Spring-heeled Jack
In 1837, a frightening humanoid, bedecked in a black, leathery cape and equipped with batlike wings and pointy horns, allegedly began assaulting women in England. This rogue's myth grew into an enduring legend, with reports of sightings being quite common throughout the nineteenth century. Some people say the creature was ultimately the inspiration for Jack the Ripper and comic book characters such as Batman. Still others have noted the resemblance to the legendary Mothman, a frequent bogeyman in Victorian times.
This creature was dubbed Spring-heeled Jack, for his ability to leap great distances in a single bound, a feat testified to by many sworn eyewitnesses of the day. Even the British army became convinced that Jack was no mere urban legend when he was spotted leaping onto the rooftop of one of their sentry buildings in 1870. They tried to trap him, but to no avail.
Could Spring-heeled Jack, whoever or whatever he was, have sprung across the big pong to Kentucky? Researcher Jim Brandon tells of reports from 1880 describing a "tall and thin weirdo" that appeared out of nowhere and began a terror campaign in Old Louisville, frightening the locals and ripping the clothes from females in the streets. Eyewitnesses described his superhuman ability to escape by jumping impossible distances and springing over objects as tall as a horse-drawn carriage, leaping and climbing away to safety on rooftops. This creature was described as wearing a cape and helmet, and having an eerie glowing light emanating from his chest. The descriptions of his outfit seem to oddly match the British entities. We can also deduce that the creature appeared in outlying farms as well as downtown, because one sighting has him jumping over haystacks and completely disappearing on the other side of one.
Even stranger, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported that on July 28, 1880-the very same day that the Jack-like person began his attacks-many citizens downtown spotted a tiny open-platform craft of some sort flying through the area. It flew low enough so that they could see that it was being piloted by a seated man surrounded by machinery, which he operated with his hands and feet. It sounds quite like an autogiro-a tiny, helicopter-like modern craft often not much bigger than the pilot's seat. But this was years before the invention of said craft, and even more years before they became that compact. Perhaps this Jack also had wings to go along with his springed-heels?

Kentucky meat shower
The Kentucky Meat Shower refers to a peculiar incident that took place on March 3, 1876, in Bath County, Kentucky, USA. The event involved chunks of meat seemingly falling from the sky, mystifying the witnesses and leading to various explanations and theories.
According to contemporary reports, a sudden rain of meat occurred in a rural area near the town of Olympia Springs. The meat was described as small, reddish in color, and ranging in size from flakes to larger pieces. It was said to have covered an area of several acres.
Witnesses at the scene reported the meat to have a strange odor and texture. Some individuals even tasted it, leading to different opinions about its origin. Speculations ranged from the notion that it was a heavenly phenomenon to the idea that it was the result of vultures disgorging their contents mid-flight.
Local authorities and scientists were called in to investigate the event. One scientist, Dr. A. Mead Edwards, conducted an examination and concluded that the meat was of muscular origin, resembling either beef or mutton. He suggested that the meat shower might have been caused by a flock of vultures flying overhead and regurgitating their prey.
Despite the investigation, the exact cause of the Kentucky Meat Shower remains uncertain. The incident has become a subject of curiosity and speculation, with numerous theories proposed over the years. Some theories propose that the meat may have been carried by a strong wind from a nearby slaughterhouse, while others suggest it could have been the result of a meteorological event.
The Kentucky Meat Shower continues to captivate the imagination of those interested in unusual and unexplained phenomena. While it remains an intriguing historical event, the specific circumstances surrounding the incident remain a mystery, and it is unlikely that a definitive explanation will ever be determined.

I dont know if I'll ever get over Kentucky Route Zero. The tranquility of night, the mysterious events that unfold there. The human hum of the truck on the road, the ghosts that are infused in every scrap of the environment. The hope and the deep sorrow and the hypnotic power of the strange but comforting world. I am pushing a pontoon plane on a pitch black road. I am carried on an infinite river deep in the earth. I am retreating from an empty church that is blaring sermons for no one.

@batsarebetterthanpeople ok so: horse girl (gn) au where stede inherited his dad's prestigious equestrian academy where they trained people/horses to compete in those fancy horse shows where the horses do silly little tricks and go around doing their gay little trot. owning the business means no time to actually train horses, which is stede's true passion, so he sells the company, buys a horse (Arthur or Kind Eyes or The Revenge or Obliged To Take My Vengance), hires a jockey (jim), and decides to become a trainer for the kentucky derby
ed is a kentucky derby trainer and his horse (Queen Anne's Revenge) and jockey (izzy) have won for the past like 2-5 years in a row (never the triple win tho, au where there hasn't been a triple win in like 20 years or something). he's bored of it but stede is out here trying really weird like, bonding techniques to get his jockey to really connect with the horse and ed's fascinated by this strange man.
episode 6 bathtub breakdown equivalent is ed confessing that he's never actually ridden a horse except for one time as a kid and he's actually deathly afraid of horses. despite the fact that his entire career revolves around horses and riding horses.
calico jack knows ed from back in his rodeo days. culture clash of drunken cowboy from the rodeos and stede's fancy horse show upbringing. also turns out ed used to be a bull rider in the rodeo until he hurt his knee.
stede: i thought you'd... given up the horse riding? ed: well, technically, i rode bulls, not horses

HIIIIIII life update: im gonna be taking a bit of a hiatus from writing fanfiction for who knows how long, probably until the fixation hits again and i cant be controlled, but truthfully my job era has made me realize that i CANNOT be working retail for the rest of my life. so, ive decided to write something original and do something with it. hopefully publish it. im nervous to say that out loud because i feel like im overestimating my abilities, but ill never know until i try. im hoping to be able to build a future doing something i really genuinely love, but i REALLY gotta lock in on writing it so it. because i have a hard time actually finishing things.
i wont be posting it anywhere online because that would make getting published hard, which is the end goal, and id hate to delete it after having it up. man idk that just doesnt sit right with me. im kind of sad my feedback will be limited due to this choice, and also because i REALLY love sharing my writing and im impatient. but hopefully the end goal will be well worth it.
if anyones curious about the project im working on, feel free to ask! i would be more than happy to talk about it. im hesitant to just come out of the gate blabbering because its so left field from fanfiction and likely not what yall followed me for. i do fully intend to finish every fic ive ever started, i just gotta think about my future a little bit. get me out of retail for the love of god.
but that’s the update! if im radio silent for a while, thats what im working on. i feel weirdly guilty talking about it because i feel like im abandoning (im not actually abandoning it i prommy) stuff yall are actually interested in, in favor of something new.

A little ramble about 'weird video games' and autism :)
I just started watching Monty Zander's Control critique on yt and he talks about how the main character, Jesse, being so calm and unaffected in the face of such abject weirdness made him feel completely separated from her as a character. It made me think about how as an autistic person, it is the complete opposite for me.
I've been drawn to video games with 'strange' worlds and characters all my life, because they are not alienating to me, but rather comforting. I find myself in this world where people say gibberish and somehow everyone but me is able to understand, and things are the way they are and it's completely nonsensical yet no one seems to care. I live in this world of abject weirdness and I do not react, because it's been like this forever. That's how the world feels to me and I've never quite felt represented in that until I played games like Kentucky Route Zero or Off or Hylics, etc, etc. I like when the weirdness is just there and never commented on and I almost detest when the weirdness is explained or 'knowable'. Those worlds become more real to me than games with hours and hours of extensive world building.
Tldr: I think more games should embrace the strange and unexplainable, because the real world is strange and unexplainable, for me and my brain especially.

Gratz Park Inn
Guests of the Gratz Park Inn have often been startled by the sudden appearance of a little girl playing jacks in the hallways. The longtime employees there are by now accustomed to guests mentioning seeing a cute little girl in 1800s clothing wandering around, and then being horrified when they are told of the ghost legend.
Though the ghost stories are a significant part of what interests people in the Gratz Park Inn, depending eager to discuss the hauntings or you may not. You might just have to find out for yourself.
