I see so many talk about RTD1 as if it looked like Season 1 for the entire duration, but it just didn't. There was a lot of trial and error in that early seasons as they figured out how to make the show and refined things as they went. In fact, they were sometimes refining so quickly that the end of Doomsday doesn't even match the start of The Runaway Bride.

Dear, our love is so star-crossed.
I haven't checked the dictionary, but Romeo & Juliet was about the power of love & being destined to be together, right?

Music Business Worldwide | April 25, 2023
[excerpt]
[..] Perhaps the most discussed driver behind vinyl’s rise in music biz circles, though, is the so-called “superfan”.
In a 2020 interview with The Times of London, Rob Crutchley of the UK music trade industry group BPI [167 articles]">BPI said “superfans” were powering a “buy-to-own rather than buy-to-listen” trend.
“A proportion of people are buying vinyl because they’re a superfan, so even if they don’t actually have a turntable they’re still keen to support the artist and have the artifact itself,” he said.
“Sometimes it can be because they’re catalog titles that are being re-pressed in a new edition — maybe a run on a different colored vinyl — other times it might be a new title that has a limited press on a certain format.
”In its 2023 report, Luminate defines superfans as “music listeners who spend above average (median) time AND money on music, actively discover new music, participate in music-related activities on social media, and plan on attending a live music event in the next 12 months.
”Three core behaviors set these ‘superfans’ apart from others, Luminate found:
First, they engage in social signaling (i.e., they want people around them to know about their passion for a particular genre or artist);
Secondly, they view music as an expression of their identity;
Thirdly, they engage in a community centered around music.
All of which suggests that the music industry could make serious money off of superfans’ love for vinyl in the coming years – regardless of whether or not they end up playing the format on a turntable.

people keep comparing the WatcherTV move to Dropout (for obvious reasons) but I cannot emphasize enough how vastly different the circumstances between the companies is. like astronomically different
• Watcher does not have the years of experience that Dropout/CollegeHumor did. CH as a company formed in 1999. They've been doing sketch comedy since the early 2000s. they were a company, like an actual company with offices and departments and everything. Watcher hasn't even existed for 5 years
• Because CH has been established for that long, not only do they have an established connection to the industry, but they have an established fan base already. People that knew about and were fans of CH for over a decade, before Dropout was even a thought in someone's head.
• When Dropout was in its infancy, CH was still under their parent company IAC, they weren't roughing it completely on their own the way that Watcher is. They were later dropped by IAC, but having that connection and funding in the vulnerable start was important
• CH was still posting sketches and skits on YouTube for free while filling out Dropout's catalog. They didn't hard shift into exclusively subscription based, they continued doing both for the first couple years in order to help get Dropout established. Even now, they still occasionally post full episodes for free on YouTube, including whole seasons of Dimension 20
• They have a large rotating cast that they move between multiple shows. They have a variety of content and a variety of entertainers to be guests on shows. Watcher has 3 guys which the occasional guest
• A big part of this transition is because Watcher's episodes have a high production cost. That's what they claim. That it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to film one episode of Ghost Files. but why?? why does it cost that much?? I get cost of travel for talent and crew but hundreds of thousands of dollars per episode?
• When IAC dropped CH and they went bankrupt in 2020, they only had 7 employees. When Sam Reich bought the company, they only had 7 employees. not twenty five. I'm not advocating for laying off people, but maybe they shouldn't be payrolling more people than they can afford
• also. Sam Reich is very vocal about how Dropout surviving and succeeding was nothing short of a miracle. They didn't get that success because the business model works, they got that success from years of networking, hard work, and pure luck

Me: oh yeah I like the idea of some romantic concepts and sometimes imagine being in a very devoted non-romantic relationship
Several random people who don’t know me: oh well you’re not aromantic then. In fact, the only way you could be is if you were actually completely unique and had no experiences in common with any other people (suggesting there can only be one aromantic person in the world)

There's a lot of transgender media where the trans girl just instantly is beautiful and perfectly passing, and while I often really enjoy those works, they're fine and well-meaning, it bothers me that it's never about the actual slow, messy process of transition.
I feel like tgirls, like myself, might (subconsciously) feel bad when they actually have to train their voice, learn to use makeup, wait for the hormones to do their job etc. Most of us can't expect a perfect transition, and seeing successful stories about how that's okay would be nice, yknow?
(not to mention some of us don't even care about looking convincingly feminine and you could argue we just need more media in which trans people refuse to adhere to gender expectations whatsoever rather than wishing to and instantly succeeding, but that aside)
Edit: Seeing more people assume this post is just complaining about media written by cis people who are uninformed, transphobic or otherwise not interested in having a realistic portrayal of a trans person, and wanted to clarify again that that is not the case. First off, a lot of the media I'm talking about is made by trans people, and second off, those stories aren't inherently bad, they're just over-saturated. I understand the wish fulfillment, because gender dysphoria is a bitch, and we feel pressured by the world around us to pass. But that's exactly why I want more realistic, positive portrayals of the actual process of figuring oneself out and transitioning, so we can fight against that pressure and help each other feel more secure, no matter how far we are into our transition, and no matter how passing we end up, or how much we choose to pass.
