Okay, yeah, I'm gonna say it.
Wild Cards. I mean, it's a CW show, so we expect little, but I think somehow, I still expected too much.
So anyway, thoughts be under the cut. Just my thoughts, to be fair. If you have different ones, that's cool.
(And my friend, if you click that cut, you know what you're getting into!)
It just feels like....they threw in a bunch of the most typical "case of the week" cliches that usually would work but just...don't?
The characters are flat as HELL. Every single character has 1 (1) personality trait. The only reason Max stands out at all is because the rest of them have the affect of a government office receptionist.
The stories are so instantly forgettable. Like I've watched all 6 currently out episodes to give it a fair chance and frequently forgot what was happening halfway through, because it was just so inconsequential.
IT. IS. SO. BORING. See above point, but at least in Riverdale, you were entertained, last three seasons aside. This show...it's the kind of thing you'd only keep on if you didn't have a remote in reach. The stories are so completely predictable that I feel like one of my preschoolers could map it out.
The case of the week format. Look, it is SO possible to do the case of the week stuff and get you invested in the story and the characters, even if they only appear for one episode. Think of Fish in Wynonna Earp. Chelsea Cole and her mom in Bones. So many examples and yet the stories in all six episodes were just - I don't understand why I am supposed to care about these randos?
The acting. God, it's so bad. I have seen Giacomo do good stuff on Grey's but here he's just as flat as everyone else, with a profoundly uninteresting character to boot. And Vanessa uses absolutely zero inflection in her tone and no facial expressions? The last episode where she was discussing her mother should have been an emotional scene but there was so little emotion in her voice? Compare it to ND where Nancy talks to Birdie about being something more than just a girl who survived a tragedy, and you can hear the emotion in her voice.
I am so confused by how they're presenting Max? They want us to think of her as a genius mastermind criminal who regularly scams people and also a benevolent innocent lil baby and how dare people suggest she may not be trustworthy? She isn't a cop, she's a criminal! This is the entire premise.
They are clearly using all the cliches - the Not Like Other Girls, the Wisecracking Group of Sidekicks, the Unconventional But Effective Methods, the Hidden Emotional Trauma, and of course, the Will They Won't They. But the thing is, there's so little character there, I don't care if they will or won't? Again, it feels like they are throwing in what should be all successful tropes, but they don't hit at all?
Also, before anyone says it, yes I realize they are only six episodes in. But tbh, in all the shows I like, by the 6th episode the plot and characters were quite well established. I don't think I can drag myself through another episode of this show.

so over the last three days i decided to (re)watch wynonna earp
i couldn't remember exactly where i fell off watching it when it was coming out, but turns out it was season 3 (either before it started or within the first episode or two)
it was nice seeing the show again all at once, much easier to follow the plot threads when i didn't have to wait a week (or months) for more information that would override previous statements

SHELBIE: “We also actually have seen a difference in characters. So there are 80 less characters last year, queer characters, like WLW characters. There are 80 less WLW characters in the last TV season than the year before so it’s kind of like-“
EMILY ANDRAS: “Where’d they all go?”
SHELBIE: “ABC lost 18. Netflix lost 22.”
VALERIE: “Just walked into the parking lot and disappeared.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yeah, exactly. Or they all got on the wrong bus to the greatest party that we can go to.”
NOELLE: “Oh that’s much better!”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yeah, I wish that was true. I wish that was true.”
SHELBIE: “From an industry perspective do you think that there’s - because of the backlash of 2016 - there was an uptick in like ‘Oh, we have to do rep” and kind of now, everybody’s a little afraid of how to tell those stories. Do you think maybe that’s what’s happening?”
EMILY ANDRAS:
*to Noelle*
“That’s such a good question and I’m looking at you.”
NOELLE: “Yeah, I mean, I would say anytime you get a finger pointed at you and someone telling you you’re not doing a good job - especially like from a network perspective where those optics are really important. In the US, they seem to care more than they do here. I would say, not to be cynical but I would say, yeah, that is probably why there were more. But that doesn’t mean that those stories, clearly, were being told more responsibly or in a better way or that those characters were three-dimensional characters who were fully fleshed. I think if you can lose that many, they probably weren’t integral enough to your show to begin with.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yeah, that’s my fear a little bit. It’s almost like this cute trend for some people and I’m like ‘It’s not a trend. These are real people and this is real representation and this needs to be what it is going forward’. So I think there was a little bit of a sense from some networks - One Day At A Time - that maybe it was like, ‘Well we gave you some candy and then you are the candy and now there’s no more candy left’. And I’m like ‘It’s not candy’ and they’re like ‘We love candy. How dare you!’. Um… I think it’s both things. I think it’s both like ‘Well, we can just throw in a bunch of LGBTQ characters and like that’ll feed the masses’. But also the other fear is that I do think there is a little bit of a resistance particularly, potentially from writers who are older or more established that they’re like ‘Well, I’m so terrified to wade in here and tell these stories that I’m just not going to tell these stories or include these characters at all’. But that’s just bullshit. You just have to learn to be better maybe and try harder.”
SHELBIE: “Be more creative.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yeah, be more creative.”
NOELLE; “Retire!”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yes, retire. Yeah, exactly.”
*crowd laughs and applauds*
SHELBIE: “Do you think there’s a way that we can use Wynonna Earp as a little bit of kind of like a flagship saying ‘Listen, you can tell queer stories and you tell them with drama’. What I hear a lot, I feel like from writers is ‘Well, I mean you don’t want to be bad rep, so then we can’t tell any stories because we can’t have any bad storylines’. But Wynonna Earp kind of - you guys have been proving that you can have the drama and you can tell the stories and then still treat your characters with respect. So do you have any idea how we could get that information in to like a more of a way where it could be digestible by executives or showrunners or other writers?”
NOELLE: “Yeah, I mean I think just tell everybody to watch the show. I mean like, come on.”
EMILY: “Everybody.”
NOELLE: “Everybody, tell your everybody. Um… I mean for me it comes back to making sure that your queer characters aren’t secondary or tertiary to the main characters. Like I think the fact that when Emily built this world, you know, um, the queer characters became-“
EMILY ANDRAS: “Team effort.”
NOELLE: “Yes, team effort. Whatever. I wasn’t even here…. Um the fact that you can, you know, have - you can have an episode where, you know, where Wynonna’s sister’s girlfriend can be in the entire A-story with her, like is a testament to the fact that though, you know, Nicole, or if you have a story with, you know, with um, with Doc and Jeremy, like those characters are fundamental to the lifeblood of the series. They’re not just somebody you go out to for kissing scenes so you can tick the box and say, you know, ‘We did our rep. We did a good job’, you know, and pat ourselves on the back. I think if more shows did that then you,… the drama would be inherent. Like if when you created those characters you thought how they related to everybody on your show, not just the person they were sleeping with or smooching with, then I think that would just give yourself more opportunity for drama because, um,… because those characters are real and they matter to more people than just their partner.”
VALERIE: “And then your only options for drama aren’t relationship drama because you have so many other relationships and you can tell so many other sides of the story and it’s a lot more exciting that way.”
SHELBIE: “If they’re actual characters, yeah. If they’re only the ‘gay character’ then you have no other story to tell than their drama I guess. Their relationship drama.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Their sexuality can’t just be their story. It has to be intrinsic to their character - but their whole story can’t just be ‘I’m gay’ all the time, although that’s not the worst.”
NOELLE: “I would also say that I think as writers and, you know, producers and people in the industry, we are conditioned because it’s the way we came up. Because it’s what TV has always been. That the thing that’s the most dramatic is loss and tragedy. And I think we undervalue how much emotion and how much drama a queer audience can get out of a happy ending because it isn’t the standard. You know?
*crowd applauds*
I think we need to put more value in happy endings for queer characters and not just go ‘Well, you know, for straight characters a happy ending - like who cares? We should probably kill somebody’. Like maybe we could have a happy ending every once in awhile.”
VALERIE:
*to Shelbie*
“And to sort of go back to what you’re saying about like Wynonna Earp being a flagship. It’s why like sometimes the running joke on the Autostraddle TV team is like ‘I bet Valerie is going to bring up Wynonna Earp on this roundtable again’”
EMILY ANDRAS: “‘How dare you!.’”
VALERIE: “Because it’s true… yes, I’m definitely biased because I love the show, but it’s also true that there are so many things that you can point to. It’s like ‘Well, okay this show failed us, but look how Wynonna Earp did a similar thing and succeeded at it.’ So it’s like it’s kind of always pointing those things out to hopefully get future TV writers, future people who are reading TV critic recaps, and things now, that will go on to create, like have it kind of in the back of their mind.”
NOELLE: “I hope so.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “I am impatient though, like the one thing I want, which we’re not quite there yet is like, it would be good to have a world where you can also have like queer villains, you know what I mean? Like I want to get to the point where we have our heroes, so then we’re going to have awesome LGBTQ-like villains and complicated people and it’s… we just need more of everything. Do you know what I mean? And then it’s going to be more fully rounded. But I’m not completely sure we’re there yet.”
SHELBIE: “I think Gentleman Jack is making at least a little bit of a stride.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “It is. It sure is.”
SHELBIE: “Because as much as we all want to love her… she’s not exactly the greatest person in the world.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “She’s complicated. Exactly.”
VALERIE: “Villanelle.”
SHELBIE: “Oh, yeah, that’s a good one.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Villanelle. Yup. Fine. I’ll write a gay villain. Okay?”
NOELLE: “But then you get…”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Friends to enemies, enemies to friends.”
NOELLE: “Then you get into the situation though where you’re like, ‘We have this amazing part… and it would be great to cast this character or to write this character as a queer character’, but ultimately the bad guys die, generally, and so you’re like well… so if we’re a show that has really good rep, is it okay if we kill the… if we write this amazing part for an amazing queer character, but then at the end they have to die. So then that’s an added level of, you know, if we had made real sustainable progress since 2016, maybe, but the fact that we haven’t means I don’t know that… I mean it’s-“
EMILY ANDRAS: “Difficult.”
VALERIE: “As of right now there’s still a very fine line between like a queer villain and villainizing queerness.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “That’s so true.”
SHELBIE: “That’s a good way to put that. I think though that there’s, from like a straight statistics point of view - somebody’s going to be crazy, somebody’s going to die, somebody’s all those things. So if you have enough to balance it. I think that’s how you do that. So if you have 4 gay characters and you kill one from like our, you know, objective scoring system, you’d still have a really positive score because you’d have enough positive to balance out… the thing that you’re doing.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Right.”
NOELLE: “It’s still scary as hell though. It still would give me hives.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yeah, I don’t know. We have a super hero that shoots people in the face. So I just like, do not think that’s a good plan at this stage. Like, no, I just like honestly, I just like think about it all the time. It’s like, I just wanted to move faster. Do you feel like that for diversity in general? I’m just like if it was faster, then there’s going to be more times for people who are queer too. Do you know what I mean? Like that’s the other truth. Like the actors I know who are LGBTQ are like ‘I just want to do everything’ right? Like ‘I want to play Bobo Del Rey. I want to play everything’.”
SHELBIE: “It’s an interesting argument ‘cause we want queer people playing queer roles and queer writers writing queer stories. But at the end of the day you want queer actors to be able to just play anything right? The same way that we wouldn’t want anyone else to get boxed in. So that’s kind of a… it’s an interesting argument I feel like that’s happening right now in the industry.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “It is, but at least we’re having it. At least we’re talking about it.”
SHELBIE: “We’re having the discussion.”
EMILY ANDRAS: “Yeah, exactly.”
NOELLE: “And you can’t really ask like, you know? I was just on a show where I was like, it would be great to get like a queer actor to play this role, but you can’t ask so unless you know, and you don’t always know, like… how do you do that?”
SHELBIE: “Yeah ‘cause you can’t not hire them because they’re not queer or hire them. Yeah, that’s tough.”
I had to transcribe this entire question and answer segment from this EH Con Canada 2019 panel because it’s such an important conversation to have and set of questions to address regarding LGBTQ representation in TV art/entertainment. What they talk about is what I’ve been writing about frequently and recently about how to provide better and more positive LGBTQ representation - particularly surrounding WLW characters - and the representation anxiety and cancellation anxiety that so many TV show creators feel over potentially accidentally perpetuating the harmful trope of Bury your Gays and being mistakenly accused of queerbaiting through main characters that can be perceived as gay or queer when they’re not canon gay or queer main characters.
They specifically talk about how to go about telling stories with and about gay or queer main characters that are the same or similar stories that we see with straight, cis and white male characters all the time because there is much less controversy over it when it’s a straight, cis white male main character because those main characters are everywhere and their stories - both positive and negative - in TV art/entertainment are everywhere because they get to be all different types of negative and complicated characters like villains that are abusive and destructive people that do deserve death or other forms of punishment and there’s no resistance against that by the general public because it’s not ever marginalizing or villainizing a specific group or community of people that need representation.
I would recommend you to watch the whole video because it’s all important but I specifically think this part of the panel is the most important and I am so proud of Emily Andras, her entire Wynonna Earp team, and the Earper fandom for spearheading this incredibly necessary initiative in addressing LGBTQ representation in the TV art/entertainment industry. This is a conversation that everybody that cares to talk about this subject needs to have to make a real difference in achieving better and more positive representation for gay or queer characters that aren’t or won’t always be the greatest people and telling their stories where they have a negative or darker character arc than other characters that are also gay or queer that have a positive and lighter character arc.
How do we do this? We need to have the in-depth conversations in addressing this subject together as a LGTBQ+POC community before we go asking for and pitching it to TV showmaking networks that have a sincere interest in providing better and more positive LGBTQ+POC representation but are afraid to because of representation anxiety and cancellation anxiety.
This video is long but it’s well worth the watch. If you don’t want to or don’t have the time to watch it, at least read the little segment that I have transcribed and if you feel like you want to talk about it - I’m here.
Let’s have the conversation. It’s incredibly important.
I will link you to where I’ve written about this before if you don’t understand and want to know more: https://www.tumblr.com/girl4music/743149350219333632

Nell, I've followed you for years and years now (long enough that I don't want to think about it too much because the passage of time makes me feel old, and Merlin was SO long ago, oh god), and I trust your tastes. What shows can you recommend with canon wlw romance? The more central it is to the plot, the better!
I am honored to have your trust, and I'll see what I can do, though I feel like I so rarely watch shows these days! And like it's hard to find things with central f/f, but we'll see what I can spin up.
You know I have to mention Xena, if you've been around here that long. It is ... as canon as they would let it be in the late 90s/early 00s, but you cannot deny that it is INCREDIBLY central to the plot and the emotional throughlines of the characters.
Vagrant Queen only lasted one season on SyFy, but there's a sapphic romance between two of the three main characters and it's fairly central. There is a whole lot of violence and blood, so beware if that's not your thing.
Killjoys does have one canon f/f ship that is a major b-plot in season 3 and shows up throughout seasons 4 and 5 (though one member of the ship is played by the actress who also plays the main character, so as a consequence they are often separated).
I haven't actually watched Gentleman Jack, but if you enjoy a period drama, I suspect this may be the show for you, I hear delightful things and as a bonus you get some wild 1830s costumes.
I only watched the first season of Wynonna Earp because the plot wasn't my jam, but there's a major secondary f/f ship in that one in the first season and I believe that continues throughout the show.
And to finish it off, Sense8 has a lot of main characters and thus a LOT going on, but there is a canon f/f pairing throughout the show, both characters are central to the plot, and their love clearly matters a lot to the showrunners.

54, 70, 80, 94, and 100: my question. how dare you for breaking my heart because of bigfoot? (part three)
DEEP BREATH WERE ALMOST THERE
54. what’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
i dont know! i think i do everything wrong probably! nobody has ever given me a writing tip! actually i did write recaps of one season of wynonna earp a few years ago and the person paying me to do that suggested I could pay more attention to varying the lengths of my sentences. My sentences still are sometimes repetitive in length but i do NOTICE it now, im just not sure how to fix it most of the time lol.
70. are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)?
Im VERY critical a lot of the time. It depends though. On how invested I am emotionally in a particular thing I wrote? I go back and edit for punctuation etc but I'll notice repetitive words and change them a little bit or make them more repetitive so it feels more purposeful. Sometimes there are lines I just HATE and they sit in my brain until i fix them. The worst thing is when I hate a line and other people really like it and quote it back to me in comments and then I feel like i cant really change it???
80. do you try to put themes, motifs, messages, morals, etc in your writing? if so, how do you go about it?
No morals. No messages. Sometimes motifs (oranges in nothing but the whole wide world, the color pink in linens and things etc). themes just kind of happen or dont. most of the time i dont really know what something is about until somewhere around like 90% through it and then a lot of the time there's already seeds of that in what ive already written but i also go back in and work at it a little bit. Maybe there is a message and it is "girls should kiss, sometimes."
94. do you prefer dialogue or description?
Dialogue. I love it. I can get lost in banter. I need to work on my descriptions lately I think, Im having a hard time with that aspect lately. I feel repetitive. I AM repetitive.
100. How dare me for breaking your heart because of bigfoot?
I really dont fucking know, bro. I did not set out to write a sad story or even an emotional story at all these bitches were supposed to just have some banter in a car and then bang on a mountain! It is out of my control! Like I sincerely have no idea how this series turned into any of what it is, it was supposed to be silly!

TOP SHIPS OF ALL TIME:
this is in no order but it will be numbered for my sanity.
1. slexie - mark and lexie/greys anatomy
• i am so attached to this ship, i have never sobbed so hard an my life than when i first watched the season 8 finale/season 9 premiere of greys anatomy. i still rewatch only their seasons quite often.
2. catradora - catra and adora/SPOP
• ultimate comfort ship, i rewatch she ra whenever i am going through it. i first watched it when i was 15 and i still watch it for comfort. 15 is a nostalgic age for me, she ra reminds me of what it was like before anxiety. 😩
3. korrasami - korra and asami/LOK
• another comfort ship, comfort show, etc. lok and avatar are more shows i watched when i was 15, when the pandemic hit i was almost 16. i was locked up in my room, no school, no going out, no friends. i had a basement room with a couch and a huge tv, i spent MANY weeks watching netflix on that couch and the feeling was immaculate. i rewatch the atlau shows VERY often.
4. bellarke - bellamy and clarke/the 100
• once again another comfort show, i rewatch the 100 annually and have been watching it since season 4 came out. my dad started watching it, then my mom, then my sister. it became a show we watched all together, and i had a little ritual when it came to new seasons. i am an impatient person in some ways more than others, i do not have the patience to maintain interest when watching episodes weekly but i have no issue waiting for the whole season to be out. so every year as the episodes came out, i ignored them. when they all hit netflix, i would binge. however, for season 7 of the 100 i waited 2 years. i think i was procrastinating letting it end. bellarke was THE slowburn. i was so sure they would end up together, in a way im glad they didn't, but i loved them so much. i cannot describe the way that i feel when watching them and this show.
5. clexa - clarke and lexa/the 100
• GAY SLOWBURN. y'all i have so many fics i read consistently about clexa. i have like 3 on shuffle that i've read 10 times minimum. i cry like a bitch every time i rewatch s2-3 of the 100.
6. avatrice - ava and beatrice/warrior nun
• so i had heard a lot and seen a lot about this show before i actually watched it, which was actually in january of this year, several months after the 2nd (and final 🥲) season came out. i QUICKLY fell in love w both avatrice and ava/beatrice as individuals. i also read a lot of avatrice fics and cry thinking abt it being cancelled 😭
7. stydia - stiles and lydia/teen wolf
• BEST SLOWBURN OF ALL TIMEEE. it's weird to think teen wolf ended SIX years ago, this is another show i rewatch annually and what's funny is when i was 12 watching this show i did not care for stydia. i liked scott's relationships with allison and kira, never paid much attention to stiles and lydia until i was 16/17 and i rewatched and realized that they are AMAZING.
8. sameena - sam and deena/fear street
• MORE ANNUAL REWATCH SERIES. i LOVE LOVE LOVE these movies, and when i say sam and deena i am also including sarah and hannah. ex's/enemies to lovers in HORROR? forbidden love? sapphics? say less.
9. glaggie - glenn and maggie/twd
• so this was my first ship ever. started watching this when i was 11, i watched it over and over and over, i read the first 3 compendiums of the comics, then season 7 rolled around, i watched three first episode live then never watched another episode last season 6 again.
10. delena - damon and elena/tvd
• honestly they sort of give me the ick now but 12 year old me ATE that shit up, would also like to add they were my sexual awakening. i remember watching one of their spicy scenes and feeling a little funny 🥴
11. wayhaught - waverly and nicole/wynonna earp
• hottest ship ever. i fucking love them and i still need to watch the most reason season which is not that recent.
12. (honorable mention) camren - camila and lauren/5h
• camren gets only an honorable mention bc i don't ship them anymore, but they were MY gay awakening. when i was 13 i discovered fifth harmony and, naturally, i discovered ✨camren fanfiction✨ i literally did not know i was gay until i started reading fics about them. it just clicked when i felt more reading than i ever had for real life boys. :) anyways i don't support shipping real people anymore at my ripe age of 18.

This is going to be a rant about shows being cancelled and the state of streaming services and media.
I'm mad about Warrior Nun being canceled. I'm mad about First Kiss. I'm mad about Gentleman Jack, Legends of Tomorrow (and the whole lot of DC shows), The Owl House, Charmed. Older canceled shows like One Day at a Time, Dark Matter, Wonderfalls, Sweet/Vicious, the Hulu & Freeform Marvel shows (The Runaways, Cloak & Dagger), Teenage Bounty Hunters, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Wynonna Earp. Carnival. Warehouse 13. STUMPTOWN! I'm never going to stop screaming about the tragedy of that one. There are tons more. I don't have hours to list them all.
It sucks when a good show gets canceled. It sucks when you look for more content, and all you can find is the same show starring the same kind of tough, cishet, white dude that's in its seventh season and has three spinoffs. There is never an abundance of queer content. It feels like there is when we get lucky enough to have multiple shows in a year, but it's nothing compared to cishet content.
Things began to change with Netflix a few years before COVID. I want to point to COVID and blame it for everything, and it certainly did have a big impact on production costs, but the fact is that Netflix (specifically) has been reluctant to have any show last for more than two or three seasons because then it has to pay everyone more. They'd rather cancel and start up a new show.
There's a problem with streaming services and access in general, though. You've probably started to watch an older show on Netflix (one that they license) and found that it would be leaving the service at the end of the month. It might be available on another service, or it might not be available anywhere.
And then there's the issue of licensing.
If you have a physical copy because the company who produced it included selling physical media in the deal or budget for the show, you can always rewatch it and relive the good times. But if it's a streaming-only show, there's a very low chance it will ever be legally sold on physical media.
Remember the Marvel shows on Netflix? I want to own more than one season of Jessica Jones. Guess how many seasons were released on disc? If you guessed "one," then you are correct. Even Daredevil only had two seasons released on disc, and it was a breakout hit.
Remember Wynonna Earp? IDW used Kickstarter to fund the box sets. They didn't even go through a major distributor.
I'll never see Sweet/Vicious on disc. I'll never own She-Ra on blu-ray. The Runaways, Cloak & Dagger (I know it's not queer, but I love that show, ok?), Sense8, Arcane, Dead to Me, Derry Girls, Paper Girls, ALOTO, Gentleman Jack - I'll probably never be able to buy any of them legally.
Yes, I know that the first three seasons of SPOP were released on DVD. Where's the rest of it? Where's my blu-ray release?
The best and worst thing the digital age has given us has been streaming services. You have a huge library of content at your fingertips that can be taken away at any moment.
Just look at the shit show that is HBO Max after the Warner/Discovery merger. Shows are getting cut from that service faster than I can keep track of. Shows that may never see the light of day again (or ever, in the case of per-release properties) because WB/D holds the rights and is shoving them into storage in an attic. We are watching shows become lost media.
I'm getting tired of my shows being canceled. I'm getting tired of them being locked behind one particular service in a landscape where every company has to have its own platform. Streaming was supposed to be the alternative to cable, but they're squeezing us for more and more and giving us less and less for it.
But I'm tired of there being fewer and fewer legal ways to consume content offline. Even in the 90s and early 2000s when shows were cut down at alarming rates, we still had physical media. For example, Shout Factory was well known for putting out obscure or classic shows and movies with a big enough fan base.
(Note to self: buy that Facts of Life set before it disappears for another 20 years.)
We may need to go back to smaller companies making their own content. I don't know. It feels like the streaming wonderland is collapsing, and I don't know what system will rise from the ashes.
I used to joke that knowing me was getting to experience a list of shows that were canceled before their time. It's still true.

Comfort shows part 2
Supergirl: let both siblings be gay. Winn Scott had it right episode one. Straight besties don’t look at each other like that. Came for the superhero’s stayed for the lgbtq crack.
Tumblr media
Dare me: was this the reason I joined cheer. Maybe No absolutely not. Attractive women could end me and I’d say thanks. Sharing a name with main character is wack. But not in a bad way yk.
Tumblr media
Legacies: no knowledge of the rest of the series. Only this matters. Can you see why I stayed. Hint it’s for the gay. Why are the men here. Do they need money.
Tumblr media
The 100: past season 3 does not matter. Clark can suck it. Only good thing is Raven and potentially Maddy. Watch because of middle school nostalgia. And more pretty people.
Tumblr media
Umbrella academy: Elliot page. Dance sequences. Quirky, questionable, queer. Good character growth. Like Luther from boring daddies boy to love struck himbo. No one can stop me from liking this. Sloan could stab me and I’d apologize for dulling the blade.
Tumblr media
Wynonna Earp: they jogged so we could run. Wayverly and Nicole my goodness. And people wonder why I’m a lesbian.
Tumblr media
Scream: only season 1 and 2. Season three does not exist. I do not believe in it. Bex Taylor Klaus as Audrey. Stickin to the trend here. Savior complex tells me to fix villain. So many reasons to be lesbian. Am I a true crime podcast junkie or gay for piper. We may never know. It’s both.
Tumblr media
Inside job: Oprah runs the Illuminati. Grumble Stan meets Rick. Caffeine addict never sleeps and creates sentient life from zeros and one’s. Conspiracy theorists dream. Except flat earthers. Haha suck it. Bagel man makes friends.
Tumblr media
Disenchantment: family dynamics, cat demon with drinking problem. Boot princess with drinking problem. Green elf dude with drinking problem. Laughing horse. Bean and mermaid. Finally the rep we deserve. Can someone say mommy issues.
Tumblr media
Derry girls: quick laughs. The office if it was set in a family and it’s Irish. Awesome accents. Nervous lesbian overthinks breathing. Does it count as gay panic if they’re always panicking.

I rewatched/finished watching Wynonna Earp finally for the first time since the whole thing has been out. I’d seen the first two seasons a few times and watched season 3 as it came out and then half of season 4 and then it just never crossed my radar when the second half of the season finally aired, and then I remembered and forced my best friend to watch all 49 episodes with me over the course of the last couple of weeks and MAN am I jealous of the concept of watching this entire thing in one run and not wobbling through the weird airing schedules and shit that made me forget how much fun I was having between each episode in season 3 back in summer 2019 lol
They spent 1 season not being allowed to swear at all and trying so hard to work around how much every person in that show would say "fuck" in awkward cringey ways, and then they were granted one single fuck in season 2, and season three I think they got 2 fucks. And then the like production network behind the show changed between 3 and 4, and the budget explodes and you get this high value season with genuinely cool and scary monsters and a like 3 minute lesbian sex scene and a bunch of f bombs throughout and the whole time you're like holy shit this is the greatest thing I've ever seen, I enjoy watching these people swear now all the more for how badly I wanted them to say fuck earlier, and. Oh my god. How can I possibly recommend this show to anyone when I only think one season of it is Actually Good without caveats but like, my elevator pitch of “if you wish there women in early supernatural and also it was a western instead of a road trip” does stand.
