Nice to Mate You Jaune

Mama Arc: Honey, look. My friend Summer and her daughters is coming over to visit. Say hi to them.

Jaune: Oh hi. Mrs. Summers nice to meet you.

Summer: Well hi to you too. (He is so handsome 😍) You must be the famous Jaune Arc I keep hearing about. I want to introduce you to my two daughter.

The blonde is the oldest. Her name is Yang.

Yang: What's up, and nice to meet a fellow Blondie. *shakes hand*

Jaune: Nice to meet you too... (Don't look down at her chest.)

Yang: You know it's okay to stare...

Summer: And my youngest and definitely the cutest. Ruby!

Ruby: 👀 Staring silently at Jaune 👀

Summer: I'm sorry. She's a bit shy and as you clearly see she takes after her mother. She's a wolf faunus like me.

Jaune: I can see that. Nice to meet you Ruby and your mother is right you really are cute...

Ruby: (He thinks I'm cute🥰)

*wags her fluffy bushy tail*

Summer: *sniff around* (Oh Ruby, you're so adorable. First time meeting a cute boy and you're already thinking about mating with him. You're letting out so much pheromone if any wolf faunus around they will tackle you to the ground and forcibly mate with you.)

Jaune, now that we fully introduced ourselves. How about you show us where your father is?

Jaune: Oh, of course he is usually at his study. Come on I'll show you around.

Ruby: *hugs Jaune's arm* I-I'm sorry... *blush*

Jaune: I-it's okay. *blush*

Yang: Looks like someone like you. 🤭

Summer: I'm sorry Jaune, but can you let Ruby hold you like that for a while?

Jaune: Yes! O-of course. Ruby you can hold me as much as you want.

Ruby:

Summer: See. I told you that my Ruby will be perfect for your Jaune.

Mama Arc: Oh my Oum. You're right sum-sum they're so cute together. Hey, you think she's okay with giving us grandchildren?

Summer: *sniffs again* Oh, I don't think it would be a problem. (Damn Ruby, you're practically signaling to the whole town you want to mate... And you swaying your hip like you want to be violently bred doesn't help. At this rate you going to end up giving me grandchildren before the night is over.)

Arc Family's Study

Mama Arc: Honey. I brought Summer and the rest of her family.

Papa Arc: Ah so nice to meet you again Summer. To bad your husband can't join us.

Summer: Oh you know how Tai is. He's just overprotective when it's comes to Ruby.

Papa Arc: Then how did he take it. This arrangement of ours?

Summer: Eh.... 😬

Papa Arc: That Bad?

Summer: He threatened to kill the entire Arc family's bloodline if we go through with this.

Papa Arc: Ha, ha. Oh. I say let him try not the first time anyone tried to kill us. But seeing all of you are here. So how did you managed to convince him?

Summer: Let's just say I had help from a little bird.

Rose-Xiaolong's house. 🏠

Tai: Let me out of here!!! My beautiful daughter is about to be stolen from me!

Qrow: Melodramatic much? Ruby just going to a matchmaking date with the Arc's family brat. It's not like she's going to get hitched right away.

Tai: Shut up traitor! You don't know that. My daughter is so incredibly cute and beautiful. Any boy would immediately propose to her on sight. Heck I would if she wasn't mine!

Qrow: Okay... I didn't need to know that. *takes a swig* Oh I should have brought something stronger.

Back to the Arc's family residence

Papa Arc: No doubt it must be hard to convince him. And I believe we haven't been introduced yet, little lady.

Yang: Yang's the name and puntification is my game. Nice to meet you Mr. Arc and thank you for letting us inside your lovely home. Don't mind me I'm just chaperoning my cute little sister. But I guess she doesn't need me now with you around, right Blondie?*poke*

Jaune: *clear throat* I'm not sure how I supposed to feel about that. But Dad I want to introduce you to Ruby.

Ruby: ..... *hugs Jaune tighter*

Papa Arc: So this cute lil cub is Ruby I keep hearing about? Nice to meet you little girl.

Ruby: .....

Summer: *psst* Ruby say something.... Oh my Oum...

Ruby: ....

Summer: (Oh no she's gone into heat. I gotta do something before she pounced on Jaune. But what to do? Oh darn it. Desperate times call for desperate measure.) Hey Jaune, try calling her a good girl.

Jaune: Calling her what?

Summer: Good girl. Now do it. It's what I do to "calm" her down. And don't forget to rub her head while you do it.

Jaune: Uh, okay... *rubs her head* Good girl, Ruby you're such a good girl.

Ruby: 🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇 *fell down on the floor*

Jaune: Oh no, Ruby are you okay?!

Ruby: *glomp Jaune*

Jaune: *blush* Wow. I guess you're okay now...

Ruby: I am, when I'm with you... *rest on Jaune's chest*

Jaune: Take as much time as you want Ruby. I'm not going anywhere....

Ruby: *rubs her scent all over Jaune*

Jaune: Ruby. Did you smell something?

Ruby: (It's my musk. It means I'm ready to mate with you.) No Jaune I didn't smell anything.

Jaune: I see. It smells nice though.

Mama Arc: Aww... See Honey. I told you that Ruby girl is perfect for our boy.

Papa Arc: Well there is no doubt that Ruby is perfect for Jaune, but I have to reject Ruby's engagement with Jaune.

*record scratch*

Summer: WHAT!!!

Mama Arc: Honey... Please tell me the reason why you don't want Ruby for our son? *twitchy eyes*

Papa Arc: Well, just look at her hips. *grabs Ruby her hips and shake her around*

She can maybe give around 2-3 children Max. Not to mention her small hips means pregnancy can be especially difficult.

Ruby: *pained howl*

Jaune: Stop it dad, you're hurting her!

Summer: You reject my darling Ruby just because she has a small hips *resisting the urge to kill*

Papa Arc: I'm afraid so. But it's not that I don't like Ruby. Not at all. But she's not the right fit for my Jaune. (in more ways than one)

Summer: I'll kill you!!!

Mama Arc: Wait stop sum-sum he's my husband!

Summer: Let me at 'im! He dare make up an obvious lie just because he doesn't want his son to be with Ruby.

Mama Arc: It's not a lie Sum. It's the truth. An Arc especially a male heir are expected to have as many children as he can. For that they make sure to pair him up with the most suitable woman.

Summer: Wait, doesn't that mean you too?

Mama Arc: Yes I'm afraid so. Me and my husband's marriage were arranged. by our own parents. That's why I wanted Jaune to at least have a choice in choosing his own partner. And why I want it to be the daughter of my best friend. That's why I made that promise with you all those years ago.

Jaune: Wait, Mom what promise are you guys talking about?

Mama Arc: *sigh* It's going to be a surprise but I guess the wolf is out of the bag now... It's a promise your mom and Ruby's mom make that if we have both have children we're going to set them up with each other. To you know. To deepen our friendship and our family's bond.

Jaune: *gasp* Ruby! Did you know about this?!

Ruby: N-no. My mom told that I would meet a boy and if I like him. I can ask him to be my mate...

Jaune: Do you want me to be your mate?

Ruby: *nods*

Jaune: I'm honored, thank you for choosing me. *rubs her head*

Ruby: *purr*

Summer: OMG OTP. Arc! You better let my Ruby have your boy!

Papa Arc: Sorry Summer but the answer is no. And an Arc never go back on their promise... But how about your other daughter?

Summer: You mean Yang?

Papa Arc: She's perfect to be an Arc's Bride don't you think?

*pick up and shakes Yang around*

This the golden ratio of Birthing Hips. Just look at her, she can pump out a dozen or more kids without any difficulty. (Not to mention she can probably take Jaune's full length, Sorry Sum, but I'm doing this for Ruby's sake too.)

Yang: What?

Summer: You have got to be kidding. I wanted Ruby x Jaune. Just look at them they're clearly perfect with each other.

Papa Arc: I can't deny that. They do look rather good with each other. But remember I had an arranged marriage. And I love my wife very much. Maybe Yang and Jaune can come to love one another too. Look at it this way you both can still keep your promise together by marrying Jaune to Yang. (And this way I won't be responsible if Jaune split Ruby in half.)

Summer: But my ship?...

Yang: Uh look. It's not that I think that Jaune isn't good looking at all. But I don't want to steal Jaune away from my sister... (And I don't like the way she is looking at me right now.)

Ruby: *growl* (Mate about to be stolen. Must kill potential rival.)

Jaune: Ruby why are you growling like that. You're not thinking about killing your own sister so you can have me all for yourself right? Because I will be very cross with you if you do.

Ruby:

No of course not Jaune, what makes you think that. (Note to self. Make sure it looks like an accident.)

Yang: Wow relax sis. I'm not gonna steal yo' man.

Ruby: (You better not😠)

Yang: Besides we are not "pearfect"🍐 for each other.

Jaune: You could say we're not "meat" 🥩 to be...

Yang: Gods I want you inside me right now, so you can put your babies inside me... Oh crap.

Ruby charged forward at full speed.

Jaune: What the hell?!

Before the helpless rabbit faunus could do anything he was rammed and thrown to the ground as he was attacked by soft lips that kept kissing him.

Knightfall, another Cinderella story?

Well, this was inevitable to happen eventually. I am running out of Joan of Arc Knightfall theories, so might as well jump over to Cinderella theory. I even did Rhodopis theory before proper Cinderella one. Oh well, either way let's get to it.

CINDER ELLA:

Unless you are extremely daft, it should come as no surprise that Cinder's primary literary influence is Cinderella. If you didn't figure it out from her veryyy subtle name reference, her backstory from Volume 8 should be dead giveaway.

Although her backstory is extremely on the nose Cinderella story, I'll mostly avoid talking about it. Her backstory is basically Cinderella story with tragic ending, but it is also finished story. Cinderella doesn't get to the ball and ends up murdering everyone, the end. After the conclusion of her backstory, Cinder somehow ended up finding Salem and started a new Cinderella story.

Does this make any sense? I'd say yes, story getting repeated with different conclusion is not unheard of in RWBY. Take Ruby for example, her story is endlessly repeating Red Riding Hood story with different characters playing the role of Wolf (Beowulf from her backstory, Cinder, Hound, and probably Summer Rose later on).

Tragic conclusion of one story doesn't mean all others will be tragic as well. As seen with Ruby, she managed to fend off both Cinder and Hound, but was unable to save people "devoured" by them (in Hound's case I mean silver eyed Faunus inside of him, not Oscar). However, I find it very unlikely Ruby will always be unable to save people from Wolf, she will eventually be able to triumph. Nothing concrete, but I'd say failure in first Cinderella story doesn't mean Cinder will forever fail and have her story end up as tragedy.

In this segment I wanted to focus on Cinder's current Cinderella story. While her backstory mostly takes elements from Grimm version of the story, current one is way more Perrault.

Roles of Evil Stepmother and Fairy Godmother are both filled by Salem. Stepmother is someone restraining Cinderella and keeping her under her thumb. Fairy Godmother on the other hand provides Cinderella with tools to fulfill her desires. Salem does both for Cinder: she gave her Grimm arm as a tool to absorb Maiden powers, but at the same time that Grimm arm serves as a leash and a way to punish Cinder. The fact Salem makes Cinder repeat the same mantra Madame did (character which is on the nose Stepmother reference) is another clear reference.

Emerald and Mercury play a role of creatures turned into Cinderella's servants. This is based on both their standings in society (one being street urchin, other being crippled orphan) and the way Cinder recruited them. Fairy Godmother sends Cinderella to find mice, rat and lizards so she can turn them into her servants just like Salem sends Cinder to find Marcus Black but she ends up recruiting Mercury instead. Cinder catches Emerald stealing and ends up recruiting her, just like Cinderella found a rat caught in a mouse trap. Emerald growing disillusioned with Cinder in episode called Midnight is also fitting considering Cinderella's servants turned back into the animals after the clock struck midnight.

Role of stepsisters on the other hand doesn't seem that clear. Looking at Salem's faction, straightforward way would be to read Watts and Tyrian as stepsisters. Both of them heavily dislike Cinder and often mock her during their interactions. And while they are not biologically related to Salem, both of them are loyal minions that always obey her orders and follow her plans. Stark contrast to problem child Cinder who often disregards Salem's interests in favor of her own.

Reason I say it's not that clear is that they are not competition for Cinder's end goal of obtaining Maiden powers. That's why I see Pyrrha, Winter and Weiss as plausible stepsister candidates. While none of them have any connection to Salem, they are all competition in some way. Pyrrha and Winter were selected as Maiden vessels, making them not only clear obstacle to Cinder's goals, but also usurpers to what she perceives as her destiny (different to lets say Raven, who became Maiden before story even began and wasn't selected via Maiden machine).

Winter and Weiss make sense since they are siblings and also exist as a contrast to Cinder's childhood. Former were raised privileged as members of Atlas upper class, while Cinder was raised as a slave. From Cinder's perspective, they represent everything wrong with Atlas and everything she was denied as a child.

Weiss and Pyrrha only make sense in context of Jaune as Prince Charming (more on that later). If Weiss' attraction to Jaune is not just Volume 9 thing and persists further, then that groups Weiss and Pyrrha as characters that have crush on Jaune. This would make them competition to Cinder who consistently "dances" with Prince Jaune.

MANY DANCES OF FALL MAIDEN:

So Cinderella has been equipped with all the tools and followers to reach her goal, but what is her goal? Thing that annoys me when people claim Cinderella's primary motivation is Prince. It is not. In no major version of Cinderella is her primary motivation Prince, she just wants to get to the ball and have fun. Cinderella meeting Prince is consequence of her getting to the ball.

"I wish I could. I wish I could." She was not able to speak the rest, being interrupted by her tears and sobbing.

This godmother of hers, who was a fairy, said to her, "You wish that you could go to the ball; is it not so?"

"Yes," cried Cinderella, with a great sigh.

This is quote from Perrault version, no mentions of Prince anywhere.

Why does this even matter? Well it separates Cinderella's goal, that being getting to the ball and Prince. They are two different things and should be read differently as well. For Cinder her goal is getting all the Maiden powers. Prince is not Maiden powers, he/she is consequence of her quest for power.

In RWBY, Ozpin compares fighting to dancing during Volume 2.

"If you think about it, fighting and dancing aren't so different"

So whenever Cinder fights someone, it's potentially a reference to Cinderella's dance with Prince at the ball.

Depending on story version, number of dances she has with the Prince varies. In Grimm version it's 3 dances, 2 in Perrault and 1 in Disney version. However, I'll respect older versions more here, especially since Cinder doesn't seem to follow Disney version that much. So in conclusion, she has to have multiple dances with Prince.

Prince is the one to approach Cinderella, not the other way around. He is immediately smitten with her and is obsessed by her in all major versions.

Perrault version:

The king's son led her to the most honorable seat, and afterwards took her out to dance with him. She danced so very gracefully that they all more and more admired her. A fine meal was served up, but the young prince ate not a morsel, so intently was he busied in gazing on her.

Grimm version:

He never let go of her hand, and whenever anyone else came and asked her to dance, he would say, "She is my dance partner."

She danced until evening, and then she wanted to go home. But the prince said, "I will go along and escort you,"

So Prince in RWBY should also be someone that goes after Cinder, develops an obsession with her and fights her multiple times. Prince should also be consequence of her goal, not her primary goal.

It might be very obvious where am I going with this.. it's Jaune. Let's go over all major opponents Cinder fought throughout the story and why I think they work/don't work as Prince.

Ruby: She both works and doesn't. She works as straightforward Prince in first 3 volumes. She in thorn in Cinder's side throughout the early portion of the story, but not her primary goal. Ruby is simply consequence of Cinder's quest for power, just like dance with Prince is consequence of Cinderella coming to the ball. They even fight during Beacon Ball, which is very on the nose reference to Cinderella's dance at the ball (Cinder even has to escape before midnight). Final encounter at the end of Volume 3 once again feels as Cinderella reference, Prince encountering unmasked Cinderella just like Ruby encounters "unmasked" Cinder.

This is where things complicate and where I feel we are getting into third Cinderella story. Cinder's story reaches tragic ending at the end of Volume 3, permanently scarring her and turning her into monster. Why do I say this? Because Cinderella references seemingly reset back to the starting point, as well as Ruby/Cinder rivalry changes. Ruby is no longer consequence of Cinder's goals, she is (or at least her death is) one of her goals. They never "dance" again after this and Cinder makes sure they are never in "dancing" distance of each other. Ruby also develops very impersonal rivalry with Cinder where she looks at her as more of a nuisance she has to deal with than proper rival.

But then again, Ruby is the only character that can fulfill the role of Cinder's savior considering her silver eyes are the only thing that can free Cinder from Salem. It's bit annoying, she is Prince, then she isn't, but if Cinder is ever gonna be redeemed Ruby has to become Prince once again.

Amber: Goal, not consequence. Poor girl didn't even know they were dancing

Ozma's incarnations: They fought single time and that was mostly off screen. Doesn't feel major for me to read them as Prince Charming. Neither side seems to hold any major interest in each either. For Oscar Cinder is just another enemy, for Cinder Oscar is someone she needs to capture for Salem's interests or target to hurt Ruby.

Pyrrha: Cool fight, but not quite Prince Charming. Pyrrha goes after Cinder, but it lacks edge overall. For neither side fight is particularly personal. For Pyrrha Cinder is someone she needs to stop, for Cinder Pyrrha is just another powerful enemy in her way. It will also always remain single fight.

Raven: She is Cinder's goal as a Spring Maiden, not consequence of her actions. Raven has next to no interest in Cinder beyond her being Salem's agent.

Neo: This one actually works surprisingly well with them being partners throughout Atlas portion of the story, but I don't think it's quite there. Neo's revenge quest is consequence of Cinder's action. However, I think it lacks edge from Neo's side. Working with Cinder is simply means to an end for her until she kills Ruby.

Winter and Penny: Initially works since she fights both of them on her path to Fria, but both cease being Prince once they become Maiden.

Weiss: Almost completely impersonal from Weiss' side, poor girl just keeps getting targeted because Cinder wants to hurt someone else's feelings.

Now onto the main course.

JAUNE AS PRINCE CHARMING:

Jaune works for multiple reasons. First, he has an unhealthy obsession with her after she killed Pyrrha. He goes on a quest to find her at Haven academy similar to how Prince attempts to pursue Cinderella after every dance. This works especially well with Grimm version where Prince pursues her all the way to her home. Jaune is content with dying, as long as he can inconvenience Cinder in some way and buy his friends some time.

Prince's possessiveness also works with their Haven encounter. Jaune picks Cinder as his opponent just like Prince approaches Cinderella and picks her as his dance partner. Speaking of dance, due to their skill difference, fight ends up being almost dance like. Jaune cannot seriously challenge Cinder, while Cinder is not taking the fight seriously. Setting being open hall and all opponents being matched mostly 1v1 (Nora and Ren once again being party poopers and ignoring literary references) also add to the ball room allusion.

Needless to say, fighting Jaune is definitely not Cinder's goal. Just like dancing with Prince is consequence of Cinderella coming to the ball, fight with Jaune is consequence of Cinder's quest for power. Just like in Cinderella story, Cinder eventually has to leave, disengaging the fight.

Additionally, they end up fighting once again at the end of Volume 8. Once again, fight with Jaune is consequence of Cinder's quest for power, this time going after Penny. He is the one to engage the fight, realizing she is present after seeing her glass shards through the portal. So she appears at the ball again, he once again goes after her and she once again disengages the fight and leaves.

And unlike Ruby, from Jaune's perspective rivalry with Cinder is extremely personal. Which makes additional encounters between them almost inevitable.

SUBVERSION OR...?:

So how does this particular Cinderella story end? And thing is, I can easily see it going the way of full subversion, as in another tragic Cinderella story. Reason I tend to focus on Joan of Arc theories and references is because I feel that it's convoluted enough for me to think it's straightforward story. What's the point of going out of your way to give Cinder plenty of obscure Joan's King references post Volume 3 if the goal is to subvert them with the most expected conclusion of the story. It's hard to appreciate subversion when you don't even understand what is being subverted. Cinderella is bit different. Story is familiar to pretty much everyone and references are more clear. It's entirely possible they'll go Adam route again.

Either way, let me present two plausible endings I can see them creating. Both are of course based on end of story sequence when Prince finds Cinderella and realizes poor servant girl was the princess he was dancing all along.

One is as I said, "Adam" version. Jaune has final encounter with Cinder (probably alongside someone like Weiss), her likely being completely disgraced at that point. She starts going on unhinged Adam like rants (revealing her true self much like Cinderella shows her true self to Prince) on how she is actually the victim, bla bla bla. Jaune tries to persuade her to stop and she continues fighting him until he eventually kills her. Since Cinder's Cinderella was arch enemy to her Prince, it would make some sense for their final encounter to end up in blood. In my previous theory I stated how I find repeating Adam formula to be boring as shit, but I cannot disregard possibility of this happening as much as I heavily dislike it conceptually.

Other is more straightforward version of Cinderella story. Jaune and Cinder would have another fight, this time Jaune pushing her back significantly. This is reference to the last dance Cinderella and Prince have in the story. In Perrault version she loses track of time and has to run, losing her glass slipper. In Grimm version, while she runs she falls for the Prince's trap and loses one of her golden shoes in tar trap. Whatever version you go with, she loses her shoe to the Prince, in Grimm version due to his ingenuity. In this fight we'd see her metaphorical mask slip more and more (mask which Jaune nicked before, mask which seems to be made out of glass) showing glimpses of her true self. This is conceptually relatively similar to the fight I theorized in one of my Vacuo theories I'll link below.

This would eventually lead to non combat encounter between the two, where her mask completely slips, showing her true self. Their rivalry ending with Jaune sympathizing with her to some degree and offering her help, redeeming her.

quick note on the hound: the man seems to be a fox faunus, and who has a fox in their story? pinnocio, the 'hound' being pennys fox, so it could very much be a red herring(hah, get it. red) and the true hound is summer, as you and plenty others have been theorizing

pinocchio’s fox goes hand in hand (paw in paw?) with the cat; they’re a pair of cons, false friends who rob pinocchio and at one point try to murder him by hanging. penny’s fox and cat are watts and ironwood 👍

the hound is fairly incidental to penny’s story (narratively salem sets him on penny to facilitate ruby’s encounter with him); thus the big-bad-wolf angle implied directly by ruby’s presumption that summer shared the hound’s fate. i am a bit torn on whether the lovecraft allusion is deliberate—it fits really quite well, but on the other hand lovecraft is well outside of rwby’s usual pulls and ‘the hound’ isn’t exactly a pop cultural touchstone like, say, ‘the call of cthulhu’ is—but i am one hundred percent sure they knew what story they would evoke if they put a fox guy inside a hound.

and well. fuck me if i can remember how the disney film goes, but in the book tod (<- the fox) kills the master’s favorite hunting dog, chief, and the rest of the story revolves around the master’s obsessive quest to kill this fucking fox. whether or to what degree that might inform the hound guy’s story remains to be seen.

(though i’ll note that there is some potential intersection between tod and lovecraft’s ghoul if chief=the amulet, as the theft/killing provokes the unstoppable hunt.)

ANOTHER THING. is that salem’s first allusion is the-maiden-in-tower (rapunzel, persinette, petrosinella—she is all of them), and the first beast petrosinella conjures to protect herself during her escape from the tower/the ogress is… a dog. (then a lion, then a wolf, who eats the ogress.) (if you’re thinking “um. what” then YEAH petrosinella is the “one of these is not like the others” maiden-in-the-tower story. she’s great look her up.)

Hello! It may be a bit early, but I've been really enjoying the Red Riding Hood story we've been seeing throughout volume 9. Outside we've got Weiss, Yang, and Blake all trying to protect Ruby from the Big Bad Wolf, the Curious Cat. (this works well with the idea you've had of Weiss as her hunter too, if I recall correctly!)

But I'm wondering how you think that Summer might fit into this? Of course we've got the idea that she's the hunter/woodsman as well - she's literally the Huntress that Ruby's been idolizing her whole life. But as I'm seeing it for now, she's also a wolf that's been holding Ruby back emotionally and physically. Ruby can't move on because she stuck in her mother's shadow (perhaps like Red Riding Hood was stuck in the belly of the wolf?) But now Ruby is taking her mother's weapon (an ax) and getting something out of whatever the Tree will provide her with, be that an answer about Summer's fate or something else. Ruby will come out of the wooden cocoon and be a different form of her without the weight of Summer's legacy (at least, that's what I'm thinking so far), perhaps by using the Woodsman/Hunter's ax to get herself out. So perhaps Ruby could be her own hunter too, breaking herself out of the wolf of her mother.

If you have a different thought, I'd love to hear it! Your takes are always so interesting.

In general, I would say RWBY's allusions are not limited to specific instances, but rather they comment a character arc from beginning to end (in a metaphorical way of course!).

All of this to say, this volume is Ruby's story, so of course it is a version of LRRH. Still, Ruby's arc is not limited to this volume alone, so this isn't the only version of LRRH we are getting.

Again, I would need to reread Ruby's story as a whole to pick on different references, but as for now... I would say the LRRH's allusion comes out rather strongly in volume 6 and volume 9 (2 volumes, which are clearly meant to be foiled):

Volume 6 centers around the figure of the Grandmother (Maria) and the motif of the eyes

Volume 7 centers around the figure of the Wolf (CC) and the theme of the shadow

(Also it is interesting the LRRH allusion always starts with a detour:

Volume 6 - team RWBY + Oscar and Qrow leave the tracks and take a detour both physically and thematically in how they leave Oz's pre-established path. The final episode is even called "Our Way".

Volume 9 - team RWBY + Jaune and Neo leave the yellow brick-road of the Wizard of Oz and fall into Wonderland. They take an even deeper and larger detour as volume 9 is literally its own story and the main plot is paused)

I am pretty sure that if one were to analyze these 2 volumes deeply enough, more references would come out... and if one were to analyze Ruby's arc well enough, one would realize it follows her fairy tale to a T.

All of this to say, I think Summer's role would be multifaceted and complex and fit different characters of the fairy tale in different ways.

In general, I think Summer is the key character of Ruby's arc, which means she is probably gonna play all the different characters of her fairy tale. This is because right now for Ruby Summer is everything.

It is a common path in RWBY really. For example, Blake starts with Adam being all the characters and motifs in her fairy-tale: he was the rose, the beast in Blake's personal life and the beast in Blake's struggle for the Faunus rights. Blake's growth stems from her finding new people who better fit her fairy-tale:

Ruby is the Rose, who inspires her

Weiss is the Beauty for Blake's Faunus Right fight

Yang is the Beauty in Blake's personal life

Ilia and Sun are 2 other beasts, who support Blake's Beauty's journey

Now, I think something similar is gonna happen with Summer. She is so central to Ruby as a person, she has kind of taken over her whole narrative:

She is first and foremost the Mother - the one who points the right path to LRRH and the one LRRH has to leave in order to enter the Woods (to grow up).

Summer leaves Ruby and this kickstarts Ruby's story. This kickstarts Ruby's journey to catch up to her. She follows the path Summer taught her (indirectly). To be a Huntress and to help people. And yet, at one point Ruby will have to take a detour in order to discover who she is.

After wondering in the Woods and meeting many dangers and characters, LRRH arrives to the Grandma's house. Now, the Grandma in the story is just another way to call the Mother, aka a more mature feminine presence. And yet, when LRRH arrives, she discovers the Grandma is not really who she remembers. I think something similar may happen with Ruby and Summer. Ruby will have to face the person behind the ideal. In this sense, Summer will be a Wolf.

Summer is also the Huntress, in how, as you said, she has inspired Ruby to grow into a Huntress herself. I don't know if this means Summer will save Ruby. She may in a final moment of glory, but the point as for now is that Ruby needs to become her own Huntress, rather than a copy of Summer.

Just like Blake, it is possible Ruby will need to find other people, who fit the roles better and she has:

Yang took the place of the Mother

Blake takes the place of the Wolf and showed Ruby a wolf can change, so a lost person can be found again

Weiss will probably show Ruby a child can become a Huntress, which is what Ruby herself needs to do

This also fits with Summer having literally all of the girls' colors:

This is because she is probably a combination of all of them, an ideal.

On a final note, I see Ruby like this:

LRRH > the ego

The Wolf > Ruby's inner darkness and trauma

The Hunter > Ruby's super-ego aka her purpose

Summer might turn out to be:

The Mother > the ego

The Wolf > the shadow/her inner darkness

The Hunter > the super-ego > Summer's purpose

Ruby's problem is that she was living as a super-ego, so this volume challenges her to face her inner wolf (her shadow), so that she can come out as a more balanced ego.

Summer seems to have been living as the super-ego, as well. Maybe even moreso than Ruby, so I wonder what happened to her when the Wolf took over.

In short, I think Ruby the Huntress might meet Summer the Wolf in the future and they could have a reconciliation only if they meet as their egos: as Mother and Daughter.

That said, we'll see! I am very excited about Summer!

EDIT - I realized I might not have made it clear. But I actually really like your idea fo Summer metaphorically saving Ruby this volume (even if my preference is toward Penny). I was trying to just wide the perspective a little to encapsulate not just this volume, but the story as a whole!

Jaune Hunting Season. (Feat. Wolf Faunus Ruby.)

Papa Arc: Wake up Son we're going hunting!

Jaune: But dad I don't want to go hunting!

Papa Arc: Son. I'll pretend I didn't hear you. There is nothing more noble and honorable than shooting a defenseless animal with a high powered rifle.

Jaune: Dad killing animals is wrong and barbaric.

Papa Arc: What wrong is you not getting your butt inside my car right this instance.

Jaune: No dad I won't do it.

Papa Arc: Oh I see. As a father I need to respect my children's wishes... Sike! *snatch & tie Jaune up like a hog* You're going on a hunting trip with me boy and that's final. Besides we hardly bond together lately.

Jaune: That's because of stuffs like this dad! Why can't we just bond over board game or something boring like that?

Papa Arc does not listen to what his son have to say and just place Jaune in his car. And before they know it they already in their hunting gears.

Papa Arc: Okay Jaune we will meet up here later this afternoon. For now go ahead and find something to shoot. I'll be right here setting up camp. And be careful around this part I set up trap around this area since yesterday. If you found one caught in my trap go ahead and put it out off its misery.

Jaune: Okay dad. I'll be going... (Finally I'm out of there.)

With a rifle in hand. He walks into the wood, not to hunt but to mostly get away from his dad's venal attempt in trying to turn him into a man.

??? : *howling in pain*

Jaune: What was that?

He said despite knowing that there's only one animal that can make that kind of sound and they are in pain. With haste Jaune runs as fast as he can to the direction of the sound.

Wolf Ruby: *snarl. Yelping in pain* 🐺

Jaune sees a small wolf Faunus girl having her leg been caught inside a bear trap.

Jaune: Oh poor girl. Here let me help you out...

Ruby: Get away from me human!!! *clawing Jaune's eyes out*

Jaune: I-it's okay girl. I'm trying to help you out.

Ruby: No! You're lying. All humans are liar and murderer! Human is the reason my mom is dead!!!

Jaune: I'm sorry about your mother. But I'm not like that. I'm trying to help you. Look see. I'm dropping my gun and I swear I will not harm you. I just need you to allow me to touch you for a second so I can get your leg out from the bear trap.

Ruby: *growl* Fine! But no funny business mister.

Jaune: Okay here goes... *gently removes Ruby's leg from the bear trap*

Ruby: Ahh!!!

Jaune: Shh.... *Rub Ruby's head* there you go... Good girl, good girl...

Ruby: 🤯

Sometimes later....

Papa Arc: There you are son! Where have you been?

Jaune: Dad, you don't mind if I bring a friend home right?

Ruby: *Hugging Jaune's arm* Hello mister Jaune's dad. My name is Ruby and I already Marked your son as my mate. 💕

Papa Arc: I see.... Ruby would you mind if we have some time alone together? You know seeing that we will be in-law after all.

Ruby: I see no problem with that. Lead on Jaune's dad.

The two walks into the secluded area of the forest...

Papa Arc: So Ruby. You and my son, huh. How did you two met?

Ruby: Oh it's nothing to talk about really. Jaune saved me from a trap laid by a human then he used his semblance to heal me. He was so patient with me and so kind that I can't help but want him to be my mate... 😊

Papa Arc: I see interesting... By the way was your mother's name Summer Rose?

Ruby: Yeah, Summer Rose was my mom. Why did you ask?

Papa Arc: Because... *points his gun* I killed your mother.

Ruby: W-what?

*bang!*
