fuck radiosilence/radiostatic fans fucking ruin me with the extremely relatable aroace perspective in their creative works. I don’t think I would have ever predicted genuinely getting emotional over some guy with a screen face and a guy with a fucked haircut. This is so awful why are you guys some of the most talented writers I have ever seen
How am I supposed to sleep and move on with my life after reading an aroace character realize they are different and it’s not common and find themselves mourning for that connection while detesting it outright? Fucks sake just gut me instead it would hurt less than this
when i was young, my brother taught me many skills. he always said it's good to be a jack of all trades. if i had more skills, even if he and our parents passed away, i'd still be able to support myself. // so the living must live well. whether alive or not, everyone's life has it's own meaning. some people's deaths are lighter than a feather, while some people's have greater weight than a mountain. {war of faith episode 11}
ok but the thought of the code actually glitching to break Etoiles armor hits hard though. these monsters are literally made up of code, they can glitch appearances, glitch items - of course they glitched his armor.
besides that, it's an ultimate blow to his character.
he's upheld his expectations as the islands greatest warrior, their defender. with this comes not just that responsibility, but a sort of respect for who/what he's been fighting off. the codes he's grown so used to. if he were to ever lose, he'd expect it to be from exhaustion. from being physically unable to lift himself up and fight anymore, because there would be no other way he would not stand and fight - but he loses without being given a chance to win. the code messes with Etoiles’ own player coding to unnaturally break his armor, giving a dirty death to someone who fights with duty and honor.
it wasn't fair, and that's the entire point, it was never going to be fair. like how they psychologically fucked with him using fake Pomme before, and almost won - this was never a fight to see who could win. it was a fight to ensure that he would lose. he’s reminded of something important - that he can bleed, and he can die.
this island doesn't play fair, and he can't shoulder the weight of the world on his own. a single shield will never be enough to protect a whole village. and now he's lost the actual shield, the one thing he could use to protect them all.
the loss leaves him without protection, both feeling guilty failing as the guardian of the island, and unsatisfied, because how can he say he truly got a chance to beat the challenge? there is no satisfaction in this loss, no way to come to terms with his failure, because it wasn’t done on an even playing field.
it’s hardly a consolation, knowing his loss was unnatural, unfair, because it’s a loss he could not afford. not only did he lose the shield, but he learned that there are moves that are unfair and unnatural that he can’t fight against. how’s he meant to fight something that can influence his own coding, especially without the shield that gave him the chance to fight in the first place? how’s he meant to protect the island, when he can’t protect himself?
The urge to fill the ToA tag of Ao3 with fics sharing similar tropes and characterization as the HoO fics I read in 2016 on fanfiction.net grows stronger every day.
hey danny phandom. i gotta tell you about this. you need to hear about it. because what are the odds my two longest-lasting hyperfixations collide like this.
JRWI is an absurdly powerful D&D podcast starring Slimecicle, BizlyChannel, GrizzlyPlays, and Condifiction. They are currently running two TTRPGs: Riptide, which is set in a pirate-themed ocean world called Mana and run in D&D 5E, and Prime Defenders, a futuristic teen superhero campaign set in the world of Prime and run in Mutants & Masterminds. Riptide is their free campaign (located here), and Prime Defenders is their Patreon-exclusive campaign.
Why am I telling you this? Because Prime Defenders features a character named William Wisp, played by Charlie Slimecicle, who was loosely inspired by Danny Phantom. William’s hero name is the Wisperer, and he has ghost powers granted to him by the fact that he fell off a cliff and fucking died at the ripe age of 16 and because the will-o’-the-wisps have taken a liking to him. He even has a white-haired ghost form that he can switch into, even if he doesn’t like to do so.
And I’m also telling you this because who did the Game Master, BizlyChannel, call up for the season 2 finale to do a speech for William during his lowest point yet? David Kaufman himself. As Danny fucking Phantom.
anyway I’ve been on intense critical role catchup mode for the last week bc I knew Something Very Big happened and after watching like six episodes in a week I just finished c3e91 and god. I knew it would be Something Very Big and I was expecting a PC death but like. was COMPLETELY unprepared for the way in which it happened and the emotional weight of it. what a fucking character choice. what a way to go out. what a moment. holy fucking shit.
anyway yes I hope you are all prepared for the many many FCG posts I will now be reblogging.
it’s midnight but do you ever think that the reason that there’s so much mischaracterization of nightwing among some writers and in a lot of fans is because we see dick through the lens of Bruce? Like we think he’s a little sunshine and he’s happy and he’s better than Bruce and he’s everything that justice should be and he’s the best superhero because that’s what he thinks because he knows nightwing is better than him and that dick is happier and is doing better then he ever could?
All right, whoever’s running the angst idea machine, can you turn it off? My blorbos are gonna start rioting against me for what I’m putting them through.
Obsessed with the trope of characters believing they are inhuman monsters after being told so or lied to by the world around them for so long, and eventually giving in to become the monster in retaliation.
They become devils because nobody ever gave them a choice. That is what they were condemned as from the start. They are only living up to the expectation, right? But in the end, their only ever crime was being born different.
