ive had an account for a couple years and i use this site occasionally, but it just feels like a regular, non-personal stream of content. how do i use this site n get into it and meet people

This is an interesting question. Especially in light of the new Twitter migration. Despite it not having anything to do with this blog, I want to answer it.

Come to think of it, this is probably a very common point of confusion for people. Tumblr is very different from Twitter and Instagram and Tiktok - because it doesn't force new content into your dash. You only get what you signed up for, and nothing more (unless you ask for that option.)

So in a way, Tumblr is kind of like socializing as an adult!

Meaning you need to go look for stuff - and PEOPLE! - you enjoy seeing and interacting with!

Here's a couple of ideas to help with that:

1. Tag your posts, and browse other people's tags!

Tumblr's tagging system is....................something. But it's at least ACTIVE. Meaning that on any given post, you should be able to simply look at some tags, and click on them! And then you get all recent posts WITH THAT TAG!

Enjoy pokemon? Go to the pokemon tag! Want to see what everyone is posting about the new games? Go to the Pokemon scarlet and violet tags!

What's more, if you want to consistently see things from that tag.... you can! You can just follow it. In fact, the tag page itself will often recommend you EVEN MORE TAGS.

Hell, you can even follow more blogs from the tag.

And the more you tag your posts, the easier people can find YOU and perhaps follow you for whatever you post!

2. Interact with people, and look through their blogs!

I won't pretend to know what your background is, anon, but I know many people use Twitter primarily, and Twitter kind of favors quietly following and liking posts.

It's fine to do that here, too, but you'll probably make friends faster if you follow a bunch of people and then reblog/comment on their stuff. Tumblr even has handy suggestions for other blogs if you're lost on who to follow.

I would recommend maybe taking care with WHAT you say, though, because if you leave rude or odd comments, some people will block you pretty quickly. Just use common sense. :)

Hint: If you reblog art, feel free to tag it! Heck, if you don't want to say something to the artist but feel too shy to make it an ask or a DM or a comment.... just put your feelings in the tags!

Most artists will look through the tags on their posts, which means they'll likely see your comments and feel very heartened by them.

3. Use the Stuff In Your Orbit options tumblr DOES have!

Tumblr has options for letting you see other people's Likes and follows. If you click on the little person icon at the top, and then go to settings, you can fix your dashboard preferences.

Scroll down until you see this menu:

...and turn on the first three options! That will populate your dashboard with suggestions based on the people you already do follow. It's going to be random, but probably the easiest option if you're used to other algorithmic sites.

I honestly don't remember. Months at least.

Nope.

4. What sports do you play/ have you played?

Technically? Dance/tap as a tiny thing, softball/baseball as a less tiny thing. Not very long for either because I'm not physically very gifted. I never got the hang of wakeboarding but I kept trying for while there.

Frequently.

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

If they are outwardly a nerd. I seek out my people.

7. What's your eye colour?

Blue-gray.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. I only watch scary movies if i I can laugh at them.

I'm told I'm really funny. Doesn't always translate well online, and I can't write a comedic story to save my life, but I can speak funny words, I promise.

221. No, that's not a typo.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

729,286! However there's a few collabs in there, per my spreadsheet where I obsessively track these things my *personal* wordcount for works on AO3 is 600,080 (so I guess I crossed 600k with this morning's kinktober! That's fun.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Right now it's Red, White & Royal Blue. I still have my toes in Schitt's Creek, and I've written for Happiest Season and The Last of Us on AO3 as well.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

With so much of my heart (that none is left to protest) [Red, White, & Royal Blue] - the actor AU, aka MJ Nerds Out About Shakespeare For 65,000 Words. And y'all love it, apparently 😅

We always walked a very thin line [Happiest Season] - It remains forever fascinating to me that my rage-fuelled fuck-that-ending thing I smashed out in like 3 hours after watching that film is still the most-kudosed work in the entire fandom. I guess other people shared my annoyance lol.

We were supposed to find this [Red, White, & Royal Blue] - The soulmates/solemates fic and my first fic in this fandom??? That somehow blew all my SC fics out of the water kudos-wise??? Go figure lmao.

Meet me out at the end of my rope [Schitt's Creek] - angstapalooza, my beloved.

When you care enough to send the very best [Schitt's Creek] - this being in the top five (and my second-highest SC fic) is eternally fascinating to me. A fully epistolary fic with Patrick as a greeting card writer for Hallmark?? I mean sure, it's a cute concept, but this is another one of those 'wrote it in an afternoon and y'all love it apparently' fics.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely! Sometimes I feel bad that my responses aren't always, like, enough. But I massively appreciate people taking the time to comment so I'm always gonna respond!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably the one that ends with MCD lmaooooo

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most everything I write has a happy ending, but it's probably the RWRB Actor AU? Both the end of the main story and the epilogue end on massive joy

Yeah. Particularly kink stuff (please be cool on tomorrow's y'all) but also some massively panphobic bullshit on some Schitt's Creek fics. And one or two people who have beef with me lmao. I'm liberal with my use of the 'delete comment' button haha.

It's been said about me that I might write a bit of smut from time to time, yes. (Though, contrary to my reputation, especially in SC, E-rated is actually only 37% of my total works.) The filthy-yet-tender kind. The let's-examine-where-kinks-come-from kind. The sex-positive kind. The let-people-be-horny-freaks kind.

I haven't, but I would if the right idea presented itself!

Yes! My partner in crime @ships-to-sail and I have co-written two uhhhhhh somewhat tonally different fics: The afterlife fic that was a huge treatise on grief and how the people in our lives shape us, and the one where Patrick is a snowman who comes to life complete with sparkly Twilight dildo dick. Something something range.

The Jake/Rachel series has each individual fic as a solo write, but the series is an internally consistent collaboration with @sarahlevys

And there have been a few projects where I've written a section or a chapter as part of a larger collaborative work: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Don't have one. I love a whole bunch for a whole bunch of different reasons.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Technically I guess the series is a WIP, but I honestly don't know if I'll ever get to the end of the show for kink!verse. (Never say never 😭 but right now I can't see it happening.)

16. What are your writing strengths?

Fuck off stop making me be nice about myself.

Um, character voice? Both dialogue and narration. I think I'm good at getting a handle on the way characters speak and think, and when I'm on my epistolary bullshit I tend to put a lot of thought into how they text etc as well (for fandoms where we don't see that in canon haha).

Also I'm apparently really good at making readers feel their feelings. Love y'all ❤️

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot lol. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's a reason y'all keep seeing me thank @ships-to-sail for the outline on anything with any substance.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Not opposed to it, but have a horror of google translate fail. So beyond, like, a word here or there, I wouldn't do it unless I could reach out to a fluent speaker and make sure it's right. My second language is functionally useless to me in a fandom context lol.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

HP. Fuck JKR for tainting all my memories of that time.

Are you named after anyone?

Yes, I am named after the first and most well-known succubus, Lilith. It is a common name among succubi, as I also have a great grandmother with the same name.

When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday. I've always been a crybaby. But at least it was a good cry yesterday... from someone unexpected complimenting my writing ability. 🥹

Do you have kids?

Hell no! I can't even take care of myself, let alone a kid. I'm not putting children through that.

What sports do/have you played?

Fencing... at least in University. Who doesn't want to stab people with swords? And the fencing community itself is actually really supportive and friendly. I actually met my current partner through fencing. (If you love someone, stab them with an epee) 🤺

Do you use sarcasm?

On occasion, but I don't think I use it often enough. When I was younger, I had a hard time understanding sarcasm and still struggle with it today every once in a while. It's just hard to tell sometimes whether a person is joking or being genuine/passive aggressive. When I use sarcasm, I try to go over the top with inflection to try and make it obvious I'm joking. Just want to make it easier for others.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

How they make me feel. I get this is supposed to be a physical description thing, but I usually won't pay attention to someone unless they have something that gets a reaction out of me. If they wear a shirt I like, I notice. If they successfully throw a ball of paper in the trash while yelling "Michael Jordan," I notice. If they like one of my comments online, I notice. All of those things make me feel joy and help me notice the person who did the thing. 😊

What's your eye color?

Scary movies, or happy endings?

Happy endings. Yeah, it's cliche, but I feel bad for people who don't reach a satisfying conclusion. And scary movies can be fun, but I watch them more for the story than the jump scares and grotesque aesthetics. It's great if a movie makes me uncomfortable with it's writing, but being uncomfy isn't something I like feeling.

Any talents?

None that I feel confident enough in to be deemed "Ultimate" or "Super High School Level" but I am able to write words on a page... so that's a thing, right?

Where were you born?

The American Underworld. To compare it to somewhere in the Overworld, I guess you could say I live in the Midwestern United States.

What are your hobbies?

Writing, video editing, gaming, listening to video essays, watching vtubers, reading fanfiction, daydreaming about random nonsensical things.

Do you have any pets?

Nope, never grew up with any and never felt comfortable taking care of one for the longest time. But my partner has a cat that I would protecc with my last dying breath.

I am 5' 6" which is about average female height I think?

Favorite subject in school?

Creative writing. No surprise huh? English was okay, but other students made it disruptive and teachers focused more on sentence diagrams than actual storytelling.

Dream job?

I would love to do vtubing full-time, but don't think it will ever be realistic. I wish I had more time to write and create fictional worlds. But if I can't find the words, I also wouldn't mind video editing and slicing segments in a timeline to create a story that way.

I have a tendency to read fics that horrify me for fun, and since we're on the webbed site that likes to judge people for using the Dead Dove tag, or any of the main Archive Warning tags, I'd rather not put those fics on blast. But I have read some truly brilliantly written and fucked up fics from the Fantastic Beasts fandom, that's all I'll say.

In all seriousness though, I think my big ones I can think of are Shigaraki and Dabi from BNHA. Are they both awful, ruthless people who only want to cause pain and suffering to all who have hurt them? Yes. Do I want them to keep causing even more pain and suffering, even to my favorite hero characters, as a treat? Also yes.

I hate to caveat that in no way do I think any of of their actions are justified and that the villains should win and then the world would be a better place yada yada yada but well. Woobifying villains is a thing and also why I stay out of the fandom because I cannot stand my faves being defanged like that. Let my faves be horrible people aoijdosijad.

What would accompany your picture in the Burn Book in Mean Girls?:

Either the "Mexican Asian" (I'm Filipino-American, and sadly this is a thing I was called a lot lmao) or "The Hugger." I know a shit ton of people judged me a bit in school for being a hugger because...idk, people thought hugs were weird lmao. But joke's on them, I still enjoy hugs and Mr. Seiya hugs me all the time!

Do you feel sorry for Medusa?:

Yes and no. I do feel bad the foundation of her story was be a woman killed for the glory of a man. And then to be remembered only as a horror, a monster to scare people with.

The modern interpretation of her story is absolutely fascinating to me and while it is still a tragic story, I absolutely love what she's come to represent. I love that her story has been rewritten to be a story of survival, of perseverance, of power even.

uhdgijhdkhfghudjfhgiudhfugid uhhhhhh coco i was actually so red seeing your tags, my face got too warm, like, i forget that people *read* what i write and the content of my fics is still *there* asdfghjkl

but i’m so happy that i can at least somewhat soften the image of dr. ratio to you… especially when i haven’t seen as many fics of him being nicer towards the reader as those where he’s meaner (nothing against them, it’s just probably more preferred and that’s okay hehe)

i mean, i still think he’s very strict and blunt, and probably would use sharp language in public, but i noticed in the game (at least in english translation) that his messages are more eloquent than his actual speech and he’s talking more casually with people he likes does not hate (like with aventurine, and, in comparison, he overcomplicates his sentences when speaking to people he can’t stand, like with the genius society members).

and this is why i think that he would mellow down when alone with someone he enjoys :3
