threatening to shake apart a core tenet of his character.
for this, im going to start back at the beginning, and specifically with adam and eve. aziraphale seems to know that without a literal weapon to protect themselves - which so happens to be a flaming sword, he went all-out - their lives are going to be rather short ones. eve is already expecting a baby, and aziraphale sees the absolute need to protect human life as paramount. he is a guardian, so this would track. he seems to understand that they would come to harm, that they would suffer, if they didn't have a means with which to defend themselves. the only key point that he and crowley both seem to miss is the implication of knowledge, specifically between good and evil, could also lead to suffering in humanity.
aziraphale just seems to know that it must be bad, even after literally seeing the fall (presumably) first hand... there is an issue with knowing the difference between good and evil, because it leads to conflict. but when crowley brings up that god should have made it more difficult to get to the tree, if it would lead to this, aziraphale chalks it up to all being 'ineffable'. he justifies that whatever happens to humanity - and by extension whatever suffering it encounters - it will all have been for a reason. that being said, he obviously feels some degree of doubt; he gives them the sword.
then we come on to mesopotamia, a thousand years later, when aziraphale is faced with the flood. he tries to excuse the flood by way of remarking that it only appears to be localised, and even then some humans are going to be spared. but crowley quite rightly points out that there are children that will be killed, and aziraphale meekly agreed, giving the suggestion that he too thinks it immoral, but that they cannot judge the almighty, and once again it must all be for a Reason. this extends into uz, when aziraphale battles directly with disobeying god's orders to bring suffering to job and his family when they have done nothing but be loyal and faithful in god. he remarks that he doesn't think that this is truly what god wants, but evidently can't be sure - and yet nonetheless fully commits to ending their suffering, and in turn expects to fall for it. he doesn't.
we then fast-forward to golgotha, and both of them watch as god's son is crucified, this time adding that he doesn't get consulted on policy decisions - intimating that if he did, if he had a choice, this wouldn't be happening at all, and he would end jesus' suffering. this one is difficult, because we as the audience know that the wider context is that jesus is submitting himself to die for humanity's sins; we could assume that aziraphale doesn't necessarily know this, but maybe he does, and to know might hypothetically cause him further internal conflict. does he save the one, and ensure the suffering of the rest? to have that dilemma would bring him too close to acting god, but it's an interesting prospect nonetheless. in any case, aziraphale seems to recognise jesus' suffering.
we don't really then have any further flashbacks of aziraphale being faced with human suffering until 1793, with the reign of terror. it doesn't go into detail on the intricacies of the terror or indeed the revolution, but he does remark that the execution of suspected and confirmed counter-revolutionists was "terrible". he remarks to crowley that he had heard france was getting rather "carried away", which would indicate that he had at least heard of what was happening and why.
we could take this in either two ways; that aziraphale, as a foreshadowing of 1827 - doesn't see why the people were revolting (and resulting at this point in robespierre and the committee's measures) - doesn't understand why people would be driven through their suffering to revolt, or he does see it and still feels that the measures they've resulted are not suitably justified. we don't have enough narrative of aziraphale in this particular setting to be able to reliably gauge what aziraphale's reaction to the terror truly is.
if i were optimistic, however, i would say it was the latter, because that would indicate that aziraphale has a higher level of thought on suffering, but still finds that the terror is unjustifiable - i think that would be a perfectly fair conclusion to arrive at, objectively. but unfortunately i think it is the former - that he doesn't really stop to consider why the people are revolting, doesn't see why the objectively awful thing they are doing may actually have moral justification, and what has driven them to these extremes. again, we don't know the reason why this might pose internal conflict for aziraphale... but we definitely do in 1827.
everyone knows this minisode, i think; a lot of it hinges on aziraphale being faced point-blank with reconciling why morality is not binary, and is always dualistic. he sees elspeth digging up bodies, desecrating them, and selling them to a surgeon for money. this is bad. he justifies his conviction because it is an immoral thing to do, and instead elspeth should have chosen another, more righteous, good, path. crowley correctly points out that that is difficult - if not impossible - when to do good is not an option that you can afford, or it has not been afforded to you. aziraphale argues that in fact to have experienced suffering, to start from the bottom, gives you more opportunities and more choices to chose the good thing simply because it's good. he further argues that it is ineffable, and that suffering is ultimately for a Reason.
but then he learns what is done with the bodies. he cradles the tumour of a young boy that didn't survive because doctors and surgeons didn't know what it was. he is confronted with the prospect that what he believes to be bad is in fact good, because it leads in this instance to human advancement and the possibility of ending suffering to more people. and he still misses the point. it's not as simple as switching out the label, because nothing is wholly good or bad; everything is a bit of both.
digging up bodies has the potential to hurt the people that mourn that person, but it educates others into ensuring that medically-preventable death doesn't need to happen. you could extrapolate this to elspeth - giving her the money doesn't guarantee her a better life, it could even make her a target, but it gives her a chance to feed and house herself away from the streets. preventing her suicide is good because her life is worth living and she could give and do so much, but she'll now presumably live her life suffering through the grief of losing morag. all he - and crowley - can do is give her the choice, and that is the right thing.
i think the ultimate issue with aziraphale being confronted with the suffering of humanity is that it directly plunges his belief into crisis, and specifically the belief that god is good, that god is benevolent, and god is ineffable. he watches as people suffer - all the examples ive listed above - and it directly contradicts his steadfast confidence in god and her action/inaction, because it leads to the question 'why'. further than that - what if he doesn't agree with the answer, if it's ever given? he definitely sees and acknowledges suffering, but doesn't look deeper into why they are given suffering in the first place, because of what answer he could potentially find.
aziraphale opts to turn a blind eye, to deliberately not see it, because he is scared of the possibility that he doesn't agree. he might not even realise he's doing it; that he's avoiding confronting the fact that he might not like what he finds. as i alluded to in the golgotha example, to potentially know more would be to place him in the position of god; able - and potentially enticed - to change the paths that people are going down that they should be able to follow or divert off of by their own choice.
heres where i come to the example of maggie; she is struggling with paying the rent, and resolves to move out. aziraphale initially doesn't fully comprehend that she cannot pay, just chalks it up to him being absent-minded and forgets the concept of not being able to pay for things, but when she clarifies, he offers up the opportunity to just forget the debt. ultimately, it means nothing to him, but i don't think he means this in a superior way; he's a supernatural, millions-year-old being where money is frankly irrelevant. its obvious that forgiving the debt, regardless, benefits him, and acts as his main motivator (and he even acknowledges this to crowley, "it hardly counts; a purely selfish action."), but he is being indirectly benevolent and kind through that selfish action. a bit of good, a bit of bad. maggie is grateful, but he doesn't take any gratification from it - if anything, he looks uncomfortable.
i think it's possible that now, following his historical experiences, being in the position of being able to do good somewhat makes him more uncomfortable that he's willing to admit. because to do good like this would be to acknowledge suffering. acknowledging suffering by way of countering it puts him in the position of having to understand why the suffering exists. and if suffering exists, then that shakes his belief of god - and himself - being good in the first place.

jefferson morales, father of two. (its actually one but he doesnt know thats atm) (this is a character analysis) (its long)
Tumblr media
so in the beginning of the movie, its clear that jefferson isnt entirely sure how to interact with miles given the way they interact, specifically in the i love you scene at visions. the drive isnt much better either but the i love you scene. he doesnt approve of miles' incredibly mild vandalism, which like, he is a cop. were gonna ignore that though cause uh, its my post. point is, in the beginning of the film, jefferson doesnt know what to do with miles at all, they love eachother but theres a rift. (this rift is likely caused in part by miles' attachment to aaron but that is for another day)
anyways, i dont have all the screenshots and even if i did, a large amount of the development im about to reference is offscreen. also theres a picture limit.
Tumblr media
sometime after he issued the apb for spidey he probably spoke to rio, who probably wouldve helped him process enough to get to the point hes at when he shows up at the miles' dorm for his talk, which because miles was tied up ended up being more of a speech. something about aarons death made him realize that keeping his thoughts about miles and his hope for him locked up could only end badly. he spends to whole movie reaching out to miles, here is where he actually manages a genuine connection. hes just lost his brother, and for all they didnt get along near then end theyre family. jefferson doesnt want to lose miles, thats what this is about. not entirely, but enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
more time passes, i imagine another talk with rio and some wicked introspection, then hes at the collider. he sees wilson fisk beating up the new spiderman, wilson fisk the philanthropist. throughout the movie its hammered into the audience that between all the spideys, one of the few things they all have in common is that they get back up, the characters know this to. what else is he supposed to do here but say "get up spiderman"?
Tumblr media
when they get out of fisk tower, the first thing miles does is call jefferson, heres where i really reccomend you just rewatch the scene buti i will talk about it after this. once spidey shows up, we see that jefferson is mildly uncomfortable and unsure how to react in his presence, its not hard to understand, hes gone from thinking spiderman killed his brother to knowing that he didnt. that and the fact that he saw him save the city and probably the world first hand has the obvious potential to make one uncomfortable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
miles however, is entirely comfortable with talking to him, even going so far as to hug him, mitigating most, if not all, of jeffersons discomfort. now heres the thing, he doesnt know this spiderman, wedont even know if he new peters spiderman. miles has been spidey for a very short time and for most of it hes been wanted. but not only does jefferson allow himself to be hugged, he hugs back. of course from his end its sorta awkward, but still. heres another hug from them just cause i can.
Tumblr media
jefferson has always wanted to support miles, we know that from his speech in the dorm, but the way he specifically finds a way to connect with miles though graffiti is different. its fairly safe to assume that part of the reason he specifically went to graffiti is because before aaron died miles did art with him. while there isnt really any evidence jefferson knew specifically what aaron and miles got up to its not a stretch really, he and aaron did graffiti when they were younger and miles is very artistically inclined. id also like to take the time to point out how palpable the relief on their faces is during the call. just cause.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
idk where this came from tbh. father-son relationships are very specifically important to me. also this was not written in order but i did rewite the non analyzing parts. this wasnt even supposed to be an analysis but here we are :D im open to criticism btw :)

i made a post a bit ago before the reddit black out even happened, talking about how many AI written articles i find when searching for answers on stuff- usually things a little more specific (questions for video games, tech, everyday things but more specific to you, etc. not just "what city is this state in"). its bad- i basically get that or i get reddit threads when i google. and before the reddit black out, i hadnt thought too much about how those AI threads would be.... the only thing left behind if i didnt have reddit. still i watched the reddit black out live, i watched /r/funny go private at midnight. and yet it didnt really hit the importance of reddit until i went on the next day looking for help on a mac laptop i was restoring and realized all the reddits i checked were private. needing mod help for my server, all private. searching reddit for a game i couldnt remember, private.
theres a lot on the internet that needs to be preserved, kept alive, kept relevant. over and over i see people reminisce on old forums and how theyre gone and be brought back- and i think no ones follows through with the format because places like reddit at least fulfill that to some extent. staying with the mainstream is easier and its understandable, bc its relevant and trying to start up your little forum and advertise it isnt easy. Reddit being mainstream becomes the useful google option for a niche forum subject without being a lone forum you probably wont find in typical google search.
and now Reddit isn't available. the most mainstream iteration of those lovely little forums of discussion and support is not available. does it hit now? does it sink in now how bad this is? the past year- maybe even less than a year- has been so so chaotic and bad for the internet. instagram starting turning into tiktok a while back with its changes to feed and format. youtube has slowly followed suit with forcing short's as more relevant for creators than normal videos. twitter did... well, all of That, a lot of Things. Reddit goes along to make their API paid for. Discord turning to the methods on social media, with username changes and more. tumblr is also shifting so much of their entire deal, i think you should all be prepared for tumblr to become unrecognizable too because theres many hints of it happening- some already here.
when i made my personal website over a year ago, it was partially fun but it was a statement for myself too. it was recognition that social media had become unhealthy for me, and i didnt like how it was The thing that existed now, and that bigs corps suddenly taking more and more control of the web was bad and not something i wanted to be stuck with. but suddenly its not just a gentle step to the side i have taken, still knowing i can be on social media to see my friends and build an audience. but now it feels more like all the walls are crumbling around me, and soon i will have no choice but to jump ship entirely. i went from one, to the other, to tumblr where i had always been- the one site that stuck out from the others at least. had an 'old' format. in many ways you need social media.... because its how you made your friends, its how you stay in touch, its how communities get built these days!!
we can try to move back to the independent, the personal sites, the forums, but we all know its not easy. thats truth. its not going to spread as far as we'd hope, many will not follow suit or not know they can. i can only imagine all the old, tech unaware people who will continue to use the internet, never realizing why they struggle to get info or unknowingly follow nonsense AI articles, and have no idea that anything exists outside of the bubble theyre forced into. Not even the old people, but the young generations that will grow into that too and not get out of it.
im just waiting for the mainstream internet to just become entirely unusable from our perspective and its dreadful to me. trying not to be a doomer but i dont think its something you cant ignore when something as simple as googling slightly more specific questions brings nothing but AI nonsense articles or reddit posts and when one of those massive and only relevant sources is down, there is suddenly nothing.

RAnking the Shrek/Puss In Boots Movies
With the recent release of Puss in Boots the Last Wish , I was inspired to revisit a franchise I hadnt revisited in a long time.So I watched all SIX Shrek/Puss In Boots movies
For those who dont know this franchise the basic premise is this is a fairy tale world that makes fun of ,subverts and plays with fairy tale tropes .For the first four films we follow an ogre named Shrek who falls in love with a princess ,and in the last two we follow one of Shreks sidekicks ,the dashing outlaw Puss In Boots
Based on a childrens book Shrek! by William Steig (Which I have read ,and I think might have been an influence on me as a creative) the film franchise became reallly big....And then it went kinda dormant. It has a weird legacy ,where it changed animation forever ,some of it not in good ways , and it was memed to hell . So I went into this project curious what my thoughts were gonna be , I had seen all the films save for the fourth one, watched the first two ALOT in my childhood ,but I hadnt thought about the series in forever ,till this new Puss In Boots came out
Well I watched all the series in order, and here is my ranking from worst to best
Minor Spoilers going forward cause I am talking about these stories out of order
Number 6 :Shrek the Third (2007)
Tumblr media
Shrek goes on a quest to find the next heir to the throne of Far Far Away while coming to terms with the fact he is about to be a father ,meanwhile the kingdom is being taken over by an army of villains lead by Prince Charming
Yeah this might be the least surprising ranking on the list, this movie is bad ,The film has like a million ideas it wants to do and it doesnt do them well. I hate the new characters it introduce and I just cringe at multiple scenes (I say the death and funaeral of the king is the worst scene in the entire franchise ).I feel kind of bad putting it so low,as I dislike the film above it slightly more.....But the more about the Third the more I realize how BAD it is
5.Shrek Forever AFter(2010)
Tumblr media
Shrek frustrated with the changes in his life makes a deal with Rumplestiltskin to spend one carefree day being a terrifying ogre in exchange for a day from when he was a baby,.,,,Unfortunately he gave up the day he was born ,and must find a way to break the curse before he vanishes at sunrise
Tedious and dull.Look I know this movie has its fans but I am not one of them , I kind of really dislike this film and its cause I dislike Its Wonderful Life pastiches . I dont know if I laughted once while watching .I dont care about these new ogre characters we meet and I dont really care about these alternate takes on the main characters.I also admit ,I had gotten really sick of Shreks woe as me shtick cause he grumbles about his damn swamp every movie . I kept flip flopping over whether to place this or three at the bottom, cause I think, personally I dislike this more then three .That said....Its better made then three ,there more of a plot ,we have a clear goal,Rumplestiltskin is kinda fun ,the climax is good and I think Mike Meyers gives a really great performance as Shrek .I kept flip flopping over whether to place this or three at the bottom, and truth is three is worse ,I can see general audiences not having the hang ups I have .This movie isnt bad ,I just personally dont like it
4.Puss In Boots (2011)
Tumblr media
Puss teams up with his old friend Humpty Dumpty and professional thief Kitty Softpaws to steal magic beans Puss and Humpty has been after since childhood
This one is OK . I think it gives Puss much more character then he got in the previous Shrek films ,Antonio Banderas and Selma Hayak give very solid performances as Puss and Kitty rspectfully ,it had moments I found really hilarious and as its a whole its a fun action adventure story. My big problems are the last act where bifg threat is a giant goose is underwhelming and.....Look I am just gonna say it Humpty Dumptys design freaks me the hell out ,hes very unsettling to look at.Dont like his character or performance much either .Its not a bad film but its just a fun action romp and not much more
3.Shrek (2001)
Tumblr media
Shrek, joined by Donkey , reluctantly goes on a quest to save Princess Fiona in order to get a bunch of fairy tale creatures off his land
The first Shrek ,though it has aged in the 22 years since its release (God I feel old ) ,is a special film that I think is very good .I dont even consider it a family film, theres a lot of stuff that goes over kids heads in this .To me this both a buddy comedy / rom com first ,fantasy animated movie second .The main romance and moral are great ,I love the pop song soundtrack ,the voice cast consisting of Mike Meyers ,Eddie Murphy,Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow are great , theres some memorable lines ,and I like that the film is both salty and sweet ,sweet with the relationships Shrek has with Fiona and Donkey ,but salty with the satire agaianst Disney and vulgar/mean humor ,which works in this film cause its has a point .Now I do think the film can be too mean, specially with all the short jokes pointed at the villain , theres an annoying third act misunderstanding , not all the jokes land and I'm sorry the animation has aged like milk, the human characters especially look ugly .Overall though ,Shrek has become a classic, and I think it deserves to be called that
2.Shrek 2 (2004)
Tumblr media
Shrek and Fiona arrive in Far Far Away to meet Fionas parents ,not knowing that their marriage has interferred with a bargain King Harold made with the Fairy Godmother to set Fiona up with PRince Charming
Shrek 2 is a legit great movie and possibly one of the best animated comedies I have ever seen ,like I cant stress enough how friggin funny this movie is .The returning cast are all great, and we get some great new peformances by Antonio Bandera,Jennifer Saunders ,John Cleese ,Rupert Everett and Julie Andrews.Animation has held up well ,the villain is amazing, this film introduces Puss who is a ton of fun here ,the pop songs are again great.....And the film has one of the best scene in any morie:The Holding Out For A Hero scene ,the movie is worth watching just for that scene .Overall I think it just does what a sequel is supposed to do ,in that it builds on the first film, and I think surpasses it
And now we get to my favorite film in the Shrek film. And I must ask.....WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEARLESS HEROOOOO-
1.Puss In Boots the Last Wish
Tumblr media
Puss is on his last life ,and sets out on a journey to find the wishing star, however he is not the only one after it so the race is on
This is a very recent film.....And I have already watched it three times.....This might not only be my favorite film in the Shrek series,,,,,This might be my favorite Dream Works movie .....I kind of love this movie. What can I say ,I love movies about diffrent characters questing for a goal ,I love action and the action is fantastic ,and I adore good villains and we have two great villains here plus a group of very entertaining anti villains .What I really love is that it actually explores its characters ,and Puss and Kitty are given a bit of depth here .Its also the most gorgeous Shrek movie going for a more stylized look ,this might be one of my favorite animate films ever and it is definately my favorite of the Shrek/Puss In Boots series
What are your thoughts?Lets discuss this series
@autistic-prince-cinderella @themousefromfantasyland @princesssarisa @the-blue-fairie @goodanswerfoxmonster @angelixgutz @ariel-seagull-wings @marquisedemasque @amalthea9 @filmcityworld1

So it seems like everyone who has been vecna’d so far has a secret/thing they feel guilt and self-loathing over. (Chrissy bulimia, Fred the guy in the car, Max Billy, etc.) So thought experiment: who in our Scooby gang has something they’d feel GUILTY about? It doesn’t seem like to me it would be something we the audience have never been given any kind of clue over. So like I just can’t think of anything for say, Dustin - if he is harboring anything that serious, we have never been tipped off about it. Lucas either. Ericka no (not enough screen time to even say). Steve MAYBE Barb but he doesn’t seem to feel how Nancy does about that, and we already have it happening for Nancy anyway. So for me I am left with Will (ugh my poor gay son, and possible guilt about upside down connections), Mike (internalized homophobia/not being able to love El the way she wants him to? Something else? It’s so hard to know what’s going on in his head), El for her fear she’s just someone who hurts people etc etc, and Jonathan (his secret from Nancy, though it doesn’t seem quite that dire to me)…….that’s it? So 4 of them, excluding Nancy and Max who it’s already happening to. Agree? Disagree? Did I forget someone who would qualify based on what we know? (P.S. Robin also could have gay-related trauma ig but idk she seems the healthiest to me, like she is only worried about society’s perceptions rather than wrestling with accepting herself personally.)
i literally never realized chrissy’s was bulimia omg i thought she was throwing up from panicking after having a vision and her trauma was just an abusive mom wow that went right over my head.
anywho yeah i think the only other logical vecna subjects are will and mike because like you said theres not much trauma that we know of for anyone else, and i really think the audience would be aware of the trauma instead of just randomly revealing that one of them is severely suffering from something. the only way it could be something we “dont know” is mike if thats how they reveal hes gay but thats been implied so its not like that would come from no where.
i made this post talking about why i think mike is more likely be to vecna’d than will because most of wills trauma is upside down related and vecna seems to torment with more human trauma. he also tortures with guilt and shame. nancy and max both feel guilty for barb and billy and chrissy probably felt shame for her ed. i dont think will feels any shame or guilt for what he went through because its something that happened to him, not something that he did. he has severe ptsd but because he was a victim not because of guilt.
mike is completely different. he definitely feels guilt and shame from his internalized homophobia. he probably feels guilty that hes been lying to el and not breaking up with her and he feels ashamed that he loves will instead of her. hes a perfect target for vecna.
the only thing holding me back is the fact that finn said he only met jamie bower a couple times. but maybe he is cursed just not completely? like he has the visions but isnt actually greeted with vecna.
i hope its him instead of will because if its will its probably related to liking mike but we already know that. it would be so much better to make it mike. and i dont think will feels nearly as guilty for loving mike and being gay than mike does so it would make more sense.
it would be SUCH a great way to reveal it to the audience because to anybody whos like “what the hell this came outta nowhere” the vision could show flashbacks of all the moments that they missed. that unreciprocated kiss at the end of s3, “its not my fault you dont like girls”, soft moments with will like “crazy together” and the hand hold, will telling him that its scary to open up to people, not being able to tell el he loves her. it would really make them be like “oh holly shit” and they need that moment. god itd be so good i want it so bad.

okay okay i lied
i am really going to sleep after this post
i am angry at the finale
because it doesn't look like he has finally found peace
it feels like he is dissociating and SETTLING for something that won't ever make him as happy as richmond did
my step-mom described it as "it appears at surface level that ted was originally manic, and he has finally calmed down and found peace"
and i REFUSE to believe that is what happened
and is instead a RED HERRING (like the woman who was wearing all red in shots behind ted on the plane)
and why was trent waving his left hand instead of his right with everyone else during the musical sequence?
i feel like there are way too many clues, that point at this episode not making sense, for a reason
i am really hoping i am not so far deep that i am entering s4 of sherlock levels of denial
but i dunno.
maybe i just looked way too deeply into this show and provided my own meta, love, and optimism that led me to believe this show was actually being purposeful and trying to be something spectacular
and really, it just wasnt that deep
i got so used to what you think will happen not actually happening
that i am flabbergasted that they went exactly with what most shows and media do, which is to be as basic, palatable, and cowardly as possible
it was standard, it is what we always see, it was not the lasso way? you can argue it was, but to be frank, we have no reasoning or explanation for ted's decision.
so we as the audience have to piece it together like a puzzle
and the puzzle i have formed? is not one that makes sense
i am missing pieces
i am wondering why so many of us interpreted the ending of ted as being anxious and "ominous", when others saw him as "content" and "peaceful"
i dont like the implications that ted needed to be quiet and lose all the aspects about himself that made him so unique and loved at richmond.
i dont want to accept that ted needed to silent his voice and carry on alone with his kid without any love or support surrounding him
he doesn't feel like ted anymore, he feels like an object the show used to make everyone better, and once it did its job, they throw it away and try to pretend he is actually happy only with his kid
if i interpret the show the way it seems like the writers want me to, i feel horribly depressed
(i have talked for over a decade in therapy about how i enter peoples lives and help them find their way and act with intention and try to be the version of themself they want to be. and how once that person is found, they discard me, usually in pretty harsh and gut wrenching ways for me, but not them. and seeing it play out with ted helping everyone find themselves and then him leaving and being only with his kid, with no understanding as to why ted is doing this, makes me so fucking depressed. because is that going to be my life? will it never end? will i always be a placeholder for something better? constantly discarded and alone? fuck me this finale is hittin' HARD)
i know this isnt about me. and i am sure i will definitely learn something from all of this when i stop projecting
but i just...does anyone ever feel like you are being manipulated? but you have no solid evidence of it, so you feel confused as to what to do about it, and eventually you try to accept that there is no manipulation and you have to accept what was given
only to realize you WERE manipulated????
that's how i feel right now. only before you find out that your gut instincts were right. i am like waiting for the pin to drop, and it's not dropping

eurovision 2023 was a MESS
ok, since everyone is raving about kaarija shouldve won (and rightfully so), im gonna try and get a bit of appreciation for some of the acts this year who DID NOT deserve how little points they got
First of all: WILD YOUTH!
Tumblr media
ok so i really dont understand how wild youth didnt pass through the grand final and end up with a top 10 finish? because they did SO WELL ON STAGE!! their golden shower on stage looked PHENOMENAL (hint hint) and their pre-recorded backing vocals were FLAWLESSSS, especially when backstage autotune conor sang for on-stage conor when his hands got too tired to hold the mic up to his mouth!
i loved how conor was serving ‘child lost in the mall and cant find mummy’ realness with his captivating gaze and IMMENSE stage presence.. and while most acts this year stuck to serving metaphorical cunt, wild youth pulled themselves together to serve literal cunt too?!?!?! like tell me how that isnt deserving of a top 10 finish
lets take the time to mourn wild youth’s tragic deaths and move on to the next robbed act: CYPRUS
Tumblr media
someone please tell me how he got 126 points in the final??? like i didnt even realise until the results were finished that he got to where he was on the scoreboard?? and then i was hit with such deep and profound waves of sadness because HOW. HOW DID CYPRUS GET THERE?
you know what, im going to be appreciative instead of bitter because you cant break a broken heart (rip ireland), and im going to say that im so glad that this beautiful song appealed to so many voters all across europe and the rest of the world because, frankly, i was terrified for andy’s chances in the final, and i didnt grasp how many people could appreciate the niche of love-island-shirtless-man-kisses-bikini-lady-as-they-make-up-from-a-5-second-fight-with-BOOM-wiwibloggs-eque-sound-effects (as opposed to the more popular genres like latvia’s)
im so happy for you, andrew lambrou, and even though i know that you and your grippers were robbed, i just want to say i that i wish you (and your grippers) a lifetime of success, and i hope that you (and, you guessed it, your grippers) receive many more 12 points from the greek jury in the future.
moving on to another robbed act.. POLAND
Tumblr media
first of all, let me just mention how much hate blanka got, especially during the preparty season? come on guys, eurofans arent meant to be like this - we can’t just go and send so much unfounded hate on someone because what did blanca even do wrong?
im gonna try and be more positive for this one too... blancka went out there and did ONE OF THE BEST dance breaks ever in EUROVISION HISTORY - like, shes rivaling the likes of chanel and eleni
ok for those of you that dont understand, let me analyse a bit...
Blanka dances with a certain stiffness, and her movements may even be described as slightly robotic, which may, at first glance, seem like a bad thing to the untrained eye. But, the lack of fluidity is far from a lack of skill, its an act of storytelling. Blanca is nervous, she’s afraid to express herself to the fullest. She’s scared of going solo. Even though the lyrics of the song are filled with positivity and a sense of freedom, Blanka expertly reveals that she is terrified of being independent again, and I think that showing such vulnerability through her inflexible and reserved dancing to Eurovision’s immeasurably large audience is so, so beautiful.
AHEM. cough.
and after all of that, she still got paid DUST by the juries (like 12 points? really?). this here is the sole reason why the jury should be abolished, or at least reformed in eurovision. the juries are meant to vote for the objective best song and the best overall package but hello? where are blanka’s votes?
disgusting.
ok, next up is.. unfortunately, QUEEN NOA KIREL FROM ISRAEL
Tumblr media
i can’t believe she only got third place

Whats ur take on Klemper? Heres mine.
Klemper backstory- Died in the 60′s.  A lonely disabled kid(many people headcanon him to be special needs) . His parents were usually busy and none of the other kids ever wanted to play with him because of his disability and social awkwardness, didn’t help that at that time, there was a lot of stigma about those kinds of issues. One Christmas Night, the coldest year it’d ever been, when his folks were out for a party, he watched Frosty The Snowman and got the idea of making his own snowman friend to play with. He went far from his home and the town so the other kids wouldn’t try to destroy his snowman. As he was making his snowman he began to become affected by the cold conditions, to the point he even took off some of his snow clothes to give to the snowman, feeling extremely hot(some people have done this, its called paradoxical undressing I think, when experiencing hypothermia ) . He has absolutely no idea whats happening to him and isnt fully aware of whats going on, but is already quite far from home and still wants to finish his snowman. Before he could give him his hat, he fully succumbed to the cold and died that cold Christmas night. Now as a ghost he haunts, causing huge snow/ice storms, hoping to find a friend to play in the snow with him, forever.
I’m thinking of making Klemper look like a snowman. Figure it fits the snow theme as well as his backstory. I wrote him to have died in the 60’s as thats when the frosty the snowman movie came out.
So, my take on Klemper is that I don't know what to do with him.
Now, I know what I'd want to do with him, just not how.
Like, we all know that Klemper is portrayed in a way that coded him as high support autistic or mentally disabled. And the show uses that to make fun of him. That's bad.
If I were writing a reboot, I would want Klemper to be portrayed very carefully and want the narrative to treat him with empathy and understanding.
So another thing about autistic representation is that when we're not portrayed as emotionless assholes, the other popular portrayal is the savant who is exceptionally skilled in a specific area. An example is the Good Doctor.
Now, savants are fine, but when they're the most prevalent representation that explicitly autistic, it feels like it's saying that we should treat autistic people well because they have a skill that will allow them to contribute to society that will "make up" the cost of dealing with them. (Even though most autistics aren't savants.)
Implying that whether or not a disabled person should get care and the accommodations they need is somehow tied to "whether they can be productive members of society." That's also bad. Disabled people deserve care, accommodations, empathy, and understanding because of their inherent worth as human beings. As people.
So for Klemper, I wouldn't want him to be revealed to be a savant that somehow "makes up" for his difficulty communicating and high support needs. Klemper deserves kindness and love and care because of his inherent worth as a sentient being, not because he can be "useful."
But I don't know how I would write that. He's a ghost that died of hypothermia and his obsession is making friends because he wasn't able to have friends when he was alive. I don't know where to go from there.
Now your take on how he died is just wonderfully and hauntingly tragic. I loved it. I can see it as the cold open for Klemper's first episode. No explanation of how it's related to the show. Just make the audience watch a kid die in part thanks to the neglect and abuse of the people around him. Beautiful.

🧿🕯️💥!!! (@stabbyfoxandrew's main)
omg HOW DID I NOT REALIZE YOU WERE YOU... this makes so much sense hahahha. ty for ur ask!!
🧿what steps do you take to not take things personally if a fic doesn't do well, or if your writing/posting/sharing experience isn't going how you'd like it to?
ok i talk a big game abt writing for myself and ITS TRUE but im also a sensitive baby. and tbh what actually happens most often is that i get IRATE when people leave comments that i feel bridge too far into feedback that i dont want to hear -- and i don't want to hear it bc the damage is already done! like, i published the thing, i wiped my hands of it, i don't want to hear anything bad abt it because i learned what i wanted to learn from it and i want to be happy with it as it stands. DONT TELL ME if you're not happy i dont careeee!!! hahaha. so basically it's a lot of me giving myself that exact lecture & remembering why i shouldnt care abt negative feedback.
in terms of "not doing well" i can usually clock when something wont do the numbers on AO3, and i don't really mind it. my fics with the most hits etc are not the ones im most proud of, but i totally get why theyre the ones w those stats -- theyre simple, accessible, and quick. and you know what ?? im glad ppl are getting on ao3 and just kinda reading & resting. i also read a lot of fics just to escape into something easy. and so if a fic isnt doing well statistically, but im proud of it, im usually pretty good at reminding myself why most people go to ao3, and why the thing that ive written doesnt really align with that.
🕯️how do you think engaging with each other through tumblr, twitter, comments, kudos, creates healthy fandom experiences? How do you deal with that if you're not a social person/experience social anxiety?
well first off i am lucky in that i am not shy at all hahaha. clearly i love talking to people/talking about my wriitng. i think all of this is fun!! im actually really bad at taking compliments, so i dont reply to many ao3 comments unless ppl are opening a conversation somehow. but i love asking questions and answering questions and all the fun sharing we do. i think a lot about writing original fiction, and the main thing that holds me back is that its just SO FUN to share characters. im such an Andrew Minyard Enjoyer, and whenever i write him, i feel like im in conversation with everyone else who loves him and writes him and reads him! and that's such an incredible experience.
💥find your least kudos'd fic - say something wonderful about it.
this is a cute one omg. my least kudosed fic is a Simon Snow/Shepard Love fic, which makes sense, because the audience for them as a true romantic pairing is VERY small haha. closer to the sun is one of the coolest things ive written tho, tbh. i think i did something fun with the dragon lore with the series, and i also gave Shepard a lot of my own personal experiences/skills as he went dragon hunting. there's also dragon fliritng. and dragon sex! idk man LOL it's really weird for a fanfic, i know this, but i think it's pretty good FICTION? theyre pretty removed from the canon in this, i was just kinda doing my own thing.

Seeing Stars rewrite
Notes: Scrap M&M plot. Make them stay behind to handle Loonas job as a receptionist bc Loona can track Ocatvia so she, Blitzo, and Stolas are useful as a group of 3. When Stolas shows up and is panicking, Loona takes video of it finding it funny and Moxxie tells her to cut it out but she doesn't listen to him. Let Blitzo mention replacing her bc Millie and Moxxie tell him to but Loona is rightfully upset Blitzo says this because he doesn't understand why shes so upset with being told to just act nicer. This can be because clients that show up are actually incredibly rude and when they get home it turns out Loona is doing a far better job than the M&Ms think. These are people who just died and a surprising amount of clients refuse to understand they have to be able to pay and that IMP doesn't take hits on other demons in hell. Or bc Blitzo isnt specifying enough what be nice means because its vague.
When Blitzo and Stolas are cut off from Loons despite the strain to their relationship Stolas asks whats wrong because Blitzo seems more upset than he was when they last interacted. Blitzo says "i just don't get what Loona's problem is." And when Stolas hears this he doesn't understand, but he says "she should know you only mean the best for her right?" And blitzo says "sometimes she feels like more trouble than she worth." We then cut to Loona who while looking for Octavia passes by a animal shelter. She has a brief flashback of being being brought in one of them for the first times. But shakes it off. She doesnt have Octavia's sinstigram [why would she]. But she is able to ask around because people think she's pretty. And gets more of an idea where Octavia went since the scent is pretty muddied with everything going on between cars spilled alcohol and piss on the sidewalks. She almost wishes Blitzo didn't adopt her because this wouldn't be her job or problem
Back at the sitcom plot we see Blitzo getting ready like prior. Cut stolas flirting. Just make him tell Blitzo to act like when he used to in the circus. The small teleprompter bit works alright though imo maybe he actually pulls it off believably Cut back to Loona and while shes looking around for Octavia and orders food from a stand (hotdog one likely but idk whats calis thing) and a stray dog steals it from her. This prompts a flashback to when she was in the pound and the hellhounds she was kept with stole food from her until she had enough and actually fought with them resulting in the bite that left a mark on her ear. Potentially if there's time show this was an adoption day and this means a bunch of families saw her do this. Meaning she was put in the back of the shelter. Cut back to Blitzo. The pug peed on the couch and hes considering giving the dog away and like normal this is when we get the flashback from Blitzo. Painting the rest of the picture. Loona hasn't been adopted inawhile and the lady who worked there tells Blitzo shes "more trouble than shes worth. Nobody knows whats wrong with her and always gives her back. You'll probably be the same." He really feels bad for her over this. And because the pug is meant to parallel how many times shes scared away clients despite Blitzo telling her not to he actually goes off script. Saying "No. No I-...look you guys seem nice but...I can't just give up on my daught- dog like that. Adopting means you sign up for whatever comes in the package. We don't always anticipate every issue but be it scaring people or...peeing on the couch, its my responsibility to try to find out whats wrong and fix it. What kind of a dad am I if I give up on someone the moment the need me?" The audience is cued to "aww" and while Stolas is moved we see someone in the background recording this. The live episode is over and Blitzo is praised for his improvised acting because "we thought you were gonna ruin the entire script but to make a touching speech about looking out for family and comparing your pet to a child? We are SO going to get greenlit for another season!" And this is when blitzo uses this moment to slip away with Stolas. We have Loona finally find Octavia. Its when Via starts talking abt her dad that Loona opens up a video on a youtube knockoff. (Doomtube?) and sees Blitzo's speech because shes wasnt initially interested in listening to Octavia and sees Blitzos speech was recorded by an audience member she watches out of curiosity before she goes back to listening to Octavia by the time she says "he probably doesn't even know I'm gone" and Loona has a light bulb moment. She pulls out the video she took of Stolas freaking out over her being missing and says "this guy doesn't even know you're gone?" (It is a key note Stolas should mention "i need you to drop everything i dont care about Stella right now I need to find my daughter!") Which makes Octavias eyes start watering because here it is shes seeing exactly what she wanted to see. Stolas caring about her more than he hates Stella. when Loona says her thing about how Blitzo and Stolas arent perfect but try she pulls out her lighter with the note of Blitzo saying he loves her.
When they go back down to the ground and Blitzo and Stolas finally find them both, Blitzo hugs Loona promising he'd never get rid of her and he never specified how she could be nicer but hes willing to work with her every step of the way to make sure they're on the same page. Loona doesnt like the hug. But she tolerates it because she saw what he said about her. Stolas apologizes to Octavia saying he should've paid more attention and it wasn't right of him to get so caught up in fighting with Stella he forgot what it was even for. (As in he forgot this was all to look out for Octavia who Stella just wants custody of to make Stolas miserable more than look out for her) (Worth noting i think the M&Ms only get one cut to them if at all and thats a classic Blitzo: im sure they can handle Loona's job how hard can it be? And we cut to them panicking over being yelled at through the phone and not being able to keep track of files early on in episode but I don't think there's a ton of time so prob scrap that its very optional) While Octavia's sad they wont see the star tonight they have a moment of "what whats that sound?" And see fireworks go off that look a lot like the star described earlier. (As in perhaps for goetia like Stolas who cant even dress in modern clothes this is what was actually being described with the star. Demons who visit the human world know what fireworks are. Its just of course stolas wouldn't! He even dresses out of date! And i really doubt he interacts with many other demons to be fully up to date on human advances. I mean even sunglasses were enough of a novelty for him to grab and run off with yet not even wear over his eyes suggesting he thinks theyre meant to push your hair back as opposed to shielding your eyes. We then get one more flash back. Where as Loona is crying in her cage facing away from the door (I don't think youd call it enclosure) she hears footsteps and looks to see Blitzo. Who sits in front of the bars and says something like "Hi I'm Blitzo. Do you have a favorite Balloon animal? Im not very good at it but i can spend all day trying if you want." Its light hearted and funny enough to make her laugh a bit and maybe we get a pull out shot of her coming over to sit by him and talk though we don't hear what they say bc its not really needed. Its also a bit of a subtle connection to how Blitzo didn't care if Loona was considered difficult. He was willing to try. And that's something that set him a part from everyone who gave up on Loona prior. Goes without saying but at the start of the episode their fight shouldn't get physical. Keep it to a verbal thing

About the “Seven Episodes = it's ok for there to be small amounts of world building and character development” excuse for Helluva Boss: Part TWO.
The first time, we went big, but now, we’re going even bigger! Because now’s the time for a review of the entire first season of the Vivziepop series, Helluva Boss!
Tumblr media
So, let’s get started!
For comparison:
Here is Big Hero Six, a film with a story that’s a similar amount of minutes, next to one hour and fifty minutes long.
Tumblr media
In the first few minutes minutes, alone, we learn that:
Its a city that has both Japanese and English elements, specifically that of Tokyo and San Francisco combined (Cool huh?)
This is a science fiction world that takes place within a future where humanity benefits from advanced robotic technology.
(In less than ten minutes!) It is shown that there are certain laws when it comes to robotics, particularly that robot fighting is, in fact, illegal, this isn’t even just said either since we see why this is the case in only the first few minutes.
We get to know about the main character’s flaws and characteristic, who his loved ones are (how both him and his brother have an enthusiasm in robotics, that they like to play with each other teasingly, that the main’s older brother wishes for him to have a better life/education since he feels that since he graduated high school at only 14 (indicating that he’s a wisecracking super genius robot enthusiast) he has much of potential at the college for robotics within their city.)
He gets legitimate consequences for his actions (robot fighting being illegal) only 5 minutes and a few seconds into the movie by being thrown into prison. Though he’s implied to be bailed out, this still presents that there are consequences to his actions.
Hiro starts to develop 13:24 minutes into the movie when he’s introduced to Robert Callaghan who inspires him to enroll into the college that his brother is in, aka character progression.
Sounds like a good start, aint it?
We receive world basics, we get to know Hiro and his relationship with his brother, the main character’s passions and hobbies, his flaws, various characteristics, and even the main deurotagonist, Baymax, is introduced, the others being introduced in a group with thier passions foreshadowing what their abilities will be later on in the movie, along with thier personality traits and even hobbies.
I know some comments might to say (if there are any, this blog is super underrated lmao!):
“But its disney, of course its well written!”
“But its a movie, aren’t the stories bigger there, shows dont introduce that much!”
“Movies and Shows are different :/ ”
To answer your “likely” concerns:
Even if shows and movies exist as separate entities, a story is a story, a show just has it told in halves while a movie has it in one hour long or longer video instead of several. For either one, they still has a flow and order to each section, and the basics are still given to us, the audience, in the first five to ten minutes. They don’t feel empty and the basics don’t feel nonexistent, instead we are given exactly what the universe mainly is, how it’s citizen’s function, and several main characters with both their personalities, hobbies, and even their career (college.), all in the span of less than thirty minutes! Even if the world building isnt much in the first half, the world still feels full of life, the characters feel human (or at least full of personality), and we see Hiro (the main) progress through time.
So what does this mean for Helluva Boss?
Well, let’s see how each story “contributes” to the main story (Blitzo’s difficulties in his career, and his relationship with Stolas and the trouble it brings.) and see whether said story still holds up after two and a half years, along with a review of the franchise as a whole.Yes, this is a review of the entire series thus far, so remember to bring snacks and some liquids because this is going to be a very long review.
(SIDE NOTE: It’s not just the amount of things in the story that counts, it's the quality of them, so take this to account as you read this analysis of different episodes.)
IT’S TIME.
This time: I'm making this review a game!
But first… Da Rulez
I’ll call this… The Helluva Boss Counterama!
Where you count each area of the story you feel contributes to it, or not. (Side Note: Best experienced if watching the episode and reading along (pause when needed), even more so if you’re able to find things on your own along with it! 👍)
Plot Contribution counter: If it contributes to character understanding or anything having to do with the main plot of the story. (IMP’s relationship with Stolas and the book, and development of IMP’s business success)
World Building: Speaks for itself.
Time wasted counter: How much time is wasted on pointless filler that contributes nothing to the story.
Another thing: Quality counts!
So just because it contributes, doesn’t make it a “good thing”, just that it… exists.
But enough dilly dallying, time for the game!
First, we begin our story with none other than good ol’ Helluva Boss episode one!
Helluva Boss: Murder Family.
In this episode we learn that:
Theres a flashback/Narration, except instead of being focused on introducing the world or the main characters, its for some random (and abusive) character that we’re probably never going to see again. Despite the fact that intros are called “intros” for a reason, they take several minutes to introduce something that has nothing to do with the main characters or plot in the first place. (SIDE NOTE: This list is to only focus on the main series, and even if its good to criticize it as it’s own entity, the pilot is not a part of the main series and therefore, like for any other franchise, is basically no longer canon, thank you.) two whole minutes wasted already… (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Two Minutes.)
We learn that Blitzo is an asshole (Ok…)
We get ANOTHER monologue about Martha, and though this is meant to be mostly episodic, again, the story still (mostly) exists, and if anything, the episodic of Helluva aspect handicapped the franchise since it caused much time to be focused more on the story of a bunch of clients we don’t care about that have nothing to do with the story rather than that of the main characters/villains of the entire series.
Another monologue for another minute of a half (oh my god just get to the plot already! 😂) of more Martha angst. (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Three Minutes.) When this could have been used to introduce Hell, what life is like for Imps, anything, but instead the story (of multiple episodes in fact.) is wasted on both the clients and random side characters.
We are then introduced to Mooxie (aka the true main character of Helluva Boss /joke) who is shown to have a moral conflict (character vs. self.) about murder, his family and friends trying to convince him otherwise, we are shown that he has second thoughts about harming children, but his wife just wants him to get the job done, while his coworker Loona is also conflict, but tries to convince herself that its “ok” by assuming that the family is bad since theyre from Earth. (Already, much more character and plot going on for Mooxie despite him being the deuro, and not pro, but be aware, as this isnt the last time that you’ll see this pattern.) (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Two Minutes.)
Five minutes in, we get some few second exposition about the book being their access to the living world? Alright, alright we’re getting somewhere… hopefully. (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: A few seconds, which doesnt do much but, alrighty then.)
We also now know that Blitzo is an asshole while also being physically abusive to Mooxie, and they played it off as a joke! Wow… (This is definitely not going to bite the story in the rump later, our “to root for” protagonist everybody!)
We are then introduced to the fact that imps are weaker than humans, which doesn’t make much sense since theyre shown later to be the complete opposite *smacks lips* but! The counter’s always right, so i’ll count this one.
Eight Whole Minutes in, we are finally introduced to the third most important character of the story, Stolas. Him attempting to sexually comment on Blitzo to him while he’s in the middle of a dangerous mission and injured. Saying things like “my little imp!” (basically a demon version of “my pet!”, a way of talking down to someone as if they’re to he treated with less equality and respect than you.) and being very creepy towards him overall. Blitz looking extremely uncomfortable with the situation, most of the “plot” so far being the main cast either being awful, boderline abusive, or ok (mediocre.) like Millie or Loona, and despite being the “world building” show of the franchise, we still know nothing about this version of Hell besides them being jerks (no, really?) and the city is extremely red. Not a good start…
Episode Two: LOO LOO LAND.
First we learn that Stolas loves and cares for his daughter, to the point where he sings a song to calm her down at night (Aw… maybe he ain’t that bad! Maybe.) while his wife is too exhausted to help. So, that introduces more about a character, an actually decent contribution! (PLOT CONTRIBUTION: But since this only counts minutes and not seconds: We’re still at only three minutes even for a whole episode now having passed.)
His wife (after a time skip) finds out that he’s cheating on her, and as expected, becomes enraged at the fact that he would do such a thing when they have a child right there. And though her reaction is still extremely aggressive (Couldn’t they have just waited till their daughter went back to her bedroom? The poor kid is acting more mature than half of this cast, but even for that, suffers the worst besides Mooxie. Damn, and I thought my parent’s divorce period was awful.) (Plot Contribution Counter: Four Minutes (Counting how many we have for all episodes together, not just a single one.)
Stolas, as a attempt to make up for the ordeal, offers take his daughter for a amusement park day, Octavia reluctantly agreeing, not long before sexually harassing someone on the phone right in front of his kid (told you that Stolas’s creepy factor wasnt over yet.) and then asking Blitzo to protect him and his daughter since Hell is a extremely dangerous place and royalty is considered to be valuable in price. (WORLD BUILDING: Three Minutes, PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Seven Minutes.)
We then see them screwing around at the amuestment park with: Stolas sexually harassing Blitz (again!), and Millie giving some dialogue about how her parents used to take her there which is… nice? But why have this as exposition isnt going to do anything for the episode? Also, child cruelty *snaps fingers* nice one Viv. They then show a flashback of Octavia hating Robofizz which, could have led to something, but it doesnt since she doesnt interact with him in the season once? So it counts. (TIME WASTING COUNTER: Six Minutes.)
Now, we learn that Mammon, the prince of Greed is greedy, but also extremely cheap despite how the lack of quality is clearly making him less money seeing how empty the place is, there’s barely anyone here lmao! We’re also introduced to Robofizz, who Blitzo seems to have beef with for some reason, who sings a random song about how great LooLoo land is while Octavia, nearly exhausted by everyone antics and barely getting to spend time with her Dad, let alone talk to him, is just waiting in agony for the song to be over. While we just see Mooxie spending time with Millie (Cute, but wasnt this Octavia’s episode? 🤔) and… we dont even get to see Fizz’s whole song is just… ends. 😐. So thats about it for the past five or so minutes. (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Ten Minutes.
(SIDE NOTE: There is nothing wrong with filler. Its used to make time, catch up to Manga (in Anime), and can contribute tons to world building, relationships and character development when chosen wisely.) The issue is that much of the filler in Helluva Boss has nothing to do with the most important relationships, anything having to do with the world building besides random neon signs in town and the occasional unrelated background character that “introduces” a species that ends up having nothing to do with the plot (and even if their the main thing we see in the background, we don't even know the species titles any of them!) while the rest of said world ends up being almost entirely empty, and never progress the characters besides random inconsistencies (the trip scene in ep 6 and a scene coming up in ep 7, and Mooxie learning the same lesson over and over again.) that end up meaning nothing to most of the plot anyway. The problem is not that it’s filler, its that it’s useless filler that does nothing for the plot.)
Then Blitzo fights Robo Fizz, which could have been something for the plot, but since it has nothing to do with the main plot it counts for both counters. PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Ten Minutes. But then Robo Fizz just dies immediately after he was introduced. The flashback? Him implying that he knows Blitzo, yup, entirely pointless. TIME WASTED COUNTER: Fifteen Minutes.)
In the middle of this, we finally get a scene where we get somewhere. Octavia, after running away into a tunnel and her father finding her there, telling her Dad that she’s afraid of her leaving her, he then comforts her saying that his relationship with his wife is “complicated” and that he’ll “never” run away with Blitzo. And though, this scene is quite heartwarming, it never addresses the fact that Stolas is cheating on her mother and how she feels about that (That feeling of betrayal knowing that your parents don’t genuinely love each other, that fear that your family will never be together as a family again (even being divorced and still seeing together is still divorced, never addressed.) all done deliberately so the audience wont pay attention to the fact that her father is cheating on her mother and also being creepy right in front of her. It doesnt feel like a representation of what it’s like to be afraid that your parents will seperate or that your father is doing things that make you uncomfortable (the cheating, the father’s overall behavior.), aka the full experience of having a father tearing apart a family and causing them to feel less trusting of each other than ever before. So for how many things it does well, since this is a Hazbin series we’re talking about, much more is a disorganized mess. (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER. Twelve Minutes.)
And then after all that at the end Stolas and his daughter walk home while I.M.P just… exists. Causing myself to wonder why they were even there to begin with.
What a disaster… next episode!
Episode 3: Spring Broken.
One Minute in, and we get a whoooooole lot of slut shaming, honestly, what’s with shows like this constantly insulting anyone who frequently has sex/likes it or is a sex worker? I mean yeah, she’s a succubi, but knowing anything about the study of demons them liking sex is the last thing you should be worried about. (They fuck people to literal death.) Not really some having to do with the counter, just wanted to post this out real quick for those in the back.
After that… (and a few seconds of Loona marvelling at Verosika (which implies she likes pop stars, not much else really happens here but it's just one minute in, so i’ll let it slide.)
So one minute in, we now understand that Hell is categorized into “Rings”/worlds. What do these rings do for their world? (Why are they certain sins if there's no sinners to punish there? What function do they serve besides being theme parks with neon lights everywhere (economics? species? how they contribute to our understanding of how this world and its leaders affect their people?) or How do they contribute to the plot in any way (The assasination thing? (Which I mind you isn't even a developing plot, just an episodic show premise. Blitzo’s relationship with Stolas?) Who knows…. (WORLD BUILDING: Five Minutes since its mentioned in this minute more than once.)
Another whole minute of mostly ableism and things they've already addressed. Next!
Within minute three, we learn that Loona likes guys, and that she sort of considers Blitzo as her dad (or at least in denial about it.) Do we still know anything besides these small details, not much, but I'll be patient considering that this is her first episode as not just being something thrown into the background… (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Thirteen Minutes.)
The next minute, we are shown more Mooxie torture in the form of…. oh god, this is so fucked im not even going to mention that one. 🤢 But after this Blitzo decides to defend Mooxie, rather hypocritically saying that they shouldn't be “shitty to his employees'' (wasted opportunity for a “that’s my job!” joke but, alrighty then.) while simultaneously not even mentioning what Verosika did wrong and being shitty towards Mooxie all the time so it doesn't really do much for his character here? But it does show that he has limits to “how” Mooxie is verbally or physically abused? So… I guess that’s something. (PLOT CONTRIBUTION: Fourteen Minutes.)
(Also, am I the only one finding Blitzo’s voice to be extremely grating in this episode, he sounds so strained and forced it’s like a chainsaw to the ears. Just a personal thing, but still decided to mention it here in case anyone else feels the same way.)
We then get an entire episode of them challenging each other, which would be a nice filler episode, but so far all we’ve gotten are filler episodes with barely any contribution to anything so here it just feels unearned. But for the sake of the game being fair, I'll keep the counter up for now. So for that… seven whole minutes added to this pointless “challenge aspect” of the episode since it gets in the way of the plot in a series where there’s enough pointless filler to fill a dam. (TIME WASTING COUNTER: Twenty Two Minutes.)
For one minute, we discover that demons can shapeshift for whatever purpose… but for some reason imps cant? Here’s the worst part about this: THE ENTIRE PREMISE OF IMPS IS THAT THEY ARE A “CLEVER”” SHAPE SHIFTING SPECIES THAT SERVES HIGHER BEINGS AND CAUSES MISCHIEF!!! https://mythology.net/demons/imp/ (this also being listed in multiple sources) Are you seriously telling me that despite being “well researched” as someone who’s “passionate” in demon studies that Vivziepop couldn't even try to make Imps even close to accurate to their lore counterparts despite this being a show “based” on demonology? Because if I were to be honest, much of the “demonology” here (deep apologies for the harsher language here) is pulled straight out the ass! It's like she searched up a few seconds of “small demons are called” and went with the first thing she saw. Why even use imps, an actual demon species, if you’re not going to do anything with them besides “le demon aesthetic looks nice with my demon show! :3”, why even have real types of demons at all?!! The demon world building feels so half assed/under-researched and depends on the audience’s assumptions about the story through headcannons or knowing anything about demons to be the world building for Hazbin Instead of you know… doing your job as the writer to provide crucial info about the world of your franchise yourself, not on random (quite boring) streams, but in the show where your universe takes place that the lore is for, to begin with! Not even the background characters do anything besides stand there, so its not like their species do anything for the lore either since we dont even know what they do or how they expand upon our understanding of this world, which makes them just headcanon bait if anything. I know this is more of a rant here, but this just goes to show how much laziness is shoved into the writing of this franchise. Dear god… (World Building: still only six goddamn minutes out of thirty six!)
Blitzo then has an argument with Loona about how he adopted her and bla bla bla this has nothing to do with the main plot and- let’s, let's just end this already this episode is just dragging its feet in filler cement now, but since this is a character moment, I guess this counts? (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Fifteen Minutes.)
Next up…
Helluva Boss Episode 4: “CHERUB.”
Aka: What has been known by even the non-critical (or the part that is willing to give criticism at all.) fandom as the absolute worst part of the entire series.
Here we go…
Already, Cletus’s voice is the fucking worst, its not even the voice actor’s fault (let’s face it, it almost never is.) but instead if the awful direction likeley given by Vivziepop herself.
Another fast paced brain numbing jingle, one that goes on for far too long than deserving, ugh…
Also, more gore dependent slop, so might as well add this to the tally since this scene doesn't even actually introduce heaven, its just an excuse to have a song just because, which wouldn't be a problem if this didn't do absolutely nothing for the series even for being the first time we actually see we see Heaven in the entire franchise, aaaaaaaaaaaand being grating on the ears and pure sensory overload on top of it. GOD this is already starting to get painful and we haven't even passed the 30 second mark.
Blitzo then shoots the tv, taking us out of our misery (for the time being). Thanks, Blitzo! That’s the one thing you did that put a unironic smile on my face! 🙃
They then show us more tv for some reason? Why? For that ending scene that was just there to fill time? We were just shown a tv watching scene, but this is a Hell channel so it makes actual sense… sorta? But then why did they have Heaven tv channels on?! I thought that this culture hated things involving angels since they kill “many'' people within their population every year? Wouldn't it influence their children to do more good, something most demon parents would hate in this universe? Didnt Katy Killjoy say that most of Hell didn't like things involving good people? Already, this is fucking with the lore already, how the fuck did this get past the planning stage?!
Normally, tv scenes in shows and movies give more insight on the viewpoint on the culture from this world that’s focused on the most or includes a fun scene involving the main characters making a fool of themselves on tv, but here’s just “haha betty boop with big titties haha edgy!”, more gore filler, and a bunch of time wasting slop that does nothing for the episode since the cherubs are given an introduction later on that fits much better with the premise than this.
We are then given another client, and- wait- another client episode?! Didn't they just do this? The season has only a few episodes, surely, they could have used this limited amount of time to add more creative stories to the mix, or only put one filler ep but have every other episode contributing to the story and characters as much as possible with the budget they have to keep the story of the season from feeling too limited, or worse, incomplete? We barely know anything about these characters, let alone Hell, shouldn't they have used this time to develop something, anything, worth of value to the story? But that would be asking “too much” of the writers, so moving on then… (TIME WASTED: Twenty Three Minutes.)
Another thing: How do Hell quakes “not happen” they are on AN AREA OF LAND THAT SPLITS BECAUSE OF VOLCANIC MATTER BENEATH THE GROUND! Sudden splits in the ground cause the floor to shake, which causes earthquakes! We saw that they have lava beneath them that splits the ground in Pride within Hazbin Hotel’s pilot, how do you forget your own lore like that?! What kind of- wha- I- oh my god…
Also, fat shaming (“Stop getting hysterical fatty!” said by Loona while she was shaking Mooxie, and he’s not even fat, so the show is just calling him “fat” as an insult just because he’s a size over a literal stick. Which makes the avocado “diet food” scene in the pilot now put an awful taste in my mouth.) Mooxie torture in the same scene. Wasn't Vivziepop’s goal to be as “progressive” to her audience as possible, why would she let herself or Brandon Rodgers put fat shaming (the act of shaming people for not being a literal stick figure.) into the episode? So is this a “Brand Pride Month” sort of “progressive” where they only do it certain times for clout but treat us like shit anywhere else or actually progressive outside of that one time that they hired a trans voice actress? Because even if Brandon is the writer, Vivziepop decides what is allowed in her series or not, so if she allows fat shaming, that just means that she is 100% ok with it. This just makes all the caricatures in Hazbin Hotel 50% worse, because her letting something this severe slide shows that this is all just to look progressive to other marginalized groups, not to be progressive for other marginalized groups. Of course, Vivziepop did not acknowledge or apologize for this, because that would take swallowing her pride and admitting to her fandom that she messed up on something, and we can't have that! /j
ANOTHER pointless character introduction for a client instead of focusing on the main characters! Wasn't there a certain owl guy who’s on the brink of divorce because of how shitty he is to his wife and kid (yes, being a creep to someone in front of your kid is still being shitty and being nice sometimes doesn't excuse you constantly traumatizing them everywhere else, who knew?)
“I am eccentric and must therefore do eccentric shit!” This is parody levels of bad, not even “this is something I actually found funny and is not me mocking those who see this as a legitimate joke!” kind of writing. Not to be rude but... Were they drunk while writing this? I'm not even saying this to make fun of them, this is a serious question. How do you unironically write something this bad while sober?! It takes skill to write this badly, and not in a good way…
“Shut up dear furry!” The only thing that almost brought me a chuckle.
Millie is watching her husband fucking die and not doing anything about it? Ok then! 🫠
You know what, fuck it, this entire episode is a waste of time since it does nothing for the plot, nothing for the characters, and was just used to fill time because the writers decided to get lazy with the story again. (Note: Heaven could have been introduced in Hazbin Hotel instead and nothing about the world would change, so it truly is just a waste of time.) Just for that, fifteen minutes added, no hesitation! (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Thirty Eight Minutes.)
Mooxie saying “That’s kind of hot!” When Loopty suggests violence, wasn't Mooxie against unreasonable killing of someone else? Again, it’s starting to feel like they didn't even create an outline since everything keeps feeling either empty plot-wise or heavily inconsistent.
Why are they wearing disguises??????
THEY’RE IMPS! A demon that shapeshifts, the very thing the show says that they cant do? It could be comedic irony, but with how the mythology here has almost no thought put into it, I sincerely doubt it, otherwise Vivziepop would have confirmed that she at least knows something about imps already seeing how she is on her Twitter. Why make them an actual demon species if you’re not going to feature anything about them?! The only thing we saw was just them being fire resilient, the one feature that takes the least amount of thought to include. You might as well have just made them a completely original species, but that would take more thought than to use one people already know about, and that’s not Hazbin appropriate! /j As someone who likes mythology myself, seeing it constantly being disrespected as a representation of multiple real-life cultures (The disrespect towards the jewish faith with Lilith, the shit with Alastor, and Stolas just being nothing like his counterpart besides “Ooooo magic and star aesthetic!”) and nothing unique about this interpretation in any way whatsoever.) makes this at times genuinely painful to watch. What were they thinking?!
Of course, they make the humans absolute morons, making what’s to happen within the future all the more jarring and inconsistent. (Don't conspiracy theorists exist, why are DHORKS (what is this? a 80s saturday morning cartoon?) the only ones who can even tell slightly that they are demons?! In the pilot they just didn't care, but at least that made more sense than whatever the Hell this is!) the only ones who seem to acknowledge that demons exist, they are not aliens, and christians exist in this universe so… why?)
The rest of the episode just being them trying to convince a old man to commit s@@@ and instead of just finishing the job, torturing him so they can have a chance to shit talk the cherubs for being, well, cherubs. The “angels vs. demons.” plot, except it was bashed into the ground with an uncreative sledgehammer. It all just feels awful and meanspirited, even for this show’s standards, which is probably why even the rest of the fandom (even those who harass us for criticizing the show) felt disheartened by this horrible episode. No wonder, the writers just got lazy here and wanted a reason to not properly introduce the angels in Hazbin, because that would take actual effort to do. It's lazy writing, which just makes the episode all the more worse.
There's then the infamous plot-ruining moment with the cherubs being taken out of heaven for a mistake that wasn't even their fault. And if they are that harsh (and also quite hypocritical) there's no way that redemption in Hazbin Hotel could work in the story now that this was introduced. The one thing that the fandom was the most excited about, now reduced to nothing but a plothole because now it will make absolutely no sense no matter how many people defend this one. The fact that Vivziepop actually READ the script, out loud, while voicing one of the characters, and still thought that this was a good idea making this all the more bizarre, and even sad since it ruined a potentially interesting premise for a series because the writer didn't want to put the effort into a simple double check.
This entire episode is pain all over, and it's almost over, so time to just skip to the best one since I am not tolerating any more of this shit for the life of me.
So… onto the next episode!
Episode 5: The Harvest Moon Festival.
Of course, it starts out with Stolas having had sex with Blitzo, because this show suuuuuuure loves to talk about/show that.
Stolas explains that he needs the book for “The Harvest Moon festival” a festival that takes place in the Wrath ring. (arguably the most interesting one, but only for one small detail.).
Stolas then continues to be creepy as all shit, which is to be (unfortunately) expected at this point.
But since this is plot related, I'm adding to the counter this time. (PLOT CONTRIBUTING COUNTER: Fifteen.)
We are then introduced to Millie’s parents (Ah, a character introduction that actually makes sense with the plot, thank god!) and we even get some really good info about how angelic weapon warfare is well known in Hell and that her parents were in war themselves at one point. Finally, filler actually being used for a reason, and since its for a minute and most of a half, I'm going to count both of them! :D (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER; Seventeen Minutes. WORLD BUILDING: Eight Minutes.)
Also, they introduce… Striker. The greatest character introduction in the series (so far) since he actually is a character who affects the plot! Wow, only took them five episodes of mostly filler that does nothing for anything about this rushed mess of a story, he’s also voiced by Norman Reedus (woah!), so that’s cool.
The “booooooyfreind!” and “the look” still being forced ship bait as it always is in spite of Blitz having no liking (or hell, even chemistry since they’ve wasted the past two episodes on basically nothing!) of Stolas. Also, he threatened to physically harm Millie in front of Mooxie and her parents, and they did pretty much nothing about it, that’s nice to know! /j 😀
Wait, “not many imps start businesses on their own.” Why? They're not shown to be poor here (that shit costs btw) and many in this series are shown to have well of lives. So what is Striker even talking about here?
Oh, a conte- oh god we’re just going to get more useless filler that has nothing to do with the characters or story, aren't we? This could be just me, but the finale takes place in the house, so it's not like they needed to go anywhere else when it comes to progressing the plot since it's not mentioned anywhere again. Mooxie gets the same thing happening to him (the pig) twice (the contest) and the second time nothing changes besides Blitzo feeling a bit “bad” for him for being shit talked and beaten around the same way he does to him. It makes no sense and introduces nothing that makes sense for either the characters or story. So why couldn't they have met Striker at the festival instead? Huh? This was for “festival fun!” reasons instead of bodyguard reasons (in that case, why are they at the house for so long, wasn't the purpose of them being here to guard Stolas?), so there was legit no point for these scenes to exist. (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Forty Minutes, yes, even the Blitzo scene counts since we already know that he “feels bad” about Mooxie being bullied by another person, only to bully him, sexually harass him in a earlier scene because “gay men being harasss funni and hot!” according to this franchise, and outright abuse him in many others. So it still counts nonetheless.)
Not for the counter, but for a few seconds they have a “your only for benefitting us and our riches!” scene with Stolas telling them that he sees them as below him. And I know that some fan is going to say “but he can change!” But does that excuse what is happening now, no, so don't even try me with that “but my ship!” blather, already heard it a million times. 😑
Striker then finds Mooxie next to his weapon at the house and starts attacking him, which wouldn't have happened if they would just have done their jo- oh forget it! We also get a sweet moment with Millie, just to get another “Mooxie being stupid or suddenly weaker for plot convience.” scene. God this franchise hates consistency, doesn't it? But, its plot related, so the counter it is! (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Ninteen.)
[four minutes] After this, we see a impressingly animated fight. Which, while tempting, does not distract from the plot issues happening here, so whatever. Striker after that, promises Blitzo that if he goes with him, that they can “kill the unkillable” aka all the overlords and leaders. (Which includes Stella, the woman who (wow, what a surprise that this series would make the wife look bad, while execusing the actions of its majority-male cast, while giving the other female characters here the depth of a toothpick. The fact that the moments that give them less consistency and depth are written by someone who is male (Brandon Rodgers) making this fact even worse. Which, I'm sure that he didn't mean ill will here, but the fact that the female writer beside him was so rose tinted with his humor because “I need my popular comedian for my show!” logic makes this situation both of their faults if anything.) and Blitzo says… no? Why? He has no reason to like Stolas, he talks down to his species and treats him like shit constantly. So why do they keep forcing this “he cares about stolas!” narrative for fanservice if it has nothing to do with anything else? But Hazbin Hotel “has” to exist somehow, but that just means that they only have the plot there exist out of what conveniently takes the least thought instead of what makes sense.
Blitzo after this whistle calls Loona, why, are they making him stupid for plot convience here too? She hasn't even had anything to motivate her to take real action here (besides to convenience the plot) since this is Loona we’re talking about here. After this, another repetitive Mooxie torture scene here to force the plot to continue here by letting Striker go for an idiotic reason. Blitzo after that, hesitates to outright kill him. Huh? What? Did he actually show feelings for him like what was sort of suggested in the earlier scene, or did they just want more ship baitting for fanartists even when Striker clearly wants to kill the man that’s his only access to his job and he no longer has a reason to like him here either since he wants to kill his “friends” and Stolas now… what?!
After this, it's revealed that: GASP! Stella was the villain all alo- oh god they’re really going for the “It’s the wife’s fault that the guy cheated for the guy, not him, she was meany villain and the male character needed an escape!” trope?
Which is another “it's the wife’s fault that he’s a bad husband!” stereotype that we’ve seen millions of times before to put down women for being mad at their husbands for cheating on them. By making it look like it’s their fault and not the men here. This was made just last year. Why are they using stereotypes that were common mostly in the past decades if this is meant to be a “progressive” show according to the creator? Hell, why did they include the fat shaming scenes in the other episode if the intention was to appeal to that crowd? What???
The episode then ends on some “ooooo pretty effects and foreshadowing!” scene, which doesn't fee deserves here since that just means that we’re going to have to “wait” who knows how long more to get anything that progresses the plot or characters since so far, Striker is the only one doing that besides a few others, otherwise, the main cast does basically nothing for the plot whenever they're by themselves, Wasting time that could be used to advance things despite being on a eight episode limit due to budget. But the counter never lies so… this all still counts. (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Twenty Three Minutes.)
So… the next episode it is!
Episode Six: Truth Seekers.
Woah, with a title like that I wonder if we’re going to discover something VERY important about the characters or world, or… its just going to be a pun for the drug that’s used to trip the shit out of Mooxie and Blitzo, wonderful…
We are they making this look like an alien discovery scene? Christians exist in this universe! If anything, they should have been caught by a crazy church group, not these random alien cia “alien life forms caught!” walking stereotype! How did they even get those shots? Many of them are places where the camera an agent has can't even reach with that amount of quality.
Also, the humans in this series are shown the dumber than a rabid squirrel, how are these humans using actual logic if they weren't really shown to before? Are there just outliers, if so, how? How can you can you make them this dumb and then have Loopty and these DHORKS (yes, I went there, you can put me on your 2012 cringe complation now.) exist in the same universe. The episode just started and it’s already starting to be annoyingly inconsistent.
Blitzo being a reckless asshole as usual until.. oh no, they’ve been captured! Whatever shall they do! 🙃
Also, why is Mooxie just now showing to like Blitz all the sudden, so the rose tint viewing fangirls/boys/people can say “look they’re bonding!” for fanservice and go “awwww” at thier “bonding song” right after Blitzo just said “SHUT YOUR DICK SUCKING LIPS MOOXIE!” And got in the way of the mission by acting like an absolute moron. WOW that doesn't feel forced in at all…But on the plus side, something’s actually happening now!, and they dont waste any time this episode since Millie and Loona contribute by trying to save them, they're captured, and DHORKS actually contribute to the story. COUNTER TIME! Wow Helluva, i'm actually sort of invested for once! Thanks! 👍 (PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Forty Five Minutes, wow, the show might actually be more worth the time than I first thought, cool!)
After, they have this song scene showing Blitzo as “a sad wittle misunderstood baby that pushes away his friends so that excuses most his actions!” (with great nice animation too, congrats team this looks awesome!) but that doesnt matter here, because at least the plot and these characters are finally going somewhere, where, I dont know, but somewhere! :D
They also have the chains to the neck scene which, is nasty for reasons that have been made clear millions of times by the fandom. So since this post is becoming basically book im just going to summarize it here: THIS IS NOT LOVE! LOVE IS ACTUAL RESPECT! THIS IS LUST MIXED WITH SOMEONE BEING TRAPPED IN A SITUATION THEY DONT WANT! STOP EXCUSING THIS OBVIOUSLY TOXIC RELATIONSHIP FOR SHIP PANDERING!
There we go, that’s better!
Now, back to the review!
Oh look, they want to be freinds, hey, maybe Blitzo might apologize here!
Wait- no- he doesnt. In fact they just saw “Look, im hard on you because I know of what you’re capable of Mox.” (The “im just doing this to teach you to be a man!” trope.) And honestly, im sick and tired of people saying this about men within the media. They Are abused, they are told that it was to make them “more of a man!” They’re r**d, theyre told that it was to make them “more of a man!” Its a incredibly toxic mentality that, because of how often it’s normalized within media, has caused people to think that men “shouldn't be vulnerable!” or have to be outright abused to make them “stronger.” What he did then wasnt even making him stronger or smarter, its just him telling him that he’ll not actually amount to anything by constantly talking down to him, mocking him (even the “pig fight” scene was just him wanting to see Mooxie fail for his own entertainment.) If anything, like all abuse, it makes the individual barley feel like they can do anything for themselves or that they won't amount to much. All that he did was make Mooxie submit instead of be an individual and stand up for himself outside of who Blitzo wants him to shit talk, barely try to do anything different. By constantly verbally or physically, and even at times sexually abusing him while his wife did nothing about it “for her job” it only caused him to let more people step on him, to barely stand up for himself unless convientent to Blitzo, being what Blitzo wanted, being his toy that he can mold into anything that he wants as shown in the earlier scene, the same way any abuser treats thier victims. Because that’s what this is, abuse, and i'm sick of this fandom sugar coating this to look like anything else. But since this may cause him to be kinder towards Mooxie in the next episode, even if rushed or for plot convenience, it’s still progression, so im still counting it here.
They get rescued, another alright fight scene happens, but look at the bright side, at least Blitzo might develop as a person slightly. MAYBE.
Next up, the last episode of this franchise that I am never going to watch, ever again, because let’s face it, im better off doing things that I mostly (or fully) enjoy for my mental health, and since I just don't like this show doing this game more than once will feel repeitive and like I said before, not good for my mental health since watching this show for prolonged amounts of time (especially without the game involved) stresses the fuck out of me and I like not being stessed a lot so… if anyone who enjoys this show more than I do wants to take it upon themselves to do this game with further episodes, @ me, and i’ll be more than glad to give your version my support by reblogging or a response, thank you!
So… now for the last episode (for me!) of the series!
Episode Seven: Ozzie’s.
Already, we get some possible foreshadowing with the alcohol activating the symbol on the book.
But as a certain other review said, why not herbs or gems since this is Stolas, a demon that heavily involves those things?
Also, they finally figured out that they could just have the mission be a side thing instead of the main plot of the episode so it can focus more on the main characters and story (how Hell affects I.M.P, their relationship with Stolas, etc.), over fifty minutes into the series, fifty!
Mooxie being a good husband, once again, what a great chap! 👍
But now… Blitzo is already goddamn talking down to Mooxie, already, and the episode just started, I can see how people don't change easily and that it takes time, but that change only happens if you try, and Blitzo aint trying here for nothin’! He’s talking down to Mooxie and not caring an inch about his personal space, not caring even an inch, and since the last episode was supposed to hint that he would try, that makes over half of episode six entirely pointless since he did not develop from there at all! He’s the same towards Millie and Mooxie 100%, not even a hint of change, getting their personal space and treating every moment as if they somehow “belong” to him and his business, instead of just being coworkers. Sad too, because the last episode was beautifully animated, but it ended up being used for nothing since over half of it did not contribute to story that the show is telling, so just for that… fuck it! TWENTY ONE (only one minute, DHORKS introduction, contributing.) minutes taken off the plot counter, and twenty one minutes added for time wasted. (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Sixty One entire minutes wasted on absolutely nothing! Even more if you count all the seconds. PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Only Twenty Four minutes.)
The fact that the fanbase has had to tolerate this much unneeded empty filler while waiting for the story or character progression to start for over sixty minutes. Oh my god- I-im so sorry, really, because no audience deserves to be told “i'm going to put much of this into my story!” and get almost nothing out of it. I don't care who calls me “entitled”, if anything, the ones who want the toxicity there are entitled because they're getting everything they want, while the rest of us get almost nothing in comparison. Vivziepop has done barely anything to make things up for the people that she’s hurt for the past three years, both those from marginalized groups who spoke out, people who have spoken about her general behavior and those who thought that she would have done more than just.. this!
So here, here’s your apology for all the toxicity and time wasted from this franchise. If Viv’s never going to do it, I might as well give you people at least a substitute because this (combined with all the toxicity from Hazbin Hotel so far.) is just not ok. If you’re plus size, you’re still beautiful and deserve respect no matter what size you are, if you are in a toxic relationship, please understand that there will always be better out there, and that it’s never too late to find someone who will truly love you. I'm so sorry that this is the experience you ended up getting for over fifty minutes of your life, that you never got anything close to what you headcanon, got nearly as much time to get to know the world or the characters you love, not even the bare minimum, especially for the “just” Helluva fans who didn't want this as a “hold over till hazbin” side thing but for it to be its own entity to enjoy, both objectively and subjectively. You deserved so much better, so much more, I'm sorry.
Now, the show must go on, so back to the review.
They didn't even try to show him developing, and as someone who’s seen much better out from even the worst of fanfic writers (since they at least try.) It's just embarrassing to watch. I get wanting an asshole main, but Blitzo has almost nothing (except for Loona, which only is 2% of the show.) likeable about him, his “asshole” parts are not even in a playful way, it's just mean spirited and at times even outright creepy. 😬
That growl Mooxie gave… is the deepest I've heard in the entire show. Mooxie is extremely pissed, reasonably so, since Blitzo is trying to basically take over his life and only what everything he does, everything he says, be what appeals to him and only him, even on their anniversary. God I miss the pilot days… at least the power imbalance wasn't an absolute trainwreck… ugh.
Of course, Millie tries to manipulate Mooxie into seeing the situation as “ok” rather than to let him defend himself. And honestly, it’s starting to make me realize how toxic their relationship is in regards to Blitzo, because she lets him hurt him, never says anything when he talks down to him, and is basically kissing his feet just because “he’s our boss!” and is even shown to enjoy Blitzo’s rampant stalking. When a relationship is not a one way street, it's about communication, honesty, and wanting the best for you and your partner.
If Millie’s just going to receive the benefits while not fully caring for her partner’s mental and physical wellbeing while mostly caring about what she gets out of the relationship and not Mooxie himself, that- that's concerningly passive, almost even in a manipulative way since she’s aware of Blitzo’s behavior but just doesn't… care, at all? Yikes…
Now, Blitzo is just fucking stalking them, Millie getting enjoyment off of it while a (trying extremly hard to ignore his boss’s behavior.) Mooxie is trying to enjoy one of the only times where he sort of does not have to deal with his wife. The episode wasting time showing him stalking them instead of focusing on the lovebirds themselves. (TIME WASTING COUNTER: Sixty Two.)
“I got something important tonight.” The fact that he says it in such a oddly sexual way while giving them “fuck me” eyes is just ugh this almost made me gag. There’s dark humor, and then there’s just being creepy or awful with what you write. Which is in fact two very different things if you were to look up anything about said type of humor, and this isnt even humor, its just the main writer being creepy here.
Some Jazz, nice, generic jazz, but i’ll take this over episode four’s music scene any day.
“Daddy?” Wow, sexual harasssment and stalking Blitzo, nice one… 🤡
“You fucking prude!” Yes Vivziepop, tell your audience that you “respect” asexual and sexual assualt victim representation while casually using language that’s used to discriminate people who refuse sex or sexual things in any context, nice one! /s 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Hey look fellas! Stolas is alone, his wife finally left him, and she took the fucking kids. (Good, hope that Octavia finds a safer place to live now that the person causing her mother to act out in front of her is at least gone, not much better, but at least more so than being with her creepy ass homewrecker father.) and now he’s eating his own words… literally, now he and his “boyfriend~!” can be awful together and Octavia will never have to see her father sex call in front of her ever again.
Octavia can finally (mostly) live in peace now. YES!!! YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Me for this entire scene: “Yes! You absolute creep! SUFFER! SUFFER- ”
But the happiness, however, just as much as anything important to this empty crevice of a story, is extremely short lived. As Blitzo plans to emotionally manipulate Stolas by going on a “date” just so he can stalk Millie and Mooxie. Not because he loves him, even an inch, but just to use his status so he can get access to where his coworkers are so he can get off to stalking them on their anniversary (without the husband’s consent.) Our protagonist everybody, the same couple you seen rooted for by the staff of the series, right here!
I almost feel bad for Stolas here, but how much they've been using each other i'm on neutral (mostly disgusted with this trainwreck of a show couple.) terms.
“YOUUUUUU BLITZY-“ What the fuck happened with his voice here?! I know it's just the direction here and not the vc, but damn said direction sounded like a seatbelt being pulled back and forth as much as possible, and not, whatever the hell they were going for here.
(In case anyone is wondering about the counter, i'm only going to use it for really important plot points now because, frankly, I just want this series review to be over already…)
Also, what the fuck is the bouncer’s vc direction here?! WHAT- what even is anything I- hdhdhfjfjjfjfjfjfjfjfjjffj!
Blitzo just continues to stalk Mooxie and Millie while Stolas at least (mom! the show’s being inconsistent for sympathy again!) sort of tries to make the date work.
Stolas already wants to get wasted to distract from Blitzo’s treatment of him, can't blame em’ for that one :/
Oh? Who is this now?
The green? The scratchy beetlejuice voice? Oh its- OH SHIT ITS THE REAL MARIO LUIGI MARIO! The reaaaaal one! THE CLOWN!
Which makes all of the Robofizz introduction…
Completley pointless! Since the real one was just going to be introduced as the actual plot contributor anyway!
Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
*screams* (Plot Contributor: Um… since its only contributions and not while they're already there unless we learn anything new (introduced things)… a minute? Twenty Five total then.)
“Not Him.” Wouldn't Fizz be on the advertisements since he’s the main attraction here? Why would he- fuck it… I don't even care anymore let’s just get onto the next scene.
(God the voice acting direction (not the vcs, they're great, the direction.) is grating in this one…)
There are imp-shark hybrids there, how is an imp being with another being so “bad” in this universe that it’s enough to embarrass even royalty? Did they even read the script before creating the other designs?
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy-
I love how the internet just fucking died here, its like not even my phone wants to witness this franchise anymore. LMAO! 😂 👍
“And the ones we sell to get you freaks off, if you know what I mean? 😉” What that- was that the writers making a “suggestive joke” about fucking CSA?! I might be overthinking this but are they talking about- holy fucking shit they are! It's not even the joke being dark or featuring a mature topic that’s the problem, it's the way that it was handled/written to be “suggestive” while referring to MINORS! At least they sort of acknowledged this as creepy with the “I have four of them!” and Fizz’s reaction, but the fact that this scene started with that joke at all coupled with the fact that said p*dophille/human trafficker gets walks off with no karma/slapstick in the series or anything. Meanwhile, we’ve seen the kids of this universe, not just Mooxie, not just implied as abused, but abused on screen multiple times, being beaten or killed as a “joke”? The children get abused, killed or physical “karma” scenes both in the background or as the main joke, but also suggested to be r*ped as a “suggestive “if you know what I mean!” line also? The children get more punishment in this series than literal p*dophilles and (if referring to Hazbin’s pilot.) real life serial killers. I know that people tend to say “Vivziepop hates kids!” as a joke in the critical fandom but now… i'm starting to have second thoughts on how she see’s children. This is actually one of the worst things that I have ever seen in a cartoon, (this is almost as bad as ep 4 with the intense creep factor with even the main characters and that’s really saying something. This scene was funny at first but now im just starting to gag again, not just at the grossnes of the guy, but mostly the grossness from how AWFUL this level of mishandling is, holy fuck!)
At least we get a nice scene where- wait- if they see imps as so “low rank” and “not deserving of respect or to be associated higher status!” how is Mooxie the opening act I- ugh…
(Took a break meditating for a bit, but now i'm back!) Aw this song from Mooxie is so sweet, Blitzo’s being a piece of shit by wincing at the anniversary song of the person he promised to be better towards (I wonder how that was because “he knows his potential in his job!” Let’s face it, he just doesn't give a shit about Mooxie outside of mostly the benefits he gives to his business. Look at the bright side though, Mooxie gets his own song yes yes very good! 👍
Side Note: This is meant to be this ultra emotional serenade, but the instrumental direction for some reason chose this “copyright free kids roblox gameplay.” direction and… alright go off I guess.
Also, what’s with Asmodeus here, did they just forget what he looks like for a few seconds? H-how-I- ok then whatever.
Oh shit- now Asmodeus is here. And his voice is FUCKING AMAZING OH MY GOD! For all the misery considered, at least they got an amazing singer for him. Also turns out, they just had Mooxie there as an excuse to laugh at imps, which is odd for business considering that most of the business in this universe is owned by imps but, whatever go off king.
Also, Millie, JUST NOW notices Mooxie being mistreated in this episode, as if its bad if it's a moment that can tarnish their reputation… but not in general as with Blitzo?
Also, yada yada “Lust likes sex!” this isn't even world building its just “Hey, look at how many demon references I can shove in here, look, its hell, look how edgy we are like, OK WE GET IT can we just get back to the A plot with Stolas already? This isn't even anything different since the culture in Pride Ring is the exact same way.
There’s truly nothing unique here to see outside of just the background designs.
Asmodeus is even just a mishmash of Blitzo’s boots and random things thrown about, his head being just random fur designs when imagine a cool ass one with three different heads, each being a type of lust? Body lust? Blood Lust?
But that would be more than just “Haha this is the sex world!” All we see here is just… different colors and neon lights? Oh boy, like that new coat of paint gives it this “whole new identity! *jazz hands*!” Hell, since this adds nothing new to how we see this universe and Asmosdeus is just theory eyecandy um… fuck it. Im just going to put this into the “time wasting” bin where it belongs. (TIME WASTED COUNTER: Sixty Seven. Yes, even the Verosika thing because it's just exposition about things we already know! Also, there didnt even need to be a song with most of this, they could have had this with no extra song but just the Mooxie part, cut the Verosika part of the episode entirely, and have Blitzo meet Asmodeus and Fizz in another way (or make the song minutes shorter, that too.) and almost nothing would change. Over half of this song is just like waving rainbow bubbles in front of a child, but once it gets in your eyes or you taste it, its pure AGONY-)
“You sold your life for a thrust!” Oh, like that’s somehow the biggest issue with what he’s doing. Yes, it's one of them, but goddamn there’s just so much more wrong that the series finds to be “cute” and “romantic” that it's beyond words, I can't even say anymore about this it’s that bad. Hell, he didn't even like Stella anymore at this point and Octavia, yes, but we didn't even witness a tragic moment of her separating from her father because instead of that, they were too lazy to write such a thing so they wasted the past half an hour on-
NOTHING!!!!!
Nothing happens, nothing worth of value ever happens in this goddamn series. Hell, it was just meant as a distraction away from Hazbin Hotel and not even really its own thing, which just makes it all the more of a waste of talent, money, and the time of MILLIONS who either wish for something more, while most fans convince themselves that it’s something more while BEGGING for more to the creators because of how truly lacking this part of the franchise has become.
Just for that- no- no more of this- NO MORE!
I'VE HAD ENOUGH!
So just for that, its for one last section before we check out of this post… forever.
The total score/conclusion:
PLOT CONTRIBUTION COUNTER: Twenty Five.
TIME WASTING COUNTER: Sixty Seven.
World Building: Eight minutes…. wow.
After all this time, know what?
Helluva Boss actually taught me something….
That no matter how much praise you get as a creator, that you should never let it get to your head. Not as a writer, or a artist, arts and crafts, hell, even porn still takes technique and expertise and isn’t just sex, everything takes skills that are acquired throughout life and takes practice to learn/keep.
But for writers in particular:
Always put your best effort. Even if it ends up being “bad.” Because at least, at least if you try, your world will never feel empty, your characters, even if badly written, wont feel like planks of wood, and your story will actually feel organized and feel like it’s going somewhere, filler or not, and if you’re lucky enough to strike gold with your works… good!
Never stop improving altogether at a certain level, never stop researching altogether at a certain level, because if you do, that cup will run dry and it will be extremely difficult to fill it back up since it takes so much time to memorize and practice these things. Surround yourself with people who care about your wellbeing, but also your improvement as a creator, as well as a person. You are your worst critic, but also your best cheerleader. Root for yourself to be the best that you can be, both with what you create, and how you treat yourself and others.
It's better to put effort and be a “bad writer”, than to be lazy and depending on your audience’s understanding of other media instead of giving your world an identity of its own through functions, civilization, and species, developing characters, and a naturally progressing story.
To depend on your audience’s headcanons to fill the blanks by giving only bits and pieces of inconsistent mush, and filling your story with pointless filler so you don't have to genuinely focus on your story. It’s laziness, and the mere fact that there are now much better creators who’s shows now will never exist because they were compared to this lazy, inconsistent, toxic disaster of a franchise and that their shows were barely given any attention, but only the comparisons to Helluva Boss were, not the show itself, its honestly heartbreaking.
It really shows the damage of trend appealing media and how vital listening to criticism truly is, otherwise you’ll either give up on putting a genuine amount of effort but be so popular that your audience will eat up everything you spit out, or you’ll end up like Butch Hartman… the literal bottom of the barrel.
This fandom deserves better, especially since by the time Hazbin Hotel is released, the other fandom who’s only here for Helluva Boss will have barely anything to grasp onto because of the creator’s brimming lack of self awareness.
It deserved a decent (not overly toxic) creator, characters who actually progress, stories that have something to tell, along with worlds that build upon themselves, brimming with life and interesting sights to see.
Hopefully Hazbin Hotel will take the reigns of this franchise and steer it towards an at least decent direction, but that just means that this disaster will likely (unfortunately) be known as “that one awful spinoff that halfway destroyed Hazbin Hotel’s premise.” and be forgotten to time, never to see the light of day outside of the life support known as it’s miniature fandom, the equivalent of stale bread molding within the outside garbage of a buffet with glitter all over it, it might look pretty, but the mold’s stench is so foul that it’s quality of what it is on the inside is absolutely horrid.
If you can stomach it: I recommend this show to average animation goers who love to see disaster shows like this for a good laugh with friends or with games such as the one above.
As otherwise, this show has barely anything going for it when watched by itself because of the husk of a franchise this series has become. Because goddamn this one was a (four whole day) ride… oh god dude.
What.
The.
FUCK.
