Happy Wyll's Week! Day 3/7

'Magnetize (SFW BUT it gets quite suggestive): The dance scene....Do I even need to say it? From Wyll's perspective. Wyll has moves to show Aiya, and she has some to show him too. (centered around my Tav, Aiya. Elf-Dragon Sorceress)

In nature, Wyll knows that you can always find a beat; some sort of pulse to build around. Whether it be the birds, the frogs, or the sway of the wind through the trees.

But in these Shadowcursed Lands, Wyll fails to find the flow. Everything feels collapsed and silent. There is an absence of life to thump his feat to; no croaks to create a meter. The only advantage to the silence is the loudness of his own mind.

It makes it easier for him to recall a previous line-dance pattern for him to execute. The camp is asleep; he finds himself on another watch. And somehow, despite the demise around him, the inspiration to dance has flooded his limbs.

And gods is he rusty.

He knows he’s been at this for a bit, taking breaks here and there to scan the edge lines of the camp for any unwelcome surprises. But the practice dusts his ankles off and loosens his mind. He’s finding that headspace where the steps become a non-thought. Muscle memory lifts his arms and causes him to hum.

He does hear steps, but he heard them after he heard someone’s tent open. There is no threat, except the inevitable digs at his dancing in the dark.

He completes his line, then turns around to see which of his mates is going to start ribbing him. But then he sees her, and feels a prickle of embarrassment on the back of his neck.

“Uh,” he breathes out, placing his hands on his hips to appear natural. “Good Evening.”

Aiya’s warm smile is a ray of light compared to their surroundings. “Don’t mind me. You can keep going. I just needed some air.”

She waves him off, trying to make herself small. But Wyll sees an opportunity. One to, at best, have her join him. And at the least, make her laugh.

“On the contrary. It seems the dance partner I needed for the second half has just arrived.”

Her laughter flows over the campsite. He loves to hear it, and he doesn’t hear it often.

“Is that so?” she asks, stepping toward him a bit. “I’m not sure I’m accustomed to Baldurian dance.”

He meets her halfway. “I’d be happy to show you a few steps. Maybe you can show me what type of dance you are accustomed to.”

And he had not meant that in any way even close to salacious, yet somehow his voice lowered enough that it came across that way. She lifts an eyebrow, but before he can back-peddle and correct his tone, she agrees.

“Deal.”

He smiles, arms falling to his sides before bowing at the waist and slowly reaching out a hand in her direction.

“May I?”

She steps closer, and places her palm in his. “You may.”

He lifts himself, and tightens his grip on her palm before using his free hand to settle on the middle of her back.

He checks her expression to make sure this is okay; that he’s not infringing on something here. But all he sees is her golden eyes rapt with attention.

He is surprised how quickly her feet find the pattern. Maybe he shouldn’t be, but he’s never seen her dance before. Or heard her sing. He has no clue how far music reaches into her soul.

But the quickness with which she meets him, doesn’t question his turns and dips, and effortlessly lifts back up for a spin…Wyll is sure she is imbued with the most ancient language.

He finally brings her close to him; the only thing separating their fronts from touching being their clasped palms. He’s not sure when he switched from simple, partnered line-dancing to a more intimate touch, but he delights in catching her off guard for a moment as he begins to lower his stance.

She follows him, because of course she does, because she’s perfect-a quick study. And it’s quiet for a moment before he speaks.

“You’re very good,” he compliments, raising them both back up from the ground.

She shakes her head in mirth. “Thank you. You’re a good instructor. Now, my turn?”

It’s a question he’d never say no to, he thinks. She could ask him for a dance anytime.

“Please,” he answers, letting go of her hand that he’d forgotten he was holding. He puts himself in a normal standing position, waiting for her to guide him.

“Hope you can keep up,” she teases, stepping away from him a bit. “This one is for…well. You’ll see.”

What happens next is something Wyll swears he will remember for the rest of his life, however long or short that may be.

Aiya steps close to him then, extremely close. Then closer still. Her chest is barely touching his, but it is enough to make him inhale sharply.

She is looking up at him, checking that this is okay. He nods, and she smirks before moving back a step.

And hells, she starts circling him. She is trailing a finger tip across his collar bone as she goes, and when she’s behind him, it smoothes over the base of his neck, wrapping around until she’s back in front of him.

“Give me your hands,” she commands. And he follows. She accepts her palms into his, and his lips purse for a moment when she intertwines their fingers.

The next few steps are, in fact, familiar. Maybe like the story he told her, art just finds its way everywhere; through every crevice, in every culture.

It gets very unfamiliar soon after. She slides a sandaled foot between his, prompting him to stay still. She lifts his arm over her head, twirls herself, then-

“Oh,” he pushes out unintentionally. Because her back is pressed to his front, his chin near the high slopes of her ears.

“Okay?” she asks, staring straight ahead.

“Yes,” he answers, too much breath to it.

“Good. Give me your hands.”

He hadn’t noticed that her little stunt had caused his hands to hover around her mid-air. Unsure what to do. He hasn’t…this isn’t-

She guides him, gently placing one hand on her hip by-the-fucking-hells, and the other on her waist.

Then, it seems the rest of the line is to just sway.

He feels like such a dolt right now, barely keeping himself from trembling behind his woman.

“Alright?” She checks again.

“Yes,” he answers, eyes also staring ahead over the top of her silver braid. “You? Are you…okay?”

He feels her laugh more than hears it. “Yes.”

“So,” he begins, because he can’t let it be too quiet here. He just can’t. She’ll notice the pace of his breaths, the shake in his hands, and the pounding of his heart if he doesn’t distract her right now. “This dance, who is this dance for?”

Plan failed. Because there was a crack in his voice, highly noticeable and enough to make his face even warmer than it already is.

She takes a deep breath and exhales slowly. “Take a wild guess.”

And he can’t do this. She is a woman of action, yes he has noticed. But that this is the way she chooses to let him know she is interested is unfair. It’s unfair because it will make him pass out. Unfair because he’s unsure how deep her interest runs; if it’s the same as his. If she’ll dance with him like this again.

He thinks if she turned around right now and told him ‘Wyll Ravengard, I care for you, deeply,’ with tears in her eyes, he would be less shocked than what she is choosing to do right now.

This isn’t a Baldurian dance. And this isn’t a fancy soirée. His father isn’t in the corner, trying not to smile at him spinning the other young noble ladies around. There is no quartet. No polished marble floors reflecting suits and dresses.

This is two adults, touching each other, breathing each other in. There is no music except the beat of their hearts; no crowd to awe and coo. No envious whispers.

This is a beautiful, unreal person pressed against him. Against this body, in particular. One no one has touched, because who would want to? He does not look the same; he doesn’t even feel the same in his skin. And sure, she was so kind as to call him handsome the night of the Tiefling party, but he assumed she was just trying to be nice.

She cant possibly-

“For partners,” he answers. No question in his tone, but enough breath there to betray that he’s still nervous.

“Yes,” she responds quietly. “Just like yours was.”

He swallows. “I thought you said you weren’t accustomed to Baldurian dances.”

She moves her head against his chest, like she’s settling there. “And yet, locking eyes with me while you lower me to the ground; there’s but one way to interpret that.”

He closes his eyes and sighs. Caught.

“Exactly,” she finishes, knowing his sigh was one of defeat.

She unlaces herself from him then, turning around and meeting his eyes.

He’s only read about things like this. Sure, he has pressed his lips to another’s. He has slow danced. He has done more. But he doesn’t think he’s ever had anyone look at him quite like this. Perhaps he had been too young to see it then; perhaps it hadn’t existed.

But from what he’s read, and from what he’s seen, there’s something in particular he’s supposed to do now; as she looks at him like that. And there’s not a single crack in her expression that insinuates otherwise.

Her lips look soft, and he confirms it by closing his eyes and pressing his to hers. It’s one, long press, not any deeper. And no other movement except for when they disconnect and he moves back.

The urge to move in again, to kiss her again, is right there. Just like she is. Just like her mouth is. And as he looks her in the eyes again, he knows he’s not the only one feeling this pull.

Her expression deepens then; darkens. And despite him being the novice in this whole scenario, he also knows what she’s looking at him like that for. There’s something in particular he could do now, a few things he could do, actually.

He feels like he’s pulled something taught and snapped it as he pulls away from her. He takes a step back for good measure. He does not forget his manners, and he raises her hand to his mouth. He kisses it gently, not looking her in the eye.

“Thank you,” he says, voice thick. “For dancing with me.”

He’s looking at their feet, feeling all out of sorts.

“Anytime,” she answers.

He channels enough brain power to say something poetic about resting their heads to bring the ‘morrow. She hums in agreement, and he backs away a few more steps, finally letting go of her hand.

But he dares to glance up to look at her once more. Her expression has lightened a bit, but he can still see the yearning there. He understands, because he doesn’t want to leave either.

But it was for the best. She’s given him a lot to think about. He knew he had feelings for her. He hasn’t exactly been hiding that. Others have teased him for it. But he had no clue of knowing if she reciprocated those until tonight.

If he was a different man, despite all the men he’s been thus far, he would have stayed. Danced with her more. Kissed her deeper. Let his hands roam. Abandoned his watch and followed her back to her tent. And let her show him more dances; more of her music. And he’d be a perfect student.

But he’s still a man who puts duty over self, and tradition over impulse, most of the time. Despite the ticking time bomb of both his mind and soul. It felt wrong to separate from her, but that’s because she’s the right person. And now that he knows that, he desperately wants to court her properly. As much as he can, as much as time will allow. He’s swapped and abandoned so much of his honor already. But he can honor this. He can dedicate himself to building something with her with the same passion as he dedicates to cleaning the Sword Coast, protecting Baldur’s Gate, and freeing himself of this tadpole.

Because he believes the things most worth it are worth fighting for.

In fact, don’t plan any events starting sundown the night before. Please, if you can, take a moment to read and share this because I feel like I'm screaming underwater.

NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) stigma is rampant right now, and seems to be getting progressively worse. Everyone is using it as a buzzword in the worst ways possible, spreading misinformation and hatred against a real disorder.

I could go on a long time about how this happened, why it's factually incorrect (and what the disorder actually IS), why it's harmful, and the changes I'd like to see. But to keep this concise, I'll simply link to a few posts under the cut for further reading.

The point of this post is a plea. Please help stop the spread of stigma. Even in mental health communities, even around others with personality disorders, in neurodivergent "safe" spaces, other communities I thought people would be supportive in (e.g. trans support groups, progressive spaces in general), it keeps coming up. So I'm willing to bet that a lot of people on this site need to see this.

Because it's so hard to exist in this world.

My disorder already makes me feel as if I'm worthless and unlovable, like there's something inherently wrong and damaged about me. And it's so much harder to fight that and heal when my daily life consists of:

Laughing and spending time with my friends, doing my utmost best to connect and stay present and focused on them, trying to let my guards down and be real and believe I'm lovable- when suddenly they throw out the word "narcissist" to describe horrible people or someone they hate, or the conversation turns to how evil "people with narcissistic personality disorder" are. (Seriously, you don't know which of your friends might have NPD and feels like shit when you say those things & now knows that you'd hate them if you knew.)

Trying to look up "mental health positivity for people with npd", "mental health positivity cluster bs", only to find a) none of that, and b) more of the same old vile shit that makes me feel terrible about myself.

Having a hard time (which is constant at this point) and trying to look up resources for myself, only to again, find the same stigma. And no resources.

Not having any clue how to help myself, because even the mental health field is spitting so much vitriol at people with DISORDERS (who they're supposed to be helping!) that there's no solid research or therapy programs for people like me.

Losing close friends when they find out, despite us having had a good relationship before, and them KNOWING me and knowing that I'm not like the trending image of pwNPD. Because now they only see me through the lens of stigma and misinformation.

Hearing the same stigma come up literally wherever I go. Clubs. Meetings. Any online space. At the bus stop. At the mall. At a restaurant. At work. Buzzword of the year that everyone loooves loudly throwing around with their friends or over the phone. Feels awesome for me, makes my day so much better/s

I could go on for a long time, but I'm scared no one will read/rb this if it gets too much longer.

So please. Stop using the word "narcissist" as a synonym for "abusive".

Stop bringing up people you hate who you believe to have NPD because of a stigmatizing article full of misinformation whenever someone with actual NPD opens their mouth. (Imagine if people did that with any other disorder! "Hey, I'm autistic." "Oh... my old roommate screamed at me whenever I made noise around him, and didn't understand my needs, which seems like sensory overload and difficulty with social cues. He was definitely autistic. But as long as you're self-aware and always restraining your innate desire to be an abusive asshole, you're okay I guess, maybe." ...See how offensive and ignorant that is?)

Stop preventing healthcare for people with a disorder just because it's trendy to use us as a scapegoat.

100% - 100 percent white

109 or 110 - A reference to the 109 countries that have expelled, in whole or in part, their Jewish populations. 110 refers to the hope that more countries will do so, usually specifically the United States. Often posted on its own as a reply, or phrased as a question (e.g. "If you were kicked out of 109 bars it's probably our fault")

1290 - A reference to the Edict of Expulsion of 1290, which expelled the Jewish population of England

13/50 or 13/52 or 13/90 - The supposed statistic that Black Americans make up 13% of the population yet commit 50% or 52% of violent crime, or 90% of interracial violence. Often posted on its own as a reply

14 - The Fourteen Words, a Neo-Nazi slogan

14/23 - A number representing the Southern Brotherhood, an Alabama prison gang

1488 - A combination of the Fourteen Words and Heil Hitler

C18 - Combat 18, a British neo-Nazi group

18 - The letters A (1) and H (8), standing for Adolf Hitler

21-2-12 - The Letters U (21), B (2), and 12 (L), standing for Union, Brotherhood, and Loyalty, the slogan of the Unforgiven, a Florida prison gang

Cohencidence - A portmanteau of Cohen (a common Jewish last name) and coincidence. Used to refer to Jewish control (e.g. "All these companies are owned by Jews! What a Cohencidence!")

COORS - "Comerades of Our Racial Struggle"

Cultural Marxism - A conspiracy theory that Jews are intentionally weakening "Western values" in order to make countries like the United States more susceptible to communism. This was called Cultural Bolshevism in Nazi Germany

Da Shoah or Muh Shoah or Muh Holocaust - A mockery of the Holocaust

Day of the Rope - A day referenced in neo-Nazi book The Turner Diaries when all race traitors will be hanged

Reject Modernity, Embrace Tradition - A fascist slogan warning against social progress and calling for a return to a prelapsarian (usually ethnocentric) paradise

Rubbing Hands - A reference to an antisemitic charicature called "The Happy Merchant"

"Great!" Danny says, clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention. The dinner table falls silent as everyone looks towards him. It's a full house today and, honestly, Danny's a little nervous. "I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today."

"It's dinnertime. In our house." Duke mutters, while doing a very bad job of concealing his yawn. He holds his fork poised over the braised beef, but, just like everyone else, still looks towards Danny before tucking in. It's intriguing enough to wait.

"Yeah, no one misses Alfie's dinner." Dick says, with a brilliant smile that Danny can't help but return.

"Precisely! What better time to talk to you all than when you're all actually here!"

"Wait, I thought you came round to work on our English essays?" Tim asks, blinking owlishly.

"I'm afraid I've lured you here under false pretences, Tim."

"This is where I live."

"I would still really appreciate help on that essay though, I mean, what the hell is Hamlet even about? I just don't get that old time-y language, like 'Hark! A ghost hath killed me!' - absolute rubbish, what does that even mean?"

"The ghost never kills anyone in Hamlet, he's there to tell Hamlet that he was murdered. Have you actually read it?"

"No, but it sounds like you have. Tim, I want this guy to help me with my essay instead. I know for a fact that you haven't read Hamlet, either."

"So? We don't need Jason, I've read the Sparknotes."

"Hamlet, along with a number of other classics, was banned in our house because it portrayed ghosts as intelligent and sympathetic beings rather than evil, animalistic beasts. I didn’t even get to see The Muppet's Christmas Carol until last year with Tim! It was surprisingly good, and I hate Christmas because everyone always argued and it sucked. But we're getting off topic. I—"

"No, no, please go back to that, because what the fu—"

"Boys, please." Bruce interrupts, looking to the world as if he wants to hang his head in his hands. "Danny, you were about to say something?"

"Oh, yeah, Mr. Wayne! Thanks!"

"Please, call me Bruce."

"Well, that very succinctly brings me to my point, because I'd actually really like to call you dad."

Nobody says a word. Nobody even blinks, all as shocked as the other, watching open-mouthed as Danny pulls his laptop out from beside his chair. Bruce can definitely feel a headache coming on.

"Before you say anything, I've prepared a 69 slide PowerPoint presentation on why you, Bruce Wayne, should adopt me, Danny Last-Name-Pending. Please save your questions, comments, and verdict until the end, thank you."
